8641  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freebitco.in provably cheating on: January 02, 2019, 08:39:50 AM
I think they "gambled" on the fact that no one would waste that much time to prove that they ARE cheating.........  well,  they lost that bet.
I think they assumed nobody would stop using the site because of this, and from what I've read in this thread, they won that bet.

Bitconnect tried the same philosophy.  It ended well for them,  they are still in the top 50 right lol.  I wonder how their rebrand is going that they had planned.

Actually Bitconnect isn't even on the charts anymore because they're not being traded anymore (well, only on one highly questionable exchange). Their rank doesn't exist because the value of their market cap is effectively zero.

In your sig it says,

"Watch me rape Freebitco.in 24x7 with my gambling bot"

I dunno, from the way you complain about things it sounds like you're the one being raped.

b. 256gb is the size of a fingernail. not a server. and 256gb is 9 years of block data, not one day

Its twice the size of my hard drive. We already have a bigger block experiment underway (2 actually). Their blocks never come close to getting filled.

d. telling people to get off the bitcoin network, bitcoin network needs expensive transactions is not "helping bitcoin adoption"

Have you transacted in BTC lately? The median fee is around 8 cents. Not exactly "expensive."

e. using a non-blockchain network requiring to wait for co-signer to be available just to transact is NOT "new technology"

The way that they interact with blockchains most certainly is a new technology. I just don't understand your constant anger at LN. If you don't like it, don't use it. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.
8643  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Floyd Mayweather set for New Year's Eve fight in Japan on: January 02, 2019, 05:34:45 AM
The MMA experience of Tenshin Nasukawa is useless since its boxing rules. I was surprised that the fight was uploaded in Youtube after reading the rules set by Floyd, I thought the fight will not be uploaded since there's a media black out, I guess there's a change of plans and someone again earned from doing this.
Floyd - 1
Boxing and MMA Fans - 0

The fight video was pretty lame. Would Floyd have won if his opponent could have used his legs? I doubt it. Yet he was still strutting around like he had just retained his belt or something. It's hard to believe anybody made any money here except for Floyd.

Like many others, I'd like to see him fight Pacquiao again, but quite honestly I can't see the fight ending any other way than it did the last time. What would possibly change between last time and the next time? Both are getting older at the same rate after all.

You guys might want to check this out:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5092067.0

The fact that the guy posted this in the Altcoin Discussion board makes me think that it is legit and not some conspiracy generated by the freebitco.in devs. I know its only a $20 win but nevertheless it goes to show that it does happen.

Pretty much the most unsettling thing about this particular dice site is that the house edge is considerably large... I don't know why people who accrued large amounts of bitcoin would use it when there's alternative with much better odds... yet they still do...
8645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Lighting Netowork really scale and for what cost? on: January 02, 2019, 05:10:04 AM
These kinds of threads are interesting because they always bring out two contingencies of posters:

1. Those who are actively interested in ways to improve bitcoin's level of adoption.
2. Those who get angry at new technology.

The latter tend to forget there was specific rationale in keeping the block size limited.
8646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO]HoweyCoins: the only BitcoinTalk-endorsed ICO - GUARANTEED PROFIT on: January 02, 2019, 04:43:42 AM

Bitcointalk guarantees that you will never lose money with Howeycoins. Also if you pass the built-in IQ test you'll be like really smart.

I heard that taking the Howeycoins IQ test has actually been scientifically demonstrated to increase the number of neural pathways in your head. We should all be thankful for everything the government kind folks behind Howeycoins are doing to promote our mental fantasticness.

I want to learn it

This is an obvious example of someone who has not yet completed the test.
8647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Drama Queen of 2018 is professor Nouriel Roubini gz! on: January 02, 2019, 04:13:39 AM
Probably the most humorous moment to come out of Roubini's tweet spasms was his feud with Vitalik Buterin, who took a jab at his predictive seance prowess back in October:

I officially predict a financial crisis some time between now and 2021.

Not because I have any special knowledge or even actually think that, but so that I can have a ~25% (or whatever) chance of later being publicly acclaimed as "a guru who predicted the last financial crisis".

This started a funny debate between the two, in which Roubini accused Vitalik of failing to bring PoS to Ethereum since 2013 (2 years before the launch of ETH... hmmm).

In any case, I think Wright should have won the poll. He's got to be the biggest crybaby I've seen in the crypto space, since Roger Ver anyway...

8649  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambler was being robbed on: January 01, 2019, 04:21:03 PM
When we have crypto gambling why we need to go to the fiat based casinos,no one can rob your crypto currencies which is more secure and when playing in online more convenient too.

You can go around the this board and I'm sure you can find the answer. In hindsight, people loves to go to casino because they feel the ambiance and atmosphere, instead of just playing in your home with no one. You can socialized with other gamblers and even have free drinks. Grin

I'm guessing it was a real accident because if it was an inside job several cases should've been reported.

Gambling in a casino is never safe because anything can happen but it won't always happen. Even if you're with someone they could easily outnumber you.

You're safe until you go out and bring you cash with you and criminals has already followed you. He think he feels safe having all that cash with him, so its totally his fault.

I don't know how you could say "its totally his fault." ... Don't you think its probably the robbers' fault? They broke a few laws after all, therefore its probably more their fault. Of course the guy should take precautions, but anybody could be robbed at any time for anything, doesn't mean its their fault.

There was some guy killed over his cell phone a few blocks from here a couple weeks back -- was it his fault for looking at his cell phone on the street?
8650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Endor - Fast and accurate results for predictive questions. Sale April 2018 on: January 01, 2019, 10:46:16 AM
With 2019 fast approaching, we're looking back at what Endor's done so far and what's to come this next exciting year.  This recent article best sums up our excitement for what's to come: https://www.siliconrepublic.com/start-ups/sci-tech-100-2019-entrepreneurs

What endor has done:

- Rip off
- Rip off
- Rip off

Did you buy in the ICO, or what's your gripe with this project exactly? It's one of the more interesting projects to come out of 2018. It actually has brains and real-world utility behind it, not to mention it already has a working product. Most ICOs collect money first and worry about developing a product second. With Endor its been the other way around. Sorry if the price hasn't worked out in your favor but if you haven't noticed, the entire market has been in a slump for quite a while. This token is just 6 months old, give it time.
8651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Daedalus Wallet for Cardano (ADA) Is A Shit Wallet on: January 01, 2019, 10:23:28 AM
To their credit, the developers did actually fix the wallet and I sold my coins ASAP. Glad I did.

It was too little too late, as the price has plummeted some 89% since I wrote my OP.

Wow, I sure was cranky back then. I've felt better since, probably because I dumped all my ADA before the price could have the chance to go negative.

This coin is a brain in a hat, and not much else. Absolutely no real world adoption or utility. If you don't believe me, have a look at their block explorer... 5 empty blocks out of the last 8.

8652  Economy / Speculation / Re: CSW's "hash wars" impact on BTC price on: January 01, 2019, 09:31:27 AM
Back in 2011, 'everybody knew' that we would just bump up the block size before blocks became persistently full. But no. Veer left -> ludicrous tx fees -> loss of dominance.

And what are you talking about, "loss of dominance"?? BTC has always been the most dominant crypto by a longshot. It rose in market cap dominance from 38% to 51% over the last year. Meanwhile BCH fell from 7% to 2.2%...

https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/#dominance-percentage

He's pointing to the fact that Bitcoin had dominance in the 80-95% range for years until it cratered ~ March 2017 and never really recovered. I think the drop can be generally attributed to the altcoin bubble and the launch of an unprecedented number of altcoins and ICO tokens. It's a stretch to blame it all on rising Bitcoin transaction fees, although I'm sure it played some role. Many altcoins were marketed as low-fee alternatives to BTC during the bubble.

Right, if you look at the chart I linked, the only category of coin gaining in the past 2 years is "Other," which signifies almost the entirety of the altcoin market (sans ETH, BCH and the handful of individualized others). There's been new coins coming on to the market ever since I've been here, but the fact is, BTC has remained far and away #1 the whole time. It's only gained worldwide popularity since then. Just because it equates for less of the total market cap space doesn't mean its utility has been diminished.

All other coins were inspired in their creation by bitcoin. Some are trying to do things bitcoin can't, others are simply riding the crypto wave. They are all dependent on the continued success of bitcoin, as BTC is the least risky investment of a high risk investment category.

Also, during late 2017 Ver was purposefully increasing the average transaction fee and spamming the network with transactions just so he could make the point of saying, "See? Bitcoin is too slow and expensive." After he ceased his manipulation, things went back to normal.

8654  Economy / Speculation / Re: CSW's "hash wars" impact on BTC price on: January 01, 2019, 08:42:32 AM
Is market cap of all coins the "standard" used to measure "dominance"? I believe that's flawed because the market cap of many coins are not justifiable, because of very low liquidity. Plus most of the altcoins' market caps are based on speculation, not real value.

Yes, you're absolutely right -- the market cap can be easily manipulated. I'm a cryptocurrency writer and its my job to research coins that break into the top 100 by market cap. I'd say about half of the coins I've written about in the past 3 months are tokens that found a way to manipulate coinmarketcap.com into showing them bursting onto the scene with 300% gains over a 24 hours period. They're a dead giveaway because their volume is tiny compared to their neighbors in the ranking.

Take for example FREE Coin.... It's value should be as close to zero as possible, but whenever it gets listed on a new exchange for 1 satoshi, some idiots (or else the pumpers) buy it to raise its average price... Pretty soon a meaningless token with a 10 trillion supply is sitting in the top 40 coins. CMC takes note of this and eventually excludes the new exchange from their averaging as such an exchange is considered an "outlier" compared to all the other prices. This has the effect of rightfully reducing the token from a top 40 to a top 800 coin.

Back in 2011, 'everybody knew' that we would just bump up the block size before blocks became persistently full. But no. Veer left -> ludicrous tx fees -> loss of dominance.

You think Etherscan is an exchange? Oh lordy, that's rich.

What exactly is it that you are a "researcher" of? Surely its not cryptocurrency.

Not only do you think Etherscan is an exchange, but you managed to post the wrong contract address. Your link goes to YouTube Coin, which is entirely different from YuTuCoin!

Who feels they have been scammed?

Hmm... Nobody answered. A pretty lonely challenge.

8657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin vs fiat; why bitcoin will eventually succeed on: December 31, 2018, 08:47:05 AM
Bitcoin has already succeeded. It hasn't died, has gained tremendous value since its inception, and is being built upon every day. It has inspired an entire industry and a new asset class, been imitated a countless number of times and is the standard for the hundreds or thousands of cryptos trying to rival it.

As a lot of alt cryptos are just trying to establish a niche within the digital economy, bitcoin is establishing a niche among currencies. Its main competitor isn't fiat; its just an alternative to fiat for those looking to use money in ways fiat cannot accomplish. I think any scenario where the dollar is in serious trouble, bitcoin will be in as much or more trouble, as it requires a flourishing economy to sustain its own value.
8658  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Floyd Mayweather set for New Year's Eve fight in Japan on: December 31, 2018, 06:36:26 AM
I know we can't watch it, and I'm not too keen to seek out how to bet on it, but it would be absolutely terrific if Mayweather could be taken down a peg. The dude is a dangerous role model: putting things like ego above education and greed at the forefront of all else.

I know its an extraordinary long shot, but stranger things have happened. Remember when Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed in the second round of an exhibition match? Lol.
8659  Economy / Speculation / Re: CSW's "hash wars" impact on BTC price on: December 31, 2018, 01:57:22 AM
BTC survived pretty well for being in an apocalypse.

Yup - went from routine greater than 85% dominance down to less than a third. Such success.

Compared to every other cryptocurrency ever, yes, its been a resounding success. No coin has ever come close to surpassing its market cap dominance or popularity. The rest of the world is still coming to terms with the idea of bitcoin and there are a bunch of ego-driven snobs doing everything they can do confuse them for their own personal gain.

yeah, i lost my only chance to buy cheap bch at $92

Yup! BCH price was going up very fast, i missed the chance to buy at below $100

Of course, next week you may be looking back thinking 'I should have bought when it was below $300'. Don't be that guy.
Aged badly?

Admittedly. Though tomorrow is another day.

$10 says you'll be wrong again tomorrow, and the next day, and many, many more to come.

Let's conduct an informal poll.

When do you believe BCH will reach the $300 mark?

That's an 84% rise from here. That means BTC will have go up somewhere between 50 and 60%. If SV keeps chipping away at its fanbase, it might be a lot longer.

My official guess is late February at the very earliest. Let's put an exact date on it: Feb 25th.

I'll be back either then or before then to admit I was wrong, though I doubt that I will be.
