you have to have 3 defenders in the team, for formation to be possible, and below 3, you will just have zero points for defenders that are not playing their role
so, four injured defenders, you will have 5th playing, and 2 injured in the team, 2 benched, and formation will depend on 3rd player on the bench (MD or FW - 3/5/2, or 3/4/3)

if some player is in your team, and he is not playing, you team will see first player from your bench, with a notch that formation should be kept as possible (so no two defenders or something)
it is a better solution than when a player is on the bench, and enters last few minutes, as Gabriel from Arsenal in first two rounds, than you are screwed with 0/1 point for him, unless he does some miracles in few minutes on the pitch
