I just wanted to say that after DarkSend, I have something amazing up my sleeve. I think this next project will actually define Darkcoin, plus it requires being built on top of a p2p currency to function correctly (and it's privacy centric...) .  I don't want to say more, because I want to a ways into the development before I announce it  Grin

I've been thinking about how to do this for months and just figured out the logistics of how it would work this morning... very excited  Wink
Is it bad that I touch myself to this?

Maybe pinching would be less X-rated Smiley

Can somebody please pinch me. I must be dreaming. ZeroCash and anyone running a zerocoin implementation (anoncoin) needs trusted third parties?

Skip to ~ 24 minutes for the 'So whats the catch?# bit

What am I missing from the, duh, trusted third parties needed to enable a decentralised anonymous coin and knows where trap doors are?

bump

LOL, thing is Darkcoin's claims are real.  Hopefully people will eventually appreciate that as much as we do Smiley

I could set up the wiki to be English & French (or I could setup the English wiki on darkcoin.eu which I also own).
I didn't thought nobody would make a Wiki in English, that's why I focused on the French one.

In a similar vein, I think it would be great if we could move the more general chat over to Darkcointalk (https://www.darkcointalk.org/) (or the reddit). It's hard to follow one giant meandering thread. Plus some day Darkcoin is going to have to move beyond a single thread on a bitcoin forum Smiley

Ditto, not to mention I get to use my awesome TanteStefanaBot avatar made by darkplatypus there!  I just love her!!

Here's an interesting Darkcoin experiment.

2 days ago, I've mentioned cryptocurrency idea in general to 4 people with different backgrounds, job types and relation to me.
I've suggested sites and places to read, and also mentioned main types and several coins (bitcoin, litecoin, vertcoin, darkcoin, nxt).

Yesterday, the following happened:

Person 1 invested into ~3000 Darkcoins
Person 2 initially wanted to start mining, but instead invested into ~1500 Darkcoins and ~1.5 BTC
Person 3 invested into ~2000 Darkcoins
Person 4 was not interested in the concept at all (I wasn't surprised, this person always fails to look more than week ahead).

These people were not interested in trading or daily rate watching. Long term investment.

I was very surprised how quickly people acknowledged powerful idea of cryptocurrencies. Darkcoin choice didn't surprised me.
Only natural - with solid team/plan/community this is one of the safest bet (not to mention price fluctuations compared to other coins), and with the anonymity implemented the run for darks is going to get real.

In each case there was however one complain - about unnecessary difficulty of having to buy BTC first.
I'm sure if we there was DRK-fiat exchange, this would brought a lot more people in, also helped the coin to uncouple from BTC rate.

BTW - I would suggest adding "First X-11", "Real dev team" or something similar to the topic.

This is really awesome to hear.  I have no idea if it has anything to do with it, but my friends are 50+ years old, and are not so easily swayed to something new.  I've gotten polite "that's interesting" to "yah but..." etc...  My kids get whatever we have, so I'm more interested in giving my nephews, who have currently no interest in finances, paper wallets of darkcoin, so that when they're older, and finished with school, etc... they'll at least be invested enough to take an interest.  I hope it will be something good for them in the long run future, to be ahead of the crowd??
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | DGW | ASIC Resistant on: March 23, 2014, 10:04:57 PM
I keep reading people saying that the people who mined in the first 24 hours of this coin mined 2 million coins, so I just couldn't believe that could be true.  The highest block reward was 500 coins, I remember the difficulty going up pretty quickly, but even if it didn't, and the block reward stayed at 500 coins, the most that could have been mined is 288,000 coins.

I just want to set the record straight.  People really exaggerate - a lot!

Given such a definitive statement that "the most that could have been mined is 288,000 coins", can you describe how you came to such a number?

I was proven wrong.  I wrongly assumed that the blocks were kept at 2.5 minutes, which was not the case.  I should go back and say so in that post.  Will do.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | DGW | ASIC Resistant on: March 23, 2014, 09:58:41 PM
Why is people still mining this with 35% profitability compared to LTC?

Obviously you haven't seen this or you wouldn't even be asking that:

Darkcoin mining profitability model.

The algorithm begins with the n+1 bit state . That is, the first n bits are each in the state  and the final bit is . A Hadamard transformation is applied to each bit to obtain the state

We have the function f implemented as quantum oracle. The oracle maps the state   , where is addition modulo 2 (see below for details of implementation). Applying the quantum oracle gives

For each x, f(x) is either 0 or 1. A quick check of these two possibilities yields

At this point the last qubit may be ignored. We apply a Hadamard transformation to each qubit to obtain

where  is the sum of the bitwise product.
Finally we examine the probability of measuring

which evaluates to 1 if f(x) is constant (constructive interference) and 0 if f(x) is balanced (destructive interference).

I'm gonna pee my pants here.  Not sure if this was to be funny, HammerHedd, 'cause I would never know how to interpret those equations but if it were serious, when combined with  my husband's quote above, it's perfect, LOL.

hyunsookmom I'm not going to quote you because I really don't want to give you anymore exposure. I'm not saying a new from scratch crypto wouldn't be a big deal I'm saying a post that's like "I dumped my darkcoins. here's a links. thoughts?" is very unsubstantial. Your original post is barely a complete thought so I just find it a bit ironic that when dismissed in a curt manner you get all buttmad and carry on about how you want a real discussion.

The first few were really funny to read, but quickly got banal.  If you (meaning everyone) haven't already, I suggest ignore  Cool

I decided to dump half my Darkcoins today because of this coin. I fear if legit it could make Darkcoin obsolete and holding it will be toxic. I'm gonna be on the sidelines until I know anything different.

IPO scamcoin LOL!

Officially the most tedious response to all things people don't understand and have no intelligent response to on Bitcoin Talk. Just copy and paste your opinions gathered from the masses and fax it in next time.

Put your money into Spark and get happy. That's all I have to say after reading your comments. See you!

So you don't fear another coin having lots of features and also having the main feature than Darkcoins price is based solely on. Uh ok....See you!

Problem with forums people get caught up in their little sector and get so damn defensive about their precious coin and simply can't have a discussion that is balanced. Who knows you could of successfully defended an opinion that had value, instead its hey get off our land your not welcome approach. So you can't mention altcoins on bitcoin section you cant mention NXT to miners, you cant mention NEM on NXT, it simply becomes a kiddie gang thing, kind of retarded but whatever....

LOL, fear them everyone!

Shit, I'm feeding the troll, but it's just too funny not to re-quote, LOL

Ok, so we had some great entries for the 2-5 sentence layman's explanation of DarkSend. In the end I went with TanteStefana's submission, since it's pitched at newbies, is to the point & concise:

Quote
DarkSend is an integrated technology inside DarkCoin that protects privacy by pooling like-sized payments and by hiding who paid whom.   This blocks the pattern-seeking detection methods that are used to break privacy by making them too difficult and expensive to pursue.  The developers of DarkCoin and DarkSend believe they offer users the best possible privacy protection available to any crypto-currency.

TanteStefana, PM me your darkcoin wallet address and I'll send the bounty through!

Very good! I think we should all be careful to remember the following though.

It's Darkcoin (with a small c) and DarkSend (with a capital S).

We need to be consistent with all our copy.

Oh, thanks Smiley  I didn't really think of that!
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | DGW | ASIC Resistant on: March 23, 2014, 08:56:49 PM
I'm handing this over to my husband, he has something to say Smiley  LOL  Grin

Not meaning to sound defensive, I think we need to explain why we wrote our entry (explaining how DarkSend works) based on a strict analysis of the assignment, which we took to mean "explain DarkSend to ordinary people in a few sentences."   This doesn't mean "explain DarkSend in full or even close-to-full detail" to those who are like the typical person on this board:  you are all extraordinarily intelligent, and such people rarely grasp what it means to be "average" in terms of mental functioning.

We guessed that the assignment was offered to help make DarkCoin and DarkSend a "big tent" offering, meaning that we need to make it accessible to all sorts of people - and not just the super-smart.  Look at a standard deviation or "Bell Curve" for I.Q. (if such a thing is "real" - it is controversial, but I think we can risk using this term here):  a vast majority of humans are in the big, fat chunk in the middle, while only a few are in the skinny tip at the right (smart people).  Average people aren't stupid, they can make great incomes (a plumber or an electrician can make a lot more money than a brilliant teacher or professor with several degrees), and we definitely will need them participating in this coin!  While "average" people are not stupid, they do lack mental stamina and a "reservoir of context," meaning that they can grasp new concepts but, without a body of related ideas in their minds (context) and the will to work it out (mental stamina), they tend to give up when confronted with bold new ideas.

That's why our entry "explains without explaining."  A true, accurate "nuts and bolts" explanation will do no good for this vast majority of human beings, who (and I'm not being deprecating by saying this) really just want to "feel they understand something" and don't really need to actually understand the thing, if you follow my meaning.  In other words, to make DarkCoin and DarkSend a truly "big tent" offering, we need to be open-minded and tolerant of the differences in our fellow human beings and appreciate that a vast majority of us will never actually understand any of this.  That, however, will not block them from joining us and using DarkCoin and Darksend, which they can use just like they use their microwave ovens, their GPS devices, and so on (none of which they understand beyond the level of "I push this button and out comes hot food" - they have little comprehension of the physics and economics that support their devices, but they are the backbone of endeavors and networks that thrive economically from their participation).

We humbly suggest that the DarkCoin community take these factors into consideration when judging efforts to reach out to the general public.  Thank you.

imho-
1. by hiding who paid whom.  => by hiding the transaction details (i.e. who paid whom)
2. This blocks the pattern-seeking detection methods  => This dissolves the blockchain's transparency and pattern-seeking detection methods

I know there were many more precise ways to write this, and boy, I really must have bugged LimLims as I sent so many ideas in, but my husband and I finally hacked that last one out.  The thing is, most of us here are technically minded.  Actually, this is going to sound really bad, but the people on this thread are going to be way at the top end of the bell curve.  I realized the assignment was to explain it to "normal" people, but it was hard!!!Write 2-3 sentences that explain darksend to the uninitiated?  Well, actually I don't remember at the moment, the exact words, but we finally wrote it for all of my extremely  normal friends and family, LOL.  So that the masses can get the basic idea, and if they wanted more information, they could dig deeper.

Anyway, that's why it was written so simply, yet we tried to show the two main steps that obfuscate the transactions and punctuate it with "it's the best available".

Thank you LimLims, I'm really honored, but need to read more of the thread Smiley

Silly me, I went to n00bnoxious' paper wallet, and made a couple of test wallets, I sent some small amounts into them then I quickly realized I wouldn't be able to retrieve the coin!

Is there a way to create a wallet with the password created with the paper wallet?  I didn't realize it wasn't functional!  Ugh, LOL.  Too bad, 'cause I'd love to put the little I have into cold storage, but only if I can get it out again!

https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/wallet-tutorial-add-withdraw-funds/

By importing pvrivate key to wallet.

Thank you for answering, but isn't that for bitcoin?  I made a darkcoin paper wallet, from n00bnoxious' fork Smiley

You can do it from darkcoin-qt wallet.
If importprivkey is not in menu, you can use debug window.

importprivkey <darkcoinprivkey> [label] [rescan=true]

Awesome, I assume I need a fresh wallet for that?  Thanks!

Well, I feel very silly because I thought, oh, I should put what I have somewhere safe.  So I made a couple of test wallets to see how it goes, I sent each one 0.1 dark, and ...... realized there was no place to go and redeem my dark!  lol, it's not a lot of coin, but I'm so glad I was cautious!

So is there a place to go redeem our wallets?  Or a way to do it?  Thanks Smiley

Found out, for anyone interested, you use the importprivkey command in the debug window of a fresh wallet (I think it has to be fresh or you may mess up existing coins?)
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | DGW | ASIC Resistant on: March 22, 2014, 11:27:37 PM

2.5min is a target spacing. if a block found with in 2.5 min, diff up, past 2.5 min, diff down.
With lower diff ( 0.00xxx) , called insta mining..

Wow, what a mess! there should be a way to start it at the brink of difficulty  going to the next level and keeping it at 2.5 minutes, or whatever the desired time constraint is, but that's all water under the bridge now.  Wish it weren't so (shrug)

I'm not a programmer, and to be honest, I find that block explorer so confusing, that I can't see why we need Darksend, LOL.

Could you please explain a little further?  It looks like a block was generated 3+ times a minute?

http://explorer.darkcoin.io/chain/DarkCoin?hi=20&count=21

click the link.

As far as I know(might be wrong)

Block  : height / block no
Approx. Time : block generation time
Transactions : how many tx.
Value Out   : sum of tx value output
Difficulty   : diff
Outstanding    : sum of reward
Average Age   Chain Age   % CoinDD : don't know LOL

Do you have any idea why the blocks were created faster than they should have been?  I mean, aren't we supposed to have a 2.5 minute block?  Does this happen with the start of every coin?
