8221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [VIDEO]: Bitcoin Exists Only in Satoshi's Imagination on: July 03, 2021, 08:44:38 AM
Lets be honest here without Fiat Bitcoin would be worthless because 99% of people sell or trade it for Fiat money  Without it being linked to Fiat it would not have any value at all.
That's because bitcoin's adoption rate hasn't reached a stage where you can use it everywhere you go. You have to convert it to fiat if the other party you buy from doesn't accept bitcoin. Imagine it being the other way around. If you lived in a place where everyone takes bitcoin and avoids fiat. You wouldn't have to exchange your bitcoin to USD because you can get everything you need with BTC already.
8222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the only thing that humans cannot control on: July 03, 2021, 08:37:13 AM
Very weird assumptions you are making there OP. If Bitcoin can't be controlled, tell me, what happens if all miners shut down their equipment and stop mining forever? How will your next transaction be confirmed? Isn't that a way in which humans can control the network? I am not interested in what the chances are of something like that happening, only that it is theoretically possible. Didn't the Chinese government take control and decide what the Chinese miners can and cannot do a few weeks ago? No one can control Bitcoin you say, but can you run your mining operations without electricity?

What about full-nodes and the decentralization aspect of Bitcoin. Can't that also be influenced if all full-nodes left the network for whatever reason and we would be down to just two? Is bitcoin then a decentralized currency?
8223  Other / Meta / Re: Question for admins: Add one more post in my thread maybe? on: July 03, 2021, 07:53:44 AM
I don't know how much old your post is. Now, if mod wants to add a post in #2, all the post-id which has been made later has to be changed.
I don't know why it matters when the thread was created, but just for reference, it's from June 24, 2021. It's this one btw > All Lightning Network Threads In One Place.

The new empty post should actually be #3, #2 is already mine. If the post IDs is something that can be changed automatically, I don't think anyone would care or mind which ID their post has.

Instead, you can link in the OP with bold characters. That would be the best solution IMO.
I have considered adding a piece of text that says the table continues here and a link that goes to a new post in my thread, but I would prefer to have the discussions neatly organized by dates one below the other, and not forcing the readers to jump to post #10, #20, etc. to check the rest of the table.
8224  Other / Meta / Question for admins: Add one more post in my thread maybe? on: July 03, 2021, 07:12:31 AM
I am currently working on a thread where I am collecting the best discussions about the Lightning Network in one place. I reserved the OP and one post underneath it for the tables that link to all other threads.

The problem is that I am running out of space and reaching maximum character counts in both OP and the 2nd post. I would hate to abandon it because it's almost finished, so I am asking a question where I am already 100% certain that it isn't possible, but who knows. Maybe it can be done with some admin magic.

Would it be possible for the admins to add a new post in my thread and give it to me just below the #2 post, and kind of push all other posts one step lower? This sounds stupid even while I am writing it. Roll Eyes
8225  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: July 03, 2021, 06:57:44 AM

Bitcointalk simply doesnt provide incentive for people to bother with it now for varying reasons.
That's because new users don't want to put in any effort and want to go straight to picking the apples from the highest branches. It doesn't work like that in life or on the forum. You want your rewards, do the work just like everyone else.

Speaking like someone who had a merit giveaway thread (that died do to inactivity) and I am currently posting riddles where I ask Newbies, Jr., and Members to solve them in exchange for some merits for the best answers and the possibility to learn something, my opinion about those lower ranks is that many don't deserve the effort. Some do, but most don't. When there is an initiative to help them, they couldn't care to take part, when there isn't, they complain why there isn't one.

Primarily this is financial but also even in terms of being an information source.
I guess it depends on what kind of information you are looking for. I find Bitcointalk useful for finding out everything new that is happening around Bitcoin. Since I don't care about alts, ICOs, DeFi, and stuff like that, I don't go looking for news about that. There are also many local forums here that keep you informed about what is going on in your region. I find that very useful.

Merit killed bitcointalk because the only thing bitcointalk offered over reddit or any other crypto related platform was the ability to earn.
You can still do that. Just look at all the signatures underneath the profiles. All of them are paid. You just have to make an effort to be accepted in a campaign.

Once the centralized self serving merit system was implemented it destroyed the feeling of opportunity and free speech for most new members.
As long as free speech doesn't go against the forum rules, nothing is stopping you from speaking your mind. The fact that you are not banned and still posting, shows the forum has free speech.

There are now zero outstanding characters here, good or bad (.. well maybe 2 or 3 exceptions so not zero). Just a bland bunch of non achieving low level grifters and their ass munchers. I mean I often read the board but nothing happens or is said that is even interesting in a bad way.
That's the way you see it and I am not going to try and change your mind. Why don't you take part in a civilized discussion about Bitcoin or the technology for once? I don't think I have ever seen a post of yours that isn't negative.
8226  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 03, 2021, 06:31:24 AM
@panjul07
I added PlayBitcoinGames to this list. Thanks for the information!

I don't think their FAQ page is updated and correct. When you go to the cashout page of the casino (https://www.playbitcoingames.com/cashout.html), you can see that the minimum withdrawal amount is 2 mBTC which is equal to 0.002 BTC. I am not sure why their FAQ claims it's $1, but I seriously doubt you can withdraw such a small amount.

The cashout page states "1.00% + 0.00m฿" when it comes to withdrawals. I am not sure what the + 0.00m฿ is supposed to signal, and if the withdrawal fees increase in certain situations. For now, I will not mention it in my OP.

8228  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Legacy Wallet on Android app? on: July 02, 2021, 12:46:19 PM
Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, the language shouldn't matter. Electrum only uses the wordlist when generating seed phrases, not when restoring them. OP should be able to restore his seed phrase regardless of the language.
With that in mind, he might have not tried to restore his Copay wallet in Electrum properly the first time. That's why it didn't work.

@undefinedd
When you tried to restore your seed in Electrum, did you click on the BIP39 checkbox in the settings menu? After you click on "I already have a seed", you will notice a gear icon above the box where you need to enter your seed. Click on it to get into the settings.

What about the derivation path?
8229  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk has lasted a long time. Good job. on: July 02, 2021, 12:37:38 PM
Not sure how would COVID cause him to be fed up, but you might be right about the island thing...
No, no. Go back to the beginning of my post when I said "one can only fear the worst". He might no longer be with us (deceased). That's what I meant. The second part about him getting fed up with Bitcointalk or being in jail, or on an exotic island somewhere are just other possibilities why he is missing.
8230  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 02, 2021, 12:32:06 PM
Do you get to accumulate/ stack them?
No, that doesn't seem to work. I just tried to claim some bitcoin and ether again, but I am getting a notification that the balance must be empty for a successful faucet claim. I tried to claim monero and XRP as well, but that didn't work either. Based on my experience from yesterday when I was allowed to claim both BTC and ETH in the space of five minutes, it looks as if you can claim two different coins. But not more than that unless your overall balance drops to zero.
8231  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Legacy Wallet on Android app? on: July 02, 2021, 09:46:42 AM
I have never used the Copay wallet, but what exactly is preventing OP to restore his wallet from seed and ticking the BIP-39 checkbox in Electrum? My guess is a different derivation path. Can't the correct derivation path be found somewhere online or by reaching out to the developers of the wallet?

What about this source for example for the derivation paths?

8232  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New Trezor Suite Update on: July 02, 2021, 09:13:22 AM
The important question is: Will it be possible to manage your coins and perform transactions through their web wallet in the future or not? Have they indicated that https://wallet.trezor.io/#/ wont be available after a certain date in the future?

The blog announcement is the more accurate definition. The Trezor Suite is currently one way of managing your assets, but it's not the only way. With new
features and improvements, they plan to make it the main/best/easiest way to handle your coins. If you don't want the main/best/easiest thing, you can still use the alternative (web wallet).
8233  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk has lasted a long time. Good job. on: July 02, 2021, 08:30:56 AM
On a side note, I wonder what happened to him.
Considering how active TMAN was during January and February 2020 and that he didn't mention anything about leaving, taking a break, or doing something else, one can only fear the worst. His last post dates back to the end of February. February-March is the time when the pandemic really started breaking out all around Europe and the US. He might have gotten caught up in it.

It doesn't have to be COVID at all. Maybe he just got fed up with the forum, or he is in jail, or he is spending his crypto fortunes on an exotic island somewhere.

I wouldn't just limit it to that. I'd say why this forum has been so successful would be a combination of Satoshi being a fundamental part of the draw, even after he became inactive.
Satoshi might have something to do with it, but I don't think that him having been here is that big of a deal. New users who come and register on Bitcointalk mostly due so for two reasons:

  • They are looking for help and a Google search or friendly advice led them to Bitcointalk.
  • They are looking to profit from bounty/signature campaigns and heard they can do that here.
8234  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful of scammers on p2p exchanges on: July 02, 2021, 08:09:35 AM
That's a good notification. Binance doesn't make claims they can't prove or verify. They are simply informing the customer that the buyer claims to have sent the payment. Before releasing the crypto, it's recommended the seller makes sure that he has received his money.

A bad notification would say that the payment has been sent by the buyer and the seller should release the coins as soon as possible. However, that is not the case here and Binance has done the job properly.
8235  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new here on: July 01, 2021, 12:51:02 PM
Can I post in non crypto related thread and still do well here?
You can post in non-crypto related discussions, but my question would be, why? Why would you come to a Bitcoin and crypto forum to discuss thinks that have nothing to do with digital coins and are off-topic? If your goal is to gain some knowledge about bitcoin, you can't achieve that by not reading and talking about it. But my impression is that by asking if you can "do well", you would like to know if you can increase your forum rank without knowing or learning anything about bitcoin. If that is the case, then no. You would have to be very lucky to "do well" here without having an interest in crypto.

If I am wrong, and you indeed want to learn, I always suggest taking a look at an easy to understand video like this one:
What is Bitcoin? Bitcoin Explained Simply for Dummies
An introduction like the one written by Coinbureau is also a good starting point > https://www.coinbureau.com/education/what-is-bitcoin/.
8236  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 01, 2021, 12:22:38 PM
I see there is a lot of currency there, do we get them when we use the faucet at the same time?
No, you don't get them all of them at the same time. I just tried it and I received 0.00000005 BTC after my first claim. After that, you have to wait 5 minutes before you can claim again. From what I can see, there is a total of 40 claims per day.

Their faucet works by moving a slider to the right and placing the marker over a coin. On my second claim, I was awarded 0.00000094 ETH.
8237  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful of scammers on p2p exchanges on: July 01, 2021, 09:34:41 AM
I haven't used the Binance DEX so I am not sure about their notification system and what exactly it says.

@Oshosondy
You said that you received a notification from Binance in which it is said that the buyer claims to have send fiat to your bank account. I assume that is an automatic notification that gets sent to sellers as soon as the buyer marks the transaction as paid.

What exactly does the Binance notification say?
Are they just informing their clients that payment has been made, or do they advise them to manually check their bank accounts to ensure payment has been made before releasing their coins? If they aren't doing the latter, it's an inadequate way to notify users, which can, as we have seen, lead to the loss of coins for those who don't know how the system works, and it needs to be changed asap.

Could we see the notification message? Feel free to cover any private info that might be in it.

Ja sam opet negdje pročitao da se jako puno farmi seli u američku saveznu državu Teksas, navodno zbog vrlo jeftine struje  Grin
Ameri ih pokušavaju privući jednim uređenim sistemom i dobrim postrojenjima. Daju im sigurnost koju u Kini nisu imali i naravno jeftinu struju.

Vrlo rijetko to nije slučaj. Desilo je se jučer ili prekjučer npr da je ETH skočio za oko 10% dok je bitcoin bio relativno miran, ali eto i to se polako vraća na prethodno stanje.
8239  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 01, 2021, 08:51:59 AM
So for me the faucet is only used for trial adoption and they can start with a faucet claim so it can't be multiplied or withdrawn even I am very unlikely to have someone who can multiply the faucet to be greater than the gambling results.
I recently performed an experiment in which I wanted to claim faucets, then use those winnings to make multiple other bets on casino games and sports that would ultimately allow me to step over the minimum withdrawal threshold to withdraw the money. I wanted to see if it's doable and how easy it could be. It went OK for a little while, and I managed to earn around $30-40. However, I lost it all and concluded that it takes a lot of guts, luck, and patience to do it successfully.

It's a pity that some people are trying to find an evil intent in this whole discussion.
I have a feeling like you are taking it personally. You shouldn't. It's nothing against you. People have evil intentions and will look to exploit every little thing that can be exploited. One should never generalize because not everyone is that same, but imagine you posted your private key in a public post by mistake instead of your address. What do you think how many people would try to sweep the funds and steal them, and how many people would make you aware of your mistake and ask you to correct it or send the coins to an address under their control and ask you how to return it to you? I think 2 or 3 out of 10 would do the right thing, the others wouldn't. Money corrupts people. Undecided
