821  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach all-time-high before halving. - BitQuant on: September 16, 2023, 10:04:30 AM
If this happens, then this is the first time that we will see a new all time high before halving, and with that, I will say that I will take their statement with a grain of salt. History tells us that a massive bull run always happen after the block halving, regardless of what is the status or the situation of the global financial markets.

And just like those who predicted that there will be 2 big bull run after it has ended in 2021, which didn't happen.

With that, I doubt that BitQuant statement or their predictions on Bitcoin reaching all time high before halving, in my opinion.
822  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it too late to seek a new beginning? on: September 15, 2023, 02:01:14 PM
Do your due diligence to explore more the forum and learned from them and when you think you’ve gained sufficient amount of knowledge, and you’re ready to take some risk, then you can start buying bitcoin even at a small amount. Choose your own crypto wallet that will safely store your bitcoin. I suggest go for a cold storage if you sim to hold longer of your coins without intending to sell at a relatively short period of time. Through DCA, you can increase the volume of your bitcoin which you intend to sell only if their prices have reach an all time high.

Yes, at least in my case, that's what I did, I really explore this community although I have an idea already of what bitcoin is, but still I'm willing to learn from my seniors and also give what I understand, so it's a give and take relationship here.

As far as buying bitcoin, it's not too late for everyone, we can still start today and I think this is still the best time because of we are still in the bear market and the price is still very cheap. We just have to do like DCA if we don't have a big budget and just be mentally tough and do it religiously, week after week.
823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - November on: September 15, 2023, 01:43:17 PM
I am also positive that Inoue might stay for some time and maybe will accept some challengers once he holds all the belts, more on the moneymaking side.

Though still early to assume and we never know if things will go according to how most of the fans seen the possible
outcome of this upcoming possible fight between Inoue and Tapales.

It's not only about making money but also about enhancing his skills. If we were solely discussing money, he could move up in weight again and take a gamble by fighting the champion, which I'm sure would bring in a lot of money for him, especially if the fight were held in the USA. So let's see if his plan doesn't change once he acquires all the belts. Staying for long doesn't make sense when it's evident how he dominates the champions, and it looks like a big mismatch.

I guess his Japanese manager is really conservative as they don't want to go to US to fight and would rather stay in Japan. So it could be bad for him (not been exposed to US fans), or good as well, (they are in their comfort zone).

So we can't really blame Inoue, but as far as he is staying, maybe just 1 or 2 fights, and I think he will have to go to 126 lbs or vacant some of the belts at 122 lbs if he wanted to remain there. He can't defend all 4 belts in a given calendar year.
824  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Faruk Fatih Özer, founder of Thodex found guilty sentenced to 11,196 years on: September 15, 2023, 12:45:19 PM
My heart goes out to the parents of these siblings. It is assumed that they have lost three children because they will die in jail. I see this sentence as harsh and inhuman.  I am not supporting criminal activities or defending them because what they did is inhuman and lives were impacted negatively due to this fraud. But how many politicians have been sentenced to this long jail term? Politicians who steal massively from the people receive lighter punishments. In my country, they are even given more appointments because they have the right political connections.

I suspect that the main reason for this long jail term was because he fled to Albanian after the collapse of Thodex. If he had handed himself the police after the fall of his crypto form, he would have had a locus standing to make his claim that Thodex was not a scam.
I understand where you're coming from and my heart goes to the parent, it's not easy to have 3 children locked up for life. Lets not be in a hurry to forget that some of the victims of the scam were also breadwinners of their families, some must have had their life savings or part of it on the exchange. Some victims probably would have fallen in depression, heart attack, stroke or even died. I don't know if the government wants to make an example of him but from a quick search on the Internet, I got to know that Turkey has been dishing out extraordinary sentences since the abolition of death penalty in 2004.

There's always 2 side of the stories here, sure he might be portray as a good son to his mother. But we should not forget how brutal his crime his, I mean they even doesn't know who their victims were, they could be bread winners or just regular and average joe like the rest of us who trade on exchanges that we though that we can trust and that they would exit scam and bring our money with them. But this is what they have done, the verdict has been issued already, of course in legal, they can do whatever they want to have a second chance, but I guess the verdict will be final.
825  Economy / Speculation / Re: Michael Saylor predicts Bitcoin can go to $5 million? on: September 15, 2023, 12:28:04 PM
Since there is no set date for when bitcoin will hit $5 million, I believe I can agree with Michael's prediction that it will happen eventually. Time and patience are what it will need, nothing more.

Even though I think $5 million is attainable in years to come, it will seem strange for anyone to expect a price of $500k or more right now and not to consider a price above $1 million. Looking at the price of bitcoin right now, just a million-dollar price is far too far away for bitcoin to ever achieve such a price.

It's just a question of when we are going to hit that magical price.

And because as bitcoin become scarce in the future and there is a huge demand for it, obviously, we will see $100k next (maybe this bull run cycle), and then $1 million and higher to the point of getting into the $5 million range. So just a couple of block halving and we will be there for sure.
826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Stevenson vs De Los Santos - Nov 16 on: September 14, 2023, 10:03:30 PM
Looking at how De Los Santos moves, I believe Stevenson can score an easy knockdown against De Los Santos.  De Los Santos is left very open every time he throws his punches.  See the videos, his hands are too far for defense when he throws power punches.  I think this kind of defense will be easily exploited by Stevenson so I believe that Stevenson will win this fight via knockout.

Odds for sure will favor Shakur on this match. So you can also look for other money lines here once they are out.

I think ML will give us a not so very attractive odds.

By winning method, over/under and other betting lines. But it seems Shakur will win via knockout here.

I do like the over/under though, not sure what will be the initial though, perhaps it will be -/+ 10.5 rounds?

As he has no loss yet, I don't think de los santos will win via upset. So maybe, this match is indeed just another tune-up fight for Shakur.
Shakur also has high KO win percentage, so high probability that he will finish the match early.

Yes and it's a easy route for Shakur to win another belt at 135 lbs. Not sure though if Haney will vacant it as he will have a fight at 140 lbs and then still go down and back to 135 lbs are a regular champion and then him and Shakur could meet.
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mainstream coins or altcoins? on: September 14, 2023, 06:56:52 PM
Perhaps I've always been a lone ranger, which sometimes makes me feel lonely. I'd like to connect with cryptocurrency investors from around the world and share our insights and experiences.

Well if you have followed certain coins then maybe they have their official telegram groups or maybe you have to found it yourself to connect to this investors. But this is the beauty though of crypto as you can go lone wolf and be fine with it?

So I don't understand why you feel lonely? perhaps it could be that you lost some money already?

Regardless though, just do your own research and maybe it's best if you stick with altcoins that is in the top 10.
828  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is not going to $12k. on: September 14, 2023, 02:05:54 PM
That can happen, as long as there is a deep reason. The kind of negative news about Bitcoin or cryptocurrency It is possible that the price will gradually decrease. Or if the dollar continues to rise against bitcoin. But in reality this is not possible for the value of the dollar to continue to rise because that has never happened before until now. So, that means that even if the value of Bitcoin goes down now, it will recover immediately in a few days or weeks.

I don't think that negative publicity will bring bitcoin to $12k. It has something to do with like FTX collapse that will pressure a lot of investors to sell because they don't like what they are seeing at that time.

But it is just some negative news, then I don't see it pulling the price massively that it will move to $12k. The last lowest low is $15,500, and it was due to FTX as I have said. But so far we can only hope that there will be no black swan events similar to that.
829  Economy / Economics / Re: Human Capital, An Intangible Asset for a Company's success. on: September 14, 2023, 01:39:41 PM
In the age of Digital AI this term human capital will become much more well known in the future. And so will Bitcoin Capital  Cool

Hopefully, it's not going to happen in the future though. Because if it did, then we might be in the era wherein AI will be totally replaced the human capital and that is a scary thought.

But as far as human assets goes, yeah, CEO's and companies have known this for years already, that a company success depends on it's employee and that's why they have given them perks and others intangibles that to stay with them and make the company grow.
830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: September 12, 2023, 02:42:46 PM
^^ Perhaps they think that even with a B-grade player, then can still win the gold medal. But it's totally different era, no offense to the players that they have sent, but obviously it was no match to teams like Germany and Serbia who went into the finals.

Even the second best Canada with like 6-7 NBA players didn't make it to the finals. And I think Olympics is the end of it all, so it's another wake up call for the United States to send their best players.
831  Economy / Gambling / Re: Rollbit - be aware, i was lucky on: September 12, 2023, 07:28:53 AM
I think they offered you the money, thinking that you are a high roller and a good target for making a good profit. I also assume that you used a similar tactic with your Stake account and that you reached Diamond as a result of that.... and not because you played Slots the whole day.  Grin Grin Grin

In any way, well done .... most people would say that they deserved it.. for trying to pinch highrollers from other casinos. I do not blame them, because the competition for the gambling whales are tough.  Wink

I would agree that competition is really tough across all gambling platforms, even in landbased casinos, whales are given special privilege because if he jumps in to join and move to their competition, it's done for them. I personally know a big whale here in my country that's why I can attest to the influence of this big whales and high rollers.

Not sure though as per OP how did one casino share or get his information though that's why he was offered the money as you described because in the other casinos that he mentioned perhaps he as a Diamond member already?
832  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Shakur Stevenson vs Frank Martin - tentative date 11/16 or 12/9 on: September 10, 2023, 02:03:45 AM
And I read that this is for the interim WBC title at 135 lbs? What gives? I mean they still have their regular champion in Haney so why the hell WBC have to put up another interim belt on the line? It doesn't make sense. All they have to do is wait for the result of this fight and whoever it is, then fight their regular champion, be the mandatory fighter for the belt held by Haney?

I guess corrupt WBC will have to give way again to Top Rank to have another champion in the line for them. In any case, this is a good fight as I have said before, but Shakur for me has the better skills and will win the fight.

The confusion is caused by the ridiculous amount of belts that the WBC hands out. They have the regular champion, franchise champion, champion in recess, and interim championship. The media is reporting that Shakur vs. Martin is for the interim belt but the WBC website states that it's for the vacant title which means that Haney is no longer champion. Shakur is already the mandatory but Haney has decided to move up in weight and fight Prograis instead. The other sanctioning bodies should follow suit and allow the top challengers to fight for their titles instead of allowing Haney to hold the belts hostage in a division he is no longer competing in.

Just like in the case of Charlo if I'm not mistaken, either of the brother has held hostage the belt that they hold one time or another. Like Jermell, who is going to fight Canelo next. He is supposed to fight Tszyu for the belt but then they postponed it because of his supposedly hand injuries.

Now, he is fighting Canelo, so they should have stripped him of the belt and let Tsyzu become their regular champion. As for this fight, yes, this should be for the vacant because it's obvious that the champion is campaigning to a higher division already.
833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ambivalent attitude to gambling on: September 10, 2023, 01:48:48 AM
Gambling has been a widespread form of entertainment for centuries. I Googled how many people gamble and on the first site they write that about 1.6 billion people around the world gamble. And this is almost 20% of the world's population. Gitnux also writes that at the same time 4.2 billion play at least once a year.

I believe this number is much higher...
There are several countries in which gambling is prohibited, but people certainly don't stop gambling so they end up hiding their addictions and these numbers are not even counted.
In my country, for example, gambling is prohibited, but it is "normal" to see clandestine gambling taking place in various communities (in the same way as drugs are consumed), or in some fake establishments in which the police discovered that there were several poachers. nickels hidden inside.
I also don't know if it is included in these numbers, but I believe that lottery games should also be counted.

Anyway... the prohibition of gambling is a bad way to combat it. The best thing is to legalize it, charge a reasonable fee and inspect the establishments with part of the tax collected.

Yes, but probably around that ball park number, meaning gambling is really huge around the world, everyone is into it specially it is very accessible now, as pointed out by the OP in the first page.

It could be dangerous though, I mean everyone has a cellphone and others do have like 2 or 3 to boot. So they can just sit down anywhere even in a restaurant while waiting for their food to be served, play and gamble and that is scary. So for sure those numbers might increased in the next 10 years or so, online and offline gambling are really on the rise.
834  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is bitcoin moving now? on: September 09, 2023, 04:24:23 AM
-snip-

I don't remember exactly September or October and the Fed didn't confirm it would raise interest rates, but they said they could continue to raise interest rates because the inflation situation is not really under control. Some recent news also shows that the Fed will not hesitate to continue raising interest rates 1 or 2 times before stopping raising interest rates. If that happens, it will really put pressure on the market and it will be even more difficult for us to recover before the end of the year.

The price has been trading above $26k but I don't consider this a good sign as without any positive news to sustain then a drop will happen at any moment. We need more positive news or bigger movements to be considered positive for bitcoin.
The bitcoin price didn't last longer above $26k, it has dipped to around $25.8k at the moment. I still see a big challenge for bitcoin to maintain its value, there seems to be a lot of selling pressure making it difficult for the price to recover without major support. People seem to tend to pay attention to negative news that impacts prices, but they react very little to positive news. This indicates that the index of people's fear of investing in bitcoin is still high.

Yes, surprised that it didn't last that $26k price range as it dip down to $25,800. And for sure there are speculators who have sold and made instant profit and so volatility is their friend on that kind of situation.

Nevertheless, same here, I never pay attention to negative things, also I will research what's really going on specially if the price goes down. But I will not be ever be affected even if the impact is huge. Just a matter of time before the market will bounce back and it has been proven many times already.
835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: September 09, 2023, 03:59:12 AM
With regards to the potential Canelo vs. Bud next year, it sounds crazy but really doable if Canelo approves it. If I were Canelo, I would take it since it is the biggest fight in boxing right now. He will be bashed a lot though if he wins and it could be worse if he loses to someone who moves up two divisions. I like Bud to win but I believe Canelo will be too much and destroy him.
If I'm not mistaken, Canelo already welcomed the idea where he could face Crawford next considering that he will win in his upcoming fight against Charlo. It's just a matter of time though, what we need to know now is if Crawford is still that powerful and fast at 154 against Spence before he proceeds towards 168. I know that he's big and so 154 or 168 will be okay for him but that alone can't make him win.
All I heard and read before was that Canelo seemed interested but at 168. But after Crawford changed his tune and became interested in making that ambitious historic feat, Canelo is showing some hints that he is uninterested because he wouldn't get any credit if he wins. But I felt like Canelo is just trying to make an impression to the public that he is not the one pushing this mega fight. Canelo will propose this fight if Bud wins his rematch with Spence. I believe Crawford no matter how good he is in his current division, will be at a whole new level at 168. Financially, he is high-reward and low-risk fight for Canelo at 168. And Crawford at 36 with lesser reflexes, Canelo is not a welterweight and might just eat his punches just to land his own big punishing shots.
It's all part of Canelo's plan including that one where he seemed not interested because there's no benefit for him if he will fight Crawford but in reality, it's the opposite thing because he just wanted to make the people more hungry and thirsty so that their fight will be a headline for sure. And while that statement is true, Canelo should know his position mainly now that boxers in this industry are already looking at him down as he was showing some signs of weakness lately.

And if I were Canelo and knows personally that there is nothing goin on aside from getting older in the daily basis, then I'd say that I'll be happy to accept their invitation if they are really that interested because either way, it's a win-win situation and a huge paycheck for me is waiting, and lastly, the last laugh will always belong to me.

I agree with that. Canelo surely knows how to make people attracted even if the fight is still an idea, the fact that it's not yet declared, he will do something to make the people interested towards it so that they can generate as much money as possible and if they can build enough hype then that is the time where they will make it into a reality.

Next step is to market the fight but since we're talking about a future Canelo vs Crawford fight. I don't think that they really needed to market it because people will surely look forward in seeing that fight as there is also a chance that a history will happen again. Well, considering that Crawford will win.

Canelo is the cash cow of boxing still, only boxer that kind of rival him as far as bringing fans to their seat is Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis. And that's why we've the two fought, it was the biggest fight of this year.

But for sure, if Canelo vs. Crawford pushes for next year, there will be a lot of maybe casual fans that are interested and intrigue by the match and it could produce millions of revenue in the PPV alone. So yeah, the Canelo hype is still here although his last fight by standards against Ryder is way below what is expected.
836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How was your first Bitcoin experience? on: September 09, 2023, 03:47:50 AM
Heard about bitcoin way before, as I do some freelance work at Odesk and so I'm seen several forums and this is one of them. But one memorable experience back then specially around the time I joined this community is a bitcoin doubler.

So I thought why not? gonna be easy to make your bitcoin grow in short amount of time. But it's good that I only invested small amount that time because later it was just a scam and it was a lessons for me in the beginning. And it's good that it happen to be when I was just starting, because after that I never invested on too good to be true offer.
837  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will you sell...next bull run? on: September 08, 2023, 05:30:58 AM
20k in 2017 equating to a potential 200k in the next few years I suppose could make sense but I'd rather guess BTC slows down in its trajectory or curve on the graph.  The figures achieved for an ATH will still be impressive but I wouldnt draw a straight line more of a cannon ball curve with less height gained over time.   We cannot easily estimate due to the Dollar itself altering greatly in the ten years after 2017 but suffice to say I do not believe in any hard dollar scenario.   Interest costs at elevated levels will consume the entire fiscal budget, its very likely repayment occurs via inflation and value losses to the population mostly common working family.

But we never thought that $20k in 2017 is possible, and that's why we look at $100k in 2021, but it didn't happen. So I don't think it might slow down in the future, on the contrary it could really move to even $1 million in the future.

Maybe a couple of halvings, or when all bitcoin has been mined, meaning 99% of it, the price could really go up in the next year or so. But currently we might be look at 6 digits in 2024-2025.
838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Visa Takes on Crypto with Solana and USDC on: September 08, 2023, 04:12:36 AM
Visa is making big moves in the crypto world. They're teaming up with Solana to expand their stablecoin settlements. Basically, they're using USDC for transactions. This move helps Visa speed up global payments, and it's all part of their ongoing commitment to the evolving crypto scene. Visa's foray into stablecoin settlements on Solana signifies a major milestone in crypto adoption by traditional financial giants. I just hope that Solana can finally get a hold of their scalability and security issues!

Source: https://coinmarketcap.com/alexandria/article/visa-expands-usdc-stablecoin-settlements-using-solana

I thought though that they are in the crypto world already when they realized that they will have a big profit and take a big chunk out of the pie, billions upon of billions.

The thing is that they are going on Solana, which doesn't have a good record and of course there are issues about hacks and others that can put Visa on a compromise position in the future. So let's see how long this partnership will go though.
839  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: September 08, 2023, 03:12:38 AM
It will definately be to give AD some breathing room along with the rest of the team.  The bench was short for them and showed during stretches last year when guys went down.  With Bron and AD on the wrong side of their careers they need depth to compete long term.  Wood at that price was a good play.

More likely he will be given more minutes if he gives the right play and contributes positively to the team whenever they need him to give the star players some rest. nevertheless, this is a tough decision for the Lakers because it's obvious that lots of available players they can acquire this year but they choose him instead to take that role.

If he can bring back the performance that once he had when he was still with the Houston Rockets, then maybe Christian Wood will be given more time to play. Or maybe he will be their Center and then AD playing the PF, so they can play at the same time, it will be good as well.

Or just to give AD some minutes in the bench and rest, while Wood do his thing. So there's a lot of upside on the Lakers side to get him. And as someone has said, it's a total steal for Los Angeles as CW still has a lot of potential, he is still very young.
840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Smart contracts on Bitcoin...Are they worth it? on: September 08, 2023, 02:57:55 AM
To be clear Bitcoin has had smart contracts from day one. In fact Satoshi introduced this way of using Smart Contracts when he created Bitcoin then others expanded it in their altcoins.

These side-chains are introducing Turing complete smart contracts.
Also RSK is not new, if I'm not mistaken it used to be an altcoin back in 2013 and then they took the idea and turned it into the concept RootStock RSK in 2014-2015 and the chain launched in 2018. None of it has anything to do with Taproot though.

I sure hope developers don't integrate smart contracts into the main blockchain, or it will be complete disaster for Bitcoin. Consider how ETH is having trouble with the ultra-high fees, flaws/vulnerabilities from smart contracts, and slow processing times. I believe BTC should only be used for financial applications (sending/receiving payments) for its own good. Ultimately, the community will decide the best path forward for the project. As long as decentralization/censorship-resistance is preserved, there should be nothing to worry about. Just my opinion Smiley

I think this might be what the majority here doesn't want to happen, you can't imagine bitcoin being integrate smart contracts as it might lose everything it got since the beginning and this is what we are against, even the word Smart Contracts + Bitcoin will not go in the same sentence,  Grin

But for now, maybe bitcoin enthusiast are going 50/50, and see how it will goes. It if affected the main chain by any chance, then all the blame are going to be put on this smart contracts and whatnot, just saying.
