801  Local / India / Re: [August Update] Indian Board activity on Bitcointalk on: September 07, 2023, 07:34:34 PM

1. Number of posts: Increased from 163 to 177.

Is it number of posts just in the August month ?

Quote
2. Active users : Increased from 32 to 36.

I wonder who these 36 active users are. If they are really active then the Raffle would have been full within 24 hours of the post.

3. Merits shared : Decreased from 72 to 71

Compensated 1 merit for your post  Wink

Yes, totally 177 posts made in August alone, 163 in July.

21 Out of 36 members made only 1 post in the whole month, you may check out regional language and Altcoin India section to find them.  Wink

Thanks for the compensation. Cheesy

804  Local / India / Re: Indian Stock Markets VS Bitcoin on: September 07, 2023, 10:39:19 AM
Think again - which is better, Bitcoin or the Stock Market? If you are someone with diamond hands, then Bitcoin is the right investment. The potential for enormous growth and returns far exceeds traditional investments.
In my opinion bitcoin is way ahead of the stocks in terms of returns and the math you provided clearly explained the difference between stocks and bitcoin  but for some reason still there are economical experts believe that bitcoin is just a bubble, Ponzi, money created from nothing, etc, and I don't really know how long it will take for them to realize the bitcoin is real thing.

Younger generation may catch up with the trend so the potential to grow further is there so if anyone is ready to take the risk then now is the time cause better late than never.
805  Local / India / Re: UPI ATM! Another achivement in Fintech by India on: September 06, 2023, 06:28:30 PM
You all will agree that the quantum of new tech emerging in our country (especially in Fintech) in the last decade has been unimaginable. Recently a new fintech UPI ATM has been launched. You can use any UPI payment processor like Paytm, phonepe or gpay to withdraw cash from a UPI ATM by only scanning the bar code dispayed on the ATM machine.

Seems very good, and I think we may no longer debit cards either that is mostly used to withdraw cash from ATM not at any POS as far as I observed. Surely, India is taking the cashless economy to the next level.

I still remember vloggers from many countries stunned by UPI on every shop even at the road side vendors because they always thought India is nothing but slum, but they failed to realize India is growing rapidly in various sectors while the developed countries are struggling to maintain especially post COVID-19.

I just have one question, this feature will be implemented in all the existing ATMs or only ATMs called UPI ATM?
806  Local / India / Re: India or Bharat on: September 05, 2023, 08:05:29 PM
Current ruling party BJP is known for these kinds of things to divert people from something else and most likely no one in India is going to like their country to be renamed and the name India will remain same.

807  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Usb Encryption on: September 03, 2023, 05:54:56 PM
encrypt it so if anyone tries to access that usb, he can never open and read it contents.  How to do this ?
You can use Bitlocker for windows to encrypt your USB, which makes the USB completely encrypted and without the password it is impossible to open it no matter what.Make sure your system is not connected to internet while connecting your USB stick which eliminates the risk of getting exposed in case if there is any malware present in your system.

How to use BitLocker Drive Encryption

If you entered a password while creating wallet on electrum itself makes the wallet file encrypted, so you don't need to worry about that.
808  Local / India / Re: [July Update] Indian Board activity on Bitcointalk on: September 02, 2023, 03:54:31 PM

It would also be a lot easier to compare it with previous month's stats.
I would suggest to edit the main post every month and add it there and reserve the first 2 posts.
So that we don't have to dive in the comments for finding a particular month's stats.
Since this year is about to end we can continue in this thread and follow the new approach beginning next year. One thread for each year.

I actually thought about formatting the stats in table format but for now I tried to keep it simple and neat and in future we can make the things better.

Yes, sure having comparison in OP is best but considering the low activity on our board it won't be too hard to scroll down. Cheesy But yes, I am thinking about how can fit all together to get better comparison.

Next month we would be having Ganesh festival, if anyone here wants to suggest any activities before the festival starts then share it on this thread.

Of course any event is better to keep the community alive.

Ganesh Chaturthi is more related to the Idol, right? So what about sharing the pictures of the best idols you see or something like that.

I believe this is a good idea for everyone. I am not too smart to analyse those pictorial graphs and what they represent. If you are able to get a summary that would make my life simple. Another great initiative by Bitcoin Smith, expecting more creative and new things for the local board.

Thanks for the appreciation fella, I am trying to be a part of Indian crypto community in someway and who knows we may see ourselves in the history when people realize about the potential of crypto in India.

We can't really blame Heisenberg_Hunter @elevates. It's not his fault if the local board is not generating enough merit worthy posts.
We can't really expect every post to be merited. Besides that the raffle is not having enough participation because there aren't many active Indians in this board.

He is being on and off active in bitcointalk for the last few years and he only can tell the reasons, but we can't ask him more since being a merit source is nothing but a voluntary job.

809  Local / India / Re: Beware Some Indian Exchanges are facing INR withdrawal issues! on: September 02, 2023, 02:08:45 PM
I used Wazirx exchange last week to withdraw INR, and it went almost instant, so I am not sure which are the exchanges are facing the delay issues, but most likely exchanges will put the withdrawal options on disable if it's faced for all their withdrawals.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core 25.0 cannot backup wallet in Win11 on: September 02, 2023, 05:10:00 AM
Most probable reason is your wallet.dat file corrupted. Replace the corrupted wallet.dat file with your backup.

Even if it persists after replacing wallet.dat file then try this
Go to the Bitcoin Core datadir (same place where you find the debug.log file). Then either edit or create a bitcoin.conf file. Add to that file the following line:
Code:
usehd=0
Then start Bitcoin Core and it should work.
811  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who is account of transaction fees? on: September 01, 2023, 04:30:00 PM
The recepient of BTC transaction fees are miners but they also get block reward ( currently 6.25 BTC) along with fees of all the transactions in that block.

There is something called Bitcoin halving[1] which happens every 210,000 by that time the block reward reduces from it's current value to half, the next halving is expected to be Apr 26, 2024 at 05:52:04 AM UTC so the block reward will be 3.125 BTC.

The fees depends on the mempool status which is highly dynamic but you can choose the fee you want if you are sending Bitcoins from non custodial wallet such as Electrum or choose the fee depends on how long you can wait for the transaction to get confirmed.

To get the estimation of current fee use https://mempool.space/

The block reward and fees are to incentivize the contribution of miners which keeps the Bitcoin network decentralized.

813  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Taproot addresses less secure than native Segwit? on: August 29, 2023, 07:23:44 PM
Taproot addresses are not just the public key encoded in bech32m; they are a combination of the public key and the Taproot script. And Native Segregated Witness (SegWit) addresses are derived from the public key but are not a direct hash of the public key.

Anyway breaking in the elliptic curve would allow an attacker to get private keys either it's Taproot address or Segwit address but the possibility of happening is not feasible even with the existing most powerful computer of this world.

It has to be something related to the Indian crypto community.

My bad, I remember it's only to share the news related to Indian crypto, but I don't want to create another thread to bomb this to our community members if they missed watching, so I dropped it here.

Okay, no harm, won't happen again.
815  Local / India / Re: Indian PM Modi calls for global cryptocurrency framework at G20 Summit on: August 29, 2023, 03:38:00 PM
a few days back the US has send a proposal to make it mandatory KYC for DEX and those wallets that connect to these web3 platforms. By November this law will be up for approval and get passed by December of this year. A global regulation on crypto is in the making.

Is it really possible to enforce mandatory KYC on decentralized exchange?

Maybe technically yes, but it is not really feasible to keep track of every wallet of a user with their identification.

But it is really going in the wrong way than I thought, more censorship is on the way for crypto market I guess.
816  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How To Check How Much BTC in each BTC Address in Nano Ledger S Plus? on: August 29, 2023, 08:27:22 AM

Do you know that website that I am talking about?  Is it blockchair or something similar?  I recall it wasn't blockchain but a very similar site.  But when I check blockchair now, it doesn't seem to look the same?

You can try the explorers from the list[1] to find if that website that you are looking for.

1.List of useful Bitcoin block explorers

As far as I recall, every explorer's will says the search as invalid if I enter more than one address.
817  Local / India / Indian PM Modi calls for global cryptocurrency framework at G20 Summit on: August 28, 2023, 03:08:49 PM
https://twitter.com/CryptooIndia/status/1695829656338075723?s=20

Did you watch this speech of Modi?

Finally, he is talking about cryptocurrency but pardon me since I don't understand Hindi that much but as per my understanding he is insisting creating global framework for regulating cryptocurrencies which means there will be something at G20 summit  which is supposed to be good news for crypto investors in India?

Do you see any hope for that 30% tax rate to come down?

820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about CPFP / RBF on: August 27, 2023, 01:51:57 PM
Assume if the wallet is Electrum you can actually use CPFP to bump the fee even if the transaction in A to B is low if you enabled  spend unconfirmed transaction in the address B at the time of broadcasting the transaction from B to C.
