861  Economy / Securities / Re: Havelock Investments Mining Fund on: February 09, 2013, 04:59:55 AM
I would like to ask you to write up a little update on the HIM fund
I'd be interested to know just how heavily invested in ASIC are you?  BLF pre orders etc...
what would happen to HIM if BLF ran off with everyone's money?
Do you plan on selling more units when ASIC start to come in?
what's up with HIM in general?

thanks

reading past updates appears to answer my questions  Tongue
so never mind...
Gr8 fund! i feel confident holding some bitcoin with HIM  Smiley
The way I see it - HIM has been managed well for a while now, and is likely to stay ahead of the curve. The uncertainties related to ASIC suppliers are pretty much the same for all miners, except ASICMINER to some extent.

862  Economy / Auctions / 258 ASICMINER shares up for grabs! on: February 09, 2013, 02:37:52 AM
Due to life-changing events, I am liquidating some of the assets.

I am selling 258 ASICMINER shares, including any dividends paid before the formal transfer of share ownership.

All-or-nothing (258), no partial bids.

Minimum price: 0.3 BTC per share.

Auction ends on February 19, 23:00:00 UTC.

Shares will be reserved for the highest bidder at the end of auction, assuming (s)he makes the payment by February 20, 23:00:00 UTC. In case no payment is sent, next highest bidder wins, having additional 24 hours to make a payment.

Payment address: 147EDAVYknZRTFpY22B8J93EMkbgoy22iy

Shares will be transferred to the buyer within 24 hours of the listing of ASICMINER on trade platform specified by friedcat. In addition, friedcat will be notified of the outcome of this auction by email.

Might as well hold off on issuing the rest of the shares till more funds are needed for expansion? I'm assuming the entire batch of chips/materials ordered were already funded - so any additional funding would not be in the best interest of ASICMINER Shareholders?
It has been confirmed that there is currently no plan to issue them....

And the "option" the reissue them has no effect on ownership or dividends since its 1/400000 either way. The only reason to sell them would be for quick capital.
Still, the important question is: what is the fate of profits belonging to the unsold shares? This does have effect on my shares - Bitfountain simply scooping these profits is different from these profits being accumulated and used to maintain ASICMINER's competitive advantage through re-investment, upgrades, and covering operating costs.

Great. I can't wait to throw my coins at them!

866  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BFL added tax on: February 08, 2013, 05:32:31 PM
Follow it through to checkout.. the tax goes away for me once you do.
I think it's just an issue with their cart.

I'm not going to go all the way through, but just on the check out page, you hit your shipping option and the Grand Total has the sales tax disappearing.
Thanks to both, I'll edit my post above.
867  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BFL added tax on: February 08, 2013, 04:28:31 PM
As said earlier in this thread; When a business announce a sales price, it's implicit that tax is included in the price. BFL also knew that they had to pay taxes before they started selling.

So this "sales tax" surcharge is is just a camuflaged price increase. Customers that already ordered, can not be asked to pay the extra tax!

So your saying they essentially upped the price of the units
No. The price is unchanged. They are trying to cheat their customers out of money under the false pretense of "tax". Unless their native state implemented changes to tax code to charge a sales tax regardless of customer's location.
EDIT: see below. The tax disappears at checkout.
868  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BFL added tax on: February 08, 2013, 03:49:49 PM
If they have a presence in your state, you're required to pay taxes.

1. They are either scamming you for taxes.
2. FPGA days they didn't collect taxes, nor pay them, or they realized when they paid taxes they fucked up and ate the % they should have collected.
3. They have a presence in your state.
Just tried from Canada. They are adding a "tax" worth $112 on a Single. Looks like your option 1, unless Kansas (or Wyoming?) changed their tax code.
869  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Customs, VAT and parcels on: February 08, 2013, 03:05:11 AM
So if I pay say a BFL SC with BTC, how would the customs add VAT since the price is in BTC?

Will BFL print the $ price on the parcel?

And what would happen if they don't?
Products are clearly priced in USD. You may pay using Bitcoin network, or Visa, or AmEx, but the price is fixed in USD.

Why does this keep happening...

September 08, 2012 -> Feb 7, 2013.

Why go back that far? There are plenty of fresh new topics!!!!

Maybe because this topic was more important to him than the fresh ones?

Do Topics have an expiration date?
Topics do not have an expiration date, but LordGreynick could have just read the answer to his question without asking it and expecting someone to rewrite the answer for him just because he is too lazy to read.
871  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My MtGox account was just exploited - 3 BTC stolen on: February 07, 2013, 06:11:37 PM
Could you clarify the order of events:

You registered with mtgox with a weak pw
The "big" mtgox hack happened, user info leaked, some passwords cracked and phished
You changed your pw to a strong one
Your account gets hacked and 3 btc stolen

Right?
872  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 06, 2013, 05:12:12 PM
How did you come up with 12%? There were 154`262 shares in circulation after the ipo (search this thread). Each share is entitled to 1/400`000 of the profits.  That ends up being 39%.

International money transfer.
874  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: February 06, 2013, 02:44:33 AM
There has been no significant increase in network hashrate over the past two weeks. Enough said.
Except that the diff change (that happened in the last 24 hours) was:
2968775.3320751 -> 3275464.5865656
i.e. +10.33%

So the total hash rate (probably) went up about 2.3TH/s averaged across the last 2 weeks

It rose to that in the second half of the 2016 block from well below +10%

So if the extra hardware was only hashing for half of the 2016 blocks, then the hash rate actually rose 4.6TH/s (but it didn't Tongue)

Anyway - it is all speculation, but indeed the network did go backup up 10% to approximately where is was 4 weeks ago - maybe even just due to the price rise in BTC: more people mining who had stopped?
Yes, but it's almost buried under noise floor. Once Avalon starts arriving to their customers, there will be no need for nitpicking - it will be more than obvious Smiley
875  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 06, 2013, 02:33:51 AM
Were there any ASICMINER stocks not purchases (owned by friedcat/the company)  before GLBSE went down? If so, how will these be priced upon the exchange being brought back up? Will the value be at the same (0.1000BTC/per) or will it be adjusted based on market value//trade price after X days?
The IPO was finished long before GLBSE went down. Not all 200`000 IPO shares were sold before sufficient funds were raised, and the IPO closed. Initially, hundred percent of the profits will be diverted to dividends until 0.1 btc per share is paid out. From there on, each public share's dividend is worth 1/400`000 of the profits, regardless of how many shares were sold originally. It's all buried somewhere in this thread.

Yeah, the only people who can be considered as legit as possible is jgarzik, gmaxwell, me, gavin, and if satoshi ever returns to us in mortal form, him.

ROFL, you wish.
You had your 5 minutes of fame once up on a time, but you dont rank in there at all when it comes to credibility. For me you have none. Zero.  Nada.
With calling BFL a scam outright, he has lost all credibility as soon as they ship.
Not to mention loosing 99% of investors money while managing DMC on GLBSE.

Lol, didn't hear about that one.
Can we please keep the thread clean and stay on topic? I don't even know who the dude is, and after seeing that statement I certainly don't need to know, and it's certainly got nothing to do with ASICMINER. Thank you.

879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security concerns of Bitcoin-QT with encrypted wallet? on: February 05, 2013, 07:27:11 PM
I am happy with paper wallets. Fold it, with a piece of aluminum foil inserted, to protect the private key from prying eyes, and laminate. Two copies in two different, secure locations.

Casascius' encrypted keys work even better then alu foil, and offer additional possibilities - but I will wait for some additional scrutiny before I embrace them.
880  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Amazon releases Amazon Coins... reactions? on: February 05, 2013, 02:55:13 PM
Any private currency backed by a powerful corporation can only help Bitcoin address regulatory questions. Amazon lawyers ought to be able to help set favorable precedents.
