821  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is US Citizenship is a Curse or a Blessing? on: September 02, 2014, 05:08:42 PM
It just came upon me that US Citizenship is more a curse not a Blessing.
Cons:
US has highest healthcare costs in the 1st world
US has highest gini coefficient in the 1st world
US has worst privacy laws in the 1st world
US spends 687.3 billion on military spending, which doesn't create capital or useless capital(war devices)
Pros:
No Value Added Tax
Significantly lower Income tax
Best Colleges in the world(if your privileged)
California (although I've heard Chile is a great alternative)

Anything else to rant about? Add more!

It depends on what's the other option. I'd prefer being a US citizen over being a citizen of nearly any other country.

Another luddite? Please study economics. Serious economics, Austrian Economics. Start with this: https://mises.org/books/economics_in_one_lesson_hazlitt.pdf
823  Other / Politics & Society / Re: American Health care: $10,169 for a blood test? on: September 02, 2014, 05:04:58 PM
This is the magic of government's interventionism. Everything government touches turns into crap.
824  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is it a bad decision to payoff mortgage early on: September 02, 2014, 05:03:51 PM
I was so eager that I paid off a 4.4% $150k 15y mortgage in a few years. now some people are analyzing and suggesting that i should have run it out.

thoughts?

4.4% is low, but I'd probably had also paid it, so I could forget about it, I don't like owing money to anyone. If you were comfortable with it, you could had invested in the stock market, which produces 5.2% real return (at least for the last 113 years!).
825  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Women earn $0.77 for every $1 men earn. on: September 02, 2014, 04:58:17 PM
That's because they are less productive. As easy as that. You could also compare people that just started working with people that has been working for 30 years. Or people who have studied and people who haven't.
826  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your dream political system on: September 02, 2014, 04:53:42 PM
Anarchocapitalism. Because I'm against violence. All exchanges should be voluntary.

827  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Americans Getting Poorer on: September 02, 2014, 04:50:52 PM
Because enough voters chose to have even more government interventionism.
828  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia is getting ready to bomb the USA :( on: September 02, 2014, 04:46:17 PM

Why would they attack the US? What do they win from that? Don't get paranoid.

Crypto currencies volatility is really sick. I wonder if there are any volatility products to bet on, like the SP500's VIX.
830  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Localbitcoins - Premium Rates (Fair/Unfair) on: September 02, 2014, 04:30:18 PM
Hello,

I have done a few trades in my time and one recent trade I did, let's face it, I did not pay too much attention to it. For what I was paying, I was realistically getting half of what I paid for - I paid $336 USD to get $170 USD back in the form of BTC.

This was ultimately my own fault for not even calculating costs, though, do you think it's really fair overall for users to take advantage of Localbitcoins % rates to make their own percentages for selling their coins?

The dealer I dealt with recently noted he made a loss on buying his coins and used Localbitcoins to cover his loss in the Bitcoins that he had purchased?

I've dealt in my own business before and we never passed our losses on to our consumers, I don't see it fair how they can apply this here and make high profits off these new rates they set themselves.

Again, I understand I made a wrong pre-judgement here of purchasing without paying attention to what I was buying, though do you see it fair or unfair that people can set such ridiculous rates?

As long as it's a voluntary exchange, nothing's wrong with it. It sucks, but it was your fault.
831  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there a way/method to buy bitcoins using paypal? on: September 02, 2014, 04:27:41 PM
Yes, Localbitcoins for example. But they will charge you a big premium because of the charge back risk.
832  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should trading bots be banned? on: September 02, 2014, 04:25:56 PM
On bitcoin exchanges, such as Mt. Gox and Bitstamp, there are multiple bots that buy and sell bitcoins at the same time cluttering the markets and the rate of bitcoin. The purpose of these bots is to gain profit, so traders will get more more tempated to start to use some kind of homespun trading bot. What will we see in six months? War of bots, that rally the rate of bitcoin and make markets completely volatile? That defintely isn´t good for the arising bitcoin ecosystem. So if the bitcoin exchanges want to be trustful, the bots should be banned, or should they?  Huh

What's wrong with them? Are you a ludite or what? They just do what humans would do, but they are much more productive. Volatility decreases when volume increases. Compare a penny stock's volatility with the SP500's.
833  Economy / Economics / Re: Why does acceptance of Bitcoin has to do with the price of Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2014, 04:17:26 PM
Why is there a correlation between the two?
Thanks

Because price depends on demand. Why do you think Bitcoin is much more valuable (taking into account supply differences) than say Doge Coin?
834  Economy / Economics / Re: will America ever be free again? on: September 02, 2014, 04:15:35 PM
before 1913 there was no income tax, no central bank, and gold was money.

in 1913 the constitution was amended to allow the government to directly tax the citizens and the federal reserve was established.
for 58 years the banks printed so much money and stole so much purchasing power that America had to default on its obligation to redeem dollars for gold altogether in 1971.

and now the situation has deteriorated to the point where you have to report to the government how much you make and pay taxes even if you don't live and work in America,
simply for being a holder of an American citizenship.

not only that but the government is forcing foreign banks to spy on Americans with FATCA, so much so that some foreign banks no longer want any American customers,
because spying on them is too much hassle.

America used to stand for freedom, it was the land of opportunities and the land of the free, where government was kept in check and money was honest.
it has become but a shadow of its former self, not much better than China and Russia.

will America ever return to be as it was at the beginning of the 20th century?

It's really sad to see what has happened to the USA. But it's still a relatively free country. I would love to be a USA citizen to be able to move to New Hampshire and join the Free State Project.

Unfortunately I don't see it returning to what it was about a century ago. States become more interventionist as there's more wealth to steal.
835  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: September 02, 2014, 04:11:08 PM
Not buying many more last year, when I started learning about it.
836  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: September 02, 2014, 04:09:11 PM
Come on, haven't we suffered enough Socialism? Didn't Austrian economists already refute socialism many decades ago (Böhm Bawerk refuted the absurd labour theory of value in the XIX century! http://mises.org/daily/1680) Don't you study history? Cuba was one of the richest countries of the world before communism, now it's one of the poorest. Or look at the difference in purchasing power between North and South Korea. What about the number of people that died in Russia, China or Cambodia?
837  Economy / Economics / Re: The best way to invest Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2014, 03:59:35 PM
Once, I started with Cex.io's business but I get out as fast as I could and start changing my investing in BTCJam. Now, some people tell me that put the BTC in loans is very dangerous because the price.

And I was like...

What then, is the best way to invest Bitcoin, given the amount of start-ups and business that are right now? Which one is the best according to you?

Bitfinex is fine as long as you want to change the BTC for USD, as interest rates for BTC are very low.
838  Economy / Economics / Re: You work your butt off, and a rich dude does nothing and gets rich - how? on: September 02, 2014, 03:57:45 PM
Money doesn't make money. Only investing it properly will make you richer. And to invest, you need to win money first, and choose not to spend it.

Take a look at the Forbes' list of say 30 years ago and tell me if you even know any of them.

839  Economy / Economics / Re: Would u pay in bitcoin? on: September 02, 2014, 03:54:56 PM
My question is if u see something u would like to buy and this item is offered at a lower price if paid using bitcoins, providing that you don't already have a wallet or coins would you take the time to set up a wallet and buy bitcoins just to be able to receive a discount on the item u wish to purchase?
I believed atm most people would not bother and pay full price,
WHY IS THIS SO?

It depends on how much would I save for doing that. And how much time I thought it would take me to do it.
840  Economy / Economics / Re: Easiest way to make BTC? on: September 02, 2014, 03:52:58 PM
Giving something valuable in exchange. Let the prices guide you. And don't let bureaucrats stop you.
