801  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: What to do when you dey depressed on: January 17, 2024, 01:13:32 PM
E get one of my brother wey just start to dey drink recently so I ask am say why all of a sudden he won turn himself to a drunkard, he say na because say him dey depressed.
The truth that many people do not know is that alcohol does not cure depression but only postpone it. To cure depression through alcohol, you need to be constantly drunk else anytime your eyes clear, the pains and everything that got you depress will return with full force.

In our world today and especially our country where a lot of people are becoming depressed due to present economic realities, it is very important one take care of his mental health above anything else. To achieve this, planning is very important because through proper planning, the limited funds can be allocated to important things first and not frivolities.

What to do when you are depressed or worried about something
1: seek Help: There is a popular saying that goes like this"a closed mouth is a closed destiny" Talk to someone you trust, it could be a family member, friend or even a therapist to help guide you. Talking to someone go help relieve some worries you were having and solution can come from there .
This aspect is being neglected by many people as people are so conservative these days under the inglorious saying "minding their business". I called it inglorious because nothing decides the society than lack of socialisation,  communication and synergy.  A lot of people will never talk to anyone about their ordeals, they prefer dying in silence.

802  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 17, 2024, 11:35:39 AM
That is why investors who already believe in Bitcoin will still hold their Bitcoin even though the price is still low. In fact, they will continue to buy Bitcoin as long as the price is still low because they know it is their chance to get it at that low price. They will not want to lose the opportunity to buy and keep Bitcoin because they believe that it will return to its highest price in the future. And this has been applied again by investors still confident in Bitcoin. They don't panic when there is a correction but will look for the right time to buy more Bitcoin. We must be able to buy Bitcoin, too, and we already know the DCA method, which will be a way for us to buy Bitcoin regularly.
Seeing the DIP actually becomes favorable, always a good entry point to all investors. I consider full joy when the market DIPs rather than having the bull run, another chance of maximizing once profit by simply accumulating Bitcoin. When many cry for the DIP it's always one good opportunity to investors who understand the Bitcoin cycle  and there you see them take advantage of it.
As funny as it may sound, I began appreciating the dip when I started using the DCA method.  Before then, I was buying at the dips but there is this fear and anxiety that grips me whenever price dips lower than my entry point. That time, I actually do not like seeing my entire portfolio in negative; it was a big psychological pain for me. But when I learnt about the DCA method, everything changed and the pain disappeared just like magic.

Through the DCA method, I now see dips as opportunity for getting more BTC for the same dollar amount I budgeted. No more anxiety and bearish market is now treasured.

803  Economy / Reputation / Re: Farewell on: January 17, 2024, 11:08:33 AM
Without giving away too much personal info, I have a chronic disease. I've had this disease for a decade and have had a lot of treatment for it, but it is winning. I likely only have a few months left. And so, I bid you all farewell. I'll be spending as much of my remaining time as possible with my family. In a week or two, once this thread has run its course, I'll ask theymos to lock this account.

I have learnt a lot from many of you, and I hope many of you have learnt something from me. Although we will never meet, I would have loved to share a beer with many of you, and I hope you'll remember me fondly.

Leo
Such a sad news! How I wish I have all it takes to take it all away, because you are a great contributor to this forum. It is really hard to say farewell because we are like a family here. Well, we can have faith even when it look impossible.... that is the least we can do.

Whatever be the case, you made your impact here and will be fondly remembered for your input in the Bitcoin community. You are loved and cherished and will always be.
804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Draw betting strategy on: January 17, 2024, 09:43:56 AM
1.analyze team statistics: This is something we all know but shouldn't be overlooked,..ensure you check the teams recent
Performance, and their defensive records. When two defensive teams play against each other the probability of a draw is always 85 percent
This is seems right because defensive teams have the tendency of playing draw. I hardly play draw though but I used this to analyse matches I will play 3Ways.

2.play it safe:. Betting on a draw can be a bit riskier, so it's best to stake a small amount or pick the draw no bet option which gives you a refund.
Seems you are mistaken the DNB option of sports betting. It actually requires that the team you played DNB have to win but if they lose, that particular selection should be voided and your money returned to you. You will lose your money if the team loses the match.

4.weather conditions : I need your opinions on this point cause I'm not 100 percent sure of it but this is from some of my observation
Do you think weather conditions affect gameplay and increase the likelihood of a draw?

This is one thing I'm interested in learning about because I feel that weather conditions affect the performance of the player to a large extent. The challenge here is knowing what the weather condition will be per match venue and how to integrate this into the decision making of match selection outcome prediction. Maybe others will make input that will help.

805  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Turkish Cup 2024 on: January 16, 2024, 07:56:05 PM
There are Turkish Cup 5th round matches at tonight. Beşiktaş will face Eyüpspor a few later.

Beşiktaş's starting XI against Eyüpspor: Mert, Onur, Necip, Zaynutdinov, Umut, Demir Ege, Salih, Gedson, Ghezzal, Rebic, Cenk.

Eyüpspor's starting XI against Beşiktaş: Berke, Metehan, Uğur, Clairo, Ömer, Bekir, Seslar, Melih, Mete Kaan, Ahmed, Mustafa.
Basiktas is delivering as expected with 4:0 defeat, but it is actually disappointing to see that Eyupspor could not even score a single goal. I never expected that the team that is at the top of the second division could not score against inconsistent Basiktas, who are 18 points behind Fenerbahce the leading team in Turkish Super League.

Fenerbahce will face Adanaspor tomorrow in their round 5 encounter,  a match I will give to the home side who are my favourite to lift the trophy.

806  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Social aspects of online gambling on: January 16, 2024, 07:44:58 PM
To the people that have maybe tried both online and physical gambling, how do you perceive the socialization aspects of online gambling?
There is no real socialisation in online gambling. The fun and real bonding happens in physical gambling. A good number of my friends are people I met in the gambling shop, and our relationship has gone beyond gambling.

There is a type of gamble called pools that is popular in my country. At the centres where this is done are where you will hear the latest gists in town. We discuss practically about everything, from politics to spots and even real business. Those who have not visited a gambling shop before may not know that gambling can be likened to a culture that has it's uniqueness. Like I said before, physical shop is where real socialisation happens and not online.

807  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 16, 2024, 12:51:55 PM
Plus people in the topic who are convinced that there will be "NO MORE MAJOR DIPS" should stop thinking binarily and start thinking in probabilities. Because with the macro-economics looking bad in major economies like China and the United States, it could start a systemic event that might take the economies in different regions around the world with them.

The unemployment data in the United States will be a leading indicator in knowing if there will be a sudden crash, and if Jerome Powell starts to pivot - For the wrong reasons. The "soft-landing" might not happen. It will be "higher for longer" until something will break.
Instead of the stress of how to think and how not to think, why can't someone just engage in the buying already since that is what we are here to do? Why bother ourselves with if price will dip or not when we could have just start the buying and allow the market decide? I have come to realize that there is no perfect price for entry and the moment one have the mindset of waiting for the dip (aka perfect entry), then doubt and confusion will creep in and the end will most likely not be pleasant.

I have followed your conversation in this thread lately and you seem to have settled for waiting for dips to buy. I understand the advantages but I don't consider it efficient because of the uncertainties that follows it and the chances of poor judgement and emotional torture that it is prone to. So to compensate for the concerns I already stated, one can be waiting for the dip with some portion of the budgeted funds while applying the DCA with part of it. In this case, if the supposed dips happens fine and if it doesn't, then the DCA will suffice, just that the amount invested in this case will be lower than it would have been if one used the entire funds for the DCA.

In addition, isn't it too stressful focusing on economical and fundamental data in making your Bitcoin investment decision when you know that those data are not 100% reliable? I have seen several situations where supposed positive news was followed with massive dump... they will always conjure jargon to justify it. This approve to be has all the attributes of short term investors or traders, hence, my preference of the DCA method.

808  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 16, 2024, 10:31:41 AM
Jose Mourinho sacked! This is a new turn of events that no one was expecting. I wouldn't say it is the fault of his rather it appears that he is unlucky this time around. The disgraceful loss to AC Milan seems to have triggered the management of the club to relief him of his duty. I'm not particularly impressed with that decision but I guess they know better and what is good for the club.

Atalanta just destroyed Frosinone.

Frosinone was a great team at the start of the season but they now lost their momentum and it will be hard for the to avoid the Serie B.
It was an easy win for Atalanta as a lot of things aligned in their favor. Anyone who have ben paying attention will easily put this in his selection as a direct home with even with many goals. 3 goals in first half was no coincidence but deliberate win. The match finally ended 5 goals to nil showing that Atalanta just rediscovered their winning wand.

The also stand a better chance of winning their next match against Udinese to help them in their struggle for the Europa League spot with Lazio who are in the same point with them at present.
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and other cryptos will never become mainstream before... on: January 15, 2024, 11:08:21 PM
Not just because it can buy water means it is mainstream because it is a need to be adopted by worldwide and not just in specific place , remember that there are countries  now that already having this existing like in El Salvador yet is this already mainstream? maybe in their country but worldwide is something we still waiting.
People aren't buying water bottles with Bitcoin in El Salvador or anyplace else. You don't need a government to buy up a bunch of it like they did in order to make Bitcoin mainstream, you need to make it perform comparable to credit card transactions at a comparable price, which Bitcoin is at least 1000x from being.
The water bottles was used as an example to represent basic items. Well, people might not be using Bitcoin to buy a lot of their basic items, probably considering the high fees, but when the dust settles, I'm sure many things can be purchased with Bitcoin in El Salvador and beyond. Personally I have paid for many things through Bitcoin even across borders.

Everybody knows the name "Bitcoin" and it's a meme worth over one half trillion dollars. What more do you want?
I disagree with you that Bitcoin is a "mem". That is far from the truth and seem to me like FUD. If you have not used Bitcoin, then you will never know the power it carries. If you come from a country like mine where there are several restrictions to FX, you will appreciate Bitcoin better. We cherish Bitcoin here because we know how difficult it is for the average man to do business across the globe even in remittances. So Bitcoin is far from being a meme.
810  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: January 15, 2024, 07:13:44 PM
It should be unfair to expect the best performance from Mourinho when he is not given enough opportunities.
On the contrary,  expecting best performance from Jose Mourinho is right and justifiable given his antecedents.  He has all it takes to deliver on any assignment as regards to coaching. In his present club, he has good players and a team With track record. The only challenge he is facing is injuries of players which is normal and also a way of testing how well a coach can improvise.

He's doing his best with Rome. He won the conference cup and reached the final of the European league. It never fails. In my opinion, he is one of the coaches who makes the best use of the opportunities he has. That's why Rome is so lucky to have him.
With all these records, tell me why it will be wrong to expect more from him? He is a great coach that have made history right from Portugal,  to Spain, England and Italy. In each of the clubs he managed, no one will play them without being extremely careful.
811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to manage gambling winnings on: January 14, 2024, 07:41:09 PM
If you're a profitable sports bettor or any casino player, you should make sure to save money for tax time.

Every 2 weeks I calculate my profit on and put 30% away in a ALLY bank savings account that earns 4% APY per year. This way I can earn a little interest on my gambling tax payments.

I also will preload 15% of the prior years winnings into the account, so that I have a good baseline for expected tax. For example, If I made $100k the prior year, I would put $15k at the start of the next year, so that I am earning 4% APY with the money I expect to pay in taxes when I make another 100k. (I will also add 30% of the profit per 2 weeks like mentioned above)
This means you are a profitable gambler unlike many here that sees gambling just as a way of losing money.  I have continually stated that many people are making decent money from gambling, at least a know a lot of them. Glad you put this out so others will know that there are HUMANS that actually win gambles.

What are your strategies?
There is no tax for gamblers in my country. Unless you are gainfully employed or you own a registered business, you are not taxed, not in crypto or gambling or anything. It's actually a nonchalant attitude on the side of government which somehow makes the citizens relaxed.

Arbitrage betting will not get your funds stolen if you live in the United States and are only using books that are regulated. If you use crypto sites, then you would be risking the sites stealing your money.
I don't think I agree with you on this because their are many reputable casinos that accept cryptocurrency.  They are even dominating the gambling industry so if you are still stocked in the old ways, then that is your choice. Crypto has come to change a lot of things and gambling is just one of them.
812  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't trust social media on: January 14, 2024, 07:00:33 PM
Beginners who are desperate to make money will fall for an offer like this , and if you go through the comments sections their are so many people who are so interested in this. Like if you go through the write up of this dude who claims to be bitcoin expert he said those that are finding it difficult to create a wallet he will help in creating the wallet and funding it. This is how many people will make mistakes to accept offer like this just because they want to earn quick.

Spending time to learn pays a lot and it prevent people from making painful mistakes. For those that have knowledge about wallet won't fall victim of allowing anyone to assist to create wallet. Spending time to learn is not a waste, it saves money from entering the wrong hands.

So the plan of this guy is to leverage on the ignorance of a lot of those who cannot setup their wallet in order to scam them? Actually, I don't understand how he will be able to entice people to send money to him, and what he plan to do with the screenshot, or it could be those processes are just to make his dubious scheme appear legit. Apart from saying he will create and fund wallet for those who cannot do it by themselves, this being a red flag, I do no see how he want to get those who can. He requested for a screenshot of their balance and not sensitive information... maybe he will get to the stage of requesting for sensible information.

Personally, I don't follow these fakes on social media. Those who promise huge returns are scammers because if there is anything like that, they will not come to social media, instead they will share it among their families and friends. People should just be careful out there.

814  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: January 14, 2024, 05:18:17 PM
Football management has evolved since he was at Tottenham. Not to mention that when Conte was fired, Tottenham had the opportunity to bring him back but chose other available options (they got a better modern manager).

Before you talk about Poch's successes at Tottenham, keep in mind that he won nothing during the golden Tottenham era and nearly destroyed the team after three brilliant seasons.

Poch is not a bad coach, but he is not the manager for our young project since his player management is terrible.
In your opinion who should be managing Chelsea now?

I will take back either Mourinho or Conte easily - we need discipline and someone to install winning mentality into the players and the team and only Conte and Mourinho can do this in a Short term. But it's not gonna happen, our Owners want the "Yes Sir" manager so Conte and Mourinho are way out of their league.
Personally, I will go with Conte as I believe he has this special way of intilling winning mentality in the players. Mourinho is good in manager players psychology but I believe he has had his time with Chelsea, so his presence will not make much difference.  On the other hand, Conte has a record that has winning as dominant factor. Under him, Chelsea play more of attacking than defending that they do with Mourinho.

So Conte is highly recommended by me to come and change the fortune of the present struggling Chelsea before they face the same fate as Sevilla.

This might just be one of my great lessons of 2024 as the DCA method was for 2023. In other words, I learnt and started using the DCA method 2023, and in 2024, I'm also learning about something that looks like reversed DCA according to @Dkbit98.

I will take time to explore the website to fully grasp what it's all about and also make my input or ask questions, if any. I appreciate the effort you all are making in order to make us enjoy being part of the revolution called Bitcoin.
816  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 14, 2024, 03:00:19 PM
The investor may not be happier than the profit after investing.
From the way 2024 has started, we can imagine that 2024 is going to be good for the Bitcoin market compared to 2023, so now we should pay more attention to investing instead of saving money unnecessarily or keeping cash for ourselves and spending that money. I invested regularly from now on, maybe by the end of 2024 we will see the Bitcoin market double from the current level, but the investment will be ours.

Overall 2023 was a good year for bitcoin and bitcoiners.
I have this testimony to say about the year 2023 as well. I learnt about the DCA method and started using it. I must admit that it marked a turning point in my Bitcoin accumulation with a good proportion of my Bitcoin bought within the "don't wake me up" region.

When price of Bitcoin rose above $30k, my entire asset was already in huge profit and now that market experienced some dips after the ETF approval, I'm still comfortable in profit while still buying more. I rarely look at the price of Bitcoin because I'm more focus on achieving a target set for myself because I'm not using funds meant for my daily needs rather a small fraction of my money that I can afford to leave in Bitcoin even till I retire from active service.

Therefore, I will forever look back to 2023 as a great year.
817  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: January 13, 2024, 02:36:15 PM
I just checked the La Liga table and I was shocked to realize that Sevilla is close to relegation. They are at the 20th position with 16 points, just 1 point ahead of Cadize who occupy the 18th position. I never knew that Sevilla has gotten this bad that they could only win a single match out of their last 6 matches and will be left with the task of fighting to avoid relegation instead of fighting for the title. Spanish La Liga really come with its peculiarity this season.

Yes, tomorrow we will see Girona's game in Laliga against Almeria and this is a very tough match for Almeria because currently Girona is a strong team in Laliga which is ranked 2nd.
Currently, Girona and Madrid have the same points, namely 48 points, so Girona will definitely not waste this match adding points to shift Madrid's position.
However, Almeria will also definitely fight against strength to win the match even though the opponent they will face is a strong team. and in the tomorrow match I bet on Girona winning.
I believe that Girona will continue their title chase unstopped next weekend because Almeria is no match for the present Girona. There is no way they can withstand the fire power of the team that defeated Barcelona at Camp Nuo and also won Athletico Madrid. Girona has shown great strength even at away where they have not lost a single match this season. Other things being equal, this is an easy win for Girona over Almeria that is at the bottom of the table.
818  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 13, 2024, 01:57:25 PM
Definitely two good pick and I am very optimistic that the match would end with a lot of goals scored especially by Man City a win by the visitors is another good option because I think they won't give any room for complacency to drop any point now with the inclusion of Kevin DeBruyne in the squad makes the team more formidable, meanwhile the inconsistency of Newcastle in the league makes it difficult to place a bet on the team, they team started the league on a good note unfortunately later drop form and started losing matches they ought to have win convincingly against some mid and lower table team that is why I can't vouch for the team to win against a strong Man City side.
Manchester City's percentage of winning the match is very large because Newcastle is not in its best form at the moment and also points behind in the standings makes Man City's motivation to win this match very large, I have no doubt that Man City can achieve a convincing victory in this match.
For betting options, I think it's safer to bet on Man City winning with odds @ 1.70, it's quite worth it because if you want to bet on goals over then it's a little risky because Newcastle won't necessarily be able to penetrate the Man City team's defense.
To me the match is a work over for Manchester City because Newcastle, who have become a joke this season, do not stand a chance against them. Going by the stats, it will almost be a miracle for Newcastle not to concede many goals. I think several prediction sites also agree with this even though some try to show mercy to Newcastle by giving them to lose only by 1 goal to 2. Like the site below, you could seen the level of compassion in their prediction.

Even though there is no sure match in the betting business, this Newcastle vs Machester City match seems to be a giveaway match for us today. It is not a financial advice but with a fantastic 1.68 off, it is just like a chance to gain 68% profit of the capital. The challenge is getting the discipline to stand the match alone or greed with creep in to make us add other matches? The decision is in the hands of each gambler.
819  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: January 13, 2024, 01:22:40 PM
Marseille started the second half of the league with a draw. Marseille took the lead with Gigot in the third minute of the match, but could not find the second goal in the remaining time. The best part of the match was Strasbourg. Despite playing away, Marseille bombarded its goal with shots. One of the shots hit the post. Strasbourg scored the equalizing goal in extra time.
90+2. He brought the match to 1-1 with Sebas in the minute.
Jean Onana, transferred from Beşiktaş, played in Marseille for the first time.
Olympique Marseille has once again confirmed how unpredictable French Ligue 1 can be. A lot of people would have lost fortune betting on Marseille to win yesterday. However Strasbourg is not also a bad opponent this season considering the fact that they won 3 of the last matches and drew 1. They even won a strong side Lille who are standing at 28 points this so far, the same with Marseille. The major area of disappointment with Marseille in that match was the fact that they were at home and failed to maximize their home advantage. The only goal that Gigot scored for them was an early goal which I don't consider worth celebrating much as anyone can score an early goal.

I would love to see more seriousness from a top team like Marseille if they nurture the hope of going far in the European league which they qualified for the playoff round and will be facing the Ukranian side Shakhtar Donesk on the 15th of next month.

820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling all about luck? on: January 13, 2024, 10:11:54 AM
It's not all about of luck but sometimes luck dose exist. Ahh let me sheare one think if you are lucky then what happened. I do treading and gambling too. I have prove of luck what happened with me. I traded in previous candle because of gap up opening it refund my amount. We all know that is game of analysis. It also happened in gambling to. Some time analysis not work luck work for you that's the reason luck exist not everytime but sometimes luck make your game.

Trading and gambling are totally different. While the former is entirely based on skill, the later has a mixture of both luck and skill. I'm doing both as well and during my time of leaning trading, the key lesson was never to treat trading like gambling. Meaning that as a trader, one of your main focus is to ensure you don't approach trading with the mindset of a gambler. For instance, the risk exposure in trading is usually less than 2% of the capital, if you want to remain in the business. But in gambling, some people risk as high as 10% or even more. If you base entirely on luck as a trader, within a very short time you will blow your account.
