8201  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Discussion] Is Blockchain necessary for our future? on: June 27, 2021, 01:37:01 PM
And sure, you can use blockchains for other things. But the question is — is it actually necessary? I don't think blockchains should be used for almost everything.
That is one of the reasons that many startups/ICOs (call them whatever you want) fail. They don't need a blockchain for their use case at all. The developers only make one to earn money from it. I remember reading about an ICO that wanted to build movie theatres and you would have to buy tickets with their tokens. Why would I want to go through that hassle if we already have other cryptos that can be used for the same thing or we can just stick to fiat!?

And while I think there might be other good uses of a blockchain besides Bitcoin, I'm yet to be impressed.
A decentralized and open-source voting system seems like a good use case. Blockchains are used in the shipping industry to show the movement and origins of goods. A database that can show you where each component of your item came from. I think Walmart tracks the shipment of pork through an IBM-developed blockchain.
8202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Riddles and Brain-Teasers for Bitcointalk Members (Newbies – Members) on: June 27, 2021, 12:59:00 PM
Riddle #8

Andy believes the current situation on the crypto market is a great time to get involved. Many coins are cheap and undervalued, and he sees great potential in making some money out of it. He uses Telegram daily, and one day one of his online friends added him to a Telegram investment group. Andy has a great feeling about this group because everyone seems friendly. They talk about the profits they made in the past and how there will be great opportunities for new members to earn some serious money if they follow them. They have thousands of members who share their experiences and post screenshots of their profits.

The next day, the group admins posted a notification that another investment round will start two days from now. The rules are very simple. The whole community gets together and starts buying the same coin. The coin's value goes up, and then the community will receive a signal from the organizers when it's time to sell. It's so simple, yet so effective, Andy thinks. He prepares the money he will invest and waits in anticipation on when the day will come.

What kind of investment group has Andy gotten himself involved in?
Is this a bulletproof way of earning money, or what are the potential dangers?

@Pterosaur
You might be forgetting that bitcoin, just like the whole crypto industry, also suffered at the beginning of the pandemic same as other types of investments. If you go back and look at the charts in February and March 2020 when the infection started its massive spread in Europe, you will see that bitcoin was priced around $10.000 and from there it dropped by almost 50% to $5.000. Then it slowly took off until it peeked at around 63-64k. I am not sure how much the pandemic had to do with it or if it was mostly down to greater acceptance by big businesses and corporations who started buying loads of coins and investing their capital into crypto.

@Pmalek It's not a bug, it's your adblocker extension. If you disable it (or just disable cosmetic filtering) you'll be able to see the table just fine.
I am using uBlock Origin on Google Chrome. When uBlock is turned on for Bitcointalk, I can't see the table. When I turn it off and refresh pugman's thread, the table re-appears. You were right about the adblocker affecting the pages. When I am on Firefox, it works just fine since I don't have an ad-blocker there.
8205  Economy / Gambling / Re: ✅🍅 wintomato.com 🍅Dice 🍅 Slots 🍅 Sport Betting on: June 27, 2021, 09:21:26 AM
and what is the difference between having a Curaço license or no license = none
so what do you think is the best?
The problem with gamblers is that they don't know what they want themselves most of the time. When the casino has no gambling license, they complain why there is no license. When the casino has a license and requires them to undergo identity verification to comply with KYC/AML regulations, gamblers complain about having to do KYC. They don't want to submit their identity documents for different reasons. You can't expect the casino to be licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and give you the the absolute freedoms to do whatever you want without respecting what they require of you.
8206  Other / Meta / Re: An Alternative to Merit on: June 27, 2021, 09:02:55 AM
Atleast if I don't have merit to give, I will just click like and move on pending when I'll have merit to award the user.
You can still come back to the posts you want to merit later on when you have sMerits to give. You don't need likes for that. Just bookmark the post or save it to a new document that you keep on your computer for posts you intend to merit later on. When your stash of merits goes up, find a post you like from your saved history and merit it.

I believe we should start worrying about the merit system when established members who have received thousands or merits start speaking out against it. If they deem it unfair or bad even after having received so much, then we have a problem.
8207  Other / Meta / Re: Where to post about a new futures exchange on: June 27, 2021, 08:41:42 AM
I can view the table from my end. Did you inadvertently add pugman to your ignore list?
No, he is not on my ignore list, and I can see his other posts just fine. It's just that the usual table I have seen plenty of times and the whole post is gone from the OP.

Maybe there is an issue with my connection or something going on with the forum right now. I haven't noticed the same 'bug' in other threads. I even opened a few discussions that contain various tables and they are showing just fine. Let's see if the problem will go away by itself...
8208  Other / Meta / Re: How to earn merit on: June 27, 2021, 08:33:28 AM
But I don’t think theymos will implement any changes to the merit system, I am sure he has already done the math as to how many rank ups are possible with present merit sources, if he does implement the change then i think he will reduce the refill merit amount to the merit sources.
I doubt drastic changes will be made to the requirements for ranking up. And it wouldn't be fair for those who had to put in a lot of effort to get from newbie to legendary to one day wake up and see an announcement that the legendary rank now requires only 500 or 100 merits when they had to earn 1000. Of course life isn't fair, but if we have a system in place, and it works, there is no reason to change it.

There is already plenty of drama regarding old legendary accounts who received enough airdropped merits to become legendary and then were never rewarded any sMerits by other members. But more drama would certainly increase the traffic. Shocked

One thing I wonder is how to approach trusted an experienced users for such a campaign. Obviously everyone carrying our signatures would have to put a lot of trust in us...
The users who will be promoting your exchange will wear a signature under their name and maybe an avatar. As long as they are getting paid for wearing it, you really don't have to worry about finding enough candidates. Check out some of the signature campaigns in the Services section to get a feeling about what rates those campaigns pay at weekly. Naturally, if you pay more, you can expect a better group of applicants. If you pay less, you will get more spammers and less quality.

How can I approach experienced managers for help related to a signature campaign?
Here you go:

- Hhampuz Campaign Management, Escrow Service & Promotions
- DarkStar_ manages ChipMixer (the sig you can see under my name), but I am not sure if he is interested in taking on additional work.
- Royse777🧢 Campaign Management and Translation 💹Agency📈💪🔥
- Legendary - Campaign Management Service by Coolcryptovator.🚀
- yahoo62278 Campaign Management services(Available)

There are more campaign managers out there, but that should be enough for a start.

P.S; here's the most updated list of campaign managers I could find,.should help narrow down your search - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4412712.msg39280543#msg39280543
pugman's OP is empty on my end. Is it just me or is the table gone?
8210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to restore non BTC coins or tokens from a broken ledger device? on: June 27, 2021, 07:55:21 AM
Do you know if that is device specific? or is it the "default" derivation path for Tron? Huh
I am not sure really. I just tried to add a new Tron account just to see what derivation path that one will show and I got "44'/195'/1'/ which is normal. To be 100% sure if the path is device specific or not, we would need someone else with a Nano S to install the Tron app and check what path he has.

I recall many years ago Ledger had some non-standard path for ETH which caused some issues when trying to use the device with MEW etc. They had a specific "Ledger" option when trying to open your wallet.
Ledger's derivation path for Ethereum is "44'/60'/0'/. I never had to recover or play around with my ETH account so I am not sure if this is standard or a custom one.

I don't need it myself but you can post tron derivation path in ledger to help people like @miningsetup in recovering coins on other wallets.
In case miningsetup or someone else needs it, the default Tron derivation path for Ledger is "44'/195'/0'/.

I did notice when opening the application a few status reports that mention that they are having some issues synching to a few blockchains. Polkadot is apparently not working and the Ethereum Ropsten network.

The only reason I tried to install it was to help people like him but ledger live crashed every time I tried to go to settings for tron app and find derivation path, and that is what I call junk app.
Could it be an outdated app? I assume you don't use LL that often since you don't like it. Try to download the latest version from their website, you can't update to it from the app anyway. It requires you to download and install it manually.

Kakav lik Grin
8214  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I use a 12 word seed extension and store it separately? on: June 26, 2021, 01:16:25 PM
<Snip>
Any mistake you make while creating a backup of your seed extension will result in recovering a completely different wallet and set of addresses. But the possibility of making a mistake when using 12 new words is, of course, greater than when using just one or two.

If my passphrase is 'Pmalekpass' and I entered 'Pmalekspass', it would also result in a failure of recovering my original wallet.
8215  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring wallet from seed on: June 26, 2021, 12:56:34 PM
You are not going to get far with just the 2FA recovery code. You can even restore your Electrum wallet without that code. You said in OP that you "lost your home", does that also mean you no longer have access to the computer where your Electrum app was installed? If you have, you need the correct wallet file  or private keys.

The worrying thing is that you claim you only have 2 set of codes with numbers. Best case scenario is those are private keys of your funded address. Worst case scenario, you just wrote down the 30-seconds 6-digit 2FA codes that keep changing and are therefore useless. I also don't like that the codes are numbers only.
8216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting Experiment #2: Chasing the Draw on: June 26, 2021, 09:33:47 AM
The first bet looks adequate and the odds are quite acceptable. As for the second bet, I did not understand how the odds here can be higher than for the event of a simple victory for Italy (1.6 > 1.5)  or is 1.6 - 1.65 odds obtained only in case of a win with a two-goal difference?
Yes, Italy would have to win with two or more goals difference for you to win the whole bet. A 2:0 Italy win would get you $165 on a $100 bet. If Italy wins only 1:0, your reward would only be $132.50. As you can see, you don't win as much on that AH bet as you would betting on a simple Italy win if your team only wins with a one-goal difference. You have to win both bets that make up the AH for maximum profit.
8217  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Not Connecting to Any Server on: June 26, 2021, 09:24:50 AM
Cause there was one other program that I  had to abandon because my PC had issues with reaching out to its server for program updates.
Since it's not the first time your system blocks internet access to a program, you could check your Kaspersky protection history and quarantine folder and see if there are any Electrum files there. I don't use Kaspersky, so I don't know the exact steps how to do it there. For Windows Defender you will have to search for 'Virus & threat protection' and then click on 'Protection history'. Take a look at what is in there and restore any Electrum files that you might find. It can't be much different for Kaspersky, they probably just use different terms.
8218  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Same seeds on the Electrum and Mycelium Wallet - Problem? on: June 26, 2021, 09:09:56 AM
I had the recovery phrase stored on my phone in the notes.
You shouldn't do this. The seed should never be stored digitally or online in any way. If you have malware on your phone or a malicious app (or you download something like that in the future), your seed could be compromised and your coins stolen.

The later one I created so that I can differentiate money coming from two different source. For example, whatever I win on the crypto casino's and trading platform goes straight into my Electrum. While on the other hand anything from my pencil artwork sales, campaigns promotions etc. goes into Mycelium.
It's all part of the same wallet and the addresses are derived from the same seed. In case you consolidate your funds or use two inputs (one from coins that originate from your gambling and a second one from your artwork), you will create a connection and proof that the same person who creates artwork also wins money on gambling. This is just a theory and requires blockchain analysis, but I think you will understand the point I am making.

The next two seeds that you create should be written down on paper and not stored on your phone.

Don't forget USBHarpoon either. USBHarpoon - a charging cable that can hack your computer.

It works as a normal data transfer and charging cable, but once connected, it's able to download malware and execute various commands. The thing works on MAC and Windows, as well as on mobile phones and even drones (as shown on the video in the source link). Scary stuff.
8220  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 25th Word in Nano Ledger S on: June 26, 2021, 08:41:04 AM
But what percentage of nano ledger s or trezor wallets are not accessible because the user forgot the 25th Word?  I got to assume this happens much more than talked about?
What percentage of women like men wearing while polo shirts? No one keeps track of stuff like that. And you said it yourself, it probably happens more often than what is publicly known, so even if we had a percentage for you, it wouldn't be accurate.

In the month that you were gone, have you still not made up your mind about whether or not to add a passphrase? Since you are sticking to your own methods of storing your recovery phrase in password managers and digital storage options, what's the point in considering passphrases?

Here is a percentage question for you. What is the chance that you will adopt any of the advice and knowledge people give you? 1%, 5%, more?
