821  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-07]The Main Reasons for Bitcoin Price to Fall before Surpassing $3,000 on: June 07, 2017, 04:38:53 PM
It has something to do with people panic selling with one way or another. If only people could for a longer time and stop thinking about making small and fast profits, we could've reached 300$ easy. Whoever is looking to bitcoin more as an investment than a currency, should understand that It's meant to be for the long term.
822  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: June 07, 2017, 07:13:57 AM
Is the information in the first post still accurate?

It is accurate, the activity system didn't see any modifications during the last years as far as I know. If they did change it at some point, they would've edit the post or make a new one instead.
823  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I understand wallets correctly? on: June 06, 2017, 04:45:17 PM
You are pretty much correct in almost everything you said. An online wallet however doesn't necessarily store your private keys, an exchange does though. If we take Blockchain.info wallet for example, the wallet.dat is indeed on their physical servers however the password that encrypts these wallets is not stored in their database which means you are the only one who can decrypt it, Its still unsafe to use them though, as online wallets are usually a target for hacking and anyone with access to the wallet file could try and brute force it.

Desktop wallets doesn't necessarily download the blockchain file. We have SPV wallets today like Electrum that doesn't need to download anything in order to work. Having a backup of wallet.dat is necessary in some wallets and not in others, some wallets use BIP39 or BIP44. In that case, you will need to take the backup of the passphrase given to you by the wallet (12 words in electrum's case -- taking the wallet.dat backup + password that encrypts it works too)

We also have some wallets that support multiple currencies such as Exodus.io, Jaxx.io and a few others, downloading the blockchain is not necessary in these cases.
824  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ADVCASH, deposit with credit card problem on: June 06, 2017, 04:27:32 PM
Have you tried to contact them from their email or calling the customer hotline? you will get a faster answer that way. I doubt everyone is facing your issue though, otherwise they would've announced something on the news section on their site or twitter account.
825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: June 06, 2017, 05:48:29 AM
The monthly report says that everyone got beta access (about 700 users) while they I'm pretty sure I've seen statements on the past that the final release will be made only when everyone get beta access and that's about 6000 users, which is the number of the investors, what I'm missing here?
826  Economy / Services / Re: [Hiring] Create/Find Counter Strike 1.6 Server for me on: June 04, 2017, 01:35:59 PM
As none of the user above responded, I'm still looking for someone who could do this, changing between different Linux distribution is not going to be an issue as Vultr allow doing so without paying any extra money. I prefer an expert who actually know how to setup the counter strike server.
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CVC] CIVIC Tokensale :: 21 June on: June 04, 2017, 12:24:39 PM
Simple response to your question - it will be a lot cheaper than to use normal providers. More details in the summary whitepaper:
https://tokensale.civic.com/static/images/landing/CivicWhitepaperSummary.pdf

We will release full whitepaper soon and post the link here as well.

Now, I'm a bit lost. I understand that ICO price should logically be the cheaper price but that still doesn't explain why the price will increase overtime, why would someone buy it? I mean paying for verifying your identity and getting paid for it won't make much sense in that case, people would prefer use KYC instead.
828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: June 04, 2017, 11:36:17 AM
NDA is still active as far as I know so we should expect to see ICONOMI in more exchanges, more precisely, when the platform is launched. Cofound.it ICO will be soon, anyone knows when It's going to open for the investors of ICONOMI? I heard I's going to be before the real opening to give us advantage.
829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / OpenBazaar Raises $200k in New Funding on: June 03, 2017, 06:59:49 PM
OB1, the startup behind the bitcoin-powered decentralized marketplace OpenBazaar, has raised $200,000 in new funding from investment firm Digital Currency Group. Additional details can be found on CoinDesk's article.
OpenBazaar Chief executive also said that the decentralized marketplace knew a steady growth since the last year, I find this hard to believe because I know no one who use the platform. Ironically, the bitcoin community seem to have something against the decentralized projects.
830  Economy / Exchanges / Re: HIGH BTC WITHDRAWAL CHARGES on: June 03, 2017, 06:19:56 PM
You didn't tell us the exchange that you are using but in general, I believe It's very normal. Bitcoin transactions are currently expensive with all the unconfirmed transaction we currently have, add to that, the fees that the exchanges take for their services.
831  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Would Using a VPN Allow People to Access BTC Services Outside Their Country? on: June 03, 2017, 08:52:42 AM
Using a VPN in most cases is useless as Its pretty known that the bitcoin community cares about It privacy so checking If a user is eligible for using a service based on the IP only doesn't make sense. The services that accepts credit or debit cards asks for ID verification so unless you are a citizen on that country, you can't do much.
832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where to buy Coins not listed on exchange yet, or tokens of recent ICOs ? on: June 03, 2017, 08:14:18 AM
Logically, you can't I believe because most of the time, as soon as the team start distributing the tokens after the ICO, they get listed on exchanges. If they don't get listed, It only means that the project is not that good and you shouldn't really consider investing.
833  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: I can transfer Bitcoin ? on: June 02, 2017, 04:42:15 PM
After trying for the last time to send from Zebpay to your YoBit.net account and you failed, have you tried to do the same thing and send to Blockchain.info as well? A transaction can't simply fail, what is the error message they gave you? Note that Zepbay is not a wallet, but an exchange (just like YoBit) so they control your private keys, If they don't want to allow you to withdraw your funds, you can't withdraw them.
834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CVC] CIVIC Tokensale :: 21 June on: June 02, 2017, 03:49:30 PM
I was just reading on your Reddit that you are finalizing the full whitepaper right now, any estimated date for that? because I'm really curious to know more about the CIVIC Token and from where It value comes from? In other words, why would someone buy the token and how the investors will benefit from it beside funding the project.
835  Economy / Economics / Re: From what countries ICOs are perceived as reliable? Is there a rule for that? on: June 02, 2017, 02:12:17 PM
The way I see it is that anyone who judge an ICO/Project from the country of the staff is stupid. You should first read the whitepaper, the team behind the project and their background without giving a damn about the country, how much money they did put on the marketing is also important because scammers are never willing to put money but take it.
836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real life usage of bitcoin on: June 02, 2017, 12:46:26 PM
Bitcoin can literally be used for pretty much anything while you are online, hosting, gaming, VPNs, anything. Using it on local shops for example is another story, waiting for confirmation's could definitely be a problem but the Lightning Network should fix that on the future. We currently have bitcoin ATMs in 57 countries, we have a long way to go.
837  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ATM fees? on: June 01, 2017, 05:53:33 PM
Here in Canada, the price of the bitcoin is approx $3,100 Canadian dollars. However, the ATM gives you a rate of approx $4,100. I deposited $100 and got back $77 worth of BTC. Is this the normal rate?

Its more then normal. Its pretty much up to the people running the ATM and not the company that created it. CoinATMRadar is a very good service I advice you to use, you can check all ATMs in the world, with the fees, limits and everything else.
838  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculating on the effect of UASF on the price of BTC on: June 01, 2017, 04:33:31 PM
The UASF could make the price decrease but Its too soon to say, we need first to see what the services think about it and If they are going to support or not as not everyone made his mind yet. The way I see it is that the value of cryptocurrencies are not set by the marketcap but by the number of merchants, localshop, ATMs etc. It's also just a matter of supply, just like Ripple pumped their supply to gain a few billions in marketcap, It means nothing.
839  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a way to view replies and quotes to your posts? on: June 01, 2017, 02:14:10 PM
Darn, it's hard to readjust to using forums again after being spoiled by the convenience of modern social media sites.

Currently? no, there is no way to do that. Epochtalk (the new forum software) should have the alerts/notification system though, when you tag/mention someone or get quoted etc.

Do you know if there are any plans for Bitcointalk to be upgraded to this new software in the near future?

Well, the Beta.bitcointalk.org is currently functional for sometime now, If I had to guess, I will say It should be released before the end of the year, we didn't see any official announcements from the staff though.
840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ICONOMI - Digital Assets Management Platform on: June 01, 2017, 01:51:18 PM
I can confirm that I have received an invitation for the early access and I didn't invest that much honestly unless the algorithm calculates the number of ICNs I hold then I did participate in their different bounty campaigns. I suggest for everyone to check their emails maybe you have received them as well. We are not that far from the final release.
