801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What If There Is A Ban on: February 25, 2023, 01:57:54 AM
We all agree we're living in a crazy world and what's far worse is that it is managed by a bunch of clowns..
So, let's think wildly, one day US were to further increase the censorship just like some of the other countries in the world, they ban bitcoin, they ban VPN, they pass legislation for those who mine/trade/spend btc will be sent to jail.
(Let's not say it's not going to happen. It can! You never know just like you would never have known that there's a war in 2022.)

Other countries start to follow.

Where will you be and what kind of life will it be and how is it going to impact yours?
I understand that many people are saying it's not a problem and bitcoin is decentralized and all that. But we also have to agree that the price would take a hit, it wouldn't be that easy to just let it work that way, it would cause a lot of trouble for many people. I personally believe that many of the Americans who hear that it's illegal or basically regulated harshly, would end up selling all of their coins, definitely the big companies that hold it and they would just run away.

This is why it would be a lot better if we could just hope for USA to never ban it, not like they have a reason to neither so I doubt they would, but it would be better for the price if they keep it legal.
There is just no way you could pass a legislation in  most western countries, including the US, to ban Bitcoin. Stricter, more annoying KYC and similar mechanisms? Sure. Restriction on mining and power consumption? Sure. Maybe even state-based licenses for exchanges. Yes. But a complete ban on owning, or even trading Bitcoin? It's not gonna happen unless a totalitarian regime is taking over that wants to harm Bitcoin.
Also, keep in mind - if certain countries ban Bitcoin, they could bring their tech-sector as well as other huge industries in a huge disadvantage in comparison with countries that allow Bitcoin. So even if that happens for some countries, industries etc. will just move into other regions of jurisdiction. Just my 66 sats.

[...]
Though the problem is more than that. It has been locked in a paradigm that does not work. It had to become a [global] peer-to-peer electronic cash. [...]

In tradition with other replies, let me start in the same way: No offens bro, but...

... but it doesn't matter what's written as a headline in the Bitcoin whitepaper or what Satoshi envisioned or didn't envision. Right now, Bitcoin serves mostly as a digital store of value, similar to gold. However with a bunch of massive advantages in comparison to gold.
There are lots of approaches to also add the "electronic cash" idea, such as the lightning network but that's still not it's main use-case. Your visions of a turing complete Bitcoin similar to Ethereum may become a reality. But not in the near future, and it is also not necessary at all right now.
The need for a decentralized, borderless and secure payment- and store-of-value system exceeds the need for a dApp-overflow that ETH and similar chains are experiencing - there is no majority that wants to risk Bitcoin's stability and security to implement these features.
Especially since these other chains run well and at least Ethereum does have some kind of real decentralization going on.

I clearly realise that Bitcoin should change its strategy.
You've misunderstood Bitcoin then. Bitcoin is characterized by conservatism. Monetary conservatism to be precise. And, apparently, it works. People want financial conservatism, because it acts as ground to the potential flaws a progressive economy might have. You don't do experiments to Bitcoin on a protocol level, because they break this important part of the system.

The need for a decentralized cryptocurrency has become satisfied. If you've thought of anything beyond that, propose it / talk about it / implement it. The risk of messing up the world's reserve currency to bring some questionable progress isn't worth it.
Exactly this.

Lot 8: 0.0018
Lot 9: 0.0062

Question regarding Lot 9: Did I miss the sale of these? Were these bars already made available for normal purchase in the forum or elsewhere? Feeling confused right now, lol.
Thanks.

Regarding Red Room "set" - does it mean soft cover + Ed Piskor variant as seen here: https://www.fantagraphics.com/collections/ed-piskor/products/red-room-trigger-warnings-3?variant=42182815777014
?
Anyone read that thing - is it good?
805  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 1 of 2 Squirrelbits TI Slab “Burn It All F***in Down” on: February 23, 2023, 11:30:20 PM
Bump. Looking for around .075-.09 BTC for this 1 of 2 Squirrelbits

Don't be afraid to shoot an offer over

Reducing price for the next 48 hours.  .04567BTC for this 1 of 2 piece

PM if interested

Reducing price one final time and it is valid for 24 hours

.04 BTC for this 1 of 2 piece

PM

I think this is a very fair price for an awesome looking piece of squirrel-history.
What keeps me personally back is the strange open-dime seperation. I prefere a one-piece for everything. But that's personal preference I guess.
GL with the sale, I'd be suprised if this will be available for long.
806  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Loaded Crypto Imperator Silver 100K Super Doge #16/25 on: February 23, 2023, 11:26:22 PM
13 of the 25 (52%) coins have been redeemed making this even more rare! Cool
Good luck with the auction
My god what a crazy piece of fun crypto-history.
If Elon became aware of these their value would probably double once more?

Yeah, out of my range but GL to any happy whale able to catch this. Smiley
807  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] 2016 LEALANA BRASS 5 XMR on: February 23, 2023, 11:15:31 PM
Yummy.  Shocked
Recently I've seen quite a few extremely low-ending auctions. Wonder what's going on in the forum and if this is going to change with another huge (Bitcoin price) upswing?
Anyway, thanks for the auction, answering your PM now @Eclipse33
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The bolt driver experience: promoting bitcoin in my business on: February 21, 2023, 04:57:07 PM

[...]

I got some bitcoin stickers and for my car and It's been about two weeks since I displayed it and no one has patronize me in bitcoin. Though, some of my passengers see it and engage me in one or two conversation. Today, I carried a passenger and when he saw the stickers and was like do you accept bitcoin and I said yes and he said do you know you are the first bolt driver I have actually seen accepting bitcoin and I smiled. He asked me if I have actually received any payment in bitcoin and I answered not yet, and he said I will be your first customer to pay you in bitcoin. We talked a lot during the trip and our discussion was mainly centered on cryptocurrency, mass adoption, crypto ban in the country. At the end of the trip, he paid me in bitcoin with additional tip and I felt really happy about it. I know this is little but I hope it would help to promote mass adoption of bitcoin in my locality, the nation and passes a message to people out there that bitcoin is here to stay and all we can do is to embrace it and be part of history.

Great work and congratulations on your first BTC payment.
I truely believe that these tiny steps are ultimately what will bring real / mass adoption to Bitcoin. It's something that is still spreading slowly, but there will be some waves of wider adoption, depending on situations like describe in your post (in this case getting hold of the new fiat notes). So great work and well earned merit from my side.
809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What If There Is A Ban on: February 21, 2023, 04:01:58 PM
I mean this topic has been brought up hundrets of times already.

So let me just say this: It's gonna be a constant back-and-forth -> legislation to increase control and cencorship vs innovation to protect privacy and freedom.
Subtle attempts to control crypto and Bitcoin specifically will be more efficient and are more scary than direct bans - because these things can happen unnoticed to the majority of Bitcoin users, which is far more scary than direct attacks (which would probably have an opposite effect because there would be a lot of resistence in freedom based societies).

811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to surprise a friend on: February 20, 2023, 10:05:04 PM
Is Bitcoin a perfect birthday present for a 25 years old college student? I want to surprise a friend, he is facing a lot of challenges due to his studies and he likes Bitcoin but can't afford investing money because of his studies since he is sponsoring himself, we've been together since 2011 and his birthday is on 27th of this month, do you think 0.03BTC is a cool present 🎁 for a birthday.

Would you love to accept Bitcoin as a Birthday Gift?

Generally I think it's a great idea, however, given the circumstance you are describing your friend in it could be problematic If he is struggling with money currently. He might be tempted to cash out these 0.03 or maybe cash it out within the next bull-run period and then regret it later.
You could look into timelock transactions for Bitcoin, and maybe lock up the BTC for 3 or 5 years to come.
Still, if you have the money to make such a gift, it's always great to introduce someone who doesn't have the capacity to do so by themselves right now.

813  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Binance on: February 19, 2023, 04:03:14 PM
[...]
That's bizarre, if anything, BNB would fall much closer to being security than BUSD.

All this fits in into operation Chokepoint 2.0 theory. Or maybe it's just a result of a geopolitic tensions between US and China, as Binance is rumoured to have quiet support of the Chinese governmet.

Exactly. But it's not about logic, rather it's about the message and effect it may have on similar stable coins.

It's a scary development, but of course similar moves from SEC were to be expected for quite a while now. I'd guess this is just the beginning of a huge crackdown on crypto with a shift towards official, centralized government-friendly organizations ruling over stable-shitcoins.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Approximately 384 Days until the next Bitcoin halving on: February 19, 2023, 03:53:18 PM
My view on this is neutral. Ok, 4th halving. So what? It isn't an experimental dev game anymore.

Funny thing is that both these two, and the one at the OP are different estimations.

Let's break it down a bit. The next halving will emerge in 840,000 - 774,889 = 65,111 blocks. That's approximately 651,110 minutes, which is 10,852 hours, or 452 days. So bitcoinblockhalf.com calculations are right.

maybe the same as the prediction from Coingecko who also did the determination ;

https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin/bitcoin-halving#:~:text=When%20Is%20The%20Next%20Bitcoin,will%20be%20reduced%20to%203.125.

Not sure if an exact date is important at all, except of course for the miners themselves.
It's always interesting to see the conecpt of "already priced in" with information that are openly available, such as the approx. halving date - but then still seeing a strong effect after it has taken place.
For previous halvings that means the effect was not fully priced in already - will this change this time and we see a more gradual price adjust until shortly before or after the actual halving and then no crazy pump this time? I wonder...

Just want to jump in real quick and say thanks for the efforts on this bot.
Trying it out now and hopefully miss less of all the important things going on in the forum.

Love to see this is still in active development, too.  Shocked
817  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] never miss a free raffle/auction again on: February 19, 2023, 03:39:52 PM
Pretty sick tool. Probably been living too long without it already.
Time to try it, just hope it doesn't get too distracting, though.

Anyway, kudos to the dev TryNinja and anyone promoting that thing.

Check price Lealana please.
Not sure what you mean. Why should I check the price for Lealana? You mean the 4-coin set?
If you want to make an offer, send me a dm!
820  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] What are these Lealana coins? OH MY............ on: February 19, 2023, 02:58:30 PM
These look crazy but good.
Makes me anticipate the new silver releases and the corresponding gilt coins even more - Generally I am not too interested in fully gilt coins, but looking at these pictures may have changed my mind.

On a side note: I find any "unlisted super secret cool on the side special project for special people" a bit annoying. But maybe I am just jealous.
