It's possible something is wrong with your virtual machine. On a clean system to run bitcoind 1GB should not cause the process to die. Check also your diskspace assigned just in case.
There is nothing wrong with my system. I have no swap (thats the main reason) and other running daemons (no clean system). Additionally there is a memory leak on bitcoind. There is no memory leak on other crypto cur. daemons like namecoind. Namecoind releases the memory it reserves. or it could be because bitcoin's memory pool (aka transaction list) gets larger, whereas namecoin stays the same. not really namecoin has the same growing rate like bitcoin. u should know that the protocol regulates the speed... thats just an unqualified comment and its totally off topic... the problem is solved and this topic can be closed, i dont want a bitcoin vs. namecoin discussion |

If someone where to start a new pool or maybe even proxy P2Pool, what could they provide that all of the other pools don't already provide?

Kann man da auch eine Auszahladresse angeben oder wirds auf den Wallet von namecoind ausbezahlt? Wie bekommen es Miner die sich an meinen p2pool anschließen?

Habe auf dem System Bitcoind und Namecoind am Laufen.
Wenn die sowieso schon beide laufen, ist das "Mergen" auch keine Kunst mehr, einfach an die Start-Parameter ein --merged http://rpcuser:rpcpass@127.0.0.1:7333/ hinten dranhängen, fertig.  So einfach? Wunderbar! Danke |

I have been able to run bitcoind on a VPS with just 768MB of RAM + 256MB vswap (openvz). Of course it only stays up for about a week before dying. This was with bitcoind 0.8.3. I thought they fixed this memory leak issue in 0.8.4. Anyway you can install monit. It will automatically restart the daemon if it dies.
BTW this thread is a little strange. The interaction between the OP and imrer seems a little artificial.

Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe gibt es mit jedem gefundenen Block eine anteilige Auszahlung?
Muss man dafür seinen eigenen Node betreiben oder kann man sich an einen anschließen? Was wäre da dann der Unterschied? Was ist sinnvoller?
Der Aufwand (Zeit+Geld) einen eigenen p2pool-Node zu betreiben lohnt sich nur wenn man Spaß daran hat;) - so wie ich dann kann man auch noch mit merged mining herumexperimentieren. Wenn Du Dich irgendwo mit drauf hängen willst nimmst Du einfach deine gewünschte Auszahlungsadresse als user pw egal Es gibt auch einfache Grafik Stats auf denen Du dann Deine Hashrate und die zu erwartende Auszahlung siehst: siehe z.B. http://78.46.88.136:9332/static/graphs.html?Day (ja der wird von mir betrieben - Gebühren =0 http://78.46.88.136:9332/fee) Eine Liste aller bekannten und frei zugänglichen Nodes findest Du unter: http://p2pool-nodes.info/Ich habe mich mittlerweile dazu entschiedenen meinen eigenen Node zu betreiben. Cool, so do you think 1gb ram + 2gb swap could be enough? Btw how much do you pay for that VPS, where you can't create swap?
5€ per Month 1GB Ram +2GB Swap should be enough but it depends on your system, what other daemons are running, etc. Please consider that 1GB Ram + 2GB Swap will be full someday, so you have to restart bitcoind. If you're downloading the whole blackchain, this day will come fest (maybe in few hours  ). |

A part of addres space doesn't have to be available all the time and can be sourced out. Additionally it avoids that important processes are killed because no memory is left. In my case, i can't use swap (virtual server, virtuozzo) so i have to buy more ram :-( What you can do is restart it everytime it dies. After the whole blackchain is downloaded just restart bitcoind, it will eat less ram than before. |

Das Problem an dieser Stelle ist leider dass ich nen vServer habe der über Parallels Virtuozzo läuft. Ich weiß nicht obs an Virtuozzo oder an meinem Provider liegt aber ich darf/kann keine swaps erstellen. Partition geht schon garnicht, über eine SWAP file ging es leider auch nicht. Der Kommentar meines Providers: SWAP unterstützen unser vServersysteme nicht. |
