As I flip through the pages of the currency exchange forum I see requests to buy and sell using PayPal left and right. Quite frankly, the whole thing confuses me. At one point it seemed like we were slowly moving away from being so PayPal dependent. But lately there seems to be a spike in the usage of PayPal for bitcoin-related transactions. Or at least a spike in requests to use PayPal.
Then there is eBay, which is probably a lesser factor, but still relevant because the two businesses are joined at the hip. Of course on eBay there are sellers attempting to make quick profits selling BTC (and other coins) at a considerable markup. Mining equipment is also popular. I have no issue with either of these. In fact, I sold coins via eBay back when I didn't know better.
My question to the community is: What affect do you think these two enitities have on our beloved Bitcoin? Do you feel they have a positive impact due to the visibility of eBay auctions and the ease of using PayPal? Or do you feel they have a negative impact due to the fact neither of the services want anything to do with our community and the ever-present threat of chargebacks and reversals?
Comment on any and every way they affect Bitcoin (popularity, price etc.). If you are a PayPal/eBay hater, feel free to hate. If you love them and think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, come in here and say that. I simply want the pulse of the community.

Pay Pal are nothing better than thieves. They will randomly lock accounts. Supposedly "refund" money that has been in your account for months.
They will not communicate. You can only write within your account, you receive automated emails back that do not relate to what you have written.
If you phone, you get blatant lies told to you. Each call is finished by them telling you they will sort the problem if you get off the phone and that they will email you the resolve within an hour.
The email will come and it tells you exactly what you already know. Your account is FOREVER locked !
THIS IS WHY YOU COULD BUY 1 BITCOIN FOR $10 6 MONTHS AGO AND TODAY YOU NEED $120 TO GET ONE SINGLE COIN.
Wake up. It's YOUR MONEY !!!!!
Bingo. Great post couldn't agree more.

I am online all day today.
Looking to buy between $300-$400 worth of Bitcoins.
I will put cash into your bank account. If I am buying all from onw person I can even load a MoneyPak with cash for you.
|
|
|
I will send you 0.3 BTC for it.
are you stupid? Your title said offer me and it is yours. At the time I posted you had zero offers posted, so my offer (while it was low) was visibly the best thing you had. Now you can come in here and say someone is willing to pay 1.2 BTC for it and that's cool. Make your money, but don't ask me if I am stupid for actually doing what your original post directed me to do.

I will send you 0.3 BTC for it.

Also I forgot to add...
I am willing to buy smaller amounts until I reach my spending limit. For example, if you only have 1 BTC you are looking to sell, I will buy that from you. I will trade with multiple people until I reach my spending limit.
So come on and sell me your BTC! This is clearly the easiest and most convenient way to cash out. You don't even have to leave your computer.

Can we please stop using PayPal?
I just hate reading stories of people getting their funds locked up. And when did they add that caveat to their TOS about mining hardware? I read their TOS a few months back and it said nothing of the sort.
Anyway lets move away from PayPal and their bs. We have perfectly good alternatives like BTC, LTC and different e-currencies.
