841  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin mining’s comeback in China on: January 03, 2024, 02:33:02 PM
.. especially since I believe that the laws in China are strictly implemented.
Which is what I have been thinking since the day this thread was first posted. China is well known for its laws and habit of controlling everything that its citizens do. Hence if mining is illegal people would not dare to run it underground. However I am not aware of insider details, I would assume that the people there would be terrified of resuming mining even after a ban is running and think twice before re-starting if the ban if lifted.

Such a news article will make no sense until the ban is actually lifted.

You speak without knowledge. Have you ever seen how the business works?

There are many miners that can run underground even without public knowledge. You can easily export the machine to North Europe and run a farm, because hashpower is global. The bans are cosmetic.
In mining, the big problem is not to hide the equipment, although this is also important. It is possible to hide mining equipment, but it is difficult to hide the constant consumption of electricity. In Russia, power engineers have become very effective in catching illegal miners due to high electricity consumption. These are also cosmetic measures, but miners are afraid.

Levana Protocol, a platform known for its blockchain-based perpetual futures swap protocol, has fallen victim to a devastating crypto hack.
The exploit led to the loss of more than $1 million worth of cryptocurrency tokens from Levana's liquidity pools. This incident highlights the growing challenges blockchain platforms face in ensuring the security of user funds and the need for robust security measures.

843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Weird high temp RX470 Armor on: January 03, 2024, 02:20:06 PM

yes might be liquid inside copper pipe leaked, but i dont think cause to much for rx 470 card which is low power gpu, might be some bent in mounting and die not connecting evenly in heatsink
this happen on many vegas gpu. trying to replace with new heatsink to costly for gpu already fall in price

In my case it was a RX580, but same series basically.

I did notice on this particular model (MSI Armor) that when you take the heat sink off the GPU, on the backside there is a small copper tube inset in the block with the two aluminum tubes connected one each end. I wonder if this is why this particular brand/model leaks more. I have other similar GPUs from that era that have a similar design that use solid aluminum throughout with the piping (tubes) all being one piece instead of two.

Anyway, I assume that what ever fluid they use inside these tubes, or heat pipes, boiled away over time and now they are just empty tubes of air acting more like an insulator than a conductor of heat. All that is left is the direct metal contact of the remaining portion of the heat sink which will transfer some but not all of the heat away.
MSI Armor is a reliable video card in terms of elements, but it has very poor fans and cooling radiator. If there is overheating, it is usually due to gas escaping from the radiator tubes.
On the secondary market, these radiators are bad and they cost 80% or more of the cost of the used video card.  My video cards mine the Kawpow algorithm with a temperature of 90 degrees with a bad heatsink and they are still alive.
844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Just inherited 100 RX 470 8GB cards and may have access to free electricity. on: January 03, 2024, 02:13:33 PM
Thanks everyone for the replies.
It looks like DNX is the best one to mine a the moment. Spent the week/weekend setting up the cards and have 90 online as of right now, the last 10 seem to be duds or non functional. lets see where this goes.
10 percent of non-working video cards is still normal. Check the fuses on these video cards, but just don't test them on good mining motherboards to avoid blowing them. Just first watch the video on YouTube on how to do it correctly. Perhaps you can repair a couple more video cards.
I have it reduced down to 5 cards being duds due to the GPU's pcie bus being burnt to a crisp. I have purchased 10 more BC-160 cards from aliexpress for around 130 USD each to replace the broken cards and theyre running great.
Need more video cards.  Smiley LOL
The Kawpow algorithm will be good for AMD video cards for a long time. On Nvidia video cards it is not always profitable.
AMD BC-160 are more reliable due to turbines instead of coolers. But cheap video cards also take up a lot of space, but the payback of $130 in 9 months is good.

847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AIPG mining on: January 03, 2024, 01:52:57 PM
Poll: AIPG Hyper-Halvening Proposal.

$AIPG Community, we're contemplating a bold tokenomics alteration - introducing a "Hyper-Halvening" schedule. This would mean more frequent halving events in the short term for robust initial distribution.

If you're not already in discord, then please join https://discord.gg/vZ9XrTSRYr and check the latest #announcement that goes over voting on the new proposed halving schedule. We want our community's feedback so please go and vote! More information on the proposed halvening below:

Hyper-Halvening Breakdown:
First Halvening: Block reward drops to 250 AIPG, starting around Feb 17th 2024.

Following Halvenings: We'll then reduce the block reward by 50% every 100,000 blocks there-after, approximately every 70 days, until the final 'hyper-halvening' will occur somewhere on or around Dec 15 2024.

Time Between Events:: With a 1-minute block time, each hyper-halvening will occur after approximately 70 days, with the first one occurring on approximately Feb 17th 2024 and the final on Dec 15th 2024.

Post Hyper-Halvenings:
After these four 'hyper-halvening' events, we will transition to a mature phase with a broader ecosystem. At this point, AI workloads will be actively transacted with AIPG, and in 2025 we'll slow down the emissions considerably until we reach a total max supply of 200 million AIPG.  This will introduce 50% of AIPG's total supply into circulation within the first year, almost 100 million coins, and then slowing the distribution rate over time thereafter.

This will ensure a balanced, sustainable growth, keeping the network secure while rewarding those contributing with AI workloads.

850  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: History of garage mining in Russia on: January 03, 2024, 01:44:34 PM
The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia has calculated new electricity tariffs from July 24 = from 6.73 rubles to 7.33 rubles in Moscow. 1 dollar costs 91 rubles.
https://rg.ru/2023/11/21/svet-v-koridore.html
In Moscow, with such tariffs, it will soon be unprofitable to mine coins at home because tariffs for business are even cheaper due to the large volume of consumption. But in other regions of Russia, prices for individuals are several times cheaper.

857  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] GekkoScience Terminus R909 home miner on: December 29, 2023, 05:19:48 PM
Are you trying to win the solo Bitcoin mining lottery using this mining?
For this price there are good video cards with the same power consumption and they have a better chance of paying for themselves in a few years. And with this miner in solo mining you can lose 599 euros and the cost of electricity
858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: karlsencoin(KLS) mining on: December 29, 2023, 05:14:07 PM
i wouldnt expect karl would hold ton of gpu miner, its just passing by and gone in couple weeks/months. miners need some real big cap coin to handle million gpus out there which is almost imposible this day
only bullrun a real answer for gpu miner. Cheesy
The number of mined coins does not depend on the number of miners, but now not a single coin can give a million miners a good profit. But the project team does not want ASICs to work in mining, and therefore some video cards will remain to mine this coin.
859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD BC-250 on: December 29, 2023, 05:06:58 PM
ps5 gpu quite fast is between 6650 - 6700 xt, while gpu bandwith much higher than 6700 xt. the cpu is around ryzen 2/3600 series. this is costing 13500 eur which absolute joke lol
you can get 200$ x 12 = 2400 for 6700 xt 2nd, and 3000$ for full setup  Cheesy. dunno what asrock thinking here lol
The first option is a technique for collectors, although the price is very expensive and the return on investment in mining is questionable.
But I also see similar advertisements for old mining farms, which cost 3-5 times more than buying individual elements. Maybe someone is waiting for a fool who doesn’t understand mining to buy it.
860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MiningRigRentals ASIC rental on: December 29, 2023, 05:00:03 PM
buying asic miner in local store would cost higher than importing but its safer bet and cut times instead waiting you can mine right away,
at this point asic better than gpu mining and more stable for long term mining, except it will become brick after couple years instead selling gpu to gamer  Cheesy
I'm not sure that ASIC is better than a video card, at least for several reasons. All ASICs are noisy, and there are very few models for home use, but these models are mainly for altcoins.
In a house or apartment you will not be able to have noisy ASICs and install a lot of them due to the high electricity consumption.
