I got the impression BFL is hardly even trying; they don't seem to work weekends, they don't even seem to make full use of their assembly space/stations by running shifts 24/7 so are presumably only using 1/3 to 1/2 the number of people in assembly as the space could fit if put to full use.

Where are you getting this from? BFL never promised to work holidays, weekends, or 24/7. And how the hell does one use 1/3 or 1/2 a man? I'm seriously! Have you been there? Well, I have, and they use every square inch of space they have and then some. Running 24/7 shifts is an impossibility, even if the manpower were there or the suppliers delivered on time predicated on the chips they receive, for the simple fact that there's not enough room on the dock to place 1,200 boxes daily awaiting for the four different carriers to pick them up before the entire process would start all over again. Trust me! When BFL rids their backlog by the end of the year, give or take, they'll be free to dedicate their entire resources to only one line--the Monarch. And since they have learned from all pass mistakes, they're be no problem when them getting all the units pre-sold into the hands of their customs no later then the end of February as promised projected. OTOH, KnC promised that all refunds will be honored up to the time of the item being shipped and I will cry fowl, like a free-ranged chicken, if they renege on that promise. go get 'em Phin! |

Price impact: Dramatically up
But not right away. Consider what will happen:
1) It will take X days, weeks, or months for the initial few million $ worth to be bought up. Those purchases have no effect on the exchange price, or maybe even a mild negative effect if some who were buying coins steadily via the exchanges switch over to BIT.
2) Once the initial few million in seed is bought up, Second Market will start to purchase more, maybe $5-10 million worth. If they do part or all of this on an exchange, the price impact will of course be strongly positive. However, given how many contacts they have for private placement, they'll likely acquire part or all of those coins from dark, non-exchange sources. If they purchase very few of those coins on exchanges, the immediate price impact will be negligible, but the medium-term effect will be dramatic.
The reason why is a bit subtle but very real: Insofar as the people Second Market buys the coins from would have sold those coins on exchanges if it weren't for SM giving them the wonderful opportunity to sell without slippage, that much less BTC is going to be available on the exchanges. The same amount of money chasing fewer BTC means a higher price per coin. But there will be a time delay, perhaps days or weeks, maybe in some cases months.
The fun part is that those who understand the time delay get to make money off those who are fooled by the time delay. Translation: Buy before the price rises and get in on the ground floor of the next stage of the bitcoin rocket.
I think the price will be bumped a little just because many are thinking about it like this. Buy before the price rises because it will take off at some point in upcoming weeks or months. It is very bullish news though and I think it would be wise for those that were waiting for the right time to realize that this might be the "right time" even with prices higher than they have been the past few months. I am already "all in" so I don't have any spare change to throw in or I would be buying more right now. Husband just bought a new car too. That cool new $29,000 Mercedes. Of course he had to add a bunch of features so it is more than that. It is setting us back a bit. Oh well.  why does he need to buy the Mercedes when he already has you? |

yep its suppose to even out to 1 hour per 6 confirms..
but with so many ASICS hitting the pools daily, the retarget of difficulty is happening sooner and sooner to try to stablise the delay's or super speeds of confirms.
imagine it if each retarget was still a 2 week gap.. we would have at first some nice 10minute gaps.. then during the week, moving down minutes, then to seconds per confirm.. then after a week of super fast confirms, it retargets (to even out to a months worth of averaging 10 minutes).. making the next 2 weeks take a couple hours per confirm, just to counter the 'few seconds' confirms in previous week.

Kraken, based out of California, does not do any USD trading, and instead operates an XBT/EUR market.

Agree completely. The states are driving businesses, convenience, choice away from the US, in the name of consumer protection, of course. We'll see how long the federal government will tolerate a loosening grasp on the industry as it moves abroad. that's awesome. link? |
