8081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CBM- Central Bank Mining....a cure? on: March 15, 2021, 08:53:49 AM
When you say efficient technology you're not talking about BTC right???

You didn't understand what I wrote? I talked about magnetic tape and paper records, not Bitcoin. And the topic is central bank mining... I'm saying if we want efficient tech adopters, banks won't be that.

Quote
The average energy consumption for one single Bitcoin transaction in 2020 was 741 kilowatt-hours.

That's pure insanity to me... People need to stop turning a blind eye to what we are doing here, this isn't efficient, it's insane!

People need to stop looking at this blindly, ignoring cost-benefit. That is insane, I agree, to accept banks are doing what they're doing and we can't get better.
8082  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cloud Mining Revamped on: March 15, 2021, 06:39:29 AM
The closest I ever saw to a viable cloud mining (or rather, managed mining shall we say) service was Hydrominer. Note: I'm not promoting it and it's a dead project as far as I can tell.

An actual indie miner in central europe (Austria), using cheap hydropower, came out with a rather interesting prospectus, and were the first to my knowledge to actually attempt fair and transparent reporting, distributing dividends on actual blocks mined rather than fixed income.

But as they found out, it was really impossible to guarantee investors profit. As I recall, doing it fairly and transparently as hashpower rose faster than they could build new rigs, investors actually lost money.

Managed mining, cloud mining, is either a scam, or not profitable. Not easily, and not predictably enough.
8083  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crypto Film Festival on: March 14, 2021, 08:10:32 PM
Might probably have better luck finding some support with libertarians and anarchists, or cypherpunks at least. Early films on Bitcoin were rather more about the way of life than crypto(currency) itself.

Crypto, in as loose a term as possible, isn't exactly full of people who'd be interested in the more esoteric forms of expression with film. Unless you're talking about those influencer videos that make me grind my teeth, that is.

Once your jury's identified, maybe people would be interested. Tap on people like theseWink
8084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CBM- Central Bank Mining....a cure? on: March 14, 2021, 06:53:18 PM
Given that central banks are among those slowest to adopt new and efficient technology (magnetic tape and paper documentation is still how most banks globally operate), and are guilty of the most inefficient and bloated structures and wasteful practices, I'd be very surprised if they were able to provide the most efficient energy usage were they to go into mining.

So aside from the political reasons why "CBM" won't be a cure -- they have to accept they're not even viable for consideration.
8085  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin all time high on: March 14, 2021, 05:39:05 PM
^ Thought price was going up because of stimulus approved. We saw what happened the last time the US government put money in the hands of people, a lot of cheques went straight to Coinbase. People would have been envious of those who did it at the time, don't see why this latest round of cash won't also go right into Bitcoin, maybe even more this time.

Not to ignore the potential effect of ETFs, it's just that guys like MicroStrategy themselves are admitting that they're aggressively seeking out alternatives to getting more Bitcoin. They're not sitting around for ETFs.
8086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ BitcoinPRBuzz.com's ⚽ Italian Serie A ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 14, 2021, 04:34:06 PM
Thanks Roma. I think I saw someone somewhere talk about Parma stats and all that, but letting in 2 goals every game in a stretch (10 games is it?) and then suddenly killing Roma at home today, screwed me to bad on my bets. Seriously, might as well bet against Juventus tonight the way things are going haha (but not worth it 7/1 I think).
8087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 14, 2021, 01:14:13 PM
@Harko yeah actually not so surprising to see so many 3-0 predictions for Citeh -- 13 of you put in that score! I feel dumb for picking 3-1 and actually bet on a 4-0 exact score so missed out on both. Fair to Fulham, if not for that 13-minute period, they may very well have held on for the draw.

@leea @hilarious you're both doing well early in the past 2/3 rounds now! And hilarious currently looking pretty at 1-1 on the Saints pick. Edit, literally Trossard scores as I typed this!
8088  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io "Blackjack Football Frenzy" @ 21.00 odds [Discussion thread] on: March 14, 2021, 11:44:00 AM
Yeah, at half time and only 2 corners with no cards or goals? I knew it'd be a push. Still a bloody good way to keep ourselves entertained. Whoever came up with this idea, deserves a pint!

I know it was a one-off test, any chance for a Liverpool Black Jack tomorrow? Today Arsenal Spurs look ripe for the picking though;)

Pretty neat idea.

Would be fun to have some sort of option to double down  or make some type of decision before second half?  Possibly lower payout for 21 and make a little profit for 18, more for 19, more for 20.

Just some thoughts.

I think this is an excellent idea, but then it'd probably be hard to implement. Perhaps, a specials market that is only visible to those who took the original 21/1 bet pre-live. That you can take during HT do double any points collected in 2nd half? Agree, this would mean perhaps 75% prize at 21, 50% at 20, 25% at 19.

8089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +54127 units on: March 14, 2021, 10:34:06 AM
City won, but that was expected, took a setpiece and 13 minutes of panic after that to ensure the 3-0 win though, Fulham must have had dreams after beating us.

Saints on my ticket, I know it's a pain without Ings, but they're going to want to snatch this. And Spurs to have a Kane/Son/Bale epicness against Gunners?

100 units at Sportsbet on Saints and Spurs to WIN @9.83. Other odds: 8.98

Units advantage: 85

Running advantage after 258 bets: +16,693 (+85)
All-time cumulative: +54,232
Running units after 256 bets (390W|216L): +7,748 (0)
8090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The history of bitcoin ATMs is much longer than I thought! on: March 14, 2021, 09:31:02 AM
Malaysia, for example actually had 2 ATMs in a trendy area some time in 2012-2013 (imagine) back when most people still didn't even feel comfortable with mobile payments yet. They both fell into disrepair really quickly too ha!

I've been following the Bitcoin ATM space since the start, I really doubt there were any there before 2014 unless it was a temporary thing self-built DIY thing by an enthusiast.

I don't know much about how those things would have worked, I can't remember exactly when it was but my memory says it was probably September of either year, because I'd spoken to a guy representing the company doing it and it was a machine that could sell you all kinds of currency, mostly online game currency that's really big in Southeast Asia, and he said you could also buy Bitcoin. So it wasn't a Bitcoin ATM specifically, though I know it was at some point listed in some ATM radar sites.

About a year after talking to the guy, I was asked to cover some opinion piece about Silk Road (much later after it was closed), and then a time after that a review of the film Dope, which was the last thing I did in that work about Bitcoin. Wish I could retrieve all this but the paper I worked for closed down in 2016.

Mind you, I had not myself used Bitcoin in any way during this time! The main reason was another long story related to e-gold;)
8091  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io "Blackjack Football Frenzy" @ 21.00 odds [Discussion thread] on: March 13, 2021, 07:15:53 PM
I've actually got a bet on City today backing them for a 4-0 win, but this is pretty special, thanks for heading this up! Very close to the game too, really glad I kept an eye on forums;)

So, 4 goals is easy enough, 3 cards maybe but 14 corners, easy peasy =D

Here's my participation.

P.S. Today's game stats so far:
Leeds-Chelsea: 15
Palace-WBA: 9
Everton-Burnley: 14
8092  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: March 13, 2021, 06:23:25 PM
Burnley of all teams scoring more than a goal, and only first half eh?

Quite a lot of gamblers I'm sure, but the fans I'm pretty sure will be licking their lips after this result will be the West Ham fans, again Chelsea have given them some bit of hope to get back into fourth place UCL spot, currently on 48 points and three points behind Chelsea with two games in hand, with the sort of form they have shown of late, I think they'll be heading back to fourth place after playing those two outstanding games.

Everything to play for for a lot, a lot of teams. Can't remember a season quite like this, defending champions losing this many times in a row. Chelski having fearsome firepower and not scoring easily. And the golden boot contenders still sitting outside of Champions League spots!

the draw is a good result for both team, the rivalry between Chelsea and Leeds United continues. Chelsea had some decent opportunity to kill off the game in the first half but were not clinical enough in front of the goal post. Pulisic is becoming a liability, he was making the wrong decisions, holding on to the ball for long, and not being able to create a decent chances

Yeah, there was a reason he didn't end up at Liverpool I guess, along with Havert, Werner. Three bullets dodged? Or simply not the right price and fit and desire? Anyway, plenty of time for Tuchel to squeeze more out of them, no problem.
8093  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The history of bitcoin ATMs is much longer than I thought! on: March 13, 2021, 03:35:33 PM
I have had so many discussions about this, and actually, if you can believe it, most of them took place before I even had my first Bitcoin wallet (I covered some of the news in my locations, and Bitcoin was always sort of a curious topic on the leisure or back pages even at that time).

Malaysia, for example actually had 2 ATMs in a trendy area some time in 2012-2013 (imagine) back when most people still didn't even feel comfortable with mobile payments yet. They both fell into disrepair really quickly too ha!

ATMs, I later learnt, were huge for some North Americans I worked with. They sold everything they earned on it to get cash. This was at late as 2018/19.

I'm actually still waiting for the ones in my area to come back. They were taken down early last year (can't recall anymore when) after apparently new AMLD5 rulings on kyc. Imagine you could actually still buy/sell EUR 5000 per day without ID;) I actually vaguely remember you opening a post about ATMs too last year, that was you on your bike, wasn't it?Wink
8094  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: March 13, 2021, 02:33:57 PM
So who else got screwed by Chelski today? =p First leg of one of my big parlays and already out.

I mean, Leeds aren't exactly a defending team and they did register a decent number of attacks and attempts, but these boys in Blue just can't seem to build on the foundations of a good run of games.

I know, sour grapes from a Reds supporter who still feels hurt from the loss to them ha ha.
8095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ BitcoinPRBuzz.com's ⚽ Spanish La Liga ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 13, 2021, 01:32:03 PM
Sorry to you Barca fans. I bet on you too, in case you also want others to share in the misery (but not that it helps, trust me I know nothing makes me feel better when my team doesn't win).

Does anyone else feel like we should bet against Real Madrid tonight? Just because they might have eyes on Europe? I do. 18/1 is too tempting not to take given the way they've been playing lately. I thought a handicap at least but since I like throwing money;)
8096  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +54127 units on: March 13, 2021, 01:18:48 PM
Fail Haha. Newcastle actually found a way to level the scores at 1-1 late, late on, but the surprise smash and grab did NOT happen.

Another super special from Sportsbet, boosted AND if it hits you get a free 2mbtc free bet, so it's a no-brainer all day, any day. $100 freebets are quite unheard of in this space really.

But here we go: 100 units on City, Roma, Juventus and Inter to WIN @5.50. Other odds: 5.30
Bet ID: 604a60cd212aeb6821ea2994

Units advantage: 20

Running advantage after 257 bets: +16,608 (+20)
All-time cumulative: +54,147
Running units after 256 bets (390W|216L): +7,748 (-100)

Does anyone know is Sportsbet has odds on the Strongman Competition? Very interested to pick something as a random Saturday thing.

2 correct score boosts. So tempting, I think Chelsea can score 3 goals!

--snip --

 Multi Magic here we come!

Can't find anything from search but I don't think I know of any crypto book anywhere with lines there. You can try request a specific bet I'm sure the guys at SB might consider something quickly;)

I could only find Fulham Correct Score boost, but I took it anyway. 4-0 win to City boosted to 16.42 . I know it's a bit stupid, and I hardly bet on City but maybe considering how they actually smacked 5 past Saints?

And Multi Magic, of course. Always. Follow. Steve.
8098  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin all time high on: March 13, 2021, 11:06:32 AM
My guess is there's some resistance at the high -- some profit taking every time it approaches it. Once we see a new high for a sustained period, I think we'll see a new high much higher. Follow all of that?  Wink

It's not resistance, but it's how it's going to move, as we grow exponentially, it might slow down.

Profit talking is when the price reach the top, and then re-investing during dip. And currently, the next big target is $60,000, but it's a whole number so I'm expecting that we will see some correction again after that for a couple of days and then go up again, and then the cycle continues.

Yeah this exponential growth narrative seems to be still relatively accurate if we ignore the percentage gains between each period of ATH. Talking about moving averages, anyway, they are definitely becoming more level but not quite tapering off as you'd expect when growth stops being so aggressive.

Patient profit taking this time around I'd say!
8099  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's your exit price(s) on this bull run? on: March 13, 2021, 09:23:13 AM
Instead of guessing where the top might be you should just wait for a huge dump (40-50% from top) and then use Fibs and sell on the 0.50 or 0.618 fib. If you looked for the past 3 bull market tops, using this method would make you sell pretty close to the top.

So if we go to $100K and we get a nasty correction to $50K, then the fibs will be at $75K and $81K. And I think many people will be looking to get out at these levels. Sure you lose out on selling at $100K but it prevented you from selling too early like at $20K late last year. Or at $49.9K thinking $50K wouldn't break.

Not usually one to agree to with waiting out the top and waiting instead for the huge correction that should happen after ATH. Only thing I would say that if we continue to creep up like this, setting new floors every level before setting off again, then I'm not certain there will be enough overheating to create with a massive 50% dump as before.

Interesting nevertheless to see if that is still possible after six figures.
8100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 13, 2021, 08:10:53 AM
Yeah, that was a blatant penalty but it's another one of those situations where if the player had gone down and stayed down it likely would have been given and that's why players get rewarded for diving because if you stay up it's never given. VAR should have given that on review though and I'm not sure why they didn't. The Southampton one didn't look like a penalty to me at all. It looks like he just threw himself to the ground and because there was apparently minimal contact of the City player having his hand on their shoulder a penalty is given. All this stuff does is encourage diving.

This is what I hate the most (well, at least among the things I hate the most) in football. That you seldom do right by these fouls to players that just get up and dust themselves off -- but those who fall and exaggerate everything get the decisions. How does this not reward simulation, yeah? Yet another decison-making nonsense, review, no review. The ongoing circus that is VAR.

@Joca97:  Nice on you to get  3 points,  I went for a slim Villa win (2-1) and bet on a Newcastle win.  Should have known better.
