801  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 03, 2023, 07:06:44 AM
Most people don't really understand that trading of coins is actually the worse thing when you are currently trying to hodl your investment because there is no certainty that it's actually going to work for you on your every try, that's why so many people tend to call it an advance gambling and anyone who thinks he can gamble his way to success is actually not ready to be successful because trading is the height of risk when it comes to relating it to Bitcoin. And believe me as I have learnt this in a very hard way and so not trading your coin is far more better.
Inasmuch as trading is concerned, it is a game of uncertainty. So no matter the fluctuations in markets prices we need to keep DIPPING and HODLING bitcoin, one of the greatest enemy we have in trading is fear as due to the fact that we might buy the DIP and HODL then peradventure in the future the prices of stocks still DIP the more. So using the DCA can help HODL our bitcoin till when it DIP.

Probably one of the greatest enemies of trading is lack of fear and thinking that you got if figured out, and that's probably why more than 90% traders either lose money or do not perform as well as a more straight forward DCA strategy.

In as much as is good to accumulate on Bitcoin dip but it shouldn't be a major strategy because the possibility of Bitcoin dipping all the time for you to accumulate may not be certain so perhaps with that if the price of Bitcoin fails to dip but instead skyrocketing doe it mean that you cannot accumulate?

As an investor, if your plans are to accumulate during dip you can as well introduce a back up plan that if the Bitcoin price give you that opportunity to accumulate if dips that's good but however if it doesn't dip you could as well use the normal DCA strategy to keep accumulating a bit by bit while you wait for the dip to come, with this back up method you can hardly miss out the chances of accumulating Bitcoin.

Bitcoin being a volatile assets can be DIP using the DCA due to the fluctuations in markets prices, it is believed that the prices of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin will still skyrocket so buying the dip using the DCA can help to HODL for the future even if it doesn't DIP the DCA can automatically HODL your bitcoin till when the price will skyrocket, so there is no need to be afraid of buying bitcoin due to the fact that it's rising incessantly.

DCA does not necessarily apply to shitcoins, and so many of us here likely hardly know what the fuck you are talking about if you are suggesting that you can apply similar kinds of DCA principles to various shitcoins as would be reasonably applied to bitcoin.. so part of the reason that we stick with talking about bitcoin in this thread is in order to attempt to stay focused, so if you want to talk about shitcoins or to make vague references to some gobble-dee-gook concept, you probably should be doing that in some other thread rather than this bitcoin thread.  Fuck shitcoins.
Shit coins create a form of scare, doubt and distrust to people new in the crypto space as many of them made investment in them and got ripped. Majority of shit coins are Ponzi schemes by their creators just to scam those with poor knowledge of Bitcoin Bitcoin is unique and it is the only coin I deem worth hodling.Even the word "Hodl" is unique to Bitcoin
802  Other / Beginners & Help / Securing your Bitcoin talk account on: October 30, 2023, 05:26:09 PM
Security is one of the most important section of the crypto space and internet as a whole.Security in the internet simply refers to measures we take to prevent our device, assets or  privacy from cyber threats or attacks associated with the internet.Alot of persons spend much time on this forum while others spend little intervals of time on the forum however both categories of users require security measures to protect their accounts from hacks and other cyber threats.below is a series of things one can do to protect them from such threats.

Note!!--> This post may not contain all security measures therefore any additional information would be appreciated.

1.Always be sure to use a secure internet connection before logging in to your account as using unsecure connections exposes you to cyber threats which in some cases may lead to account ban due to using an IP with record of some units of evil on the forum.

2.limit your logining into your account via public cafes or computer centers as this can pose threats to your login details such as email and password.if possible avoid using public cyber cafes for logging in, instead stick to using a particular personal device this will make it even easier to monitor your IP logins using this function below.

3.Avoid using similar or same passwords on majority of your accounts or logins on different platforms.(try to make your passwords distinct and different.)

4.limit using Google password suggestions and password auto save as this makes it easier for hackers to access your Bitcoin talk account through your Google account.

5. Use the forum hide email address button to conceal your email.This feature is usually turned on by default for added security. However here is a guide to setting it up.

6. Make use of email addresses that seem different from your username as it reduces chances of hackers getting to know your email address easily which could make it easier for your account to be hacked, or your privacy tempered.Below is an illustration.

Compared to ;

7. Make use of secure browsers to avoid phishing attacks or leaking of your info to third parties.also avoid changing your email address frequently as this puts a message on your trust page for a certain period of time.
                    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1.For an extra layer of security forum users can make use of the forum 2FA.This works using a cryptographic proof of ownership which is done by submitting your Bitcoin wallet address on this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0. (Thanks to @Tomatocage) forum moderators can then use the necessary submitted cryptographic details to verify your ownership of the account in the case of hack or loss of account.

2. You can also setup a security question for your account.
You can do this by following the steps below;

 Note!! :Make your security question difficult to figure out avoid simple questions like;
*middle name
*Pet's name
*Mother's maiden name.... etc

3. For additional security set up an SMS 2FA for the email tied to your Bitcoin talk account.

4. Avoid clicking suspicious links.As these links may carry phishing properties or malicious softwares.

5. For more information on security you can see to the posts below;

Hmm, A decent step-by-step guide buddy, keep it up you are doing really well, Newbies ask many repetitive questions, and most of the time they also ask the questions covered in the topic by the OP.

In the same topic, Op can even cover the profile-created settings well, and it would be great if he did so as many of the time users aks abut removing these signatures below every post, and other like setting up Avtar etc.

I will see to creating other guided steps to the things you mentioned @Hamza2424. I have been quite busy lately however I will make out time to create some other guides.
804  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I learned about airgapped wallets on: October 25, 2023, 06:59:55 AM
Nice of you wanting to understand crypto security and privacy better Op. However I will suggest you consider actually setting up an air gapped device by yourself as it will help you understand the concept of air gapping better.
You can check this post
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5467190.msg62863678#msg62863678  as members of the forum were of much help to me while I was still very new to the Bitcoin ecosystem and wanting  to set up my first air gapped device

805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shame on haters for claiming that crypto is widely used in terrorist financing! on: October 25, 2023, 06:46:52 AM
And so what?
Why mind what haters think in the first place? These so called haters have no proof of the fact that Bitcoin is involved in illicit acts.This is not to say that Bitcoin is not used in some illicit acts as Bitcoin is a currency or asset per say so it can be used for whatever transaction or reason.however this reasons depends on the user.the point is Bitcoin is just a currency but it should not be encouraged to being used for illegal or illicit transactions.

806  Other / Beginners & Help / Buttons and tools [A Guide] on: October 20, 2023, 05:09:56 PM
This forum in general has some buttons and functions or tweaks that may  seem hidden to some forum members.most of these buttons help do some important things that we need especially when creating posts or even getting some threads.However forum members tend to master these buttons, functions and tweaks over time.But I am creating this thread with the aim of assisting forum members in getting to know them easily.

Note!!; this thread may not carry all "hidden" functions or buttons therefore any additional information would be appreciated.

807  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [OFF TOPIC THREAD] just a suggestion. on: October 17, 2023, 08:40:05 PM
Nice of you to create this post op.I understand your aim of wanting to organize our local board however there are a couple of things you need to take note of;

1. This is a local board so an off topic thread would not be very necessary ( based on say na we we de dis forum). Other boards having off topic doesn't make it a must for us to have one also.
2.These so called off topic posts is like a form news to some of us  here ( I don enter here many time see better better gist way no relate to Bitcoin but Dem still make sense)
3.keeping off topic posts in a particular thread will kind of hinder noticing recent posts or gists.
4. Lastly If this was a grave importance to the board I believe a legendary member or rather a moderator would have come up with this idea.
808  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is doubling your investment more probable than we think? on: October 15, 2023, 12:49:36 PM
Exactly @Ultegra134 hodling returns over the years under Bitcoin have proven to be very profitable.However one should not input too much trust into Bitcoin rise in the next halving.The idea of Bitcoin reaching $100k or more is a thing of enthusiasm  or hope I would say which still has a chance of happening
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is there an alternative way? on: October 14, 2023, 08:34:42 PM
Hodling is something almost everyone in the Bitcoin ecosystem wants to participate in,and therefore the use of cold wallets and hard ware wallets which deem to be more secure is necessary.However how really does one keep his hodling wallet secret from the internet with the open source nature of Bitcoin. For instance assuming you have multiple Bitcoin wallets and a particular HODLING wallet which you fund using the other wallets(the multiple wallets), using block chain explorers to inspect the transaction history of the other wallets will give a trace to the hodling wallet and therefore give someone the ability to monitor the assets in your HODLING wallet .How then can this problem be solved? Of course someone may suggest Using mixers to run the transactions how ever is there any other alternative way of moving funds to a hodling wallet from other wallets without any trace?
Also I would like to understand more about how mixers work so I will appreciate any summarized explanation or any article on mixing.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My first Bitcoin on: October 11, 2023, 05:13:51 AM
Congratulations @0t3p0t I am very sure a lot of persons here have a similar experience on the forum.rhe most important thing is that you are learning from here instead of spamming the forum with unnecessary posts or scams.And also don't hesitate to teach others what you have also learnt to spread the Bitcoin word

811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Hodling vs trading on: October 10, 2023, 01:15:39 PM
Hodling and trading has always been a debate in the Bitcoin crypto space.Are they different? Of course yes.Hodling is a term used to describe owning Bitcoin in a wallet especially for a long period of time.While trading on the other hand refers to the selling and buying of Bitcoin through an exchange.
 Both Hodling and trading have some similarities such as ;

1. The use of wallets to store Bitcoin.
2. For both trading or hodling to be possible you must own Bitcoin. Although trading requires a minimum amount of coins, hodling does not.
3. Both require you to understand how to secure your coins to avoid hacks or loss of funds.

Nevertheless, despite these similarities hodling and trading are also distinct this is due to the fact that hodling is usually long termed ( hodling appreciates better during long term.) however trading returns come from short term fluctuations in the price of Bitcoin.Due to the uniqueness of Bitcoin,some  persons tend to choose hodling over trading due to some advantages such as;

1. Ease ; hodling Bitcoin saves you the stress of understanding marketing strategies and little price fluctuations As you only store the Bitcoin in your wallet without transacting.(successful trading requires constant research and experience)

2. Transaction Costs ; Hodling comes with a lower transaction cost which is from depositing the Bitcoin in your wallet. However trading incures cost due to frequent transactions especially when the network is congested.

3. Long-Term  Gains ;Over time Bitcoin  has shown promising potential in it's price.Hodling  helps you benefit from the long term potential of Which in most cases appreciates better than little price gains from trading.

4. Security; Hodling your Bitcoin gives you a better option of making use of offline wallets such as air gapped wallets or hardware wallets,As they deem more secure than online wallets

With all these being  said it is important to note that hodling shitcoin is not advisable due to their exponentially high volatility which may lead to severe loss if not properly managed.
Trading and hodling is always a choice as they indirectly serve as balance to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Don't forget to keep your keys safe 😁
812  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I found a good website for learning about bitcoin on: October 09, 2023, 11:12:36 AM
Nice of you sharing your information op but in addition to the resources given by SquirrelJulietGarden I personally believe that the best place to understand Bitcoin properly is actually this forum .
This is because almost every important Bitcoin resource or article is actually here on the forum but some users find it difficult to access them because they do not make proper use of the search buttons and factoids
813  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Things wey people dey do wey fit put their funds for wahala on: October 09, 2023, 11:00:21 AM
I understand watin u de try talk op but d matter be say person way understand Bitcoin security well well no go make all these mistakes.
1.for example pesin way understand crypto security go no say e no supposed use him hodlings wallet for airdrop or other shit coins
2.The Gmail part na something way many newbies for crypto space de do but some for here fit de lie say Dem no de do am.any how securing keys na personal something as long as e no de online and e de safe
3.lastly to set up air gapped wallet de easier and safer than to store for exchange. To set up air gapped wallet self de cheaper than to buy hardware wallet.
814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need to Trade My Coin on: October 03, 2023, 08:08:13 PM

Let me first of all say never be in a hurry to multiply or increase your coin. The crypto market is highly volatile and you can lost everything you have.
First of all op let me start by saying this , Bitcoin is not like other shit coins which can dip exponentially any time.
Quote
To answer the question do I need to trade my coin ? NO and YES
Secondly trading is not a must in the crypto space especially when it comes to Bitcoin.Hodling in most cases is usually the best alternative as it does no require you to understand much of crypto economics as long as your keys and funds are safe you can hodl as long as you wish and possibly sell at bull.

Quote
The value of your coin can increase when you buy at a low prize and keep it for a particular period of time to sell at a higher prize. Please be patient with the process and have a firm believe. It is called Holding.
it would be better if you used the term HODLING as it is more unique to refer to keeping Bitcoins in your wallet.here is a link that will give you an insight of how hodl became unique to Bitcoin

815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should be my next move? on: October 03, 2023, 04:53:56 PM

With the advice I got on using an open source operating system, coupled with some research I decided  to uninstall and replace the windows OS with Linux software

OP, I would also like to hear from you: which Linux system did you choose? In the same way, please answer how quickly you were able to master this axis, and do you have problems understanding the command line and installing wallets in this system? If you're learning things step by step and pretty quickly, it would be interesting to hear about your steps. Wink Wink Wink

Note; I would like to hear answers only from the OP, as a real-time practitioner.

I came across the TREZOR model 1 and ledger nano s.
I am having a hard time choosing one of the two and I am quite concerned about how to get the software as safe as possible to avoid installing a malware alongside,which could put my device at risk.

................

Moreover, OP, you were recently given a good guide on wallets and explained which wallets would be the most optimal to use. Do you even read user responses? In your opinion, everything you wrote here completely discourages discussion on this topic. Do you really need help? Or merit?
Sorry for my late reply @lovesmayfamilis I had some issues with my network service provider.
I am new to the Linux interface however I do have some basic knowledge about software and operating systems so it wasn't very difficult for me to use the Linux OS.However I had a hard time installing the Linux software on my device but I was able to navigate through using some articles and YouTube videos I could not carry out the installation of the Linux software seamlessly I even had to do the installation twice.I used the Linux Ubuntu Os for the PC.
For the air gapping I used a HP Compaq 6910p PC I disconnected the networking components but I left the USB components as it was the medium I used to carry out the Linux installation.
I made this post because I really needed the help.after the air gapping process I got some contradictions on setting up a wallet. But with the help of these threads;
https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html
https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-cold-storage-wallet-in-electrum/
I have been able to sort it out by using an electrum wallet on the air gapped device thank you all for the information.
816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should be my next move? on: October 02, 2023, 11:27:40 AM
First of all, Ledger hardware wallet is not a recommended wallet. If you will not go for Trezor coinjoin which is from Wasabi, you can buy Trezor Model 1, or Trezor Model T for more supported coins. The recommended buy bitcoin-only hardware wallet, I will recommend Passport.

But hardware wallet and wallet on airgapped devices are different topics. If you do not need airgapped wallet, you can use Passport. But if you need airgapped wallet, you can use Electrum or Sparrow on an airgapped device.

I am having a hard time choosing one of the two and I am quite concerned about how to get the software as safe as possible to avoid installing a malware alongside,which could put my device at risk.
You can read this guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5328271.msg56705405#msg56705405

The guide is about sweeping of bitcoin, but it contains how to use Electrum offline on an airgapped devices.

I will definitely read the thread so I can get my air gapped wallet on the go
thanks for the information Bitcoin talkers
817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What should be my next move? on: October 02, 2023, 10:44:56 AM
After successfully setting up my  first air gapped  device with the help of my fellow Bitcoin takers I wanted to proceed to the next step which was setting up a wallet which will be totally offline.
With the advice I got on using an open source operating system, coupled with some research I decided  to uninstall and replace the windows OS with Linux software. I then did some research about good offline wallets  I came across the TREZOR model 1 and ledger nano s.
I am having a hard time choosing one of the two and I am quite concerned about how to get the software as safe as possible to avoid installing a malware alongside,which could put my device at risk.
818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How important is the witness data? on: September 29, 2023, 08:02:23 PM
In SEGWIT transactions the witness data is excluded which makes the transaction occupy a smaller block space however in the legacy address the witness and script data are included increasing block space and transaction fees.my point here is how important is the witness data ? Is it less important that excluding it using SEGWIT will have insignificant effect on the transactions?
819  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Let fear to lose be motivation to learn on: September 29, 2023, 12:14:29 PM
So are you trying to say fear is your drive in the crypto space? Your write up seems to be a form of motivation to newbies but in the real world fear in trading or hodling will only cause losses because you find yourself selling your hodlings in dip instead of strategizing when to sell and hodl in bull.instead of letting fear drive you I suggest you allow experience and research take the place of fear.
Quote
Since I know cryptocurrency my biggest fear is to lost all my capital or large amounts in trading or investment,
the main reason people lose in the crypto space is lack of sufficient knowledge and research  I don't think if you have a good understanding of block chain and Bitcoin basics you will end up just losing your funds or hodlings.
820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How is this possible on: September 27, 2023, 10:25:27 PM
Every since I got to know about the MEMPOOL I have been kinda obsessed with it today while I was browsing through the mempool I noticed a particular transaction of over 6 Bitcoins having a fee of $0.00 this was odd to me because I usually come across those with very little fees but not with zero fees.What baffled me the most was the fact that the transaction had 33 confirmations.
Here is the hash id of the transaction 6036af43db95e0ef572f9bbc536739838b680a053a564a41120ab77b0697500e
The transaction was mined in block 809608 and was confirmed about 5 hours ago
