8421  Other / Beginners & Help / {Beware}: Google accused of giving personal data to advertisers on: September 06, 2019, 05:25:25 AM

https://twitter.com/johnnyryan/status/1169341785241530369

Johnny Ryan the Chief policy officer of Brave Browser, and he accuses Google of:

Quote
Mr Ryan found that Google had labelled him with an identifying tracker that it fed to third-party companies that logged on to a hidden web page. The page showed no content but had a unique address that linked it to Mr Ryan’s browsing activity.

Using the tracker from Google, which is based on the user’s location and time of browsing, companies could match their profiles of Mr Ryan and his web-browsing behaviour with profiles from other companies, to target him with ads.

Mr Ryan found six separate pages pushing out his identifier after a single hour of looking at websites on Google’s Chrome browser. The identifier contained the phrase “google_push” and was sent to at least eight adtech companies.

“This practice is hidden in two ways: the most basic way is that Google creates a page that the user never sees, it’s blank, has no content, but allows ... third parties to snoop on the user and the user is none the wiser,” said Mr Ryan. “I had no idea this was happening. If I consulted my browser log, I wouldn’t have had an idea either.”

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/technology/google-accused-of-secretly-feeding-personal-data-to-advertisers-1.4007629

I'm pretty sure that we all suspected Google of doing this for many years, but this could be one of the first that a solid evidence is going to be presented to authorities. If we could somewhat stay away from the Big G then I suggest we do find ways to stop using it in my opinion.

8423  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [BEWARE] Sim Port Attack on: September 05, 2019, 11:00:35 PM
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently has his twitter account hacked via what appears to be a SIM port attack in which someone was able to send many racist tweets on his behalf.

The above is the only details released by Twitter, and it is possible there is more to the story. This does show that anyone can be a victim of these types of attacks.

I was about to post this info as well but you beat me to it. Anyways, you are right even the CEO of Twitter was hack and it could be this method as well so no one is really safe from this online criminals.

Quote
How did it happen?

A source at the company confirmed to the BBC that the hackers had used a technique known as "simswapping" (or "simjacking") in order to control Mr Dorsey's account.

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-49532244
The hacker apparently was able to tweet via sending text messages from the number in question, making compromising the number the only thing needed to access the twitter account.

In theory, hackers might be able to spoof the number text messages are from in order to send tweets, which might make SIM porting the number unnecessary.

Twitter temporarily disables 'Tweeting via SMS' after CEO gets hacked

Quote
Twitter today finally decided to temporarily disable a feature, called 'Tweeting via SMS,' after it was abused by a hacking group to compromise Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey last week and sent a series of racist and offensive tweets to Dorsey's followers.
Dorsey's Twitter account was compromised last week when a hacker group calling itself "Chuckling Squad" replicated a mobile phone number associated with the CEO account and abused this particular feature to post racist, offensive messages and bomb threats from it via SMS.

https://thehackernews.com/2019/09/tweet-via-sms-text-message-hacking.html

So it looks like they temporarily 'Tweeting via SMS", disable it after the Dorsey fiasco. Seems the least they can do right now to prevent such exploit in the future.

Lots of <insert your favorite mixing website here>.eu, .es has spawned in the last couple of months so I'm not surprised that people are still falling for this kind of tricks. Not everyone here is well educated and has knowledge about the demise of Bitblender and that's why those criminals are taking advantage of it despite the tumbling services is already out of the business already.
8425  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good news! Bitcoin Price Breaks $10K Barrier on: September 05, 2019, 08:58:45 PM
In last few months bitcoin price broke 10k several times, and drop under 10k several times. Just follow the trend and buy under 10k, sell over 10k and you will make a nice profit. It`s a free advice for making money in trading. You don`t need to be smart, you just need to be patient and wait for the dip to buy and after that to have patience and sell when the price breaks 10k again. Keep it simple and make profit.

Is that simple right? But you see people here are greedy, they wanted more profit that's why $10k is a big psychological barrier. When they see that the price goes below that line, they panic. And I think there are still people here who are in the learning phase, not that smart to say the least and still succumb to price dipping and seeing their portfolio going down makes them really nervous. But seeing the price like $10500 today? Lol, they are now very confident that the market will grow even more and not taking any profits.  Grin

Let their cut and paste of Bitmex's terms not be forgotten. Then again I think plenty of Bitmex was ripped off from elsewhere too.

https://twitter.com/CryptoHayes/status/1169121781149569024

It kind of makes you wonder what other corners they're cutting behind the scenes.

lol, good find. nothing surprising there. a lot of people overestimate CZ's scruples. he'll do anything if it means striking while the iron is hot and grabbing market share.

he was the king of fake volume pumping in his days as okcoin CTO and no doubt brought that expertise to binance. and when he decided to create binance, he publicly dragged okcoin and star xu through the mud with allegations of faked audits etc, which he used as a platform to build his own reputation. he fights dirty and isn't always acting on the up and up, that's for sure.

Lol, thank you for refreshing my memory about CZ, I guess he really learn a lot from that OKCoin experience that's why when he started Binance, he has the tools already, know what the customers what and the psychology behind it.

Just like what he is offering here, as if he is giving power to his customers to choose what they want. But at the end of the day, he is using his customers on his favour and yeah, he really know to strike while the iron is hot.
8427  Economy / Economics / Re: What's it like to live on crypto instead of Banks? on: September 05, 2019, 08:18:08 PM
I imagine living on crypto is hard. In my country, you cannot live without fiat. In fact, here you need paper fiat. You need to pay food vendors coins and paper currency because they don't have Point-of-Sale machines to accept credit/debit cards or even use their smartphones to accept payment.

I lived in a developing country and I would tend to agree that we can't still get out of the old monetary system here, yes people have credit cards but it's not for average Joe's here. People still line up in a grocery store ready with their fiat.

The whole world still have a long time to catch up.

How long do you think it will take though. I'm seeing around 5-10 years before we can see crypto being adopted, but still, people are not going to let go of fiat, just saying.

Whoever wins here might ask for Pacquiao's match. After all, most of the boxing fights are for money. And they are striking the iron while it is hot. Pacman is no doubt can attract a sizeable number of crowd to earn big money.

That's what we are hoping for,  we all know that still up to this day, Pacquaio remains the "sweepstakes" here. Those who fought Pacquaio can get their biggest pay check so far. However, I've seen comments saying that this is going to be a difficult and dangerous fight for Pacquaio if Spence Jr win this one. So let's just enjoy this fight first and speculate later on who are Pacquiao going to fight next. Giving some time before I put a bet here, I like the chance of Porter here,  Grin
8429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Vitalik Buterin is ‘Very Confident’ About Ethereum 2.0 Launching Phase on: September 05, 2019, 02:02:57 PM
Quote
As Buterin said, Ethereum 2.0 aims to run ‘tens of thousands of transactions per second’ and he is sure that the new network will facilitate a number of on-chain transactions while maintaining key aspects of decentralization and security.

At the beginning of next year, the launch of the initial phase of Ethereum 2.0 is taking place. On Tuesday, during the 80,000 hours podcast devoted to solving the most pressing problems in the world of cryptos, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin delivered a speech in which he commented on this event and shared his ambitious plans for Ethereum.

According to Buterin, he is ‘very confident’ about the launching phase of Ethereum 2.0, however, he is not sure about the incentives that make people use blockchain.

https://www.coinspeaker.com/buterin-ethereum-2-0-launching-phase/

Is this enough to say that we may see ETH 2.0 the catalyst for the this altcoin to finally break and have its own path in 2020 regardless of the so called bitcoin block halving?

We all know that there are competitions already that's why ETH is losing so much value in this market. But I think with this news we could very well see it relieving its former glory.

Do you agree?
8430  Economy / Speculation / Re: Strength of Bitcoin on: September 05, 2019, 11:36:42 AM
I think this is really what is important of all.
Quote
“Networks have “network effects.” Adding a new participant increases the value of the network for all existing participants.”

We are all trying to invest in. Who is using it for new participants to come in? Very low usage. It became one like gold by now instead of gold before which is being used on the streets as a currency to trade goods.
We really need the merchants. Push them to use bitcoin as an option for payment so that it could circulate and also be used by other people.
That way this will happen.
Quote
If the system can grow large enough, fast enough, it will become an unstoppable juggernaut, and the rest of the economic universe will need to come over to the new playing field.
I think you are right as much you elaborated but till now there are no good words that can be enough to show the importance of bitcoin. I know it is no one crypto which made good market name all around the world. The best investment now a day is bitcoin and it has become an unbeatable investment it's the most potencies investment.

Because it's sell-explanatory. I mean we have seen bitcoin grow in the last ten years or so. No one really talks about it until such time that we have it grown to $100-$19k last 2017. So many people are searching about bitcoin 2017-2019 because they know that it is the world best assets if you are going to look at it's performance in the last ten years. Decentralise could be one of the strengths and it could also be one of its drawback, just saying.

8432  Other / Beginners & Help / Firefox 69 Now Blocks 3rd-Party Tracking Cookies and Cryptominers By Default on: September 04, 2019, 11:49:25 AM
It looks like Firefox is doing a good service for crypto enthusiast around the world by blocking third party cookies and cryptominers by default:

Quote
Firefox Blocks Web-Based Cryptocurrency Miners
Third-party cookies are not the only one that one should worry about.
In the past years, web-based cryptocurrency miners have increasingly been abused by not just hackers but also websites and mobile apps to monetize by levying the CPU power of your PCs to secretly mine cryptocurrencies—often without your knowledge or consent.
In the wake of cryptocurrency mining scripts, both Apple and Google banned applications from listing in their app stores that mine cryptocurrencies on users' devices in the background.

Now, Firefox 69 also blocks web-based cryptocurrency miners by default, preventing draining your CPU usage and battery power on your computers.

This gives you the freedom to explore each product and its offerings ahead of the official Binance Futures launch. A total of 10,000 BNB will be given away to users who participate in testing both Futures Testnet Platforms. At the end of the competition period, the mainnet version of the platform  with the most votes will provide a 50% trading fee discount to its testnet voters for a full month.

Competition Period: 2019/09/03 00:00 AM - 2019/09/08 00:00 AM (UTC)

So Binance has created two stand alone versions of their future trading platforms, and obviously they wanted their customers to select which one they like best here. There is "Future A" and "Future B" scenario here and the winners getting 10,000 BNB.

Fight: Errol Spence Jr vs Shawn Porter
Venue: Las Vegas
Date: Sept 28

https://www.boxingscene.com/errol-spence-im-definitely-not-underestimating-shawn-porter--141281

Another good and very explosive fight before the end of the year. We may see the winner of this fight getting crack at Manny Pacquaio.

I personally pick Spence Jr here, tall very quick fast hands, good defense and of course. Shawn Porter is no push over though, but he will be having a hard time against a fighter with this caliber unless he rough up Spence early and frustrate him.

8435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Adoption Rate keeps getting better on: September 01, 2019, 06:52:18 AM
many new countries are supporting and even starting to take part in this market, they are very enthusiastic about crypto and I think the decision they made early on is very good because I am sure in the future the digital era will be more advanced and the crypto world will be growing rapidly.

It's definitely growing but the at the rate that we wanted to. I mean by this time we should have witnessed  online market accepting crypto but up to this point it looks like it will take years before we can see that. Although there are a lot of projects, companies and cooperations behind, it's not enough to push crypto to the masses, when I say that I mean average joe's around the world.
8436  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 on: September 01, 2019, 06:33:08 AM
How about Philippines against Italy? It is a one sided game with no chance for the Philippines to win. It is a devastating loss and even God's cannot help them out of this lump.

I wonder why Philippines in every game they don't have that stamina to bet foreign players. Is that because of races or because of being overtaken with bad expectations? In order for them to win, having proper training is a must.
Not just training but understand the differences of other top rank teams.

Once they have figured it out and analyzed what they lack to have toe to toe matches with those teams.

That should be included on what they have to improve.

The thing is the Philippines need better players. We terribly lack them. Our roster is really no match to the rosters of Italy, for example, and other higher ranked teams in FIBA. Our players cannot play toe to toe with other teams even if they have underwent the best of training.

Race is undeniably one very significant factor. We are generally smaller people. And considering that only a single naturalized player is allowed per game, every game is going to be a tough uphill battle.

You can really see the difference of playing style here as there are outclass from the beginning. I just turn off my tv when I saw the lead getting bigger. Although the Philippines really did their best, I guess it's not enough for this kind of high level basketball competition.

France vs Germany is an intriguing match, I'm sure it will be a close one, but I'm leaning of Germany here.
8437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lomachenko-Campbell Unification Fight on: September 01, 2019, 06:00:20 AM
Ok, so just as expected, it was an another great night for Loma. And for those who are expecting a upset, wasn't meant to be as Loma cruised to a lopsided victory an added another belt. He even ko Campbell in 11th but wasn't able to finished it off. Kudos to Campbell though and to the O2 fans, but Loma is just above the opposition today. He should move up in weight now and face much tougher fighter to prove how good elite he is.
