8723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin Must Be Inherited on: July 10, 2020, 07:49:43 AM
Something like a... bank? Cheesy

Indeed, some need a centralized something to keep their coins, promise they'll refund in case of troubles, handle inheritance and so on.
From the beginning of civilization there always were many people that need to believe in something so they can sleep better.

But the banks are good option. But not to hold the coins, no. One can rent a deposit box in a bank and store the seed and instructions for the family. Afaik safe deposit box can be opened either by the owner, either by the family, but in the second case the family has to provide death certificate. So yes, banks (their deposit boxes) can be a valid option.

You can just write your seed phrase in your testament, why not?

Because we don't want to give presents to the lawyers which may be handling the testament.
8724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: July 10, 2020, 07:34:00 AM
The info is off topic but if you have not yet noticed, payments for your works in June was credited 16 hours ago.

If it interests you to know when your tokens arrive into the wallet (GOLD or anything else) and if you use Windows, you can take a look at this application I've made some time ago:
https://github.com/neuro-fishy/FishyTokenWatcher

This should notify you at any change of the wallet content.
8725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Setting up Monero (XMR) daemon on a server on: July 09, 2020, 01:13:13 PM
P.S. I am sorry if posting about XMR here is prohibited, i didn't find that in the rules.

Prohibited or not, I think that you have better chance for an answer in Monero's actual discussion thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449
Maybe you could delete this and post there....
8726  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoins stolen from Electrum wallet on: July 09, 2020, 07:40:05 AM
so that it won't happen again in the future.

From the things you've posted, the keeping the seed in electronic format can be a weak point, I have no other clue. Or maybe somebody stole directly from your phone or your phone's files.

But one idea to prevent this for the future would he a hardware wallet. You generate safely a new seed in the wallet, you send the coins there, keep the seed only on paper (multiple copies) and you are good.
8727  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying 1 testnetBTC for $20 (escrow accepted but not required) on: July 09, 2020, 07:31:31 AM
Please don't pay for testnetBTC - that's against the whole point! Post your address and I'll send you some testnetBTC for free.

2NBp2TFqRwViWyAX1evFXtpZQJAefXtdKHD

OP, do you try to earn money from ads on the faucet? Good luck with that.
Looking at the history of your address I see that you've already received 5.7 tBTC, I think it's enough even for starting your faucet.
8728  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum Wallet and BitAddress Paper Wallet Creation for Newbies on: July 08, 2020, 05:45:26 PM
OP, if you really need only address+private key, (see my previous post about seed) a simple and effective way can be with a Tails OS USB stick.
The OS loads into memory, nothing is persistent (on default settings) and it has an Electrum on it.
If you stay offline from before booting from USB until shutdown, you have your safe environment. Safer than reinstall windows.
8729  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum Wallet and BitAddress Paper Wallet Creation for Newbies on: July 08, 2020, 03:55:05 PM
Electrum already creates a wallet for you that has a seed phrase that you can write down and use to recover your funds in the future.
it is best to write the seed down but if you wanted a single key you can still right click any address and get its private key (in your Address tab).

Just keep in mind that Electrum seed works only in Electrum.
If you want to create a seed that works everywhere, I'd suggest Ian Coleman's tool ( https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39 )

For just private key Electrum is fine.
8730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: July 08, 2020, 02:54:38 PM
Now it is better to compare GOLD token with other fiat stablecoins like USDT. They are still direct competitors. During the year, the GOLD token price rose 25% against USDT.

While I somewhat see you point, I don't like to bring (especially) USDT into discussion because USDT is not properly backed, hence my comparison with the actual USD.
(Also XAU-USD charts are available everywhere).
But since you started, I'll continue:

GOLD token is backed by gold and Tether USD is backed by USD. These two assests have different future.

The different future should also happen because while GOLD token is backed by gold, USDT is backed by a pile of lies, hence I expect GOLD token continue to rise driven by gold's scarcity and governments' printing spree, while I expect USDT fail someday (of course, there are plenty of other USD-based stable coins to take its place).

I also see USDT (or GUSD or others) and GOLD as different categories. USDT is for every day quick transfer of funds and GOLD is for long term safe investment. Hence imho they are not so much in competition.
8731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: July 08, 2020, 09:14:06 AM
I don’t quite understand how profitable it is to invest money through tokens, and not directly buy gold if there is such a goal. What are the benefits of buying your tokens?

Let's say you bought in 18 June 1000$ worth of Gold token and you'd sell today. You would have earned about 40-45$. In less than a month.
Why that? Because GOLD token price is tied to actual gold's price. As simple as that.

You can find a chart of gold price on international markets here: https://goldprice.org/gold-price-chart.html

And since gold is going mostly up and the fluctuations are not as high as for Bitcoin, gold is considered by many a much safer investment. And GOLD token makes it easier.
Clearer?
8732  Economy / Gambling / Re: URGENT. just won 171 btc (5700x bet) on bitcasino.io and now im locked out on: July 07, 2020, 01:40:39 PM
We have seen this countless times, casinos find some technicality to get out of paying for HUGE wins and as you said ... Bitcasino.io has a bit of a reputation. (if you can believe all the things that are posted here on the forum about them)

Indeed. Congrats OP and I truly hope that you will receive at least a couple of BTC.
I find it hard to believe that they can and will pay up the huge 171BTC
8733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My hardware wallet was seized by US customs. on: July 07, 2020, 10:28:21 AM
BTW  Jet Cash case got me thinking about possible incidents with customs during border crossing. What if they   turn their attention to  to my Ledger wallet and require me to enter my PIN to check the fund I'm possessing. What the  best reaction should be in  this case? Would it better yet if  I never  take it with me on business trips abroad?

I don't think that's possible to do legally. They also don't check how much money you have in your online banking application, right?
What I mean is that they look for how much cash you carry. You can have as much as you want in bank.
And for Bitcoin, that has to be converted into a country's currency to count as funds.

However, let's say you are right and they care about your bitcoins. Do they know what a hardware wallet is? Highly unlikely. But let's say they know. You can enter wrong pin 3 times ("stress because of police") and you recover some other time from the seed. They cannot know if you have 1$ there or billions.
8734  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.0.1 and offline transaction signing on: July 07, 2020, 09:38:05 AM
Can someone guide me step by step how to do it in the new version?

First of all, I'd advise you try to also play with this Electrum a little on testnet. Testnet coins are for free and with some patience you can check each step.

However, for the current situation, you should:
0. Make sure Advanced preview is set in Preferences.
1. Press Pay, a new window will show up.
2. Check and press Finalize
3. On the new window you have an Export combo-box.

Edit: @BitCryptex: it's not nice to make a partial post and then complete it from/after others have written a complete solution after you.
8735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Visa-Backed Payments Platform, Currencycloud, Partners With Ripple – Is XRP in t on: July 07, 2020, 09:17:07 AM
I read much time about ripple collaborate with visa, etc. For me ripple look like trying to get new FOMO.

Ripple supporters and speculators publish from time to time alleged partenship and collaboration projects between Ripple and various big names.
From what I know the vast majority of them never happened or at least not materialized.

The "trying to get new FOMO" part is something I always think of when I see now such news about Ripple and everybody should be wary else they may get burnt.
8736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My hardware wallet was seized by US customs. on: July 06, 2020, 07:00:57 PM
This is stupid. You only need to know 24 backup words or 12 or 1 with brain wallet. Nobody needs to bring hardware wallet who want to move bitcoin to another country.

Indeed. I see bigger chance it was mistaken for an USB stick or similar and they were looking if it doesn't contain anything illegal or maybe they've tried to see if it's not something else than it looks (just a shell containing drugs or I don't know what).

OP, keep in mind that there aren't that many who know what Bitcoin is and even less who know what a hardware wallet it.
Also, OP, you may want to read this about KeepKey before you try too hard to work with it.
8737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: While using bitcoin there should be privacy on: July 06, 2020, 11:19:33 AM
Could you believe some people do not even know what wallet is?
I have seen some people not knowing what bitcoin wallets are. If you asked them what is bitcoin wallet? They will answer saying 'bitcoin wallets are the device for saving bitcoin'. This is actually wrong.

I am not surprised. Some 5 years ago I've met people thinking that Internet Explorer is the internet (!).
Back to Bitcoin, while the technology, blockchain, transaction processing, lightning and so on are advancing nicely, the education part is two steps behind.

People don't know what's a wallet, don't understand that the wallet doesn't actually hold the coins, don't know about the problems of custodial so-called wallets, don't know that being careless may cost them, don't know how to properly use a wallet, what's a transaction, how to adjust the fee, what is the problem with the small inputs, the confirmations and the fact that 0 confirmations can be tricky... and so on.
Learning to care about their privacy, as you see, is not even on the first list of things they are missing.

I guess that educating people would necessary, but people are usually lazy about reading and may do that only after they've done something really wrong. Also for whatever reason they may miss the correct info or not trust it. (keep in mind that many still start their search for Bitcoin from bcash website)
8738  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Make your own Trezor Hardware wallet for under $40 on: July 05, 2020, 11:07:49 AM
Is it worth the effort?

I don't think so

I also believe that it doesn't worth the effort if the only goal is to save some bucks.
If you are into electronics, OK, it can be an interesting (short) project, but if you don't, you may end up breaking some parts and paying more at the end. ("It's hard to solder those without magnification", even the video tells that).

Also keep in mind that a Trezor is nowadays 59 EUR, not 89 EUR, like the (start of the) video shows.

Overall, I liked the idea, I'm going to save the YouTube link and maybe even make it again before the end of this year.

If you want to make sure you'll have it, I advise you save the video (mp4) not the link. It's a more.. future proof option.
8739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Brave browser CEO apologizes for automatically adding affiliate links to cryptoc on: July 05, 2020, 10:52:52 AM
theverge.com/2020/6/8/

As you can see from what I've kept from the post, this is one month old news. This came at very few days after the ref links "feature" blew up in their face.
Indeed, many will keep Brave for the few cents they may be earning. For many others it was an obvious next step after KYC in a privacy browser.

Since I was not into BAT this was for me the point I've lost confidence in them and apologies won't fix that. So for me it was an eye opener.
Then I've researched for something better than Chrome and Brave and returned to good old Firefox, which is better and safer than the two and it's more robust, better made and doesn't lack important features like Brave does.
8740  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.0 got released on: July 04, 2020, 05:33:50 PM
Any suggestion why I am seeing this information and not letting me to spend my coins?

It does let you spend. The only difference is in UI: you are not sent directly to Send tab, you have to go by yourself and it doesn't show the input(s) there, but it will spend from the address you wanted.
Since you have advanced view, that will be visible (much) later and you can check the correctness.
So all is good, although a bit strange for me too.

Advice: play a little on testnet  Wink
