861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: April 01, 2023, 12:21:13 PM

It looks like Pep Guardiola will not only focus on the Champions League because in the Premier League they still have hope of taking first place from Arsenal. After all, this is not a situation that requires them to only focus on one competition, except that it is mathematically impossible for Manchester City to catch Arsenal.

So I hope Manchester City are still very focused on the Premier League title this season and also maximize every opportunity in the Champions League. Both competitions are important but if I had to choose then Pep would have to be very focused on the Champions League and fulfilling his team's dream of winning the title.
People think Pep has turned his focus away from the winning the Premier league trophy this season but I don't think so, Manchester City are still very interested in the race and will give their best against Liverpool today as they will be looking to close the gap from Arsenal and put more pressure on Arteta for the remaining 10 games of the season.
Manchester City are still competing for 3 major trophies, the FA cup, the Epl trophy and the Champions league, they have many options and an advantage to achieve at least one of the three this season. The league trophy is still open to Manchester City to compete for and try to win it if Arsenal lose concentration along the way and drop vital points and Manchester City take advantage to get the lead.

863  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you describe bitcoin to a newbie? on: March 31, 2023, 11:12:02 PM
snip
I agree @Rruchi man that’s a good way to start that conversation. I think debunking the myths and fake news about bitcoin is a good step to start when teaching a newbie, it’s important that they unlearn what the media has taught them of bitcoin because more than half of what they think they know about bitcoin is tainted by the anti bitcoin media. I would then explain what bitcoin is and why it was created referencing the bitcoin white paper.
864  Economy / Economics / Re: Should you save, when you are wealthy? on: March 31, 2023, 08:59:51 PM
I believe a person cannot become wealthy without disciplining oneself to cut expenses and save money. The question is “are you saving wisely”. Keeping aside a certain amount every week/month in the bank isn’t going to change your financial situation. The money is just sitting there idle, the banks do not even give reasonable interests on savings account. In my case, I live in Nigeria but I don’t save my money in my local currency instead I save my money in usd. This helps me double my savings faster when the naira falls against the US dollar. I’m saving but at the same time it is an investment.
865  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is it that is bitcoin is first in thought in mind in cryptocurrency on: March 31, 2023, 08:48:05 PM
why is it that is only bitcoin that is more recognized in the crypto world is it because of the ceos or the.

There is no bitcoin CEO, Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoin and disappeared without a trace and that makes bitcoin more special from other cryptocurrencies because the government don’t have a person that can arrest or influence to do their bidding.

I have someone that wants to invest in crypto but wants to invest in other coins he wants to know if other are same values as bitcoin and if other coins can be easily be exchanged or sell  or for purchases.
Bitcoin is very different from altcoins, bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s been consistent and has built trust for over a decade. Altcoins may give you quick profits but they are unreliable and can also rekt your account. I don’t think your friend should start investing in altcoins without doing his research.
866  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pitching Bitcoin to a Whale Tank on: March 31, 2023, 05:40:30 PM
I have watch a few episodes of the show SharkTank, and I don’t think they would have bought the idea of investing in bitcoin or even care about the tech. It’s a big risk, even in 2010. I have never seen a episode of the show where a contestant was pitching gold to the judges. The investors only care about profits, royalties and equity. They want companies and start ups that look promising and have already started making money from the business, most times the contestants are offered unfair deals and they take it without doing the math. I wonder how that would work for a volatile asset like bitcoin if they ask for double their investments plus royalties.
867  Economy / Economics / Re: How Long in Years Should I Wait Before I Close Down an Unprofitable Business on: March 31, 2023, 04:11:39 PM
I agree with what he said. You cannot expect much profits in the first year of starting a new business because you’re still building your reputation and growing your customer base. If you work hard, make the mistakes and find solutions to them in the first year, it’s expected that the sales will increase in the second year. Personally I would give my business three years before shutting it down.

It’s crazy that the comments on the post are all about crypto investments.
868  Other / Meta / Re: Spammers and Burst Posters only on: March 30, 2023, 11:46:46 PM
I think it also depends on two things. First is the boards the posts are made, for example, altcoins discussion is the place to go to spam or burst posts and go unnoticed because there are mostly mega threads. Local boards could also be exploited because the campaign manager and other members (except the local board members) will not be able to tell if the post is constructive or not. The other thing is how the person has been on the forum, if you have been here since 2016 or longer it won’t take much time to comments on topics because most of the topics on beginner & help are repetitive.
869  Economy / Economics / Re: Lending money or damaging family bond ? on: March 30, 2023, 10:52:02 PM
Most times, in this demographic, when a person starts making money, those closest to him including friends and extended family feel entitled to what the person owns and want a piece. I believe giving loans to family members ever works because of sentiment and most times it is a non collateral loan. You can’t really do nothing to them if they choose to default the loan, taking legal action against a relative could cause problems in the family. You can easily become the bad person in their eyes when you try to get your money back.
870  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current Topic: AFCON 2023 QUALIFIERS. on: March 30, 2023, 09:38:51 PM

Let's forget about motivation speeches which I believe was the case of the coach of Guinea Bissau, big names play football and if you doubt me, then names of  Haaland, Mbappe, Ronaldo and Messi won't be heard because these are good players that have made names for themselves and they are all big names.

Coming to the African football, the first leg of the game between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau  where Nigeria was defeated in Abuja by Guinea Bissau didn't happen because the big boys in Nigeria didn't play well it's just a game where the stadium wasn't favourable to the super eagles of Nigeria and the away team got a lucky goal which saw them win the first leg. Coming to the second leg of the game we saw a different super eagles ready and we'll determined to win the game regardless of the poor formation of the coach and they still managed to get all the three points from away. This shows that the big names in the super eagles team helped the team to beat Guinea Bissau team to reclaim back the top spot in the group where they belong.
It is true that the field wasn't in a good playing condition and most of our players are not home based and no longer used to playing on a pitch like that, I think it favoured the Guinea players more because most of them are home based players but players are not rated as big names for nothing, they earn it and having big names in a squad give more advantage over average teams for better experience and professionalism. In the second leg the better team had the day.
871  Economy / Economics / Re: #Quittok: Desire for positive work environments and greater work-life balance on: March 30, 2023, 09:28:58 PM
It’s amazing that young people are quitting their jobs while we are in a recession. They either have a trust fund or just being stupid. It’s ironic because there’s been massive layoffs this year, I have seen a lot of posts and videos of people in tears, that were laid off from their job asking for a new opportunity. I can’t imagine quitting a 9-5 for dumb reasons, unless I am hopping companies for a bigger paycheck and more time. Job hunting is a rigorous process and it’s difficult to get a job even with the right qualifications. I don’t think this trend will ever come to Nigeria, there a lots of qualify unemployed people who are willing to work.

873  Economy / Economics / Re: #Quittok: Desire for positive work environments and greater work-life balance on: March 30, 2023, 08:10:09 PM
I haven’t watched any of the videos, gen z as they like to call themselves do their best to break traditional norms and do whatever they like. Its fine if person who is uncomfortable going to work everyday  because it’s toxic, this generation is very sensitive. As a employer, I would look at the resume and see how long you worked at your previous job and ask why you quit in the interview process. So when I see you worked at 4 jobs in six months, that tells me you’re inconsistent and no employer would such a staff in his company.

The reason for young people quitting their jobs is better explain here in the article of Mark Elgan a computing Columnist, in his computerworld December 6th, 2021.

Take your time and read through it and enjoy the answers.

Scrolling past your post to read the next one took me forever. You may want to reference the link to that article and quote it properly.
874  Other / Meta / Re: Spammers and Burst Posters only on: March 30, 2023, 04:27:25 PM
I remember Poker Player asking this question last year, I think post bursting is a subjective matter. Regular members and campaign managers have their opinion of what they consider burst posting. While some regular members may think a 20 minute gap between posts is fine, campaign managers are more concerned in the visibility of the signature on different hours throughout the day.
875  Other / Meta / Re: I bought a yacht thanks to bitcoin. on: March 29, 2023, 10:31:04 PM
So you really mean that peeps be posting 'em achievements for some merits?? Cus that's what it implies.... If everyone is doing the same thing, isn't that gonna be some dubious means to earn merits??
If I can vividly remember, merit was meant to be given out to any post that outrightly deserves them...so what's really worth meriting when someone post an achievement?? Everyone's been having one achievements or another; just imagine everyone posting them?? Do you know how clumsy the forum will look??.. Maybe you're getting the whole idea wrong.

Sandra 🧑‍🦰
I think the first few were genuine, then some persons saw the merit spread and had the amazing idea they could bait merits with these kind of topics. We can’t be 100% sure if the stories are real or made up, some of these guys feel attacked and dox themselves trying to prove what they say is true. I believe this threads will stop eventually if we stop rewarding them with merits. Remember rank up threads were a thing lol
876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons why I might consider selling my Bitcoin. on: March 29, 2023, 09:48:07 PM
One point you made is where I am confused if, its actually virtue or its you just stating the possibility but, it is;
Unfavorable government policies:[/u] If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.
When you say should government ban bitcoin, this implies that the ban is already in place and transacting after that would be committing the crime you hope not to (being in possession or trading bitcoin). Its anonymous and comes with lost of privacy, exchanges has a privacy term to consider and I don't think you've committed any crime by owning what hurts no one. Especially when, you didn't earn them by some scam. I might as well take the risk, hope they never find out or in a way, it would aide to hold even more better.
I would hate to see a government coming back to cover correct some mistakes in the future after making someone lose an investment that could have been for a lifetime of fortune.
@Smartvirus I’d like to make a correction here so newbies don’t misunderstand. I think sometimes we forget bitcoin isn’t anonymous and can be traced back to you if you’re not careful. That’s why mixers are appealing to majority of bitcoin holders. It’s a big risk to have bitcoins if you live in a county that is anti bitcoin and has an active ban on bitcoin. You could face jail time if caught, that’s too much of a risk in my opinion.
877  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Laszlo Hanyecz see it as 10,000 BTC or as $41? on: March 29, 2023, 08:33:43 PM
What’s your point? We should all hodl and never spend our bitcoins. How will bitcoin reach global adoption as a currency if bitcoiners are not willing to spend it on goods and services. Obviously he saw the bitcoins for what it was worth at the time. If he had a crystal ball to see the future he wouldn’t have made that transaction. I applaud Laszlo for being one of the first persons who used bitcoin as means of payment as Satoshi intended.
878  Other / Meta / Re: staff were asked to stop advertising mixing services on: March 29, 2023, 07:46:18 PM
If we disable ads on mixers, we discourage people from using them.
AFAIK no one stopped the advertisement of mixers, there are mixer campaigns doing business on the forum and just recently a new mixer campaign launched and a lot of members were happy to apply. It’s only staff that have been asked to stop advertising mixers. I think Theymos (if it was Theymos who asked) did that for good reasons considering recent events.
879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spread Love with Bitcoin on: March 28, 2023, 09:56:12 PM
I think it would have been more better had you inscribe a written note on the envelope like this... "Donated from my profit made in Bitcoin"
I don’t think he will be able to do that because bitcoin is forbidden in Islam. Muslims are not allowed to invest in bitcoin and I don’t think the mosque would appreciate it if they found out the money came from bitcoin. As much as what OP intentions were pure and from his heart, there are people there who would be offended because it’s against their religious belief.
