8661  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 03:40:09 PM
I added another reason to leave the forum as requested by a few members. You can now also vote for the admins removing or banning signature campaigns as a reason you would leave Bitcointalk. Since 5 votes are allowed per user and I added ticked the box that you can change your votes, everyone who wants to vote for the new option can now do that.
8662  Other / Meta / Re: Need help about account on: May 18, 2021, 12:49:43 PM
from now on I will focus on my new account
You don't seem to have understood what DdmrDdmr told you. You, as in the person, is banned from Bitcointalk. Not just your portgas313 account. The account fokuscomeback that you are using now, will also get banned for ban evasion if someone reports you.

The only think you can do is to try and get your original account (portgas313) unbanned by creating a new thread and appealing for the ban. If the reason is PM spamming, one of the admins might forgive you because a few years have already have passed since the incident. You will only know if you try.
8663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 18, 2021, 12:31:16 PM
Match fixing is a relatively new phenomenon, at least as far as cricket is concerned.
Due to the way the game is played, spot fixing in cricket, which involves only manipulating certain small segments of the match, wouldn't be that difficult to do and it can easily be concealed from those that don't need to know. Be it the federations and anti-gambling committees, or the fans. Unless there is proof that a player was bribed, or there are records of calls or SMS messages, how would you know about it. A player can always he played badly for this or that reason.
8664  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 11:29:52 AM
The reason I would leave Bitcointalk will be lack of interest in cryptocurrency (as a technology/opportunities it gives)
I considered adding loss of interest as a separate category, but in the end, that also somehow fits inside "Age, family, life, and/or personal problems prevent me from being active".

Death.
That's another personal reason to leave the forum. See you in the next life Grin

Where's option "Theymos/admin remove signature feature" Tongue
theymos never struck me as someone willing to shot himself in the foot. He knows very well the traffic that is generated from signature campaigns as well as the altcoin boards. That's why there is no such option in the poll Wink
8665  Other / Meta / What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: May 18, 2021, 09:31:05 AM
Bitcointalk has seen many of its old-timers leave and never return to the forum again. There are many reasons why people make such decisions. Still, dissatisfaction with something that happened on the site could be one reason to give up on it.

Forums as mediums for discussions aren’t as popular among the new generations any more. Social media and platforms like Discord or Telegram have significant communities nowadays. But forums still have their charms. And Bitcointalk will always have historical relevance as the place where it all begun.

A study conducted in 2019 shows Americans prefer to use discussion forums in search of reliable information. 88% of all respondents replied that they are members of online platforms. 72% believe that forums share much more trustworthy and reliable information compared to social media.

With all this in mind, I have created a poll. I am interested in finding out the reasons you would decide to leave Bitcointalk and never return here again. You can vote for more than one of the given options. 5 votes per user is the maximum.
8666  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Velike kompanije su pocele investirati u bitcoin kao sigurnu imovinu on: May 18, 2021, 08:51:30 AM

8667  Other / Meta / Re: Why are "Likes" turned off in this forum? on: May 18, 2021, 08:41:57 AM
Maybe if we set upvoting function rules like only allowing upvotes to those people who got more than 10 merits or something might lessen the spamming activity but not guaranteed. upvotes can then be considered as one good criterion if the post is worth merit points.
That is still an unnecessary complication that we really can do without on this forum. I think we have bigger problems to solve than introducing likes and upvotes.

That 10 merit requirement is unfair towards newbies and jr. members and might be considered as a newbie jail. theymos has stated he is against introducing a newbie jail and I support such a decision. If there were upvotes and likes on Bitcointalk, newbies should have the option to upvote and have their posts liked and upvoted as well.
8668  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Crypto wallets keep you safe on: May 18, 2021, 08:32:45 AM
That is why we need to make high and  unique password key to maintain secured our wallet
That depends on what you consider to be a "password key"!? A password that encrypts your wallet file or a passphrase as an extension or 25th word of a seed. Although both are important, but forgetting the password of your software wont result in you losing your coins as long as you have access to your recovery seed. Forgetting your passphrase will cause you to lose all funds protected by said passphrase (unless you can bruteforce it) even if you have the seed.
8669  Other / Off-topic / Re: Online Game addicts=Worrying parents. on: May 17, 2021, 08:28:11 PM
I grew up with video games of all sorts, but I always knew when to stop. If I overdid it, I could always count on my parents to interfere and do the right thing. At that time it was to turn off my computer and force me to go outside to play with my friends or do my homework.

Some people are more prone to addictions than others, and if the situation is as dramatic as you say, that child has started going down a road the smells like serious trouble. His/her parents need to take a firm stance against such behavior. If talking doesn't help, limiting or taking away his gaming devices is what they should do. I was allowed to spend 1 hour on my computer playing video games during school days, and my parents made sure that was respected. I could not boss them around, and that is what that kid needs to learn as well.
8670  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Što nas očekuje u 2020. godini on: May 17, 2021, 07:54:47 PM
Ovo sad što gledamo nije ništa što nismo viđali i u prethodnim bull tržištima. Možda će još malo potrajati a historijski gledano, tek onda poslje počinje prava eksplozija. Prvo se tržište mora riješiti "weak hands" prije nego krenemo ka $80-100k.
8671  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Velike kompanije su pocele investirati u bitcoin kao sigurnu imovinu on: May 17, 2021, 07:32:22 PM

Rinse and repeat.

Dobrodošli u veseli svijet kriptovaluta.
8672  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: May 17, 2021, 07:17:13 PM

8673  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Funds Gone on: May 17, 2021, 06:56:58 PM
The associated address where the coins went hasn't had that many transactions. If he downloaded a fake Electrum app, I think the address would have seen much more action than this. It might be difficult to swallow, but can you rule out an inside job with 100% certainly? Who else has or could access to your computer and personal files that hold your secrets?
8674  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor One/ Trezor Model T questions.. on: May 17, 2021, 06:34:45 PM
Since you are using a Trezor device that has an unfixable seed extraction vulnerability that was mentioned in the previous posts, I would suggest you consider extending your seed with a passphrase for extra protection. Alternatively, you can also activate SD protection in Trezor T that allows you to save a secret code on a microSD card. That card would then be required every time you unlock your device to gain access to it.
8675  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Storing Cryptocurrency in Coinbase Vault Vs Hardware Wallet? on: May 17, 2021, 07:27:31 AM
if you don't want to buy a hardware wallet and you aren't comfortable with using a service like Coinbase Vault...
I guess you don't know jerry0 that well from all his posts in the recent years. jerry0 owns a Nano S. He owned one in the past as well, but its screen broke so he bought a new one. Check the hardware wallet section to learn more. There are dozens of posts and threads by him about passphrases, hidden accounts, Ledger Live, storing recovery phrases, etc. He doesn't need Coinbase Vault, he stores his seed on a password manager.  Roll Eyes

And yeah I almost forgot... any suggestions you make, will come back to slap you in the face because it's not going to change anything.
8676  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Crypto wallets keep you safe on: May 17, 2021, 07:17:15 AM
@pooya87
Don't pay attention to sujon5. He is shilling for Ownr wallet and does that quite often. Just look at his post history. Every now and then, he makes a post highlighting the "strengths" of that wallet. He mentions Ownr 3 times on the first page of his post history, 4 times on the second, 5 times on the third, and so on. Many posts are about how he successfully bought EOS with the wallet, etc.

Lumi is new to him though, and it will be interesting to see how much he is going to shill that. I guess he is moving up in the world.
8677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Fiat on: May 17, 2021, 07:01:38 AM
Look at it this way. By using an inflation calculator, you can figure out what the value of your fiat was back in 2009 when bitcoin was introduced for example. If something cost $100 in 2009, you would have to pay $124 for the same item now because of the inflation. What did bitcoin do in this timeframe? Bitcoin's value increased by almost 68000% in the last 8 years alone if the data I am looking at on CMC is correct.
8678  Other / Meta / Re: Why does the hyperlink button create a hyperlink in that format? on: May 16, 2021, 07:14:44 PM
I am asking why the hyperlink code is inserted in a format that requires editing when all other buttons have the correct format?
Because you can do things like google.com whereas plaintext google.com doesn't give you a link.
I wanted to bump this thread and saw your post.

How did you get the hyperlink google.com? You had to click the insert hyperlink button that gave you this:
Code:
[url][/url]
After that you had to add the = sign followed by the link to get this:
Code:
[url=][/url]
Why can't the equal sign be there from the start, that's all I am asking?
8679  Other / Meta / Re: Should all scam busting techniques be made public? on: May 16, 2021, 06:28:18 PM
For one, it is necessary to detail how you arrived at that conclusion to convince others as well. Even though it could be counter productive by making scammers more aware, it is a necessary system.
What I am proposing would only make sense if scammers and wrongdoers were banned by the forum admins. Since that is not case, it doesn't really matter.

Let's say you caught someone in the act of scamming. You have the needed proof to have him banned, but instead of revealing everything in public, all you need to do is present the evidence to those who make the decisions about who gets banned. That's theymos and Cyrus, and possibly other members of the staff who are included in that decision-making process.

Why only them and not the whole Bitcointalk community?
The Bitcointalk community doesn't have a say in who gets banned anyway. theymos doesn't ask the community if he should ban user X or not. He either bans someone or he doesn't. User X will be told he got banned and the reason why. If he wants more information or proof, he can take it up with the forum admins who again make the final decisions whether user X will be unbanned or not.

The usual Meta threads can still be started to appeal the ban or offer support to have user X reinstated.

But since scammers are not a priority, none of this will ever happen.
8680  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Cricket Match-Fixing Scandal on: May 16, 2021, 06:05:31 PM
@Pmalek. I would assume that most of the users here don't have an idea about the game of cricket.
Thank you for your inputs!

Based on your name, I can safely assume that you are from one of the regions where cricket is very popular, am I right? Are you familiar with this scandal that the Al Jazeera reporters stumbled upon? Were there any investigations carried out by governing bodies, and were any of the involved players or staff members suspended or jailed?

I would be interested in hearing about it from someone who absolutely knows what he is talking about.
