@btcltcdigger
Da otvoriš temu u Meti i pitaš u čemu je problem? Nekad se mod koji je obrisao postove javi i objasni šta je u pitanju a i mnogi članovi će uskočiti da ponude svoje mišljenje.

I am aware of what the information page says, but it's either incorrect/outdated or the same number of claims don't apply to all account levels. I created a throw-away account on Bitsler to check certain things in the past, so my account is of the lowest level possible. I didn't claim any coins before writing the previous post and I didn't claim any today, but still I only have 20 claims left. Let's see if someone from the Bitsler team offers some better insight.

Can't quite recall if it was you that posted that snapshot of CMC back around 2013 (can't recall the exact year) in comparison of the coins right now in CMC.
Good memory! Yes, that was me. It took me some time to find that post you were referring to but here it is. From the 14 coins that are listed in that historical capture, we only have Litecoin that has any significance and value today. Everything else is gone or barely struggling for air.

- Namecoin - down +80% since its ATH.
- PPCoin or Peercoin - down +85% since its ATH.
- Novacoin - dead or no liquidity.
- Devcoin - dead.
- Terracoin - down +96% since its ATH.
- Feathercoin - down +98% since its ATH.
- Freicoin - down +97% since its ATH.
- CHNCoin - dead.

You're neither late in Bitcoin. Just because you didn't receive 10000 BTC for giving away two pizzas doesn't mean that you're late.
When people talk about getting in late when it comes to bitcoin, they usually talk about a lost opportunity to become millionaires or billionaires once those coins are converted back to fiat. They feel sorry that they didn't learn about bitcoin early enough to turn a $100 investment into several million dollars. That's impossible with today's prices.

But why does that have to be your only goal? I mean, sure, getting rich and not having to care about money for the rest of your life is great, but you can also appreciate the fact that even gains of 10% or 20% are much higher than the interest you would earn from a time deposit in traditional banks. And if you believe in a world where bitcoin will achieve a much greater adoption rate that wont require you to exchange it for fiat, hold on to it and wait.

More coins are introduced everyday. There are numbers of low coins you can buy and hold now, your inability to do it now may also result to regret in 5years time.

If you think some coins are so expensive, buy the inexpensive ones.
These two sentences of yours are dangerous advice. You will also regret buying various coins expecting their value to shoot up when that never happens. Just because a coin is cheap now and it used to cost more in the past, that doesn't mean it will ever reach those old highs ever again. Check the records and look at the TOP 10 coins back in 2014/2015 and compare the names and the value with what we have today. You will find just a few survivors.

Bitcoin has shown time after time that when it prospers, so do other assets. To minimize your risk, stick with the familiar options and don't overdiversify.
8467  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: July 14, 2021, 12:32:57 PM
I've witnessed several cases where two or more persons fall victim of plagiarism but end up having different penalties for the same crime committed, the newbies are sent home while the rules are somehow bent to accommodate the established members. Rules should be rules.
Even though I agree with you that rules should be the same for everyone, you have to understand that each moderator has his own interpretation of the rules and hence uses his own judgement. The ability to follow their own interpretation is actually one of the rules. That's why the admins can be a bit more lenient towards established members if getting rid of them would present a loss for the whole forum. The rules are unofficial and not something that is set in stone.

It might seem unfair, but it's OK if a distinction is made between the violations of established members and newbies who haven't contributed anything to the forum and are only here to abuse it. When it comes to plagiarism, each case is different. Most of the times, members get banned for it, other times only the post is deleted with no harder punishment for the member.
8468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did Satoshi use GB English and international English ? on: July 14, 2021, 10:03:20 AM
I believe that the use of English in writing your messages says a lot, for example, that Satoshi is a person or a group of people from the United States or England...
There is a big difference between the United States and England when it comes to writing and spelling. The differences aren't as obvious when you consider the other Commonwealth nations such as Canada, New Zealand, or Australia. They use British English there as well. You also have Ireland and Scotland to consider.

The more I think about it, the more I like a shadow-ban type of system. The question is, how to implement it properly so it doesn't prevent people from wanting to register on Bitcointalk and only keeps the bad guys away? We know how resourceful they can be when they smell blood and an opportunity to scam and abuse. They can easily pretend to be regular newbies wanting to before part of the community, only to show their real faces once their shadow-bans are lifted.

But I guess he doesn't want to prioritize if because he's pretty much content with the "as long as it's broken, why fix it?" mantra.
You missed an important 3-letter word there. Not! As long as it's not broken... Smiley

I have a question for the Bitsler admins.

When I log in to my Bitsler account, it shows that I can make 20 faucet claims per day. But the Bitsler coin information page states that accounts of all levels can claim coins up to 50 times per day. I was wondering which of these two numbers is the correct one? Is the info page outdated or have you changed it so that all players can't make 50 claims/day?
8471  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 13, 2021, 07:49:29 PM
@panjul07, @tygeade
You guys are correct regarding the amounts of BTSLR coins that can be claimed. It depends on the user level. New accounts can only receive 25 coins per claim while the highest rank rewards players with 20.000 BTSLR.

However, there is an inconsistency regarding the number of times coins can be claimed on the actual claim site and the information that comes with it. My account shows only 20 claims per day, but the info page states that ALL players can claim coins 50 times a day. This is obviously false. Until I find out what the correct daily number really is, I will leave it at 20 for now, but I will correct the coin amounts in the table.

Thanks!

The EURO 1X2 tournament was an interesting one. Seems easy at first, but as time goes by and we see many unexpected results, players start losing some ground. I predicted too many draws throughout the whole tournament. Even in matches that seemed like they would be easily won by one team, I sometimes tipped for a surprise result.

That prevented me from bringing home better results. I guess this year wasn't meant for "it" to come home. Wink

...and the primary purpose of the new software is not to attract more users;
The main purpose might not be to attract a wider userbase, but I think a bunch of the issues that plagued forum users throughout the years need to be fixed if Bitcointalk is to keep the ones they already have. Releasing a new forum that turns out to be inadequate (feature-wise) could have worse consequences than not creating a new one at all. It might become the reason why some users bid farewell to the community if they realize they waited all this time for something better, but it never arrived.
8474  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: July 13, 2021, 09:35:23 AM
Creating a new local board is a big deal and those in charge haven't add one in years meaning better be ready for a long wait...
Judging by tranthidung's thread, History of local boards, the last local subs were added back in 2017.

Namely:
  • The Japanese
  • The Arabic
  • The Uzbekistan, Armenian, and Sri Lankan language threads

Since nothing has been done on this front for several years, the chances for significant changes don't look good. But there are always exceptions, so don't give up on your request.
8475  Other / Meta / Re: Is there some sort of Godfatherism in the forum? on: July 13, 2021, 09:23:49 AM
I agree with most of the posts and think you are looking at it wrongly. Just by looking at the merit history, you might get the feeling these members are collaborating and intentionally meriting each other to benefit.

If you look past that and research where and how they post, you might see why they have such high amounts of merits. Go and check out who are the members who are the most active in the Development & Technical Discussion and Bitcoin Technical Support sub forums for example. Look for those providing the best answers to questions and helping with problem-solving.

Several names will catch your eye. Let's say there are 15 of them. So you have 15 members with the same interests, knowledge, and experience, spending most of their time in the same sections. That creates a small group of people who constantly come across each other, read each other's posts, and like what they see because they solve problems. It then becomes natural that those people merit each other without there being a malicious system behind it.

Consider also the following. If a person is always nice to you, gives you compliments, and creates a positive atmosphere when you are around that person, you will remember the name and feel like you should return the favor. It's human nature to want to feel appreciated and show appreciation to others. The next time you see that person, you will gladly say or do something nice. It's the same thing with merits.

@Charles-Tim
You are right about the evil-fee system. I didn't think too much about it when I was writing this topic, but it certainly is a big slap in the face for new users. Imagine hearing about a great bitcoin community. You get excited, you sign up, only to see a notification telling you to pay a penalty fee because of the actions some other users close to you did in the past. Instant turn off. As you rightly pointed out, we see members getting banned for various rule infringements in the marketplace sub, for example, and they keep coming back with new accounts posting the same threads. It shows that the evil-fee system isn't keeping the bad guys away from Bitcointalk, but it hinders some newbies from maybe becoming useful members.
8477  Other / Meta / Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: July 13, 2021, 07:56:50 AM
Online forums aren’t as popular today as they were 10 or 20 years ago. Social networks are now leading the race when it comes to online discussions.

Bitcointalk is just one community that has fewer users and less activity than it had in the past. It’s a pity because this forum offers something better and something that social media can’t. It’s a place where all the legendary bitcoiners, from Hal to Satoshi, used to write. Those threads are still here. They can easily be found and hold historical importance.

On social media, discussions are forgotten rather quickly. It’s sporadic that a topic stays active and trends for more than a few days. The quality of conversations is not comparable because little effort is put in due to the speed at which they are being held. On Bitointalk, some topics have been maintained and are active even after several years of being created.

One thing that isn’t discussed that often are ad blockers. Bitcointalk generates profit from the ad spaces it sells. But because of the greater use of ad blockers among the userbase, the brands are no longer getting the exposure they had in the past. As a result, the cost of advertising drops, as does the forum profits.

The new forum software has been in development for years. Considering the current trend of online forums losing ground to social media, there might be less incentive to hurry up and release it. The development is costly, time-consuming, but will it be worth it, and how big will the community be that uses it?

If the new forum is mobile-friendly, I think that will be the most significant feature to give it a slight push.

With all this in mind, do you believe that once the new forum is released, Bitcointalk will increase its userbase?
Do you think that in 5 or 10 years, the new generations will appreciate the significance of Bitcointalk and be happy to be part of it?
Or are we a dying breed of forum users taking their last breaths. At the same time, bigger (but not necessarily better) communities are being established elsewhere?

Your thread reminded me of one I created myself last year. My investigation on satoshi.

I was also interested in finding out if he was British or maybe American. Among the things I looked at was also the letters "z" and "s". There is also the letters "ou" in words like colour/color that are spelt differently depending on if you are taught British or American English.

I really enjoyed reading Satoshi's posts and creating that thread.

If I can't trust my family, my parents, and my kids with my secrets and my money, then I wouldn't want them inhering my bitcoin either. I think such arrangements should be made while you are alive and healthy without relying on a system or service to do it for you. Your next of kin and life partner should already know what is what while you are still around. That's how our parents did it with my siblings and me. Each one of us knows what they'll be inheriting one day. Just my two cents.
8480  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Lost bitcoins in a hack from bitcoin.com and bittrex.com on: July 12, 2021, 01:14:45 PM
Bitcoin transactions are irreversible and no one can abort a confirmed transaction on the blockchain. Be careful with people who might PM you and tell you otherwise. They are lying and could be trying to scam you further or infect your computer.

the only support the websites can give is the IP address of who logging in and withdrew your balance.
Some exchanges show this information already in the user profiles or the settings for each account. OP can look and see if there is an activity log. If there is, it should show at what time the account was accessed and from what IP/location. Unfortunately, that wont help that much because you will have to get law enforcement involved and press charges against an unknown hacker.
