861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main reason government won't fully accept bitcoin on: January 25, 2023, 11:24:25 PM
The kind of people we have in government are people who always want to fight for their selfish interests,  anything that will surely benefit them. If it's something good that has to with better development for humanity as far as it won't benefit them they will surely go against it.

The reason government won't accept bitcoin is not because it is a decentralized currency,  it is because they won't be able to print it like they print fiat  to steal as much as they can .

If bitcoin is something the government can manipulate to steal public fund they would accept it even before now without any delay.

Well, this is partly true.
Another aspect is, that generally most parties / people are afraid of things
- they cannot control
- they don't understand
- that mean change of the exisiting system
- threaten their current status quo

Often this leads to decision making that is based on fear and a lack of understanding for the possibilities and positive change the "new thing" can bring along.
This also applies to Bitcoin.
862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi among us - for those of you not aware of his (/her) legacy in this forum on: January 24, 2023, 10:09:10 PM
The white paper is very short, 9 pages in total including references, anyone interested in Bitcoin should read it. It's available here: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Now, if someone wants to read it but wants some background to it, I recommend getting this book:

https://ignota.org/products/the-white-paper

It's basically a printed version of the white paper, plus some background about Bitcoin, and each part of the white paper is explained for the general population.

I enjoyed reading the white paper from a physical book, feels a bit nicer than reading a pdf on a computer, plus the book is a nice short read that explains why Bitcoin is important.
Another great link, thank you.
At some point may create a link list for Bitcoin-interested individuals, already had a nice collection before and recently got more and more great resources and recommendations.

I am certain it will be already within this century, that we see the Bitcoin whitepaper printed in schoolbooks. - Ofc it belongs in any good economics class, but could also be a good starting point for some interesting computer-science or math classes.
A lot of good stuff to come. :)
863  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ⏩⏩[AUCTION LIST] Auction for ColdKey victims of the apparent theft⏪⏪ on: January 24, 2023, 10:02:42 PM
Thanks for handling this, smoothie. And nice to see quite a few donations.  Shocked

[...]
So far we have the following parties that have volunteered publicly to help assist with the auction funds:
Minerjones
MoparMiningLLC

I'm in no way trying to dictate who should or shouldn't hold the funds.

As it currently stands the two individuals above appear to be trusted by the collectibles community to assist with such a task.

If there are no objections by the time Jan 31st rolls around, I will assume they will be the ones to take care of handling the proceeds.
I'd be suprised to hear any objections, sounds like a great way to handle it. Will it be a multi-sig thing or just split funds?

Also I was wondering how the auction should be held.
- duration?
- all in one or split up into 2, or 3 seperate auctions?

Personally I think a split into at least 2 seperate, maybe 3 consecutive auctions would be good to increase exposure to potential bidders. Length a few days, maybe even 7+ days, for the same reason.
Maybe there are other ideas?

866  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I discovered this service thanks to my campaign [SellDefi] on: January 24, 2023, 12:04:22 AM
I see some problems with a product like this:
1. How can the buyer verify the file you are supposedly selling is indeed that file? - Example, you promise a 600 dpi-high-res print file, but actually the resulation is just a 100 dpi file unsuited for printing. Any escrow in play here?
2. Generally, the problem with digital assets is you can just create as many copies as you wish once you aquired the file. So is there any mechanisms to prevent someone from buying your graphic for $10 and instantly putting it up for $8 to profit from it while at the same time killing your sales?
3. Right now it says you don't provide any refunds. As long as funds sent match the cost amount that seems fine. However, what if you send too much or too little? Wouldn't it be nice to also ask for a refund address before the payment can be made to "catch" these cases?

Despite that, neat and clean looking platform so far.

Answer to all these questions have been answered in our main ANN Thread.

what happens if a seller provide a description and upload a wrong file/damaged or just make a scam? how it can be trusted the contents? did you plan to make escrow on transactions?
what if there are virus/trojan/malware added to these files? did you plan to scan contents uploaded?
There is a note added on bottom of each product that files belong to seller and you must trust them. We do not provide escrow services but you will get what seller uploaded after making payment. Buyer must do that on their side.

Our system scans for viruses and we keep data encrypted so our system is protected. But for buyers someone can still upload a virus protected in password protected zip files so buyer must trust the seller before buying. That's why there is no option to view all products that are uploaded on our platform. Sellers only share links with their potential buyers themselves.

It is not an escrow platform as we cannot read files uploaded by sellers.

Thank you..

so that's what I was questioning myself about :
Quote
.. (not refundable) !!
#~ Once you paid, you have to download your product directly to don't lose it
#~ Once your browser close, you can't download it again !

 - why not provide a unique link for the payment page in case the buyer need to return to it in case of connection lost for example ??

 - you could make a field to the seller to put a description of the file or just an url to the description.. (or for anonymity it is possible to make to field just for an ASH of the description so the buyer can check it)! This as an protection for the buyer in case there is some that try selling inexisting items that they don't actually have ! .. like this the buyer may ask for a refund... So making the service like this do not do not provide any addition than just like making a direct transaction between to seller and the buyer!

There is a field to add description to each product. Maybe you did not saw it. Kindly check this product Link Removed

It is not like a direct payment. You can just upload files and then you can sleep after sharing your product link .People will keep buying and you will receive payment without need to always send them files each times. Also Buyers do not need to wait for you to come online to send you files. They can pay and get your products anytime. Consider it like you have 100 website codes to sell. You can add description of each product and maybe include screenshot or video links for your website demo. After one time upload you can paste links on services like pastebin and share pastebin link. You have just created a digital store. You don't need to make a website for selling your products. You do not need to manage payment addresses etc. Consider it in big numbers and you will see difference i.e 10k buyers of 10 products in 1 hour. https://selldefi.com/ saves a lot of time and management work and I hope people will start using it once they understand it.

Buyer always trust sellers in marketplaces like themeforest. Platform only provides guarantee that user will get files after sending payment which have been uploaded by seller. You can read complete details in thread. And if you are still confused about something you can post in thread and we will try to answer all of your questions.

Even if our platform does not exist people can still buy files from each other and sell at different rate to others. That's why we are not offering a public page to share all products there. Because some scammer can clone your file in cheap rate. As you can see in thread that ART work link of Medace is unique and you know it is uploaded by him. If someone else will claim he is selling same art people will not buy from him. Similarly a Youtuber can use our platform to sell their codes to their viewers by just adding a link in description or consider a Twitch streamer selling discount coupons or magazines to their viewers. There are lot of use cases.

My mistake, should have read your ann first. I did so now. Seems solid, even though probably similar services do already exist? Not sure but would be suprised if not.
Regarding refunding, you only mentioned the additional comment field. I'd highly suggest implementing a refunding field BEFORE the payment can be made, technical error can occur, connection lost, comma-error etc and it would be nice to have this kind of protection just in case.
Might try to use it soon, too.

so you can buy it for a minimum amount of about 10 dollars and so we will test the service together.  Good fun.

Price of your product is set to 0.01 Bitcoin. Not $10.
If it is not your desired price then create a new product with correct price.
He's probably just a bit slow. I mean 0.01 roughly equates to $10... In early 2017.  Grin

More questions to @bnbstorm:
- https://selldefi.com//1gO3GWpmbk0EdzJn4KRj/buy In this example we can see some stats about how many sold etc. Is this optional or always visible to buyers?
- How long do you keep files? How can people trust that you don't check the files or keep them forever or just a copy for yourself?
- You claim not to collect user data and for buyers and sellers to stay anonymous - anything to back up these claims?
867  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is there good wallet decentralized app ? on: January 23, 2023, 11:49:42 PM
Electrum/mycelium for btc, alpha wallet for eth + other evm chains and usdt  (non custodial + open source), lastly for debit card thing you could use prepaid cards loadable with crypto.
What is Alpha wallet?
https://walletscrutiny.com/ gives me an info it's 3 year old discontinued and google search brings a website which times out.
A good recommendation for open-source smart-chain wallets would be appreciated.

Regarding your prepaid card suggestion... I am not aware of any non-KYC let alone an "open-source"/decentralized solution for that.
868  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] CryptoImperator Silvers: Halving, Rocket, Satoshi to the World on: January 23, 2023, 11:46:11 PM
Congrats to the winners, nice battle to watch.
Quick question about the halving coin, was it 100 made? Or more? Asking since the sold serial was #100. Thanks.

Edit: Oops, I just ansered my question: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1539742.0
Apparently 100 minted, first 25 were gold plated (never seen one fore sale o_0).
869  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin threatened by digital dollars? on: January 23, 2023, 11:32:58 PM
No.
The End.

Oh, and yes, you already answered your question. The DD is indeed not decentralized. Nor is it cencorship-resistant, nor boderderless, nor will it be immutable.
It's like the fiat dollar combined with Bitcoin - except that you only take their disadvantages, despite the fact you can do instant transactions.

Quote
It could also "protect against cyberbullying and operational risks, safeguard the privacy of sensitive data, and minimize risks of illicit financial transactions."
What a bunch of BS. - If it indeed is safeguarded against cyberbullying it would mean there is a centralized instance with FULL access to any funds and transactions at any point in time - the total surveillance currency. Geroge Orwell's darkest dream.
Actually everything stated in that article points towards a 100%-controlled currency. Which is the most anti-freedom-anti-American-spritit thing I could think of.

Tiny update.
Mini-prints arrived today. Now needs some preparation, I will get the US package on its way tomorrow, to MJ. He will help with redistribution.
Any other countries get theirs directly from me.

If you already sent me a dm (or posted here) you will get your print. If not, please do so now, including a photo showing you own a ck with my daemon design. Thanks.
874  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Scammed/Peeled by Coldkey on: January 23, 2023, 01:40:23 PM
will there be anything added to the OP about cards that never got funded?
unfortunately, no. this is primarily about the incident almost 2 weeks ago, where all the halving sets were swept up

@MoparMiningLLC
to the other open orders (from the time when i had nothing to do with Coldkey) there will be a separate thread soon too

@TheBeardedBaby
i see the money/investment as lost unfortunately Embarrassed
You offered to refund my unfunded card which I gladly declined.

I think the auction with donations would be a good starting point to also distribute funds of those affected by unfunded cards.
Has there been any discussion so far on how the funds would be distributed?

Also, I don't have an overview but from the OP it seems 46 swept halving coldkeys were refunded by cygan. The remaining are probably either declined refunds or from owners that didn't show up in the forum yet.
Wouldn't it make sense to refund
- remaining swept cards for anyone that declined refunding from cygan
- unfunded ck cards
- open orders
from the auction coming up?

Ofc it needs a txid or clear evidence for payment / ownership of these cards.
Any loans given to yogg could possibly be compensated if there are funds left after refunding (which doubt) but I think these are private contracts between yogg and the person giving the loan, making it a seperate issue from the ck exit-scam in way.

Happy to hear more views / suggestions on the matter.

I like to read from time to time the original messages.

Here you can find all the messages in an easy to browse way:

https://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org

They also have links to the early emails, and the source code.

It's a great window to the past, and you can get an idea of the foundation of Bitcoin.

Highly recommended reading.
Uh, I love this - merci beaucoup!
Already shared this link to some collegues and friends, great resource.

So I'd assume your answer to both of my questions is a clear yes.
Great to see again, that many folks seem to be familiar with some of Satoshis output. (even though it's of course a very biased lense looking through a bitcointalk post).
877  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is there good wallet decentralized app ? on: January 22, 2023, 04:46:52 PM

What is your understanding of a 'decentralized wallet'?

Atomic is closed-source and marked deep red by Wallet Scrutiny.
Same story with Exodus.

My goodness, nonce back at it again with the killer-links.
Shame on me, I wasn't aware of walletscrutiny.com until now - what an incredibly valueable resource to have!

You can try decentralized Coinomi desktop wallet from British Virgin Islands - www.coinomi.com - with Bitcoin and 1770+ various altcoins, exchange built in, and debit card connected for crypto buying. Wallet do not charge any fee for receiving/sending, only network fees.
Just wanna point out that Coinomi is neither decentralized (it should be clear by now that that's nothing to do with a wallet anyway) nor is it open-source code.
Also they tend to have terrible support when something stops working. Good example is their Monero wallet which was discontinued silently many months ago and despite promises to do so they never updated it. - XMR funds stored with them are unaccessable except for a complicated private-key export which also exposes the seedphrase for your whole Coinomi wallet. :<
878  Economy / Economics / Re: We are not out of the woods yet on: January 22, 2023, 04:34:39 PM
If you didn't know already, in crypto-land you are never "out of the woods". Last year should have been a wake-up call for anyone believing otherwise.
There is ALWAYS the chance of a massive black-swan-event lurking, prices can dump 20%+ over night if the circumstances are "right".

That being said, if you wonder what's going on with the recent tiny uptrend for Bitcoin, have a look at contrarian indicators - just before BTC climbed up from its 16k depths the general sentiment was as bad as almost never seen before for Bitcoin. - Check out PlanB and related analists for more info. https://dailyhodl.com/2022/11/24/quant-analyst-planb-says-bitcoin-btc-on-track-to-explode-by-over-500-heres-the-timeline/
