Holy smokes! Some crazy news on Christmas.

https://www.cricket.com/news/afghanistan-ban-mujeeb-naveen-and-farooqi-from-playing-franchise-cricket-12252023-1703523941113

Afghanistan cricket board are crazy and they are clearly doing whatever it takes to destroy the careers of these extremely talented cricketers. I wonder when either of these 3 will ever play again in big tournaments.

Now what will happen if these three players retire from international cricket and concentrate solely on franchise cricket? Afghan cricket board has gone crazy. In tier-2 test nations, it is not that rate to have players skip a handfull of international matches to focus on T20 matches. The board has over-reacted this time, and this is going to be mutually detrimental for both the sides. Are they going to do the same against Rashid Khan as well? They don't have the courage to do something like this to him, so picked up the weak players.

That was an Excellent series Between Indonesia and Philippines. I am saying it interesting because they played two two matches in a day. And both were playing good. After all you have mentioned that Indonesia have won 2 matches and Philippines won 3 matches and this is six matches series. So there is only one match is left. Both teams will try to their best to win this match because if Indonesia will win so the series will be tied. And if Philippines will win, so they will also win the series. By the way 5th match was interesting in which match tied with equal score and there were a super over and in that over Philippines won the match .

I am not much interested in the outcome of this match. The point is that Indonesia has a side that is close to 100% native, while Philippines went with a squad that had hardly any citizens. For now, Philippines might have won most of the matches. But in the long run, Indonesia's future looks brighter for me. They already have a well established domestic setup, which involves a majority of the provinces. And they are quite strong in women's cricket as well. On the other hand in Philippines cricket remains as a sport that is largely played by expat men.

The first test between India and South Africa will start by tomorrow. And the good news for India is that Temba Bavuma has been included in the squad (and that too as the skipper) yet again. So effectively they are playing with 10 players against India. The match will take place at the SuperSport Park in Centurion and the pitch is likely to offer equal amount of support for both the seamers as well as spinners. India is likely to go with 3 pacers (Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur) and one spinner (Ravichandran Ashwin).

One off test Australia women om 41/0 in 10 overs Aus-W are trail by 146 runs and 1st session going on of day 3 indian women playing excellent in 1st inning made 406 runs and lead by 187 runs to Australia women. india women most chances to win this match because they are playing on their home and lead many runs in 1st innings Aus-W need to play fasy on day 3 and save his wickets and gave target 340 plus runs to indian women to won this match the way they are playing match should have been drawn

Australia are at 63/2 and they still need another 124 runs to avoid an innings defeat. They just lost two quick wickets - that of Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield. As of now, Ellyse Perry and Tahlia McGrath are at the crease against the Indian spinners. And for India, it is spin from both the ends. Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana are up against Perry and McGrath. Outcome of the match is pretty clear as of now. Only question is whether Australian women will be able to avoid an innings defeat or not. And IMO, they will not be able to do that.

LOL.. what happened to Bangladesh all of a sudden. Last time, Soumya Sarkar scored 169 and they lost the match. This time he picked up three crucial wickets and then they managed to win. All credit to their pacers (including Soumya). New Zealand prepared a green-top and it horribly backfired on them. Apart from Soumya Sarkar, other pacers were impressive as well (Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman). Anyway, this is the end of ODI series. Now the action shifts to McLean Park in Napier, where the first T20I match will be played.

Ancelotti joining Brazil is something we saw this news during the summer when the Real Madrid fans were wired when they were about to lose their coach but Ancelotti is not going to leave Real Madrid and now since Real Madrid is near to winning more achievements in La Liga and the Champions League with Ancelotti, I don't think if he will leave the team.
When they asked Ancelotti during the summer if he wanted to leave Real Madrid for Brazil he said he was interested in staying in Real Madrid for a longer time.

As of now, there is no hint from his side that Ancelotti will be moving to Brazil. Just yesterday he was commenting about the role of Aurelien Tchouameni as centre-back. Ancelotti wants to use Tchouameni in a defensive position until Nacho Fernandez is available again. Nacho got a red card during the match against Alaves and this forced Ancelotti to use Tchouameni as the centre-back. Also he is making his plans on how to enter the January transfer market for Real Madrid. Given this, I believe there is not much chance of him accepting the offer from Brazil.

Mind you, he belongs to a batch of the 2018 WC much celebrated trio of Shivam Mavi-Nagarkoti-Ishan Porel and he wasn't picked in the under-19 WC team but look at all of em now. Nagarkoti is nowhere to be seen because of his injuries. Mavi is doing alright but still can't make it to the national level. Porel is just struggling. It tells you more about the character of Arshdeep and surprisingly he's also working on his batting as a tailender.

The case with Kamlesh Nagarkoti is just tragic. I saw some of the India U-19 matches live, and this guy was extremely impressive. He had raw pace and terrified the batsmen, while Shivam Mavi kept things tight from the other end. He never got a chance to represent Indian senior team, and I really doubt whether he will evet get that opportunity. Last time I saw him in action was in 2022, when he participated in the Ranji Trophy for Rajasthan. From what I heard, he has taken a break from active cricket and is concentrating on his studies at this point.

An innings defeat seems to be in the cards for Australia. India are 300/7 and leads by 81 runs. If they can add another 60-70 runs, then that should be enough to guarantee that India doesn't bat again. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar have added 26 runs in 13 overs, at a rate of 2 runs per over. Australian bowlers are being economical, but they are not very successful in taking wickets. Ashleigh Gardner has picked up 4 wickets, but none of the other Australian bowlers seems to be capable of troubling the Indian women.

West Indies hadn't qualified for the last T20 and ODI world cup. Where England was the champion of the last T20 world cup, but their performance was pathetic in the ODI world cup. Anyway, I wasn't expecting England to lose both series against West Indies. England has lost the both ODI and T20 series in this West Indies tour. Yesterday, England had lost 6 wickets and scored 23 runs only in the last 6 overs. Which is the main reason for their defeat.

Yes... they were 110/4 and then ended up at 132 all out. This is when Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein picked up crucial wickets to put them on the backfoot. England middle order is relatively more experienced, but they collapsed against the West Indian bowlers. Liam Livingstone made 28 from 29, and that was the highest score among the middle order batsmen. Harry Brook, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran couldn't make significant contributions. And then Andre Russell came back towards the end, to clean up England innings.

IMO you didn't get Akash's pov.

Indian players can't pull out from the IPL at their will because it'd have some sort of repercussions for players. After all, competition is tough for domestic players. That's not the case for foreign players, big players from other countries mainly Australia, NZ and England have a habit of pulling out their name from the IPL (personal leave, national duties etc) after one season or even just after auction if their salary is low (Ben strokes, Jason Roy, Jaminson and Strac names come to my mind) and they apply in a mini auction where big pay is almost a done deal. That's how likes of Jamison, Green, Ben Stokes and in a recent auction Starc and Cummins got big bucks.

With this tactic, they are using a loophole and mini auction increasingly incentivizes this behavior. The difference is many Indian commentators are openly saying it now, even Ashwin talked about this on his YouTube channel and he doesn't need clickbait views.

In that case, they should ask the BCCI to treat overseas players and Indian players at the same level. In the social media, I saw several posts attacking players such as Starc and Cummins. This sort of behavior can't be encouraged. I admit that they are using the loophole, but in the end who created this loophole? First of all the BCCI should be thankful to them because foreign boards are still participating in the IPL despite the fact that Indian players are not allowed to participate in the leagues organized by other boards.

BTW congrats to you and @Haunebu, Your favorite boys Sanju and Arsedeep got the Man of the Match and Man of the Series respectively.  Grin Tongue
Lol! I still don't like Arshdeep as a bowler and probably never will, but I admit that he was crucial to India's success in this particular campaign. His bowling coaches should be appreciated too probably for his reversal in form.

On the other hand, Samson is a weird case. The man is phenomenal sometimes and horrendous some other times. Extremely inconsistent player!

Both Samson and Arshdeep have got numerous opportunities to prove their worth. Among the pace bowlers, Arshdeep seems to be a favorite of the selectors. Look at others such as Natarajan and Deepak Chahar. They haven't got the same number of chances. And now coming to Samson, once again he is the favorite as far as the wicket keeper position is considered. Others such as Jitesh Sharma and Anuj Rawat hasn't got the same number of opportunities. And Samson was an abject failure as the Royals captain.
812  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: December 22, 2023, 06:34:19 AM
Exactly they are the hero of this match. Even the Arshdeep Singh was the player of the match in the first match too. He is trying well. Not know how much he will succeed or even continue his career. He just pressurized the South African team.  He got the first wicket of Hendricks that made some pressure on South African team. By the way overall India team performance was really good. Now they have won the series with 2-1. Now they have two test matches. I hope India will win again.

There is too much competition at the Indian pace bowling department and I am not sure how Arshdeep can pull ahead of others in the race, such as Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna and Umran Malik. Once again, a lot will depend on how he will perform in the upcoming IPL season. And obviously a number of new faces are going to emerge during the IPL. From what I have seen so far, Arshdeep has got more chances compared to any other emerging pacer. And for me his performance has been disappointing. He has been inconsistent.
813  Economy / Economics / Re: India is the new economic leader of global south. And replacement for China?... on: December 22, 2023, 06:24:39 AM
Being an Indian, I would say that it will be almost impossible for India to overtake China. The success of China can be attributed to the fact that there is minimal government intervention and almost zero regulations. But in India, hardly any importance is given to merit and with each passing year the government intervention is increasing. In the state of Bihar recently the quota in education and jobs for "backward classes" were increased to 75%. That means that 75% of the employees will be selected based on their caste and just 25% will be selected on the basis of their merit. Given this, how can India overtake China?
814  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 22, 2023, 06:12:52 AM
OK... India has recovered well after losing two quick wickets. The partnership between Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues is now worth 46 runs, and India is very close to gaining first innings lead. Jess Jonassen is causing some issues for the Indian batters, but apart from that other bowlers are being handled with ease by the Indians. The track at Wankhede is batter-friendly as usual and the Indians need to make sure that they get to a total of 400+. This will enable them to target an innings victory against Australia in this match.
815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 22, 2023, 06:00:53 AM
Rinku Singh is a great player and he is not a seasonal player but a consistent performer. If his batting average strike rate had been worse and he had not been a consistent performer then his price this season would have been fine but even with his batting average strike rate consistent performance he is priced at just 55  Lakhs of Rs. IPL teams are more interested in spending money on foreign players, which is why various franchises have bought foreign players who performed much worse than Rinku Singh at much higher prices. Rinku Singh has shown great performance in T20 which is why Rinku Singh has been replaced by SKY in the squad for the ODI series.

This is how the system in IPL works. Rinku's contract is just ₹55 lakhs, because it was signed before last year's IPL. Once the contract expires, he will be able to attract a much higher price. It is the same for all the players and many others have found themselves in the same situation before. Idiots such as Akash Chopra have been raising their voice only to make their social media channels more popular. He knows how the auction works in IPL. And honestly, the targeting of Australian players is shameful and should be avoided at all costs.
816  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: December 22, 2023, 05:43:48 AM
Colorado is not even a state Trump was counting on to win the presidential election next year, by the way, as far as I have investigated, Colorado is a blue state which college votes will likely go to Biden. The importance of this lawsue against the existence of Donald Trump in the ballot is more about the precedent which is being established for Trump to be excluded in other states which are more important for him to defeat Biden.
This is a very bizarre situation, to be honest, if things continue to go this direction the Supreme court of the USA are who are going to have to power to either downplay the exclusion or not. Just think about it for a moment, a handful of people in the USA could easily completely remove Trump off the ballot nationaly, paving the road for Nikki Haley or De Santis to absorb all his support for themselves.
If I had to bet, I am very sure the SCOTUS won't dare to exclude Trump of the ballot because if the dangerous implications of doing so. On the other hand, Trump had already capitalized the support of moderate Republicans who will side with him because they may view this as a blatant violation of the people to choose their rulers... Each step which is taken against Trump, only increases his chances of getting away with the presidency, it seems democrats do not acknowledge it yet.

SCOTUS has a solid conservative majority of 6-3, and out of the six conservative judges three were appointed by Trump himself. Given this, I am not sure whether SCOTUS will uphold the decision to remove him from ballot. In the end, Democrats will fail in their aim and it will only provide more ammunition to Trump to carry on with his campaign. And this is not the right time for all this legal drama. Biden is well behind Trump in nation-wide opinion polls, and people will interpret all this as a last ditch effort from Biden to avoid a defeat to Trump.

India Women team came out to bat 1st Innings today. Scored 141 runs in 35.5 overs. India Women team lost 2 wickets so far. Shafali Verma got out for 40 runs in 59 balls. Sneh Rana got out for 9 runs in 57 balls. Today India Women  The team has started to perform well. India Women team is still behind Australia Women team by 78 runs.

Indian women were cruising nicely, before they lost two quick wickets. The run out from Smriti Mandhana was quite unnecessary. It was Richa Ghosh who initiated the run, but then she stopped mid-way. Mandhana sacrificed her wicket for Ghosh's mistake. Now Jemimah Rodrigues is batting along with Ghosh and India are still behind by 57 runs. These two need to stay there and build a good partnership for the 4th wicket. Australia has spin from both the ends - off spin from Ashleigh Gardner, and leg-break from Alana King.

Quite true but I feel he will make permanent place eventually. Right now, he bats at 6th position, in wc Surya was tried at this position, he failed, he'll likely stick to t20s from now on and in t20 Surya bats up in order so 6th position stays safe.

When there is Hardik Pandya available, I don't have much to argue about, he wins here.

Hardik is essentially a T20 guy. So once he is available, then it will be an automatic choice. For ODI format, I am not sure whom the selectors would prefer. But then, Rinku and Hardik are not the only guys who are competing for the no.6 spot. In the past, selectors have tried their luck with players such as Venkatesh Iyer and Wriddhiman Shaha. And there are a number of guys who are performing well at the domestic level. And for Rinku, the upcoming IPL season is very important (even for the ODI team selection).
819  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: December 22, 2023, 04:45:03 AM
India played really well in the last match. Especially I appreciate the batting of Sanju Samson who made 108 runs on 114 balls after him the Tilak Varma is the one who made 52 runs otherwise no one went above 50 runs. In bowling line we can see Arshdeep Singh again on top in collecting wickets. In total India set a target of 297 runs for South Africa.
South Africa tried well to chase the target but unfortunately there were Arshdeep Singh who out four players of South African team. South Africa made 218 runs with all team out. India won by 78 runs and won the series too.

South African bowling attack is really inexperienced. Look at their pacers. Nandre Burger was playing his third ODI match, while for Beuran Hendricks and Lizaad Williams it was the 10th and 4th ODI match respectively. Among the bowlers, only the spinner Keshav Maharaj was experienced and he returned exceptional bowling figures of 10-2-37-1. Samson and Tilak were able to frustrate the South African pacers and score runs at ease. If Tabraiz Shamsi was included in the squad, then I believe that things would have been different.

The latest news regarding FIFA World Cup 2026 is that the schedule will be out in a few weeks form now. The schedule release was supposed to happen several months ago, but it was delayed. Releasing the schedule will obviously help the host cities in their planning, and also it will be beneficial for the global audience to plan their travel (final plans can be done only after the qualifiers are complete). The tournament is being hosted by a total of 16 cities, spread across Canada, United States and Mexico.
