I don't know for sure, but i suspect that difficulty numbers are powers of 2, except for 1, ie 1, 2, 4, 8, 16... 5 is probably 4 in actuality. But I could be wrong, this is just a guess on my part. I'm sure someone who actually knows will correct me if i'm wrong. I get corrected a lot... ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) No. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) 65750060 for example is no power of 2. Besides, 1 is a power of 2, its 2^0. You are saying that current "Difficulty" is the same as pool difficulty? I guess i can see this, but then we are returning a lot of unusable numbers as proof of work.

I apologize upfront if there has been lots of discussion on this. I am looking to get into Bitcoin mining and want some suggestions on what pool I should join. If you like the pool you are with, I'd very much like to hear about your experiences. I'm not thinking ill make a ton of coins - but I'd like to mine a few. I'm not opposed to a pool with a fee - quite the opposite, actually, as that guarantees funds for a stable pool to keep things running. Your ideas/feedback are appreciated! Thanks! The Extreme ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif) BTCguild is the biggest and probably the best supported. It is also easy to use. Personally, i like Slush Pool. I think i read that it was the first pool. But if you are one of those people who have to understand every block payout, you'll probably find Slush confusing and be frustrated. If you trust the computer to do what computers do best, Slush is fine. These are the only two i have experience with.

A few days ago I changed my difficulty settings up to 5 for several of my miners, after changing it back to 1 the next day my Stratum proxy still shows the difficulty of 5.
I have tried the usual miner and proxy restarts several times.
Any ideas anyone? Need to set the difficulty back to 1 for my slower miners.
Thanks.

You're not poor for shit...you should change your signature and mine more alt...and you should cancel up a few of your orders with BFL and move that equivalent money into the exchange...Hold ltc and wait for it to hit .2 btc - you will definitely win for sure. Right now you're pissing away money for the illlusion of ROI with a so-called high hashrate. I could be just spreading FUD for some people...but I believe that I am correct on this one with your circumstances.
"Alms for the Poor." is a quote from somewhere, Some play perhaps. It wasn't meant to be serious, but humorous. I could change it to "Standard begging phrase goes here" if you like. I've never received anything via that number and don't expect to.

Thanks to Niko and his team for developing a nice web interface for the rPi controller. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmegabigpower.com%2Fimages%2FpiServer.PNG&t=663&c=BX4dkslYAQ3gaw) also he put up the chainminer code on a github: https://github.com/bfsb/chainminerI'd love to see some community effort around improving both the piWeb front end, stratum failover options & chainminer itself... I guess we can "Bank" on this. LOL! Hahahahaha, I kill me! heh.

Is there a reason not to use a cat5e cable? or is this just your preference. People express their preference but not any actual, technical reasons of why not, which is what you are asking. I'd definitely do wireless since I know people that have mined wirelessly without any issues. It's not a bandwidth-intensive task at all. Actually, i was just checking to make sure that there wasn't a technical issue that i missed.

My Name is Trong Trongersoll and I am a Bitcoin mining addict.
I started in May 2013 with a small, low power computer and a 5000 series ATI Video card. actually, i started with the GPU on the mother board which was doing 10 Mh/s. Since the MB had a PCIe slot, I upgraded to the ATI card. I got about 80 Mh/s out of it. I added a couple of ASICminer Block Erupters. That was the beginning of my downfall. After about a week or two I saw my Bitcoin income declining due to increased Hashrate. That was the begining of the Arms race for me. That little computer now has 24 erupters and the gpu mining.
But it doesn't stop there. Just be Erupters became available i picked up a 7970 GPU and a 7950 GPU. It was the worse possible timing. I planned on running these both on a computer built just for this purpose. Well, they wouldn't play nice together so the 7950 go put aside. Now I had a new computer not doing much. so this became my second Erupter host. It currently has about 29 erupters on it. And the number is growing. I can't seem to stop buying these things. Everytime there is a price drop or my Bitcoin production drops noticeably i buy more.
Then there are the blades. I bought one about a week ago for way too much by todays prices. It is still in it's wrapping. I got the stratum proxy up yesterday, but haven't succeeded in making it have a fixed IP. That isn't real important. i can just change the IP the blade looks at if it changes. Part of the reason the blade isn't running is that i've mulling over how to physically support it. also the room it will be in is a bit cluttered at the moment. I decided i'd cut up a cardboard box and put fans in that as a support for the blade. Just haven't felt up to doing it, I'm slightly handicapped so i really need to feel up to it to do somethngs. And then, today there was the price drop on blades... so of course i had to buy a second even though i don't have the first running yet. With two, and the likely hood is that more will be acquired, cardboard boxes wouldn't suffice. Today i ordered a big box of Legos. I figure that i can build some sort of multiblade rack with them. I'm not real handy, so PVC pipe racks are out.
I also have the Bitfury starter kit on order and a couple of miners from BFL on order that i don't want to talk about. The thing is, i can't seem to stop myself. The Arms race is killing me. I don't even wanna think about how much i've spent on this Hobby.
I am truely addicted to this thing called Bitcoin Mining...

Approx. cluster performance (30 min average): 43869.247 Ghash/s
blah!
need more asics now!
BTC Guild helps it self grow massively and quickly by selling ASICs. Maybe Slush could employ someone to do something similar? or you could buy from btcguild and use them here. That is what i do.

Dont' feel so bad. I've got 48 of these things and EVERY SINGLE ONE is black. They come in other colors ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif) ? Must be the Henry Ford School of Marketing. "You can get any color you want, as long as it is Black."

did they ever work out the credit card issues?

|

does the pool's hashrate increase during that period?

With just one Block Erupter USB it really doesn't matter. Just start your mining program, put a fan on the BE, minimize the program and forget about it.
I would probably solo mine with one device and check it once a year just for giggles.
Have Fun, Sam
Actually, I'm mining with just one on btcguild. It comes in handy for answering questions like "how much will I make with one of these?" i just look at the 24 hour earning number. Also, I payout every .05 BTC and use the time between payouts to calculate how long to earn 1 BTC. It is about 280 days at the moment. The numbers are rough because there is occasional down time, but i find it interesting just the same.

The latest round of block erupter inventory has arrived. Backorders will start getting cleared out tomorrow and be fully cleared by Thursday. An extension of ASICMINER's coupons will also be available for the remaining orders that were placed at 1.05 BTC last month. These coupons will be made available on Monday, and start shipping Tuesday [Monday is a holiday in the US so no mail will be moving].
These the new improved 'pink' versions ? ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Sadly, I've just finished unpacking everything...all black again ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) . I guess I'll have to delete my promotional ads for "Complete your set today" with a 10% premium on the new colors (/s). *sniff* *sniff* But, but, but I wanted Blue ones! ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif)

In pooled mining if your share goes down you get less reward? Just curious.
in a pool if the pool's hashrate goes up your share of the pool goes down. you get less. if the world hashrate goes up and your pool's doesn't then your pool will make less and so will you. Not quite. The only thing that really matters is: Your hashrate vs Network hash rate. Beyond that it is only variance, pool reliability, and pool fees. If the pool you're in is small relative to network hash rate, you'll have more variance (which can be good or bad). But your expected return is dictated by your percentage of the overall network speed. My bad, this all gets blury some times.

TL;DNR
Firstly, this is the Custom Hardware Forum, I envision seeing posts about people modding hardware, or developing their own. Once something is in production, it is no longer Custom.
Secondly, Manufacturers are not Hardware. I expect to see discussions about how the hardware works, or doesn't work. etc.
if there isn't already someplace to complain about manufacturers/resellers, make one?
Thirdly, i really hate seeing the same people saying effectively the same things in multiple threads. I'd pick one to leave open, make the last post in the others a reference to the open one and then lock them.
I think your definition of "custom" differs from the moderators. They mean hardware customized to mine bitcoin, as opposed to general purpose hardware with software to mine bitcoin on. you are probably right.
