It encourages people to hoard their money and is not a good thing and this isn't even debatable it is one of those cold hard facts that guy with the issues was talking about.

Sounds more like butthurt that you didn't get some coins earlier to spend on nifty electronics now Cheesy

I want to buy just to shut mosper up at this point  Grin    Oh noes! people will not buy with deflationary coin. agghhhh! the sky is falling.  I'll be putting in an order near the end of the month. I'm saving for something I've wanted there for a long time. Deflationary money is so much better for saving for what you want instead of borrowing for what you want. It teaches discipline and will lead to greater wealth and security over time. That's a good thing.
843  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do the Banks manipulate Bitcoin? on: March 16, 2013, 12:30:26 PM
bitcoin makes it possible to support (or not) the gang of your choice. Your vote doesn't matter...your dollar does.
844  Economy / Speculation / Re: SELL HALF THE BITCOINZ! on: March 16, 2013, 08:28:39 AM
Who else doesn't want a chance to pick up some cheap coins with dirty old fiat?  Grin

I think this is the best option to buy 2 SCs. The sooner the better. Poll?

What should poll choices be? Maybe
  • 2 BFL SCs
  • 2 Avalon Batch 2
  • hold savings for future poll

I'm not aware of any other choices that are currently possible. It seems like holding a portion of btc even if some is spent now on new hardware would be wise to take advantage of any surprise opportunities and to hedge against BTC value increase.
846  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do the Banks manipulate Bitcoin? on: March 15, 2013, 11:38:15 AM
Bitcoin is going to pwn the banks. It will be funny.

edit- OP... I am in a similar savings (hoarding is for liberals!) situation as you in holding pre-bubble '11 coins.  I invested only what I can afford to lose but bitcoin fucking rocks and it is money worth saving. Thank you every one who participates...you are changing the world for the better.
847  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING on: March 14, 2013, 05:02:39 AM
How long is the current Nastyfans poll open for? Is there a clear policy yet for how retained coins will be spent on new hardware as far as further preorders go?

Closed and reopened...message gone. Thanks!  Will upgrade to 0.8 as soon as this temporary bout of laziness is over Cheesy
849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / EXCEPTION:11DbException on v. 0.6.3 on: March 13, 2013, 07:01:32 AM
Db::get: cannot allocate memory bitcoin in ProcessMessages()

I noticed it on or around the time of the fork and figured it was related. How to fix this?
850  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do with my 600 or so coins?!? on: March 09, 2013, 08:12:45 AM
Practise a random act of selfless beauty and write off the debt your friend owes you?

I was wondering when someone was going to mention that. The guy pays in bitcoin and they triple in value...cut the friend some slack for sure or become Mr. Burns incarnate.

I would sell the amount required to pay in full the debt of your friend and obliterate that debt. Hoard the remaining coins and forget about it for the next 5 years.

This!
851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPU brute forcing an encrypted wallet on: March 09, 2013, 07:59:45 AM
You realize if you are successful you could brute force ANY BTC wallet whether you had legitimate claim to it or not.

In other words, bitcoin would be essentially dead, since you could take from any arbitrary wallet.  You would start with the biggest ones, of course, and eventually word would get out, and bitcoin would be officially dead.

So far, since the 2009 release of the bitcoin protocol, nobody has hacked an arbitrary wallet.  This is presumably not for lack of trying.

I would, to quote Justin Bieber, "Never say never," but if you want a way to open a wallet, you might be brute forcing for a long, long time.

Maybe you are confusing cracking the user password for the wallet with cracking a private key? A wallet password would crack easier or harder depending on what the password was.

855  Economy / Speculation / Re: Silver at 29 ,Bitcoin at 30. this is no-brainer.. on: February 25, 2013, 05:15:29 PM
Silver is great, I own some myself, but damn is it heavy! A million dollars in silver weighs over 1 ton!

857  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive Resurrected on [BTC-TC] on: February 21, 2013, 07:05:47 AM
Avalon is shipping and we need to get on board.

After the current motions pass on Friday, I'm planning on raising two more:

1) As requested by a shareholder, a motion that lets me spend Cognitive's funds on mining hardware freely. I will, of course, continue to operate in Cognitive's best interest as I have with funds in the past. The main advantage is not having to wait two weeks for a motion to pass, because sometimes ASIC ordering windows are much shorter than that!

2) The sale of "Contracts for Delivery", meaning the sale of an asset in order to purchase mining hardware that will mature into a Cognitive share when said hardware arrives and is hashing. These would be competitively priced, to encourage investments, and would be sold in bulk only. I think 100 for BTC22 would be an extremely good deal for investors, as Cognitive shares trade for 0.3+.

As always, suggestions are appreciated.

Best,
Garrett

So someone just sold their cognitive shares at prices above .23 BTC. Maybe I am assuming too much but is it because now they are looking at a better deal on your contracts for delivery?
858  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-12 Could Amazons New Currency... on: February 13, 2013, 09:20:38 AM
The fact that it's value is tied to FRN makes it essentially just a FRN with greatly limited acceptance and some possible slight advantages regarding on line transfer. YAWN. Where's the BEEF?
859  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When difficulty goes up 30 times, caused by ASICs, will you still mine GPU? on: February 05, 2013, 02:01:49 AM
If power is free and nothing else is more profitable then why not?
