This really belongs in the Altcoin Hardware area. ref the pinned msg at top of this area mainly point-3
862  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Has anyone here built custom ICs to mine Bitcoin? on: December 25, 2021, 07:41:07 PM
The only reasonably 'low cost' way to make them to use would be the 28nm node or larger. Even then you are looking at at least several k$ to run the chips at the handful of experimental/small run fabs that would even talk to you about producing a few dozen chips that by today's standards of speed and power eff would be near useless.

This power plant is capable of providing only up to 4 MWh
You perhaps meant to say 4MW (MegaWatts)?.
MW is the the measure of power capacity available at any point in time whereas MWh is MegaWatt/hours which is a measure of total power usage over time (hours)...

Doesn't Avalon have an option to reset to DHCP using a physical procedure of some type? this seems like a lot of work just to get the miner to DHCP
Nope, gotta log in to the static address t change it
.
As far as I can remember, the A10 series all started up in DHCP. Why Canaan has gone back to the way the A9's and lower were using a default static IP is beyond me though I just use an old laptop already setup for the initial boots with my old Avalon/RasPi miners.
865  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Slush pool locked my account on: December 22, 2021, 08:29:06 PM
I have to say, this is shady.. Many people mine and then hold their coins for long periods of time because they know they will be more valuable in the future. <snip>
Sure folks mine and then hold their coins but-- DO NOT HOLD THEM ON A POOL!!! A pool is not supposed to be used as a wallet... Frankly, keeping any sort of balance on a pool is a horrible idea  Roll Eyes

If you stop mining common sense should tell you to clear any remaining balances ASAP by transferring the payouts to a proper wallet for safe, long-term storage.

Yes the Gateway should be set to 192.168.168.1 and PC set to 192.168.168.100

You will lose the connections to rest of your network and the internet (because the router is set to .1.xxx vs .168.xxx) but for configuration that should not matter -- all you want is the connection to the miner so you can change it to use DHCP. Have you tried just directly connected the miner to the PC? Assuming the LAN cable is a crossover type (most are) it should work. If not sure about the cable, just connect the 2 through a switch and it will figure out which are the Tx and Rx lines. Once you do get connected, only change the miner to use DHCP, save then reboot it. Change the PC addresss back to your original and you should now see the miner on the router. Once you see it there, get it's address, log in to miner and then put in the user and pool info.

PLEASE use the Code icon in the toolbar to post logs - looks like #. It makes things much easier to read...
As for the pools issue - if you are copy/pasting in the pool and user information make sure there are no spaces added. Quite often when doing c/p there is a space added to the end of the string and miners do not like that.

Where I have other trouble is if I try and use the FUNC button to get it into config mode, I can't access it at its default 168.168.168.168 because my router is at 168.168.1.1
Again - it is not a router address issue. You need to set the PC to use the same subnets the Avalon is on.  In that situation most routers will act as a switch and just pass data from the PC & miner through it.
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: No device detected when solo mining CHTA with Gekko Compac F on: December 22, 2021, 01:29:19 PM
a. Are you using the latest cgminer downloaded from Kano's github site that has the driver for the F in it? Winblows version is here. Previous versions will not run it. Unless there is some specific reason to use some other version from someone else, ALWAYS use versions done by the original authors (eg Kano) to be sure there is nothing nefarious going on in the code.

b. This area is for Bitcoin only. Altcoins have their own areas in the Forum -- use them.

As posted above

set up a static IP on my PC - 192.168.168.100
The router is not your problem the address of your PC is. Ja it will disappear from the network that the router is using BUT the router should still act as a switch and let your PC and miner talk to each other. Worse comes to worst, just use a network crossover cable (most are) and directly connect the PC & miner together.

Last things to do after configuring is to change the miner to use DHCP then reboot it, change you PC back to the original address and look for the miner on the router. Should be mining by the time you find it.
870  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: hire a engineer to build me cooling system like a fridge/freezer on: December 21, 2021, 07:17:05 PM
As has been pointed out countless times in other immersion cooling threads - and there are a LOT of them here if folks just take a little time to look -- mineral oil is a horrible fluid to plunk electronics in for prolonged time. It attacks PVC wiring and anything nylon or rubber by making them very hard and brittle. The sulfur content in it attacks copper as well.

There's a reason that there are commercially available alternatives to it - silicon-based oils and other purpose-designed dielectric thermal transfer fluids do not attack metal, plastic, or electrical components.

has anyone figured out how low they can put the temp without running into Condensation problems
Condensation is not the problem. The problem is that the chips NEED to run fairly warm and yes, even what most would call hot. These days all miners have a pre-heat cycle for good reason -- being power devices the designers knew they will get HOT so the circuits have been designed to accommodate changes in bias that happen when electronics warms up. As a result, they don't run as fast when cold and some will even refuse to start.
872  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: December 21, 2021, 12:21:24 AM
These CompacF Ferraris are nice speed on my Solo rig Grin. What syntax gets both NewPac and CompacF Running different frequencies and in the same 4.12 Cgminer?
Just copy and tack on the relevant newpac string you use into the one used to run the F.

That said, due to the way the older sticks communicate it is better to run 2 instances of cgminer: 1 for the newpacs (and 2pacs and the original Compac), and one for the F(s). That's how I do it and yes all from one Gekko hub.
873  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 841 CGminer API log decode.. on: December 20, 2021, 06:37:44 PM
Look in just any thread regarding the A7-A9 and you will find Kano's comments about that. From what I've seen with my clusters it is the number of stales seen that goes up.

As for the reason, partly due to the RasPi using a USB-channel for the LAN connection vs a dedicated network link to the CPU and as a guess, polling time required to service all the miners in a string. Safe bet that since he worked with Canaan to tweak the FW Kano could give some details on it.

Have fun trying to find hosting anywhere on the planet... A lot of folks have been booted from their hosts because the hosting company decides to buy their own hardware and use the power for themselves.

As for Compass - browse through the forum and you will find nothing good said about them and a lot against.
875  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: bitcoin ASIC develop cost in 2022 on: December 20, 2021, 03:47:01 PM
Got several hundred million dollars to risk? ref this article from 2019

IC design costs also continue to rise. The cost to design a 28nm planar device ranges from $10 million to $35 million, according to Gartner. In comparison, the cost to design a 7nm system-on-a-chip (SoC) ranges from $120 million to $420 million, according to Gartner.
More to the point, once you have a chip designed you then have to test the design and there is NO guarantee that it will perform as expected. The Canaan A921 miner using 10nm chips from Samsung is a poster child for that -- actual chip performs around 50% of what modeling said it should run.

Fact is, if you have little to no experience in designing high performance mixed-signal chips you can dream but should forget about actually doing it...
876  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon A921 | Avalon Devices not detected. on: December 20, 2021, 03:01:21 PM
Hi, have you found the solution? Can share as I am newbie  with same problem 😭
As I said in a prev post, does the controller see the AUC3? If not then replace the USB cable with one that is known to be a data cable and not just a charging cable.

Also make sure that the controller and miner are running the same versions of firmware. Mismatched versions usually will not run.
877  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 841 CGminer API log decode.. on: December 19, 2021, 09:59:57 PM
you can daisy chain max 5 units per AUC
And even then it will impact performance of all miners on that string. Per Kano - who worked with Canaan a lot on the A8 FW - 2 miners per AUC string is ideal. From what I've seen running mine, 3 or more per-string and the error rate starts going up.
878  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: burnt PSU out cable and Hashboard connectors on: December 19, 2021, 09:51:05 PM
Something to keep in mind - do NOT plug/unplug PCIe connectors a lot! Even the best available are only rated for 25 mating cycles. After that the silver and/or gold plating is worn off and at that point they are more on-par with the el-cheapo connectors BM uses. Maybe the PSU has better connectors but don't bet on it. In any case, when moving miners around, try to keep the PSU connected to it. If any PCIe connector has been plugged/unplugged more than a few times you need to keep an eye on them, any white ones that start showing brown areas must be replaced immediately!

The power supply that is required for mining of coin does it stay constant till 24 hours time?
yes miners usually run 24x7x365 and pull full power the entire time.
