841  Other / Meta / Re: 3 Years Ago I Lost 5 BTCs from a Scam Sent From BitcoinTalk.org Official Email on: October 07, 2019, 05:46:24 AM
True story,

In 2017 I was running my bitcoin blog; one of the first blogs created in the space, when someone contacted me from an official BitcoinTalk.org. They asked for 5 BTCs to post a banner ad on BT. Seeing that the email was coming from an official BT address, I sent them 5 BTCs.

Two weeks later after not hearing from anyone, I received a message from BitcoinTalk.org saying their email was hacked and the ad offer was from a scammer.

5 Bitcoins today = $40,000 USD. I really miss it. I wish BitcoinTalk.org would at least say sorry.

Official bitcointalk.org accounts could be hacked as accounts here could also be hacked. If an exchange wallet could be victimized, how much more an email address? So the best thing to do is to never give any amount of BTC to anyone, even if it comes from Satoshi Nakamoto. If someone suddenly PMed me using theymos's account asking for 5 BTC, I will not give him that. Legitimate business deals do not happen that way.
842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why not advance as a bounty hunter? on: October 07, 2019, 05:16:21 AM
Some people have been bounty hunters for a long time (e.g, for the past 2 or3 years) and till now, they are still on the act of hunting for more altcoins.
It is true that the reward hunters now get is so small compared to what was obtainable 2 to 3 years ago and not only that, it now takes more time to be paid than it was. So, instead of complaining, why not through some of the experience you have got, since your sojourn in the crypto space, explore other means through which you can earn more and fill your portfolio.

N.B:
This might be like  a vital information. There are lots of projects that did bounty campaigns (although not all), which have decided to extent the time of payment of tokens to their bounty participants. Whose tokens are growing tremendously after listing on exchange. Which means that traders and investors of projects like these get their profits before bounty hunters are paid.

DISCLAIMER:: Although, this is not an investment advice, but an observation, which i have decided to call your attention to.

Well, it is always an available option. But then it is one thing to invest, whether during the ICO/IEO period or during the time when the coin is already listed on exchanges, and it is another to just work for it. Investing in a coin is risky and you also need to have the money for it. Joining bounty campaigns on the other hand does not cost you anything except the effort given to fulfill some tasks and a little more for the payment waiting. But that is all. There is not much risk and money needed. That is the easier choice of course.
843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Future of Altcoins ? on: October 07, 2019, 04:50:33 AM
As the market becomes more saturated more users are turning towards the top two crypto coins and those who had already invested into other altcoins have starting shifting their funds towards Bitcoin and Ethereum as other altcoins have failed to capitalize the market. If this continues then how will altcoin survive? is it just the matter of time or something which altcoins need to work on by working on the missing link.

The survival of the altcoin world is more individual rather than group. There is actually no danger to the whole altcoin world. The danger is found in each and every altcoin depending on how they are developing. Ethereum is not facing the dangers that Trumpcoin is facing. In the same way that Litecoin is not experiencing the problems currently experienced by Boobscoin. These shitcoins will die. Well, many of them died already. The ones that will remain are those that have actual use and product.
844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BAT Price Prediction 2019–2020 on: October 07, 2019, 04:22:35 AM
like every other over pumped centralized token out there, BAT is also going to have a lot of harder times ahead of itself since the token days are over and every newbie has been pulling out to go to the new shitcoins on the block.

on top of all that, with all the drama that has been circulating this company and all the KYC they have been forcing on their users and also because their Brave client has nearly turned into garbage i don't see anything "bullish" on the horizons.

the only way they could get their price up is if the company decided to part with some of their millions and pour it into pumping this token.

This is wrong. This will only bring BAT to a much lower position and quality. It is all right to give this advice to shitcoins and pump and dump coins, not to BAT definitely. BAT is a top quality project, with a working product, and consistently ranked in the top 50.

AFAIK, the project is decentralized and open-source. Brave cannot compete much with the likes of Google Chrome but it is definitely a good alternative. Ads are reduced to the minimum is already a breather compared to the ads-pestered pages in Chrome.
845  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: INFOGRAPHIC: Crypto Trading Terms Beginners (& Even Veterans) Should Know on: October 07, 2019, 03:41:22 AM
Great infographic!

But I think bear and bull are not "someone". I prefer them as market sentiments or market seasons in which prices are rising or falling. They are basically part of the cycle of financial markets, whether it is crypto, stocks, or forex.

Some terms should be added. HODL, FUD, moon, and rekt have been suggested already. They are also trading terms. I also suggest FOMO. That is also one of the terms used by traders when there is panic buying out of the fear that they might miss the ride.
846  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another PONZI scheme money frozen in bank account revealed on: October 07, 2019, 03:09:55 AM
Cryptographic money worth $1.2 million that was seized from a Ponzi plot by Indian police can't be gotten to and came back to dazed financial specialists since Indian financial laws deny the treatment of virtual monetary forms.

Linke to full news
https://www.cryptoglobe.com/latest/2019/10/seized-ponzi-funds-remain-stuck-in-frozen-indian-bank-account/?amp=yes

Wait a minute, so what will happen now to that big amount? Will the Indian Police just seize them and leave them for nothing simply because there is no law that supports it? What about the people who are victims of that ponzi?

The US and other governments have also seized Bitcoin and other cryptos in the past and they ended up auctioning them off to compensate the victims. And if I am not mistaken there is also no explicit law in the US supporting Bitcoin. I hope the Indian government can find a way to dispose them and pay the victims accordingly.
847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Binance delisting trading pairs on: October 06, 2019, 01:11:49 PM
Here we go again, binance exchange decided to delist 30 different types of trading pairs on its platform and six of those trading pairs involve tokens launched on Binance Launchpad Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) platform, namely BitTorrent, Elrond, Harmony and WINk.
The trading pairs are mostly TUSD and USDC pairs and Binance claimed that the pairs were being removed to improve liquidity and user trading experience and that the choice of trading pairs was as requested by most project teams.

Why would the project teams want such? what am i missing here? anyone?
Read the full news through the link below
https://cointelegraph.com/news/binance-delists-trading-pairs-some-include-tokens-from-its-launchpad/amp

TUSD and USDC are not as popular as USDT. This is probably the reason why trading pairs with these stablecoins have very low volumes and are finally taken out of trading one after another. Last time, there was also a batch of delisted trading pairs with a long list of pairs even including BTC and ETH. But the coins listed in the OP are rather new so there is also the factor that they have yet to attract many traders.
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Libra left alone by a big payment processor on: October 06, 2019, 12:51:40 PM
PayPal has pulled their guns out of the Libra project according to CoinTelegraph. Do you guys think Libra is going to be a big fail of Facebook? Would you actually use a Facebook based coin to make payments at businesses and friends taking into account the previous press scandals like Cambridge Analytica?

It is not only PayPal that has suddenly decided to get out of the Libra project. Visa as well as Mastercard have also decided to leave the Facebook-initiated project. And there may also be others that are thinking twice right now, after giving their commitment to the project. There is something fishy all over these decisions. These decisions were made after all the hearings, meetings, and discussions initiated by the government were conducted regarding the project. It is even safe to say that these are not truly independent decisions.
849  Economy / Economics / Re: Europe is against Libra. Who else? on: October 06, 2019, 11:31:01 AM
I don't think that anyone is really against Libra in its essence but there are so many open questions that Euopean Union wants to clarify and that is completely legit.
And that isn't connected with Libra only but Facebook as a company and some of their actions. Of course there is some politics in it also so having in mind China- US relations is pretty much obvious that China will not support it.
Anyway, as I supposed it will be not easy for Libra at all, things are not going smooth as they expected and this is the story that will not have happy end.

Libra actually appears a very promising project. The strong factor why a lot of countries are against it is that Libra is a concept of Facebook. That makes everything look different. If Libra were a project started by some other group of rich companies without the participation of Facebook, it would probably have received less strong opposition as it has right now. Facebook's reputation about handling personal data of their several millions of users is pulling Libra down. Add to this the fear of the governments that their fiat currencies might get a little displaced because of how big this project is, and you will have Libra probably extending its launching date to a much later one.
850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: demands on Ethereum on: October 06, 2019, 10:59:20 AM
I don't think that is good news that can make the price of ETH will rise, because even though all Muslims buy Ethereum coins but the price of ETH will not increase, only a few Muslim users understand the world of Crypto so that only a few people understand about Ethereum.
Because Muslims have a lot of money. Perhaps an additional 5 billion dollars will pour into Ethereum. This sum can raise the price of Ethereum several times. We need to hope for a wider user base.
This is not about a lot of money or not from a particular religion, and about the news it will be very possible to attract more large investors from various circles or individuals more broadly. But indeed, with positive news alone it is still not enough for crypto and in this case ethereum to increase its price in the near future, because to make a large increase requires at least a long time and process of many factors until finally the bullish trend occurs.

Well, I hope the very rich muslims are interested to invest in crypto. But it is going to be very hard to convince them. Crypto is very volatile. Ethereum is not a special coin so it is as volatile as the rest. This is a downside and certainly discouraging to them. These very rich muslims are usually building up their massive wealth from their oil business. And compared to crypto, the prices of oil do not just plunge in a matter of hours and very sudden. Crypto is riskier than probably most of their businesses, so this declaration do not necessarily mean a spike in ETH prices. It may bring good though in the long run when crypto is more mainstream than today.
851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LOSS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY TO HACKING INTENSIFIES on: October 06, 2019, 10:29:32 AM
Do you know why this will not be put to stop once and for all? Because, I suspect, many of these hacks do not totally come from the outside. There might be someone or some persons involved in many of these hacking incidents that are working from the inside. Of course this is just a suspicion but I think many share this suspicion of mine. A thorough investigation should be conducted with each of these incidents because these projects and exchanges are not losing their own money but the money of their investors and clients. Due punishment should be imposed.
852  Economy / Economics / Re: Don't spend bitcoin. Not now. on: October 06, 2019, 09:32:17 AM
I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. I want Bitcoin to become a currency more than an speculative asset. It is when Bitcoin becomes used as a currency that it truly fulfills its goal.

You may actually be right or wrong. I cannot say that because I have not studied in details the history of money. What I know for sure is that people were not ignorant when the modern world started using physical money. I think the majority did not know that it is not backed up by gold anymore but they don't care. What they probably had comfortable with in using it was the assurance from the government that the money they are using are under direct control and regulation of their government.
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How the regular day of bull run Will look like? What about bakkt? on: October 06, 2019, 09:04:32 AM
On my own view, we cant see the same movement that happened on year 2017 where pumps or price increase rally is too fast.I do rather prefer on having
this bumpy road of high and lows rather than on a spike.

About Bakkt? You can read up some good info on here https://www.coindesk.com/its-too-soon-to-write-off-bakkt-wall-street-analyst-tells-ice-investors
Fast spike is usually not very good for nay coin, because that will only attract the bears on time and at the same time. We have the presence of bears in the market which we cannot dispute and they will always be here, but if the price of any coin grows gradually, the bears will only be coming and exiting one after the other which will always give chance for prices to level up, but when there is a sharp increase, all bears would want to quickly exit the market and this will lead to terrible drop in price of any coin.

I normally would prefer a coin that is growing slowly and steady than a coin that will pump so fast which will eventually be a victim of dump. The way bitcoin is growing now is a little bit healthier for us than that 2017 when there was a high spike which made it drop on time.

There is no single coin whose price moves at a consistent pace. That will only be possible if there are no external influences that could affect its price. Otherwise, there will always be small and big spikes every now and then. There will be sliding down as well as soaring really high. There are times when it looks like it is just hovering over a certain price and there will also be very sudden price drops. What I mean is that factors such as news and development updates as well as their timing could change everything in a matter of seconds.
854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Bullish trend on: October 06, 2019, 03:39:10 AM
I am looking at the chart of Ethereum at this very minute. And it appears red. So the bulls are not here. And there seems to be no trend showing that either. Well, Bitcoin and most of the altcoins are also in red, although with very small percentage. ETH has currently a 0.55% decrease in price. That is not something to be bothered about. It could go either way in the next hour or two. ETH needs to break $200, to get out of this $100 limit and appear bullish.
855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fee-less cryptocurrencies...Are they the future? on: October 06, 2019, 03:08:58 AM
Obviously, we wanted to see this kind of crypto, absolutely 0 fees. However, we all know that this is a business and in order to survived, developers or the people behind a certain project will have some form on incentives, so I doubt that it will be the future. They can to get some kind of money for maintenance otherwise it will simply die. And for those coins, that don't have fees today, might include in the future. Maybe this is just marketing ploy for them to attract user based but eventually fees are going to be introduced, IMHO.
You are right. This is a big business empire. We use services, so naturally, we are charged. Moreover, the fees charged are returned to us as users, we will get appropriate services according to the fees set. What does it mean if it's free but the service doesn't match expectations?

I don't know if its possible. Perhaps they are not fee-dependent in their operations. There might be some other sources of income. But they could actually reduce fees to the minimum to be more realistic about it. A very low fee is actually more than enough to support their operation for as long as there are many users. That is in fact what the Lightning Network brings, very small to zero amount of fees.
856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Line messenger to invest in crypto on: October 06, 2019, 02:59:24 AM
The popular japanese messenger Line has decided to team up with two other companies and made a capital alliance agreement. The companies would create a fund which would invest on cryptocurrencies. One of the company in the agreement, Nomura holdings has already invested $14m in coinbase backed token.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/japanese-messenger-line-nomura-holdings-form-blockchain-alliance

I really love how the Japanese are treating cryptocurrency. The government is welcoming. The people are avid supporters. The companies are getting into it. Crypto exchanges there are properly regulated. As a matter of fact, Japan is considered the largest market for Bitcoin (https://complyadvantage.com/knowledgebase/crypto-regulations/cryptocurrency-regulations-japan/).

This is not the first time that Line goes into a crypto partnership. And they have also reached this agreement much earlier. Everything looks properly planned and executed. The country and the people of Japan are really one of a kind.
857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Popularity of BITCOIN on Twitter Declining? on: October 06, 2019, 02:27:49 AM
I guess it has something to do with people hyped up during the bull run and make a lot of tweets relating to Bitcoin. Needless to say, during seasons when Bitcoin is not that performing great, people do not talk much about it. That's what I can see in the graph. When the price of BTC rallies, there are also people who are not familiar with Bitcoin suddenly becomes curious. They do not feel that curiosity when there is nothing so special about BTC's movement.

Bounties and bounty hunters have nothing to do with it. Around 99% of them tweets the project they are promoting and not really Bitcoin.
858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can't survive alone on: October 05, 2019, 05:09:09 PM
Over 850 millions of people use alipay as means of payment mostly in china and i heard lots about wepay as well, i come to think of it that what if bitcoin was been used in their places instead? if alipay and wepay can get to where they are today then altcoins have all the chances of survival as well. Wepay and Alipay are just online payment solution, crypto can do better.

Real use cases plus real life working products, let these two be your main focus when picking altcoins to invest your money on, do not listen to those saying 'dump altcoins for bitcoin' when you are holding solid altcoins

Do not count me as a Bitcoin maximalist. My portfolio has a lot of altcoins that are not just there because I received them but because I intentionally bought them. Altcoins are not enemies of Bitcoin. Altcoins are supporters of Bitcoin in other words. They are actually helping Bitcoin in some ways. But I don't think that Bitcoin needs altcoins. If there are no altcoins today, it does not follow that Bitcoin have long died. Or if all the altcoins will die in a year or two from now, it does not follow that Bitcoin will also die. Bitcoin is sufficient in itself. But it is certainly made stronger by altcoins.
859  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are we really investing in bitcoin? on: October 05, 2019, 04:45:21 PM
Is the service and profitability, even if bitcoin is highly volatile, are the only two reasons why bitcoin is attractive to investors? Any good opinions or answers? Thanks

The top reason really is not even two. There is only one reason why Bitcoin is being chased after. It is not because of what you call as service; it is obviously the profitability. It is true that others are buying Bitcoin to make use of it, but this group of Bitcoin investors are even less than one percent of the total population of Bitcoin community. The remaining 99% are buying Bitcoin because they believe that their hopes of getting rich, of making big profit, is in Bitcoin.
860  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think majority of the people heard or read Bitcoin one time or another on: October 05, 2019, 04:14:02 PM
Bitcoin has come along way we have seen massive adoption and so many videos, news, and articles about websites and many people have invested and are now using Bitcoin do you think after ten years majority of people around the world have heard or read Bitcoin one time or another?

Not yet the majority. I think less than half of the world's population have heard or read or come across Bitcoin. Bitcoin may sound very popular to us and to those people who are living in more or less modern countries even if underdeveloped but it is because we have access to television and the internet and other electronic technologies. Other who don't have access to those modern equipment cannot encounter Bitcoin easily.
