Don't import keys from an address that has btc in it.
Send the btc to a new address first.
Then import the old keys into a btg wallet.
This relies on replay protection of course; but if there is no replay protection, why are you trying to split coins?
There is a way to split coins from a fork that has no replay protection, but it's way too complicated for me.
So:  wait.

if i send bitcoin to another address and wait for 30 confirmations, i need to worry about no replay protection? i don't think so because those bitcoin are now associated with another privatekey right?

A transaction can be replayed years down the line 1000s of blocks in the past

I don't know how much you know about replay attacks but its mainly all about nothing if you are smart enough

A replay attack is when you send a transaction one one chain that yes once verified is safe but on the other chain a payment was not made but the signed transaction you send will also be valid on the other chain and can be replayed by someone sending your coins on the other chain.

They cannot modify the transaction though and can only send it the same address so if you are sending to yourself then a replayed transaction would just go to you too.

You are best off just sending all coins on both chains to different addresses that you own at the same time that way you can guarantee nothing can be replayed

for example

                             ----->----- NEW ADDRESS1
OLD ADDRESS -->--
                             ----->----- NEW ADDRESS2

Then OLD ADDRESS would be empty on both chains and all funds would be in different addresses so nothing to replay

Don't fall for this scam, just because it's called Bitcoin it's just a shit coin the dev are already pre mining it for a week and from.what I found they have tried to make an ico before

https://web.archive.org/web/20170831032225/http://btcgpu.org/

Basically they will have 200 000 btg to dump and people will lose their money.

Things have changed there WILL NOT be 200k coins pre-mined read the code its 8000 blocks (100k) and this is not being released straight away it's being timelocked on the blockchain and released at 20k a year so if this coin does not survive the devs get very little and most will die still locked in the chain untouchable

I understand but why did they are already mining it ?
https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/?q=Bitcoin+Gold

Basically they are setting difficulty low and mining all the coins during a whole week before release ? To me it's the same.

Them nodes are nothing to do with them just people that have built from source and if you look at the block height they are all at or below the fork block so no there have not been new blocks mined

The premine will most likely happen local and probably in a day the difficulty is being set at 1 to block times would be seconds apart for this

Sorry to say but based on what was shown this seems like a get and dump coin for the dev to earn quick cash
Too many negative news on bitcoin gold

As posted earlier the dev's cannot just dump the premine its going to be timelocked on the blockchain and released over several years so for the dev's to cash out everything this coin needs to survive for several years

I wonder if bitcoin gold can beat bitcoin cash? Let's see a week again.

well
we already see that
first see on btc cash
a few days after bch come to market
bch got ranked 5 on coinmarketcap
but , how about btcG ?
still 900 ++ ?
Lmao

Until there is a active blockchain then NO coin can make the top 900 never mind the top 10 futures always get stuck on the end by trading volume rather than market cap

Bitcoin cash was around 940 before it officially launched then jumped straight to the top 10 and gold will be the same as soon as the chain is active then it will go straight into the top 10

Right now in the futures market gold is 100% higher in trading volume to its closest competitor so is currently the highest it can possibly be before launch

What I wonder is this coin is viable in the long run because BCH has to be at 0.14 ... sat to create a profit mining it.
at least that's what I understood about it. I could be wrong of course.

Profitability has nothing to do with the value it could be 0.001BTC and still be profitable the determining factor is how many want to mine it and this value will equalise with other competing coins until profitability is about equal

The only reason BCH needed a higher value is the big mining pools that supported it moved too much power over
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Gold : Make Bitcoin Decentralized Again on: October 25, 2017, 09:34:49 PM
Wait, this is launched but the support for mining hasn't started? The network is supported by a few nodes and not yet fully secure. I could see this taking off once the network is decentralized.

No its not launched I think those nodes have been compiled from the development source code that is not complete and even if you could use this dev source to mine it would be useless because once the final version launches any created blocks would be rejected by the network
869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Gold : Make Bitcoin Decentralized Again on: October 25, 2017, 09:20:27 PM
how can I mine this non of the pools support it yet.. yet the difficulty is rising

You cannot mine there is no working network yet the source code is not finished

I can see on some of the pools the network hasrate and difficulty, It keeps rising so is that the premine? ots already like block 200k or something

There are a few nodes that have been started but I don't know if any are official or just people thats compiled the current code

https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/?q=Bitcoin+Gold

The block height is at the snapshot point and has been there since that block height was reached

so you guess we won't see wallet within next week?

You won't see any wallets until the source is complete and network goes live

Seems kind of crazy that they dont have a live network or a working wallet, or completed source code, yet they were able to fork bitcoin.

I am glad that nothing went wrong because there wasnt any risk?

There is still a huge risk with buying on the futures market all we really know so far is that the dev's have taken a snapshot of the blockchain which is basically just saving it for later use (the forking point) the fork has not actually happened yet and cannot until the software is complete and nodes are available so until this is complete there is no guarantee of anything and worst case scenario is they do not complete and all futures are deleted thats why I am so surprised at being so high right now I do support this and like the idea if a bitcoin that can be mined on a GPU but until there is a live network I would not recommend anyone to buy any

There's something fishy about the project, don't you think,guys?...

I wouldn't go that far I would say its more rushed with a tight deadline to beat B2X to launch
874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Gold : Make Bitcoin Decentralized Again on: October 25, 2017, 07:25:36 PM
when to hit 1 cent lololol BTC hope this burns asap and next fork wont happen.

You won't see a true value until the network goes live right now the code is still not production ready and I am really surprised the value is so high for a unfinished project but do expect to see a substantial increase if the network proves to be secure and reliable

Hello.

I have saw this trading happening here:
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-gold/#markets

How can I retrieve bitcoin gold using my paper wallet or Electrum Wallet?

Thanks.

Right now you cannot you will have to wait until the network goes live and then just import your private key into a TRUSTED wallet and you are free to send wherever you like

Yes but looking over twitter and reddit comments it may not go as smoothly as expected a lot of users are angry about this and the miners seem to like the old EDA so "could" create a community split like ETH & ETC this was born from differences over an official upgrade

You guys are always complaining the one big miner mines the majority of blocks.
Well whichever way that miner picks is the way that the network will go.

So which difficulty adjustment they prefer will be chosen.
Everyone else can just shutup unless they have a warehouse full of ASICS that can outmatch the big miner, (who has supported Bitcoin Cash from Day 1.)

ASICS Talk  &  Bullshit walks
(The Way Satoshi intended.)

* I be more worried that segwitcoin falls into a death spiral when 2x appears and the hash is split between 3 chains. *
Whether the EDA is still in place or a new difficulty adjustment, either way Bitcoin Cash has a difficulty adjustment.
Shitwitcoin has no difficulty adjustment in place to stop a death spiral.

╥Aztek

I would worry more that the cash miners support B2X more and jump over leaving cash dead like all the other failed forks before it (classic, xt, unlimited)

The Segwit2x futures only put at at around 1.5 BTC or ~$900 so far its not looking like much of a threat but it it does succeed we still have all our coins on the other chain

Also the miners are trying to force the EDA right now (one reduction is already guaranteed to happen)

You're missing the point, investors, traders, miners, coders, developers, users: everyone involved in cryptocurrencies is being screwed with every new blockchains released, pure and simple. Take bch for instance, it has dropped 23% since July.

I'm not denying that we would be better off with just the one but there is nothing that can be done about it though so you have to take what you get

No matter if you like the core chain or not it's the only one that's been consistent and reliable and the one all forks are coming from

SegWit2x is loosing support fast even coinbase the biggest B2X supporter going has changed their stance and will still list BTC as the core chain and refer to the Segwit2x chain as B2X

What I am thinking is that the team of Bitcoin Gold has not yet announced their development roadmap. So we have no real
clue what they have in mind for scalability.

CryptoDj posted that the roadmap is going to released soon... but we are still waiting

I saw that bittrex will credit the same amount of BTG as BTC in your account, but will not add the market at the time of fork.  Which exchanges are confirmed to have a market of BTG beside yobit?

Yes, but according to some sources the snapshot of BTC network was already created, which means during the split it does not matter how many BTC you got, you will (not) receive the amount from the time of snapshot... When was that? No official wants to say...

That's just suck. I was hoping to send my BTC to my desktop wallet today get some BTG after the fork. Can you provide the link as to where you know the time of snapshot? This is disappointing I have started to dump some ERC tokens for BTC just for this.

You have about 28 blocks left to get your BTC on the chain before the snapshot is taken see by post above for what is happening

The snapshot has not happened yet people are getting confused

on block 491407 a snapshot will be taken the chain will then be pushed forward 8000 blocks the coins generated during this time will be split with 40% being made available instantly to cover development costs, server rentals and running seed nodes etc with the other 60% being released at 20% per year over a 3 year period (via a timelocked contract)

After this time when replay protection is completed then the network will be handed to the community for everyone to mine, buy, sell & trade etc
