8021  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout + Free BTC + Multi-Bet Insurance on: July 19, 2021, 07:56:35 AM
have you tried refreshing your connection?
I have, yes, but that didn't help. I tried using Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, but it's the same thing on both. On my mobile, there was no captcha or a while, but it's there now as well.

Maybe I need to place a bet like Twinkledoe mentioned to be allowed to claim again. I'll take a look at today's offer to see if I can find anything with value. I  think it's better to know the reason and see a notification why you can't claim the faucet instead of being asked to solve the captcha over and over again.
8022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto Portfolio Diversification on: July 18, 2021, 08:39:19 PM
When it comes to diversifying your portfolio to reduce the risks of market volatility, most crypto assets just follow the trajectory of bitcoin. If bitcoin starts dropping so does the majority of altcoins. Although diversification is generally a good idea, most of the time it doesn't do much good in the crypto niche.

One way to prevent losing short-term value is to convert your assets to stablecoins if you believe a significant drop is about to happen. That then opens up other potential problems that are tied to stablecoins like the uncertainty of their future and what they are backed by. Not to mention that most stablecoins are centralized assets (except DAI) that can be locked even if they are in your own personal wallet. Check out mk4's thread PSA: Most Stablecoins Can Be Frozen, Even in Your Own Wallets.
8023  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout + Free BTC + Multi-Bet Insurance on: July 18, 2021, 08:18:41 PM
Is it no longer possible to claim the free bitcoin faucet? I noticed that you added a captcha that needs to be solved. But even when it gets solved, clicking on the claim button doesn't do anything. It just creates a new captcha and it goes around and around with no end in sight.

Salary can be likened to the merit system here.
That is not the purpose the merit system was created for. It's supposed to be be used to reward good posts, and that is it.

You are suggesting merits as an additional bonus on top of the merits people already receive, is that it? Or are you thinking more of a system where merits are rewarded for certain services? The latter makes it look like merits are exchanged/sold for services, which shouldn't be done.

If merits are given as a bonus, where do those merits come from? Let's say we had a threshold where all members who earned 100 merits in a 30 days period get an additional 10 merits as bonus. But where do these 10 bonus merits come from? From the forum automatically? Theymos could probably automate something like that, but I don't think it will happen.

Maybe I still didn't understand the reward system you suggest, so please provide a precise example.
8026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [VIDEO]: Bitcoin Exists Only in Satoshi's Imagination on: July 18, 2021, 07:54:48 AM
Watch the video again.
Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to the video. I was too busy withdrawing my imaginary bitcoin clown money from an online bookmaker. The fact is I made a nice little profit betting on a basketball match yesterday with 2.60 odds. Luckily the mempool is empty so the imaginary withdrawal fees are almost non-existent. I need a new monitor because the old one is acting up. I will use my winnings to buy one from a local tech store that happens to accept Satoshi's daydream coins.

Good day to you sir!
8027  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: July 18, 2021, 07:23:06 AM

A system that has a means of punishing the offenders or disobedience, should have a means of rewarding the law abiding members. When there are no means of rewarding goodness, it will surely decline.
For instance, if there is a reward for a newbie who under few months grew an account to full member without spamming or plagerising, it will in no doubt jealous others to begin to make merit-worth posts.
Can you give an example of what kind of rewards system you are talking about? How it would work, and where do the rewards come from. If a newbie manages to rank up to full member (and some have even ranked up to legendary), the whole community took part in his progress. That's the reward. The 100, 250, 500, or 1000 merits he received along the way is the community's way of saying we see you and we appreciate what you are doing.
8029  Economy / Gambling / Re: FORTUNEJACK.COM |Deposit 777 play with 1777 mBTC |Live Casino, Slots, Betting on: July 18, 2021, 06:25:25 AM
I have never seen an automatic conversion from altcoins into bitcoin in my account either. I have played with and deposited ether several times and it was never converted to bitcoin. When I won, I was able to withdraw my winnings in ether. But I do remember one instance where a conversion from bitcoin to ether happened for some reason. I initially deposited bitcoin, placed a bet, and when I wanted to withdraw it, my winning balance was displayed in ether instead.
8030  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 18, 2021, 06:17:46 AM
BetJa is a good gambling site but people should be aware that there is also a gambling site that is similar to BetJa, it is Bet9Ja which is others avoided.
I was talking about https://betja.com/.
There is almost no information about Bet9Ja on Bitcointalk except a post from a user who mentioned it in connection to the most popular Nigerian sports betting sites. From what I can see, It's a fiat-only bookmaker that doesn't accept cryptocurrencies, so it has no chance to be on this list no matter its reputation.
8031  Other / Meta / Re: Account perma banned by plagiarized... on: July 17, 2021, 04:45:27 PM
As far as getting a warning, I'm not sure why you were expecting one or why you wouldn't have read the rules before committing the offense.
By looking at the post lovesmayfamilis wrote, he knew that plagiarizing isn't allowed and shouldn't be done. But weeks after creating a thread in which he talks about how bad it is, he copy-pastes from a few sources in one of his posts. I don't see how the admins will overlook that. But like I said previously, everyone has a right to appeal and he can try it as well.
8032  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: July 17, 2021, 04:34:15 PM
Honestly, i don't like writing article solely for SEO. The article usually have mediocre quality and not really helpful. We better learn few thing from Stack Overflow/Stack Exchange (https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/14056). They have good SEO, while maintain content quality and doesn't create article solely for 1st result on search engine.
As you pointed out, it can be done. Targeting top spot might be too much, but having the forum appear on the first page of search results for certain keywords is doable with a quality SEO team.

Another thing that probably attracted more people to bitcointalk are altcoins; from my experience, new people tend to get into altcoins first (looking for quick profit) and then later on focus more on bitcoin.
Good point. I am sure many of our currently active members started out collecting a few alts and shitcoins along the way. As the time passed, they either made some profit or learned from their mistakes and moved to bitcoin. But 2017/2018 was a long time ago.

A third friend managed to register and luckily didn’t get the message that an evil fee should be paid but as soon as he started posting on this forum he was severely attacked by other members for a couple of unintentional, beginner mistakes he made like restarting an old thread that he simply gave up and said he would never return to this forum again.
That happens unfortunately and I have seen it as well. We, the elders can be tough sometimes when freshlings start breaking the rules. Some are justifiably put in their place, while some, like your friend, receive too harsh of a treatment.

I can't imagine how this forum will have any user appeal if altcoins (bounty) are removed.
That won't happen. Even with all the problems the altcoin boards bring, theymos and the admins are well aware of how much appeal it has to many people and I don't see them cutting off their hand.

Also, I don't think that Bitcointalk is losing it's user base, there are new users in the forum that are slowly making merits and making a name for themselves, it's a slow burn so there's nothing to worry about.
It's not really a matter of opinion. You have stats in the OP of this thread and several other threads that show a decrease in activity and active users. Those can't be overlooked and ignored by having a different opinion.
8033  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: July 17, 2021, 03:45:01 PM
Not paying for post is the best thing that ever happen to bitcointalk
Getting paid for posting should be a privilege you earn by bringing quality to the boards and engaging the community in discussions. It shouldn't be there from the get-go. You can compare it to when you were a kid and started kicking a ball for the first time. As you grew up and developed, you started kicking it better and you played with your friends after school. You liked it so you joined a sports academy. If you are any good and show potential, you get a contract and make a career out of it.

Maybe the comparison is a little exaggerated, but the point is you weren't paid to play with your friends or when you started running after the ball aged 4. It's similar on the forum. You are a newbie when you come here. You start reading and learning, asking questions, and helping others with the things they don't know. You get noticed and merited, you develop and reach higher ranks, and you end up getting selected by a campaign to promote it and earn while doing so.
8034  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 17, 2021, 03:33:52 PM
Can we also include sports betting exchanges in the list ?
Sure, I don't see any reasons why not. Fairlay has been around for many years already and I can't remember ever reading something negative about them. I will have a look at Fairlay. I am planning to include Betja as well. It's a relatively new sportsbook-only site, but seems quite interesting to me.
8035  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetJA.com | The highest Payout + Free BTC + Multi-Bet Insurance on: July 17, 2021, 08:57:35 AM
If you see a notification like "bet not accepted", just try it after a few seconds. There are situations in live betting where the market gets closed that will prevent you from placing a bet. If one team is in a dangerous goal scoring opportunity, the markets can close. If there is a penalty or there is a possibility there will be one, the markets will close. The same happens for red cards and the possibility of VAR usage. Not to mention connection issues.
8036  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: July 17, 2021, 08:33:24 AM
SEO (ffs), etc.
The forum has hundreds of bitcoins, why not use a tiny bit of that to create some search engine optimized content to get the forum to rank a bit better for certain keywords/keyphrases? The services board has dozens of content writers, some of them certainly know how to write SEO content, and if not, someone could be found for such a task.
8037  Other / Meta / Re: Account perma banned by plagiarized... on: July 17, 2021, 08:24:30 AM
Op doesn't have a chance to be given the second chancw to prove himself. I don't think that mods and admin is easy to convince if you don't have nothing to show or prove you are worthy to ve given a second chance.
I know that and I don't think the ban decision will be changed either. I just noted down what is needed to even be considered in the first place. The purpose of my last sentence is for him to understand will the Bitcointalk community miss him and notice he is no longer here considering the contributions he made in the past. If he thinks he will be missed, he is free to back that up with some proof and reasons why.
8038  Other / Meta / Re: [Proposal] Hiding the signature space in the Off-Topic section on: July 17, 2021, 08:10:08 AM
We aren't tackling the problem from its root which is the way managers hire their participants and have then no responsibility.
There are no rules when it comes to how a campaign is supposed to be handled and which participants it can or can not accept. There are only the rules that the manager of the campaign follows and if he wants he can decide to accept only negatively tagged users. You can also not prohibit someone from becoming a campaign manager or being a bad one. It comes down to the users themselves. They are the only ones that can make the choice to be in a spam/scam campaign or not. We saw it with Yobit, we see it now with 1xbit.

Even if the community would start to negatively tag campaign managers who pay for spamming, I don't think that would prevent spammers from joining campaigns managed by that person.
8039  Other / Meta / Re: What happens to the forum if Theymos was to disappear? on: July 17, 2021, 07:37:24 AM
The problem we have currently from my knowledge is we only have one point of failure regarding the recovery of the Bitcoin domain name if theymos was to ever disappear.
What we know of. But no one except theymos knows what he did after he became the owner of the domain. If that happened on 17 April 2020, there is a possibility that on 18 April, theymos already took necessary steps in regards to what will happen if he is no longer here. Or ony day after that. Theymos had management access under Cobra, so it's possible that Cyrus now has management access under theymos.

My question is how can we better secure the domain in the event that theymos disappears (something that I am not saying will happen or is even likely too)
Of course it will happen. theymos will die one day, same as you, and the same fate awaits me. Theymos is quite responsive when it comes to things related to the forum. The best is to ask him directly to avoid all the speculation. Maybe he made his decision long time ago but he doesn't want to name his successors in public to not put a target on their back.

I was hoping he'd tell us something about how he thinks the merit system is going, but instead he just created more merit sources and upped the existing sources' sMerits.
By doing that he gave us an answer. I see it as we need more merit sources to give out more merits. Those who are doing a good job already will receive a bigger supply of sMerits to hand out. If it was the other way around and he removed a few merit sources or decreased the overall supply, that would mean that too many merits are handed out and we need to slow down.
8040  Other / Meta / Re: Account perma banned by plagiarized... on: July 17, 2021, 07:02:00 AM
The only thing you can do now is try to convince the admins theymos and Cyrus (hilariousandco can also unban people) that the forum will lose a quality member and contributor if you remained banned. That's not an easy thing to do because it requires that you show what you have done so far which warrants that you be given a second chance.

The question you need to ask yourself is how has the forum benefited while I was here and what will it miss if I never returned again?
