8041  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance case shows that crypto community is stronger than ever on: May 10, 2019, 03:39:16 PM
It's because the cryptomarket had already matured and understands that throwing stones on a hacked exchange only makes matters worse and nothing's changing unless something's done to help the recovery of the said exchange. The days of bashing hacked exchanges are long over and people are just helping each other as long as the operators are willing to cooperate with law enforcement and users who are affected by the hack. Well, props to Binance for using the SAFU fund to cover the losses, it helps maintain the credibility of the cryptocommunity.
8042  Economy / Economics / Re: Deflation based currency such as Bitcoin to counter promote economy. on: May 10, 2019, 01:02:04 PM
It'll be hard to be completely reliant on a fully-deflationary currency such that there will not be a way to stimulate the economy and control the flow of cash in the event of a financial crisis. On paper, deflationary currencies seem to be "perfect" in storing value, but currencies are meant to be spent and not hoarded; it needs to go around in order to be useful. In a society where everyone is holding and very few is spending, how can one ensure the stability of the domestic economy?
8043  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Bill to Ban Buying All Cryptocurrencies on: May 10, 2019, 12:24:48 PM
They're scared that their little piggy banks and magic sticks (banks and fiat) will get overtaken by this financial instrument tool. They know so well that it can't replace fiat, but once people shifted their interest towards crypto, people will start losing trust into fiat and all hell will break loose from where they are contained right now. It's inevitable that fiat will have its ups and downs, but then again it still remains to be one of the most flexible (albeit destructive) financial system introduced after the gold standard is broken, and banning cryptocurrencies wouldn't even help in their cause, lol.
8044  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin rises very fast! on: May 10, 2019, 10:30:15 AM
FOMO paired with market manipulation and hype from different people. It wouldn't be possible to rise this fast if April 1st didn't happen, as it was the primary driver of all things bullish right now. Most moolah is also pouring in from altcoins to bitcoin at a crazy rate, as evidenced by lousy trading volumes for the altcoin market. Right now, it's just people afraid to miss out an opportunity to make some handsome profits, but it could always be more than that and we will never know.
8045  Economy / Speculation / Re: the bull run is confirmed. on: May 10, 2019, 04:27:11 AM
$6500 is a crucial point for this current run as we know that it is one of the heavy resistance around for bitcoin before meeting $7000 and higher targets. Should we breach that while momentum is still on our side, the possibility to open up the gates for higher highs is very promising, but if not, we might see ourselves stagnating yet again on upper $5000 and $6000 levels.

As for the alts, it's a given that we are seeing inactivity on that side of the market when bitcoin is pushing because traders follow where the money is. The money is just being concentrated into bitcoin more than anywhere else right now, so expect the alts to be in a clumsy state.
8046  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex ‘Official Doc’ Confirms Plans to Raise up to $1 Billion in IEO for... on: May 09, 2019, 08:51:57 PM
With the current situation and hot water Bitfinex has plunged itself in, I don't think someone in their right mind would willing partake in their IEO. The issues with Tether even up to this day just gives out more and more insights and 'leaks' of its true nature which then lowers the trust of people to the said token, and now this? If anything, I would distance myself away from such things, and quite possibly convert my Tether into something else, for good.
8047  Economy / Speculation / Re: Now that bitcoin has crossed $6100, what are your thoughts? on: May 09, 2019, 08:35:46 PM
Definitely bullish but with reservations for setbacks, especially those who were left hanging after price crashed so hard back to $3000 levels. I'm quite surprised that the price never encountered huge sells after it crossed the $6000 mark which just goes to show that a lot of people are still believing that this would continue going higher and giving us a good bump that we need. Perhaps this is just another mini rallies but for the mean time, momentum is so good for us to not ride it while it's on.
8048  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the point of these hacks? on: May 09, 2019, 08:12:01 PM
I'd go with number 2 sans the stupid part. Overconfident, yes, but stupid? I don't think so. Some hackers are just really good with what they're doing and gets the better of most top-notch security systems at times. Also, no system is bulletproof and there will be some sort of attack vector and weak spot no matter how secure a system is. It's quite unfortunate for Binance to lose that amount of money, and it's good on them to cover up the losses for their users so I don't think they wish ill-fate on crypto in the first place.
8049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin attained the maturity stage or is too early? on: May 09, 2019, 07:16:33 PM
Too early to say matured, but I guess the right wording is that the market currently is too stoked about keeping that upward momentum that negative news and bad press doesn't stop it. Well, for one we have moved on with China's antics that it's no longer a big deal, and with hacks and negative reports for the recent months, we have seemed to shrug it off easily and continue on in our pace. Perhaps in a few more years, when the market is really diverse and spread out, such news will no longer be a detriment to price pushes and just something to keep things 'natural' for the whole ecosystem.
8050  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What people prefer Now- A Centralized or Decentralized Exchange on: May 09, 2019, 06:50:40 PM
Should have been an advertisement to your site, eh? Anyway, if I have given the chance to trade at a decentralized exchange, I'd do it, though there seems to be not much of an activity going on for such kind of exchanges and to be frank, the ones that we have right now aren't as inviting as most traders want them to be, so we all end up using centralized exchanges. If there'd be any DEX that lives up to the hype of traders, I would definitely switch and use it and never look back.
8051  Economy / Economics / Re: Regulation of Cryptocurrency Around the World on: May 09, 2019, 06:18:52 PM
This looks good, and it will look better as soon as some of those greyed-out countries turn green. I bet that this would get kicktstarted by promoting cryptocurencies from the countries that already recognize crypto as something good and something that can be used alongside fiat and other assets. It'll have a domino effect once the majority of the world starts using/recognizing bitcoin, and we're slowly inching towards just that.
8052  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: how to report bitcoin earnings on: May 09, 2019, 05:31:50 PM
Tough call. As a freelancer myself, and have received bitcoins as well for some payments, I just declared it as a normal income tax since freelancers like me are deemed as employed still. It's as easy as that, though the process is somewhat taxing and time-consuming. I can always opt to not pay taxes because I am not forced or obliged to, but then again I'm doing this in order to not get complications as time passes by. It might be different from your country but AFAIK and have read, freelancers are considered as employees still. It only gets tricky because some countries recognize bitcoin as an asset/property and some consider it as a currency.
8053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spain – busted - Crypto ATMs used to launder narco money on a large scale on: May 09, 2019, 04:50:48 PM
I bet my money on the operator knowing about the money laundering.
Let's be serious, who is laundering money at a 7% fee, tx fee, again BTC > fiat fee.

If one is already profiting a huge sum of amount from an unknown patron/benefactor, it does not matter what that entity does or where the funds come from as long as the operator is making moolah. I don't think the operator knows of the shady activity, but rather choose to not know about it.

--

Puts bitcoin ATMs in quite a bad light. This might tighten already existing regulations and prerequisites before setting up a bitcoin ATM. It'll be harder to procure documents and get passed now knowing that such things can be done in a large scale, that's why I've been questioning for quite some time now if bitcoin ATMs are really *that* important in today's society with only a handful really involved in cryptocurrencies at this day and age.
8054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is irreversible: strength and weakness on: May 09, 2019, 08:59:07 AM
It should always be irreversible and by no means a done deal once the sent button is done. However one can still divert the said transaction if it isn't confirmed yet, so the mistake can somehow be corrected within a few minutes, so people should be keen on the details of their transactions. As for thefts and fraud, I can say that the irreversible nature of tx somewhat pushes people to better their security and the way they keep funds. It's a double-edged sword, but certainly a good thing since it urges people to take extra caution in handling their money in order to prevent hacks and thefts.
8055  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance #safu fund on: May 09, 2019, 08:37:03 AM
As far as i am concerned, malicious actor were able to obtain API keys, 2FA codes, etc.. from the victims, correct ?

Why does binance even cover those losses which obviously happened due to people who have no idea how to secure sensitive information ?

In order to negate bad press, and to ensure that people will keep patronizing them. Also, the SAFU fund does not specify which 'extreme cases' is it talking about, so surely this does fall under Binance's terms for SAFU, because CZ already announced it.

So.. i see 3 possibilities:
1) Binance indeed head a security breach and feels responsible
2) This is some sort of 'hackers stole money' - tax fraud from binance
3) Binance is just plain stupid for covering the losses caused by the victims

1. Highly likely, as shrugging it off would make them look as if they aren't concerned for their customers' funds.
2. Could be, and a highly successful cover-up if you ask me.
3. They surely have thought this out with their legal counsel so this is out of the equation.
8056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what we can buy with bitcoin ?? on: May 09, 2019, 08:09:48 AM
Philippines and Canada here. Currently I'm residing in the Philippines and there are limited ways to use your bitcoins directly, though there's one exchange that lets you buy/pay for a lot of things through their service. Just last week, I went on and dine at a resto bar somewhere in the heart of Makati and they had this kind of promotion running solely for bitcoin. Food is good, drinks are great and cheap, too. As for general merchandise, I think there's nothing around yet for such trades to happen.
8057  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: only the price of Bitcoin is increasing? on: May 09, 2019, 07:33:42 AM
Hello, I don't have a lot of knowledge in crypto world so my question may be ridiculous ...

I bought a lot of altcoins when btc was 4000$, from the day back to now bitcoin gained 2000$ and my wallet is almost the same, I also lost money for some alt coins, my question:

Is it possible that this "pumping" Is a wanted behaviour from those who have control on the market? Is it possible that they manually-secretly decreasing altcoins on purpose, for the will of bitcoin? (Excuse my baguette i'm french)

They are not intentionally manipulating alt coins but rather the money is being transferred from altcoins into bitcoin simply because traders know that there will be a push.
8058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Hack and The Rollback on: May 09, 2019, 06:47:58 AM
I remember the scene from Avengers where the Hulk explains that what happens in the past cannot be changed, and if it does, the future is somewhat ruined. If the rollback is done, imagine how much damage it could do to the whole bitcoin network just for the benefit of one network. It's a good thing they are no longrr vying for such action to be done because the complications can be so severe and the damage, irrepairable.
8059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs USD Storing Value on: May 09, 2019, 04:15:18 AM
They are different because that's how they were designed. Having said that, if the USD is also a deflationary currency (lol this will never happen), then we can see its value rising over time however that means limited control for the government. The government needs to control their money supply in order to match that of the current economic situation of the country and of the world. They'd print up more money when needed and hoard when needed, too. On the other hand, bitcoin's price is decided by speculation and optimism, causing the price to go up higher than before in every cycle that happens within its market.

And no, the USD is not faling due to crypto.
8060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please help urgently, usdt cheated to a cheating usdt address on: May 08, 2019, 10:05:57 PM
Clearly one of them expensive trades gone wrong scenarios. It's hard to know whether an address is associated to a certain persona or not by just looking at it plainly. The only thing you can do is dig information on the platform you mentioned and start from there. If there's a substantial amount involced, I guess the police can ask the said platform to divulge information and help with the proceedings. I'm sorry, but this seems to be a hard case with quite a lengthy resolution.

Next time, try to use escrows and only deal with reputable platforms to not get scammed.
