822  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If alcohol was illegal on: October 06, 2014, 11:13:48 AM
Alcohol kills more than all illegal drugs combined so I doubt it would be legalized nowadays, probably be ranked alongside crystal meth.

Tobacco would also likely be illegal considering how bad and addictive it is.
823  Other / Politics & Society / 84% of Brits think the war on drugs has failed on: October 05, 2014, 04:03:48 PM
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/oct/05/war-on-drugs-failed-decriminalise-illegal-use

An increasing proportion of Britons favours a more liberal approach to drugs and would support decriminalisation strategies, according to a comprehensive survey commissioned by the Observer.

An overwhelming majority also believes that the so-called "war on drugs" is futile, with 84% saying that the decades-long campaign by law enforcement agencies against the global narcotics trade can never be won.

The poll provides welcome reading for those campaigning for illegal drugs to be decriminalised, with 27% saying that Britain's drug laws are not liberal enough. A previous Observer survey into the nation's drug-taking habits, in 2008, recorded a figure of 18%, suggesting a society that is steadily moving towards greater tolerance of drug use.

The proportion of Britons who believe certain drugs should be decriminalised has risen from 27% to 39% since 2008.

More than half (52%) support the introduction of initiatives like that recently pioneered by two US states, Colorado and Washington. Colorado's decision to legalise the sale of recreational marijuana has been hailed a success by some, with reductions of crime reported in the state capital of Denver and concerns about social breakdown yet to be borne out.

In the UK, however, there appears to be little appetite among Tories for a fresh look at drugs policy despite David Cameron, as a young MP, endorsing more lenient penalties for ecstasy possession and formerly sitting on a parliamentary committee that called for an international debate on the legalisation of drugs. The Liberal Democrats are currently examining the decriminalisation of all drugs for personal use and allowing cannabis to be sold on the open market. This week the party will discuss a policy paper advocating such options at its annual conference.

Prohibition has failed to curb the popularity of narcotics, as the number of Britons who have taken drugs continues to increase. Almost a third of the adult population – up from 27% in 2008 to 31% now – say they have taken an illegal substance – about 15 million people. While men and women are equally likely to have taken drugs, those aged 35-44 are the most likely to have used narcotics, with almost half this age group having taken them.

Across all age ranges, around three million people continue to take drugs, half of whom are aged 16-34.

If drugs were decriminalised, however, the proportion of Britons who have never previously tried drugs but who would consider doing so in the future would increase fourfold to 16%, offering some proof to hardliners that drug laws act as a deterrent.

The effect would be most pronounced among young people. Among 16- to 24-year-olds, 30% of those who have never taken drugs say they would consider doing so if substances were decriminalised.

The recession appears to have a had an impact on drug consumption. In the 2008 poll, conducted towards the beginning of the global economic slump, 35% of users were more likely to use drugs in a pub/club/bar environment. This has now fallen to 16%, possibly an indication of more straitened circumstances. Users spend an average of £74.36 on drugs each month, compared with the £54.58 an average drinker spends on alcohol a month or the £76.73 a smoker spends on tobacco.

Concerns that legal highs would create an explosion in drug use have yet to appear, with only one in 10 Britons saying they had tried them. Among those aged 25-34 the proportion to have tried legal highs almost doubles to 19%.
824  Other / Off-topic / Re: Seeing the Future! In Dreams? on: October 05, 2014, 10:18:46 AM
So I just wanted to see how many people have this experience? Have you guys ever seen future in your dreams? I have seen 3 dreams which came true. Same things were happening in real life which i saw in my dreams and on one occasion I was able to alter the outcome Cheesy. These 3 experiences have made me think that our brain has the capability to see in the future but we don't understand that yet. What do you think about this?

I've read somewhere that the Aborigine believe dreams are a collection of your past, present and future. Could explain things like deja vu...still lots of things we don't understand about the mind.

825  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: October 05, 2014, 09:28:57 AM
How are you guys going to deal with scammers on both sides? Cryptothrift has escrow, so the scammers just convince people to go outside it.

Escrow is not scam-proof.

Scammers have a lot of imagination.

Do you know any marketplace that is scammer proof? Because I don’t.
Should we stop doing business because scammers are unfortunately around everything that has value?

No market place is 100% scam proof. However some marketplaces are "scam resistant" and some are "scam friendly". You should do more business in the "scam resistant" marketplaces whenever possible and avoid the "scam friendly" marketplaces unless absolutely necessary. I would personally consider open brazzar to be scam friendly

Actually yes, that's why you should treat it as what it is: beta. There is no reason why it can't be "scam resistant" with the proper tools in place.
I think you really need to be more centralized then open brazaar in order to be scam resistant. Look at eBay for example, as much as I dislike them and as much as they charge for selling on their site, they have a very small number of scams that succeed as a percentage of total sales; compare that to a more decentralized marketplace like the digital goods forum here, which is very decentralized and obvious scams are not moderated, many scams get weeded out by the community but more people do get scammed (just look at all the scam accusations). The fact that open brazaar is decentralized makes it much easier to manipulate

I've seen lots of scams on ebay, not forgetting all the chargebacks I've had to deal with (lost over $1000 from reversals). Centralization hasn't made the site more scam resistant by any means.

Never had that problem with either Bitmit or Cryptothrift  Wink

Yeah I really doubt he'd destroy his trust over just $70 (considering he's held over 50btc on one escrow), maybe give the dude a few days before getting the pitchforks out Wink

828  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can someone teach me? on: October 03, 2014, 11:01:39 AM
I've been burned several times day-trading, also made quite a lot of btc but most of that was down to luck and the right timing. Managed to turn $200 into $8000 just by investing in DRK when it was selling for 200 satoshis.
829  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do people think fat asses are attractive? on: October 03, 2014, 10:23:29 AM
I like curves but Kim's ass just doesn't look right, swear she's had some surgery on it (can you even have ass surgery lol).

Brazilian women seem to have the nicest bodies: wide hips, fat asses (not huge tho) and flat stomachs.

i dont see any pics

Hello notserp, you really don't see any pictures? I used lunapic.com to upload pictures from my computer, then copied image location and pasted in my thread and It works fine for me, I see all my pictures that I uploaded on my thread.

Anyone else can't see pictures?

Yeah I can see the photos fine, sometimes the forum's image proxy doesn't allow your images (think this was due to a forum hack a while ago). Best bet is to use well known image hosts like imgur.
831  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which Big Bang Theory character would you fuck? on: October 03, 2014, 09:32:24 AM

Cmon Gleb, could have at least put some photos up for us to drool over. Don't even know what any of these hoes look like...
832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steve Jobs was Satoshi. on: October 03, 2014, 09:23:02 AM
it's always the man you least expect. so then it's either Steve Jobs or Jesus Christ.   What do you think?

credibility: I read bill gates' interview backwards and that's what I got out of it..

Hell no, Jobs would have called it something pretentious like iCoin Smiley Doubt we'll ever find out who Satoshi is/are, just the way it is.

834  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama on ISIS: 'We Don't Have a Strategy Yet' on: September 29, 2014, 12:32:14 PM
It's a lot harder for wannabee terrorists to even enter the US since 911, let alone carry out coordinated attacks. Personally I think the likelihood of another big terrorist attack against the West has been blown completely out of proportion.

Don't make me laugh. The American border control is extremely ineffective. Check this:

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Texas/2014/09/8/OKeefe-Brings-Attention-To-Porous-Open-US-Northern-Border
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2747965/I-ve-never-seen-Border-Patrol-Filmmaker-shows-Ebola-infected-ISIS-terrorist-sneak-Lake-Erie-Canada-Cleveland-RICIN-Rock-Roll-Hall-Fame.html

James O'Keefe has shown that anyone can cross the American border. The ISIS terrorists are no exception. If the technologically inferior Mexican drug cartels can move their men across the border with ease, what prevents the ISIS from sending its men across the American border?

Sure you can't prevent everyone from sneaking in through the border unless the US builds some massive apartheid wall like Israel. My point is that it's extremely unlikely another 911 could be carried out by groups like ISIS. Bombing them like the West is currently doing will only create more terrorists in the future.
835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you interested in Bitcoin because of the concept or to get rich? on: September 29, 2014, 11:59:25 AM
More the concept than getting rich, though I wouldn't complain if I manage to make a few extra satoshis Smiley

People who are just holding btc to cash out at a later date will feel the most pain financially. Fiat is dead.

Maybe they don't want to just cash out? I'd like to hold my coins not to cash out to fiat but so I can actually buy things with it or pay my bills in it etc. I'd really like to be able to just live off btc as opposed to fiat.

That's pretty much what I hope for in the future, a fiat free life would be immense but I we've got a long way to go yet before that day comes. Soon as you can pay for food:utilities:insurance etc in btc, I'll be saying buh byeee to fiat for good.
836  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best way to build trust on: September 29, 2014, 11:37:04 AM
Takes years to build up trust, even then you could be playing the long con (not saying you are) eg. build up trust to the point where you're escrowing large amounts of btc then steal the funds.

thanks
838  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why do you people sell at these price? on: September 29, 2014, 11:22:41 AM
It's painful selling at this low price but I have to sell most of the btc I earn as I'm currently unemployed. If I had a job with no debts I wouldn't sell a single satoshi Smiley
