809  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: November 03, 2013, 08:07:15 AM
Alt-coins are the only way BTC avoids being an inefficient monopoly. Competition is almost always a good thing. Though maybe it would be good if there were only 3 or 4 alt-coins. I'm thinking maybe just LTC, FTC and Peercoin. More communities working on solving the challenges of cryptocurrency sounds like a good thing, though they are mushrooming too much.

BTC would never be what is now, without altcoins. You have to admint that

What do altcoins add that Bitcoin needs?

Alt-coins provide an easy store of value when speculating for example. Many exchanges allow BTC/LTC currency pairs and while BTC is volatile LTC and FTC seem to hold steady around 2.1 $ and 0.0004BTC respectively. So when BTC is low you buy BTCs in cash and then when it spikes you sell it for LTC. Then you remove the necessity of cash from the trade, which helps given the difficulty of getting fiat currency into the exchange quickly. So it's not BTC that needs alt-coins, it's just that alt-coins make it easier for BTC trading and eventually supply.

Thanks for sharing, thats what I have been trying to do but always went in too early...

to early or to late, me too

812  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is anyone actually going to buy the 600 GH/s BFL unit after their customer serv? on: November 03, 2013, 07:55:41 AM
BFL advertised "Tape out August 2013". Didn't happen in Aug. Didn't happen in Sep. Didn't happen in Oct. Now it's Nov. They're already several months late.

BFL Monarch: 600 GH/s for $4680 delievered long after Feb.
KnC Jupiter: 550 GH/s for $4995 delivered in Nov.

Why would anybody waste a single second considering a BFL product? It's a guaranteed loser, no matter how you pay for it.

And the shipment time is so crazy. I assume that miners are already working and when they worked for couple a months then they are shipped

Do you have any  problems with GPU mining, post it here. We will try to solve them.

I had this one

Gpu usage on 2 of my GPUS 7950 increasing and decreasing. Other 4 worked fine with continuos 100% usage. Same computer configuration on all cards.
I used same clock and tryed even to use stock clock but it didnt worked. I just started to use CG miner instead of GUIminer. I am not say tht GUI is not good but that solved my problems.

Smiley

Try increasing your power factor to 20%..

this screenshot is not exacly mine, i found it on internet. But mine gpu usage was like this.  I solved the problem

What was the problem then? I also have this when I setup my GPU for the first time, I tried increasing power factor and it work. Did it work for you too?

nope didnt woked for me, i tried everything, this can happen when temp is high but mine wasnt high. I just unistaled GUIminer and instaled a CG miner. And now it wokrs perfectly
