It seems like the Chinese are doing it again? Why? Have they not learnt their lesson?

During the last financial crisis, all these companies decided to announce bankruptcy at around the same time. Why?

So even if you keep your own coins secure, there is still a danger of theft performed with violence. You have heard of people who were forced to give up their coins/keys under duress.
Does this mean that multisig is a must?

If a subset of nodes is not 100% in sync with other subnets, would it make double spending easier? A potential scammer can connect to different child nodes in 2 different subnets with tor and broadcast double spends.
Spends from an address should be restricted to only one subnet. I.e addresses are divided into subnets much like how IP addresses are.

A potential solution to the block size debate is the division of the bitcoin network into subnets that feed into a main (backbone) network. Thus the subnets will process only a subset of transactions (e.g. geographically local transactions) and then feed the results into the main network and hence the main blockchain. This would require for the subnets to have their own mini blockchains. In this way the cost of hosting a (child) node would not be increased (unlike a block size increase) and the number of nodes will not be reduced for the whole network.
There would be a need to change the algorithm.
Has this solution been proposed by any of the developers?

Because of the dumping whales, many of us have been very cautious in buying coins. We are scared that another dump will be incoming. I think caution will give way once the price stabilises for several months - even up to a year.

Were there any such heated debates on the details of that protocol in the early days? How did they solve them?

I am a noob in this area.
How many addresses can be generated from a seed using BIP32?

Hello all,
Some question for you Trezor experts:
1, Is 12 words really sufficient as a seed? Or is it really worth going for 18 or 24?
2, Can I add a passphrase to an already generated seed?
3, What is the point of using the passphrase to encrypt the seed if the easier thing to do is wipe the device and not store the seed on it?
1. It's all about seed entropy, the more words, the higher the entropy! 24 words is safer than 12 words, so go for it. 2. I doubt it, because the password alters the seed. 3. I don't know if I understand you correctly. How will you work with the trezor without storing the seed on it? Maybe you want to have a look in the trezor online manual: http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-user/index.htmlThanks a lot. For number 3 I now understand that the seed is used to generate the keys! I didn't know that before I asked the question.

What would Satoshi do?
In regards to the block size and transaction times?
If only he appeared from hiding to give his view.

I think they may need to use 3rd parties to insure transactions. A Visa for Bitcoin?

If true, it's among the biggest news we have ever had.

For serious BTC both are shit. I do not trust anything that the bitcoin core.
For pocket change BTC who cares... its pocket change BTC
You want your BTC paper wallet to one day burn down in a fire? With Trezor at least you can memorise the seed and even use it with an infected PC. Encrypted wallet.dat in an encrypted container on an encrypted usb stick. One at home, one at the bank, one at friends etc. Yes, if the planet explodes im fucked. USB sticks' memory last how many decades? Plus you will need to use a PC/Laptop to send coins. A compromised PC and your coins are gone.
