8681  Other / Meta / Re: cooldgamer abuse of the trust system on: October 07, 2014, 03:53:15 PM
Some may argue you were trying to abuse the system by attempting to essentially buy trust. You'll have to work it out with him, but I don't think he did anything wrong here, especially when you were quite open in what you were attempting to do.

i simply stated that i wanted to establish myself as trustworthy, and request to receive positive trust after completion of a trade. how does that warrant a negative trust. this is bullcrap

Can you not see how trying to buy trust to make yourself appear 'trustworthy' makes you the exact opposite?

i'm not trying to make myself appear as anything you fucking retard, i'm trying to prove my trustworthiness by completing a trade!

If you act like a teen you will not be treated like an adult. Hilariousandco is trying to give you a different perspective here and you react with insults. You ask people to missuse the trustsystem because you feel it has been missused. You also try to get green trust so hard one has to wonder if your intentions are honest.
There is no shortcut to trust here, deal with it.
8682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Big problem with wallet Bitcoin-Qt on: October 07, 2014, 03:01:40 PM
Try to relocate you original wallet.dat file. I think you bitcoin-qt create brand new wallet for you! Have a look at the address in the bitcoin qt and check whether it is the same as you had before.
thanks for the reply! the address is different! How do I reset the wallet attached to the original ?

You have to figure out what happened to the original wallet.dat. What OS do you use? Did you have problems with your hdd? Do you have a backup of the file?
I solved the problem by loading an old file wallet.dat backupped.
I'm glad but I'd like to know what happened !! Why there was this problem?
I use Windows 8

I can only guess, but the behaviour you describe is what bitcoin-core does when it can not find a wallet.dat file, it just creates a new one. For Win8 this file would be in %APPDATA%/Bitcoin, where %APPDATA% [1] is a specific folder that is related to the useraccount. So most likely something happend to your userprofile that cause the file to corrupt and/or get deleted.

8683  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: how to handle btc in javascript on: October 07, 2014, 01:50:59 PM
Internally bitcoin are handled as satoshi, thus there are no "float-problems". A division could still result in problems because e.g. 100k Satoshi / 3 would result in 333333 which might not be correct depending on your use case.

Guess you didn't get the memo

http://bitcoinvox.com/article/1041/satoshi-asked-wikileaks-to-avoid-bitcoin-in-2010

That guy will do nothing to help Bitcoin he is not our our savior. He ruins everything he touches. He is contaminated and should be treated as such.

Basically, bring it on.  Let's encourage Wikileaks to use Bitcoins and I'm willing to face any risk or fallout from that act.
No, don't "bring it on".

The project needs to grow gradually so the software can be strengthened along the way.

I make this appeal to WikiLeaks not to try to use Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is a small beta community in its infancy.  You would not stand to get more than pocket change, and the heat you would bring would likely destroy us at this stage.

Take a quote and blow it out of proportion. That article contains nothing but FUD. At least they linked the thread in question.

8686  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Tx signing via minimodem on: October 07, 2014, 06:11:09 AM
I haven't seen the videos, but how much better is that one compared to if I just store my keys as spoken words? Spelled out letters, or in morse code. (Number 1, small L, big U, etc.)

Its not about storrage of keys, its about transfering your unsigned TX from the hot wallet to your cold wallet to get it signed and back without risking the cold wallets machine to get some virus/trojan/etc. the hot wallets machine might have.

thanks for the reply Smiley i will try torrent

If you still have problems afterwards, try connecting to good (as in fast and reliable) full nodes. I collected a list over time, if anyone reading wants to add some, feel free to contact me to improve it.

You can either add them with addnode IP add from console or add them in your config file [1] with addnode=IP.

Code:

8688  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Public notes not working!!?? on: October 07, 2014, 05:54:54 AM
The protocol currently does not support a public note. I guess you used some sort of online wallet that would allow you to store such a note on their database and show it to the public when information about that transaction is requested. Blockchain.info maybe? If so, contact support.
8689  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: iPhone wallets that correctly use change addresses? on: October 06, 2014, 11:28:55 PM
Isnt that a bad idea for a phone? I mean you usually have 1, 2 or at least very few addresses on a phone in comparisson to the number you might have on a regular machine. But in order to send the change to a fresh address the phone would have to generate a new key pair and your backup would need an update. On the other hand if you allready have several private keys and addresses generated you could just add one of them as another receiving address.

Please lookup https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0032.mediawiki and https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawiki. With just one backup, you can securely generate an unlimited number of addresses.

Breadwallet always sends change to a new address.

Yes, a HD wallet would certainly solve the problem of the backup. I actually had that in mind when I wrote this, but I couldnt come up with one. I was more thinking out loud than shouting: OMG DONT DO THAT!!111 I recently tested bither and while I like the way you can generate keys, I dont like that they restrict the possible keys for a hot wallet to 10. Sadly no breadwallet for android, but I just read greenwallet is HD as well.

Shorena said, it is bad for a phone. Phones can be attacked easier than a computer. So it is bad. That's the point here.

   ~~MZ~~
Please explain to me how iPhone is more easily attacked than a computer.
Be as in depth as possible in your justification.

The problem is not the phone itself but the way most users handle their phone - or at least a lot, I dont have actual numbers here, its just something I observe when people use their phones. TouchID is just a gimmick and provides next to no security [1]. Passcodes and lengthy passphrases are barely used because it takes to long to unlock the phone. 4 or 6 digit PIN can be shoulder surfed as well as these patterns people tend to use. An additional risk for the patterns is that they show on the front of the phone when used with oily skin. This however has nothing to do with the way the btc wallet handles change and should just tell you that you should not hold more bitcoin on your phone than you would in your regular wallet.

8690  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Ninja Trader on: October 06, 2014, 10:51:39 PM
Does anyone uses ninja trader to graph bitcoin?
I would like to know your experiences, i've been trying to use bitconector without luck.
Does anyone know of another way to get real time data into ninja trader?
Would it makes sense to create one, anyone interested in buying the BTC data feeds for ninja trader?
I would like to find an existing data feed but if i can't find it i'll make one, i just want to know if this would be of interest to others.

Somewhere in this thread [1] are several explanations how to work with ninja trader for bitcoin IIRC. Read it a while ago, maybe around page 20ish. If you search for it in the print view you should find some hints.

8691  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit delete one off the request address and 2000$ gone on: October 06, 2014, 10:46:40 PM
Multibit automatically makes a new file for each address (or better private key) you generate. More about all those files here [1].

Please read this, it probably answers your question: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change

If I may: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Electrum/Documentation#Change_Addresses

its a little more about Electrum while explaining the same principles Smiley

@OP should you not find the "missing" coins in one of your change addresses, consider trojan.
8693  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trading Rules on: October 06, 2014, 02:31:19 PM
There are no set rules. Avoid trades vs. something that can easily be revoked (e.g. paypal). Dont accept 0 confirmations. Use escrow to increase security. Other than that apply general trading advice: dont rush, take your time double and tripple check, dont trade while your head is elsewhere.

Note: since you didnt specify "trade" I assumed digital goods.

8695  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Forgot my password of my BTC adress on: October 06, 2014, 07:20:53 AM
#1 write down what you think the passwors ia and copy pasta it into the mask, might be something with your keyboard settings
#2 write down several combinations of your password with your usual typos (e.g. just type fast without thinking about the keys)
#3 find the seed / hire someone to write a bruteforceattack for you specific passwords. A general attack will not work unless you have a very bad password. There are threads for that. They usually refer to bitcoin core, but reading them can give you a hint who to contact and what they will need and what not. If you used the same or a similar password elsewhere, change them all.
8696  Other / Meta / Re: Ads in posts on: October 06, 2014, 05:48:47 AM
+ I received permission in advance. Its his forum, his rules.

This sets bad precedence. Soon, more and more people will be asking if their OP is good enough to have ads. Where will the fine line be? Mods will then either have to objectively define what qualifies, or will have to constantly use their own judgement on every request.

Sig-ad overview thread by bitcoininformation now has one.  Sad

Yes, he asked for it in advance and is allowed to do so. There was a seperate thread for that.

8698  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: welche Software für die Geldbörse ? on: October 05, 2014, 08:36:38 PM
Hallo Zusammen,
