801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Opportunities as a gateway to Community service on: May 03, 2023, 07:09:14 PM
Good job, it’s always a good thing to be generous and I always appreciate such act when I see such but I think we should try to protect the privacy of people, I know you doing a good thing for them but it’s proper to protect their image and maybe blur there faces out of the picture.

Personally I am the type of person that like to give out in silent because that’s the best way to give to those in need without making them feel less of a human and to actually give without the intentions of popularity or any other thing, but since the forum is an anonymous one I would say kudos OP.
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Embrace yourselves for what's coming on: May 03, 2023, 04:55:08 PM
Regardless of the market state (bull run or bear market) Ethereum network always has a notorious high fee, this should be something you are aware of.

I had stop using the the Ethereum network to perform transactions and not just me many other has actually done so too to avoid there unnecessarily high transactions.

Rather than using Ethereum to perform transactions it’s best to convert to stablecoin and then make your transactions it saves you a good bit of amount on transactions.
803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop comparing BTC to FIAT. FIAT is dying every single day. on: May 03, 2023, 01:00:33 PM
The concept of fiat currencies will never die. It is too advantageous to the banks, the elite, and the government. Specific fiat currencies will be repriced, and issued as a new variant of the same old concept. 1 Bitcoin=1 Bitcoin, but equally 1 pound Sterling= 1 pound Sterling. What a Sterling pound doesn't equal is one pound of silver, and this was its oriuginal value.
I also think this is very correct. The fiat currency has helped the government stay in control. When you are in control of someone Finances (where you can freeze it at any time especially when the person is a suspect) you have a good control of an important part of that person.

I don’t think the government would be ready to give up that control, Crypto-currency is system that keeps them away of such control, and monitoring.

Let’s take for instance all of crypto-currency becomes centralized today and the government has good grip of a control on the users and crypto still has all of its advantages over traditional means of finances, I bet the government would have giving full nod to it. The issue is that they can’t control or manipulate crypto-currency the way they want to.
804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robbing bitcoins from a bitcoiner on: May 02, 2023, 08:34:54 PM
It’s hard to imagine physical bitcoin, Fiat is physical that’s understandable. it is centralized an under the control of the government of the country that owns it.

Bitcoin on the other hand is decentralized not owned by anyone, the supply is limited to 21 million bitcoins, there can never be more production of bitcoin to the 21million.

So Fiat is giving out my banks, if Bitcoin becomes physical who would be in charge of disbursing it out to the public? It just doesn’t add up.

So in addition to the normal way of protecting your bitcoin wallet or portfolio. I would add that another great way is remaining anonymous, you don’t necessarily need to announce yourself(real identity) as a bitcoin holder.
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The major role of cryptocurrency in promoting financial inclusion. on: May 02, 2023, 08:15:56 PM
Another benefit is cryptocurrencies can be use to reduce payment sorting costs, giving room for small businesses to retain in their possession more of what they get and significantly increase in the rate how fast they get paid.
I don’t think I understood you here how does crypto-currency reduce payment cost for small business, let’s say I am a small scale business owner and I have a good going for $1 it would always remain $1 regardless of it you are making payments in Crypto-currency or in Fiat.

Yes I agree with you that bitcoin transactions can be fast, but small scale business mostly get paid in cash, so I believe that’s faster.

We need to understand this bitcoin is not the solution for all our problems, it give us freedom, right to privacy and anonymity but it won’t make a small scale business man start earning more from his Business only a good business plan can do that.
806  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I asked Chat GPT what topics can help me earn merits on: May 02, 2023, 01:57:00 PM
Maybe you should also ask ChatGPT to give you a merit on this post too, yes I am not against the development of technology and I always welcome technology.

But technology should not over come common reasoning. In the foundation of the forum and with my knowledge and experience so far there is no place it’s stated that merit are earned higher here.

Merit and growth on the forum is hundred percent what you are able to give out, nothing more nothing less, regardless of the board.
807  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can a beginner fast learn and contribute to bitcoin forum on: May 02, 2023, 10:50:25 AM
Hello everyone I'm new here.
Please what are  the fastest ways to learn about bitcoin? and how can a software development student meaningfully contribute to the forum?
There is no fast way to learn about bitcoin, firstly don’t be in a rush you would have to go through the process, learning bitcoin isn’t only tired down to this forum you just also have to do your own research outside this forum, follow crypto-currency related news and with time you should have understanding about it.

If you want to have a broad knowledge about what Bitcoin wallet is all about you can check through here.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0

Personally I take further interest in cold storage wallet because your funds are safer there than using an online wallet to stack your Bitcoin. There are many options on cold storage but I pick more interest on electrum.

Anyone can contribute to the forum regardless of what your profession is outside the forum, so just follow the rules And do some reading.
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you remember this episode of Simpsons? on: May 01, 2023, 08:30:35 PM
That is why I would like to ask everyone here, which year do you expect the Bitcoin price to go beyond a USD value and achieve an infinite value?
Bitcoin already has its own value already it’s you that choose to see it in the value of The USD and not just you, Bitcoin is valued in USD to easy the process of explaining its monetary value.

Bitcoin unlike stablecoin isn’t pegged to the USD.

But what we can expect in the near future is probably when large adoption of bitcoin has been reached there won’t be a need to be valuing the worth of bitcoin into the USD, this future is very possible.

Can you mine a Bitcoin for free?

Technically, mining the Bitcoin can be done for free, as the software has no cost associated with it. However, there are huge costs involved with the hardware and electricity expenses.

Mining equipment requires a lot of power, and it could cost as much as 73,000 dollars to process a Bitcoin, depending on the electricity costs in one's area.

It is possible to join a mining pool to harness to computational power of hardware owned by several miners, but then each miner only receives a portion of the mined Bitcoin.
https://amp.marca.com/en/lifestyle/2022/01/09/61dae6bce2704e17408b45db.html

This is just an average estimate it could really be higher, the expenses that miners has to meet up with so that they can remain in the competition is high.

Dreams and reality are two separate things, as a human you have to work for what you earn, the mining industry is not a bed of roses, you actually have to have good capital before you can survive.

Those who earn/make money now with minimum effort has putting in the work sometime in their existence, you can’t skip that WORK process.
810  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Popular scams in crypto that investors should avoid on: May 01, 2023, 10:27:31 AM

One of the most common scam is the Ponzi Scheme. I'm pretty sure most, if not all of us are very familiar with this scam. In a Ponzi Scheme, the scammer promises high returns on investment without doing any actual trading. Instead, the scammer gains new participants mostly true referrals and uses their funds to pay the earlier investors' promised profits. The Ponzi Scheme collapses when new participants dwindle or demand a payout, and the scammer disappears with the remaining funds. There's something my dad always tells me, " there is no such thing as something from nothing". Anyone that promises you a particular amount of BTC, and all you have to do is invest a  particular amount or share their link to invite a given amount of people, that person is a scammer, and potential investors should avoid them at all cost.
The Ponzi scheme has been the type of scam that newbies and inexperienced people usually fall for the promises those Ponzi organizers offers are mouth watering and made up. I have some topics on some of the various Ponzi schemes.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5245895.msg54363375#msg54363375
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5257989.msg54680733#msg54680733
The biggest turn off I have is that there are newbies that had fallen victim on previous Ponzi schemes but still persist and joins more Ponzi schemes in the hopes of having a payday someday. Always learn to accept your loss and make your corrections.

Quote
Another fraud is the Phishing scam, where a scammer creates a fake website that pretends to be a popular cryptocurrency exchange or wallet. They ask for login credentials, private keys, and then proceeds to access the victim's cryptocurrency wallet and steal their funds.
Falling for this sort of scam goes beyond your actual knowledge of Crypto-currency it can also be prevented by reducing your risk which is becoming hard, you can also be a victim for such scams through ads, malware and generally having the device of your wallet online keeps you prone to such scams, you can use cold storage to protect yourself.
Read more about cold storage here.

811  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Your thoughts on crypto exhcnages. on: May 01, 2023, 08:25:52 AM
To better understand more about Exchanges you have to consider breaking it down and we have two divisions to that.
# Centralized exchanges
# decentralized Exchanges

Centralized exchanges: in a more shorter details centralized exchange are those exchanges that takes the freedom away from their users, they have more control than the users, they require KYC details

Decentralized exchange : this are the opposite of centralized exchanges, here the users get more freedom, more privacy protection and they can be anonymous. Here no third party exist and it’s mostly preferred by crypto-currency enthusiast.

To have a broader picture of what exchanges are about decentralized and centralized read through this post.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2906237.msg29885570#msg29885570

In addition there are dangers to exchanges that’s why it’s well recommended to never leave your funds on any exchange at all, some exchange bosses gambles with the funds of users as it was in the FTX case, also  Exchanges has been under continuous attacks by hackers and scammers.

812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we help to Bitcoin education? on: April 30, 2023, 07:29:16 PM
Went through  the thread and I can say that OP you tried I must give you that and i believe that the newbies would have a starting knowledge about what Bitcoin is all about.

But I noticed something rather than teaching bitcoin you were selling the idea BITCOIN to new people, I understand that you stand as a bitcoin enthusiast, but their are dangers teaching newbies about bitcoin without drawing their attention to the dangers.

The dangers this can lead to is newbies aren’t aware of the dangers and the get euphoric about any bitcoin and can lead to them.
# Joining scam social media account (Facebook, twitter, YouTube)
# Ponzi schemes
# can get trapped with scammers and many more

Telling newbies about the dangers of Bitcoin should not be secondary it should be amongst the primary things you tell them about.
813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vigilante hacker burns about $300k worth of BTC linked to Russian intelligence on: April 30, 2023, 03:30:11 PM
It was probably on an exchange. It sounds like another bit of FUD to discredit Bitcoin. The clues are that it was a Russian wallet ( the bad guys), and a partial payment sent to Ukraine ( tghe good guys), why wasn't all of the coins sent to Ukraine?
If this information is true my honest opinion is Hacking is a terrible thing that should be frowned at no matter what the intentions of then hackers is.

It’s unbelievable firstly that the addresses was founds and what is even more unbelievable is that the addresses was linked to Russian intelligence, this sounds like a typical CIA/secret agent type of box office movie.

And if this information stands and recognize as true, then after all os said and done and probably the war becomes a thing of the past this would be use against bitcoin that it can be used as a tool of warfare attacks. That’s totally not something I would be euphoric about.

815  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On location with broken phone; How to pay? (Bitcoin, Monero, or ectc.) on: April 29, 2023, 01:24:56 PM
It’s a question that answers itself, okay let me put it to you like this if you weren’t a crypto-currency enthusiast and you have such encounter where you have no cash and no cards to pay for what you purchase what would you do?

It’s obvious you tell them to either put it on their credit note or they can trust you to follow you, so is it in this very situation, you are outside and the device you have for crypto-currency transactions is gone/broken there is no hope for you in such situations except there is a bitcoin ATM in proximity.

You can learn more about bitcoin ATM here.

816  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would the Bitcointalk Forum be like without Signature Campaigns? on: April 29, 2023, 11:50:31 AM
Well we have to look at this situation critically, and not just from a single aspect we have to be open in our perspective before we decide.

First let’s start with those that are allowed to wear a signature in the first place.

Quote
Perhaps the allowed signature styling should change with activity score / membergroup. Like:
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Then newbies will be less effective advertisers, which would hopefully significantly reduce the incentive for low-content posts. And when people become capable of effectively advertising through their signatures, they'll have invested a lot of time into their accounts, and they won't risk being banned by spamming.

From the above post you would see according to rules made by theymos the only people allowed to wear a signature are those ranks above Newbie and to get that you have to have more than one merit and 30 activities.

But in reality and from the many campaigns available now the least rank membership is the Full member, and some are even cutting the full members off that’s how competitive it has been.

So to be eligible for a campaign you have to have reached full member with is 100 and over merit with 120 activities this is not an easy fit to achieve legally excluding bought account and other illegal means.

I would say the availability of signature campaign can be a motivation to ready to many who are learn and improve to even work harder to be eligible for a signature campaign.

But the down side is relaxing after getting a signature I would be very honest I was guilty of that before I now rediscovered myself, and with the high competition now the downside of relaxing is fast being eliminated because If you relax you get kicked out.

In a broader picture signature campaign has lots of positive sides.

One of the things I believe would help the forum is when the option of buying an account is removed this would encourage hard work.
817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to start referring domain name buyers to Bitcoin Talk on: April 29, 2023, 07:53:33 AM
Since you said potential buyers of the domain name that means you are the seller, I don’t think it’s a bad idea or off topic from the forum since it involves bitcoin domain buying.

But what i think is that the beginners and help board is to help out newbies and less experienced members out on issues they can handle or try to solve their problems, so it may not be the appropriate place.

On the other hand since it involves buying and selling then the market place board, and it’s child boards like services is an appropriate place for this.

For the purpose of the potential buyers to learn about it and get information you can direct them to the service discussion in particular.

818  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i reverse a Bitcoin transaction? on: April 28, 2023, 08:19:09 PM
If the required confirmation has been reached I am sorry to say that the transactions has been completed and there is no calling back.
Crypto-currency isn’t like the banking system that you can call back after transactions has been sent.

Is there no way or platform to reverse erroneous transactions, especially when the reasons are genuine?
Now what platform did you use to perform the transactions if it’s from your private wallet like Ethereum which is decentralized and the required confirmations has been reached then there is nothing you can do, but if it’s on a centralized exchange that requires KYC then depending on the efforts of the exchange or government involvement the receiver who has giving out their information can be reached but all this is another tedious process that may not still yield any results.
819  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I don't know if am right or wrong about this. on: April 28, 2023, 04:37:54 PM

He is talking about trading, he can only use those exchanges for spot and future trading, especially if it is scalping or day trading which are the riskiest. He can use smart contract decentralized exchanges too, but I will advice him to use centralized exchanges for convenience and more pairs, but he should not leave his coins on the exchanges, I mean the coins that are not used for trading. If he does not want to trade for some days, he should send his coins back to a noncustodial wallet.
Yes that’s true and since no trader has privacy (but for the exception of no kyc required exchanges)then there won’t be any privacy issue. But one thing I can also point out is his friend is a newbie and many newbies aren’t versatile in their research if he starts him with a centralized exchange like binance in trading he may see binance as his go to place even for buying and selling of his Crypto,

but like you said it’s simpler for traders using centralized exchanges also using decentralized exchange has its down side too and one of them is that the conversation fees are very high especially on instant exchanges.

820  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I don't know if am right or wrong about this. on: April 28, 2023, 04:06:57 PM
Binance is a centralized exchange that’s my first red flag, decentralized exchange takes away the control from you even in your own funds and also many of them requires Kyc verification which is also an issue on your privacy protection.
Try out so decentralized exchange for trading like Bisq

Truth be told trading isn’t easy it requires critical thinking and if you jump into it hastily you may just be blowing your funds away. The best thing you can do for your friend if he keeps insisting first put a disclaimer let him know that there are possibilities for him to win and also for him to loose and you can help him with some educational instructions.

Here is a good educational instruction on trading.
