8301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do i recover my bitcoins for an address? on: June 17, 2021, 08:16:27 AM
So you used Bitcoin Core in the past and you have the correct wallet.dat? Is the file corrupted or password-protected that prevents you to load the wallet in Bitcoin Core? Why don't you download Bitcoin Core, open your wallet, and let the software sync? You can try exporting all your private keys by entering 'dumpwallet' (unless the command changed). After that, import those keys in Electrum if you don't feel like downloading the whole blockchain from scratch. Would that not work?
8302  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: June 17, 2021, 07:54:36 AM
...and that without naming those casinos that have prohibited countries that somehow affect them and I do not know if it is also taking into account for the review?
It's very rare to find a licensed crypto casino without certain country restrictions. Almost all of them restrict players from certain territories from gambling at their site. I haven't considered that when creating this list. It's up to each individual player to get acquainted with the terms and conditions of the site they play at. Since these faucets don't require depositing your own money, the greatest danger is wasting your time on a casino you are not allowed to gamble at in the first place.
8303  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Riddles and Brain-Teasers for Bitcointalk Members (Newbies – Members) on: June 16, 2021, 10:21:30 PM
In other words, it makes no difference whether you send $ 10 or $ 10000 - your transaction fee can be the same.
OK, so the amount of coins we send and the location of the receiver doesn't have any affect on the required transaction fees. The mining fees are determined based on the size of the transaction. In that case, what would be the ideal type of bitcoin transaction (size-wise) that Ivan can send to his brother, and what would a bad one look like or be made up of?
8304  Other / Meta / Re: Is The Purpose of The Merit System Defeated? on: June 16, 2021, 01:19:18 PM
Let's break it down step by step:

I propose that;
1. The newbies should be restricted to posting only in Beginners and Help Board.
No. Newbie restrictions and a newbie jail is not welcome. Everyone should be allowed to post anywhere they want if this forum is to keep its importance in the future.

2. However, newbies should be allowed to read in all boards for learning purposes.
The forum allows you to read its content even without being logged in, so the rank doesn't matter.

4. Every newbie should remain in this status for a period of 90days. After the expiration of 90days, the forum moderators shall examine the performance of every newbie, then immediately award a certain number of merits(Let's say 10, 20, 50 etc) according to the performance of the newbie in this 90days orientation period. Also place the user in any rank other than newbie according to the performance aswell.
This is a discussion board. People are not applying for a visa or studying for their master's degree. Who would be interested in going through all that to become a member here? The moderators have enough to do without giving them the task to check the post quality of each and every newbie. All members (no matter their ranks) should get merits in the same way: Based on the quality of their posts.

Pros:
If this is implemented, we could have the following results
1. The rate of spamming will reduce drastically
In other parts of the forum, yes, but it will increase in the B&H board.

2. The rate of plagiarism will reduce aswell.
Limiting newbies to the B&H board wont reduce the number of plagiarized posts, but it will make them easier to find.

4. This will help guide users on which boards to post, most often you will see a newbie posting a Beginners and help post in meta.
Such posts can be moved to the appropriate sub-boards. What if the newbie posts in a foreign language, starts a discussion about an altcoin/ICO, starts a scam thread, etc. All those would go in B&H as well?

5. This will reduce the amount of none quality posts
Highly unlikely.

6. It will also reduce off topic posts.
It will increase off-topic posts because all threads by newbies will be posted in the same sub.

7. It will encourage the newbie to research and have good knowledge of the forum and Cryptocurrencies at large in order to be awarded higher merits and promoted to a good rank after the orientation period.
it will result in newbies no longer being interested in joining Bitcointalk and spending their time elsewhere.

8. It will ease the moderation of the forum.
Newbies aren't the only ones that need to be moderated, all members do, including legendaries.

9. The discusions in the rest of the  boards would be interesting, technical and quality .
A higher rank does not equal greater competence and technical knowledge. Many high ranked members got their merits airdropped and didn't earned them by being merited by other forum members.

Cons:
1. It will limit the chances of a user in a campaign to complete his/her weekly task. However, I don't know if newbies involves in campaigns or not.
The admins don't care about the bounties and signature campaigns members participate in.
8305  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Tags for better sorting of content on: June 16, 2021, 12:35:44 PM
Just do a search for site:bitcointalk.org merit giveaway to see all relevant results. Click on tools/settings in your browser and adjust the date range. Change it to past year/month/week/day to see different results. The site:bitcointalk.org searches have always given the best results in my opinion.

You can also try to search through Ninjastic.space and customize the post title and post content according to your liking.
8306  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I use a 12 word seed extension and store it separately? on: June 16, 2021, 11:25:10 AM
I don't know anything about brute forcing (and hopefully will never have to find out), but how plausible is some sort of dictionary attack made up from the BIP39 words list for finding 12 English words compared to bruteforcing an extended seed with random characters that represent 12 word-like structures (Jbf-1, 5nY9?, Unf^%8, etc.)? I hope you understand my question.
8307  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live 2.29.0 - Windows Users on: June 16, 2021, 09:21:01 AM
Interesting! I used Ledger Live last night and didn't notice and new notifications that could hint that there is a new update available. Usually, the notifications area shows an unread message that would trigger you to click on it. Will try it again later today. This update doesn't seem to solve any recently discovered vulnerabilities, otherwise Ledger would have bombarded us with messages to upgrade asap.

They seem to have introduced a daily chart for your portfolio, and a new decentralized crypto exchange the other day. I will wait for a couple of days/weeks before installing the new update just to make sure it's stable and doesn't introduce some unwanted issues.
8308  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safepal,Ledger,Trezor keep a backup of my 24 words and transfer to their server? on: June 16, 2021, 09:05:03 AM
Trezor is completely open-source, so if you don't trust them and believe they have a way to record your seed phrase, feel free to go through thousands of lines of code to expose that vulnerability. Ledger is almost open-source, (their secure element isn't). Again, feel free to inspect their codebase if you like. Since most people don't have the skills to do that, you are left with trusting that others have done it. Alternatively, pay someone to do it for you or get someone to create your own hardware wallet based on open-source code. You would then have to trust that person has done a good job.

Since most of that is undoable for the majority of people, you can either trust that Trezor and Ledger, who have been in the business for years, don't have a way to get to your seed, since they could have emptied all of our accounts at any time (I am not sure what they are waiting for if they can), or you find alternative ways to store your private keys. Things like paper wallets and non-custodial software on airgapped machines.

8310  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake vs Bet365: The Live Streaming Battle on: June 16, 2021, 08:49:15 AM
I love to gamble with Bet365 but it's blocking my country, it's the problem for some countries who are on the list for their "country restriction".
Why gamble there if your country is blocked and this could cause you issues down the road when you decide to withdraw your funds? They have systems in place to recognize VPN usage and you have to verify your identity and address before you can withdraw money.

The best way to enjoy stake live stream is to buy a big monitor so you'll clearly see the live stream which cannot be in full-screen mode.
It would be much better if Stake made it possible to change the size of the streaming window. It makes no sense to purchase a new monitor for something as trivial as that. It can only benefit them and their customers, so they don't go looking for alternative streams.
8311  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: June 15, 2021, 07:54:15 PM
Update:
FortuneJack has made some changes to the amount of satoshis that can be claimed. Players no longer receive 523 satoshis per claim. The new changes foresee that players will be rewarded $0.05 worth of bitcoin for every claim. You can still claim the free faucet 5 times per day, but only if your account balance is below $0.0036.

Too bad that they decreased the rewards. FortuneJack used to have the best faucet among all crypto casinos in my opinion. Now it's just like the rest of them.
8312  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Newbie Question: Where do I find my wallet address?? on: June 15, 2021, 09:33:36 AM
If you are using "bitcoin.com", be aware that this is actually a scam site designed to trick you in to buying a coin called BCash (BCH) which is not bitcoin. Make sure you are actually buying bitcoin (BTC).
They did that for a long time, but they have actually changed that. Not sure what prompted them to make that change, but I felt it's important to mention. When you visit the site now and click on the "Buy/Sell Bitcoin" button, it automatically sets you up to purchase the real Bitcoin. And they no longer call it Bitcoin Core, it's just Bitcoin now. If you want Bitcoin Cash, you'll have to select it manually from the dropdown menu.

8315  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: June 15, 2021, 08:21:56 AM

8316  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake vs Bet365: The Live Streaming Battle on: June 15, 2021, 07:56:51 AM
By the way, can we get a full screen on the stream?
Check my OP regarding the full-screen feature. Stake doesn't give you the option to switch to full-screen, but you can stream matches in any screen size with Bet365. But Bet365 doesn't support cryptocurrencies and is a fiat-only sportsbook. You also need to make a deposit or place a bet to gain access to Bet365's streaming service.

They have made some announcements on their social media accounts...
Good enough, I am adding it to OP!
8317  Local / Altcoins (Hrvatski) / Re: Polkadot (DOT) Staking on: June 15, 2021, 07:48:52 AM
Iskreno, pojma nisam imao o tome.

8318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how did government retrieve ransomware bitcoin? on: June 14, 2021, 05:43:49 PM
I disagree. That is the definition of bad journalism. The whole point of being a journalist is to report accurate facts and information. If you don't know or understand something, then you are expected to find out before you write about it, or not write about it at all.
Those were the good old days my friend. You would have to take a trip to the past if you want to see that. Investigative and research-based journalism is a Walkman nowadays. Journalists, or more precisely article writers, are agenda pushers and click creators. Clicks, likes, and shares. Spectacular claims and thought-provoking headlines that leave you disappointed when you are done with the piece.
8319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake vs Bet365: The Live Streaming Battle on: June 14, 2021, 04:59:48 PM
Well I think you may update these informations Pmalek because along with these sports, Stake is now offering live streams for all NBA and MLB matches as it has been added on their page.
Thanks for the update Saint-loup!
I am going to update the OP to mention that Stake now also streams NBA and MLB matches because that wasn't there before.

Moreover they haven't yet update their page but since last saturday Stake is (freely) offering live streams for all UFC fights. And AFAIK this is an exclusive among all sportsbooks.
Is there an official announcement about them streaming all UFC events or confirmation on their ANN thread? Because if there isn't, I am not going to mention it just yet.
8320  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Say the Binance CEO? on: June 14, 2021, 11:22:23 AM
<Snip>
I read both articles now. I have no reasons not to believe that what you are saying about CZ contacting mining pools to organize a roll back aren't true, but the two articles show no proof of that. They do link to his tweet where he stated that he changed his mind about the roll back, but they show no proof that messages were sent to mining pools with such proposals. Where did you read about the 300 BTC reward he offered for the reorg?

Nevertheless, I am glad his proposal was turned down. I can't imagine what kind of negative consequences it would have had for the network. The miners passed the test with this one. Although, had they done it and succeeded, the faith in the network would have been seriously damaged, and so would their potential future mining rewards.
