I come here mainly for the drama, but its definitely one of my top 3 sections. I also thoroughly enjoy Scam Accusations and Reputation.

I've always liked to read meta! This is where dreams are born Wink.

Or crushed if you come here looking for an explanation of why your best bounty hunter profile got banned and end up getting 3 of your alts banned in the process.

Brb need to suggest negative merits Cheesy

I think it would be funny if you could expend 10 sMerits to delete 1 of somebody's merits. Then you could theoretically rank a Legendary down to a Noob with a minimum expenditure of 10,000 sMerits.
8482  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Ok, here's a 1BTC puzzle. on: January 26, 2019, 03:44:43 AM
Funny that this is still going on, I thought for sure it would have been solved by now.

since there is no standard for brainwallets i would be surprised if using it would work. for example this one that you linked is doing a 1 time SHA256 on the passphrase, i have seen others do different numbers of hashes, or even using HMAC functions or use PBKDF functions and use your passphrase as its seed with 2048 iterations.
each of these methods would give you a different private key and without a starnard who is to say which one you should use?

I would guess that it would be this one:

https://brainwalletx.github.io/

When I was guessing I was sure to generate both "compressed" and "uncompressed" versions of the keys.
8483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To save bitcoin - stop buying bitcoin cash on: January 26, 2019, 03:41:33 AM
Why would I stop buying bitcoin cash if it has much better utility than BTC?

Do you really buy BCH, and is it really better than BTC? I doubt it, and no.

I can rely on fees being low forever and I can buy stuff cheap on Purse. It's also not advertised as a store of value, so it's not a pyramid scheme,

Wrong. Gavin Andresen, 2017:

"Bitcoin Cash is what I started working on in 2010: a store of value AND means of exchange."

https://twitter.com/gavinandresen/status/929377620000681984

it actually has some fundamentals that can determine a price (although every coin is overpriced).
Wouldn't buy BCH as an investment, but their community is working to provide actual utility, whereas OP is a gambler like most of BTC-ers.

There's no question that more of BCH's price is speculator-driven than BTC, and that's why it's constantly sinking in price compared to BTC. Its a doubling down on inferior tech.

8484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Postponed ICO after bounty campaign on: January 26, 2019, 03:36:19 AM
As bounty hunters you have very little if any power of the control of an ICO. Nobody really cares about your opinions because they realize you are just spambots that use human brains. Frankly I don't know why ICOs continue to use "bounty hunters" -- a far more glorious name for spamming a forum or social media than it deserves.

and there is r0ach cohen back

About to watch ‘The Big Lebowski’.

This had better be good Wink

enjoy yourself
you're in for a threat man

just pay much attention to all the lines that are spoken etc

Wink

Its one of those films where you can find something new in it every time you watch it. Even after the 6th time I watched it I could say, "Oh, I never noticed that before."

RIP Donny
8486  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2019, 02:26:45 PM

Better find a job. Hoskinson says 10 years at the earliest for the market to get back to ATH.

https://www.fxstreet.com/cryptocurrencies/news/bitcoin-will-cost-20-000-in-10-years-charles-hoskinson-founder-of-cardano-201901250749

Guy should probably concentrate on marketing his own coin, which is basically just a brain in a hat. Averages about 2 transactions every 5 minutes.

https://cardanoexplorer.com/

In short I wouldn't take anything he has to say about the market seriously.
8487  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Backscratchers: who scratched who's back the most? on: January 25, 2019, 02:00:47 PM
Nice list and use of data.

My first reference isn't until after #1000, so after giving out over 200 merits, I can safely take pride in my wide merit distribution... Or else feel bad about my lack of merits as compared to some. You know, one or the other..
8488  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2019, 10:54:15 AM
a possible NEW lebowski movie was on my mind, but I really hope they don't F*** it up cause matching the first one will not be easy

Funny how WO is where I first got this news. Maybe I can replace all other news, social media and the rest of the forum with this thread.

8489  Other / Meta / Re: Discussion about acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Community values. DT on: January 25, 2019, 08:00:49 AM
Not at all the same. The difference is I just explained in detail why this is the case, in addition to oh what, 5 years of history of this to reference since the trust system was implemented? You are pointing to a hypothetical. I am referencing current reality.

You're just giving an opinion like everybody else. Your interpretation of how trust should be used is pretty narrow, but obviously its just an opinion because people use it for much more, and will continue to use it as they see fit (and how is allowed by the forum) regardless of your opinion.
8490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The release of Satoshi's personal data on: January 25, 2019, 07:57:05 AM
Do I get de-merit if one of posts is deleted from this thread? To be fair, the deletion was legit, with my bad on my part.

No actually but its not a bad idea.

Furthermore, people should be able to spend 10 of their own sMerits to delete one of somebody else's merits... with no limit. So theoretically a Legendary could be ranked back down to Newbie, but it would cost a minimum of 10,000 sMerits.
8491  Other / Meta / Re: Happy birthday, the merit system! on: January 24, 2019, 01:39:06 PM
While much of this place might still seem to be a spam/scamfest in many ways, I shudder to think of what it would be without the Merit system.
8492  Other / Meta / Re: Discussion about acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Community values. DT on: January 24, 2019, 12:30:53 PM
It works both ways buddy.

Either the trust system ratings are primarily for trade or they aren't. If they aren't then it is just a meaningless joke of a popularity contest that will only serve as cover for con artists to use perpetually to rip people off because they can just keep buying/hacking accounts.

Your first statement is neither a fact nor an argument. It is at best your opinion. Just more hypothetical waxing poetic about more sky falling rhetoric.
8493  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account. on: January 24, 2019, 06:54:20 AM
Account was bought or hacked between Sept and Oct 2018.

Couldn't find direct plagiarism.

Joined a handful of bounty campaigns; uses this address but hasn't been paid thus far, so its hard to tell if he's cheating bounties.
8494  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: January 24, 2019, 06:47:55 AM
Words came out in distinct order, still nothing was said...

I think this is just the clarity of information. I have something I have. I have ETH 2.0. Competitors participate in the confrontation. Of course the winner is not known. But to speak as if it is simple. Move ETH is not easy.

... From reading a guy's posts who was recently banned. He paid good money for that account!  Cry
8495  Other / Meta / Re: Discussion about acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Community values. DT on: January 24, 2019, 05:51:26 AM
Ultimately all it does is serve to make it EASIER for the real cons because they can hide in the chaos and noise while you go after the "pajeet" scammers. Then after all is said and done we are still left with a huge amount of conflict, disagreement, and fraud as well as a lot of innocent users swept up in it. It is counterproductive.

You don't know that "pajeet" scammers aren't part of larger rings of serial scammers. Not doing anything at all is far worse.

You don't see how it increases somebody's profile? Tell me, there are some members here that have done little to no trading here yet have stacks of great ratings. What are the majority of them related to? Right "scam busting". Real or not quite so real, it doesn't make much of a difference to some of them... it all makes them look more valuable, and there is no penalty to being wrong for them.

Trading shouldn't be the only way to build up a positive reputation. I don't think the majority of non-trade green trust comes from scam busting, but it should be encouraged, not discouraged. If people are rewarded for their positive contributions to the forum, its a motivating factor for them.

Of course the system isn't perfect -- nobody ever said that it was. But the forum shouldn't be regarded as a free for all for scammers any more than it presently is.
8496  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why does the cosmos exist at all? on: January 24, 2019, 05:44:22 AM
^^^ This is where religion steps in. Science isn't close to answering things like these.

Cool

Religion does a worse job of explaining things than science.

If religion is the answer, _which_ religion is it? There's hundreds or even thousands of incompatible religions out there. To believe that your religion is the correct one and all the others are wrong is sheer arrogance. It's more likely that they are all wrong.
8497  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BiteBTC is a scam exchange on: January 24, 2019, 05:31:30 AM

Holy Cow, Phinnaeus gave away a merit, hell is freezing over, and the Eagles are getting back together again.

https://metro.co.uk/2018/09/28/the-eagles-announces-huge-reunion-tour-with-career-spanning-hits-7988302/

Does anybody whose opinion matters object to the statement that this thread is meaningless? Just want to get a head count.

meanwhile...
more venezuelans buying Petros PTR
twitter

Dude. That's not a petro. It's an IOU for a petro which may or may not be redeemable, and for what, who knows? You really don't understand how cryptocurrency works. A coin isn't yours if you don't have its private keys. We don't even know if petros have private keys because people aren't allowed to own them. We don't even know if the coin has its own actual blockchain.

Even though I have the power to tag you with red trust, what would be the point... you only shill for this abomination of a coin that foreigners can't purchase. Apparently only retired Venezuelans can buy IOUs for them. Really I don't understand what your purpose is. Maduro already fleeced as many foreign investors as he possibly can. You do an awful job of giving legitimacy to this project, should probably just retire.
8500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: January 23, 2019, 10:32:57 AM
there are pluses in everything, sellers have ended, now it is possible to make the price more expensive than bitcoin, and will not fall

Yeah I mean it only has to climb more than 27x its current price and BTC has to not budge at all for this to happen... You can keep dreaming if you want, that's what this thread is for I suppose.

Or... you can just admit that Roger's cash grab experiment has gone horribly awry and the appropriate thing to do would be for it to lose the "bitcoin" part of its name, as it is now no longer close to being competitive with BTC.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know, one or the other...
