882  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk user Joerii passed away... on: September 21, 2023, 11:03:51 PM
A few days ago I got the news that Bitcointalk member Joerii (Joeri Pross) passed away, leaving behind a wife and 2 young kids.

A lot of you may have known him as he was one of the "oldbie" users on this forum and community manager for a lot of projects, like Factom.

He went missing august 30th and his body was found september 2nd.
That’s sad!
Never heard of him but, getting to know him and what this would mean to his left behind, young kids at that and what this would mean for them, growing up without a father figure coupled with the circumstances surrounding his death, that’s just awful. Missing for few days only to be found dead in 3days, it’s such a pity for him.
I really hope he must have planted a trail to allow his left behind have access to his crypto portfolio and accumulations.

May his soul depart this world to rest peacefully in the bosom of whatever he believed in and his left behind find the heart to condole this irreplaceable lose in there existence. Another lose of a forum quality from what OP speaks of him.
883  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Europa League Discussion Thread -- 2023/24 | Qualifiers on: September 21, 2023, 10:43:10 PM
It's a dream night for Brighton fans who are watching their team play European football in their grounds for the first time in the club history.
They are currently playing a 2 goal draw, but that will not deter the team or the fans from enjoying their night and making as much noise as possible.

The next agenda will be to become regular faces in European competitions and maybe look towards a Champions league spot in the coming years.

Edit; it's 3-2 against Brighton now, but the fans are still having a good time.

- Jay -
With this performance Brighton had against the AEK, they aren’t going nowhere with this sort of performance. Everything from AEK was spectacular but, you can’t say the same for Brighton. There defense wasn’t okay, you could find them living single players within the box, creating a next to impossible miss for the AEK players. Look at the first goal from E. Sidine, he was given enough space to express himself and he graciously directed the ball right to the far corner and hit result for his team. Same situation was created in the third goal for AEK but, Brighton could only follow up from the penalty situation of Joao Pedro who was very clever to create contact and executed the kicks perfectly.
Even with his both goals, Brighton still managed to lose. That was very unexpected for me. They had the home fans behind them through the whole game and after each come back, they immediately lose there lead as soon as they got them.
884  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [banned mixer] 🦁 Fantasy Premier League Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: September 21, 2023, 10:30:40 PM

The experience that many players have here playing is giving them an edge. I like to see when people recognize mistakes that cost them and from the experience avoid such from happening again. There was no last season for me, this is my first season and everything I am learning is from this season. I may not do as I expect this season, but I am pushing to see how well I can do in my first season.
Well, it’s an edge to have those seasons of experience on your belt but, it plays out more in your use of them wildcards, Tripple captain, free point hits, bench boost and how you maximize the double game weeks. The rest is just how familiar and up to date you are with the league and players.
Can’t say your doing any badly. Last season was my first, stayed close to the prices positions as could be, won fee game weeks but that was it. Don’t thinking your doing any badly but, you still have to watch it.

Jackson is only one yellow card away from suspension. GET Alvarez for your piece of mind; he's in the best shape of his life right now, and with KDB and Kovasic out, he'll always play behind Halaand; he's the team's best creator right now. I might also get him.
This is very reasonable, Alvarez has been very consistent for Manchester City but he has only scored two goals in the premier league and Erling Haaland with seven goals making him the top scorer presently.
Alvarez is trying to seal his place on the team and be very relevant and you can agree that his being doing just that perfectly. Either creating assists or scoring goals and you can agree that, his by far going to be futures more this season with the network his constantly building with E. Haaland on the pitch. We see that and Peps is leveraging it as only him could, a perfect game so far for his team.
885  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there anything unusual in these screenshot? on: September 21, 2023, 10:14:06 PM
Ranking up is not a crime. I can't say anything about this case without reading the posts,
You said it all in these few lines. Yes I agree them yo be unusual but, we have to come to terms with the fact that, the forum is run in English and being a global forum, you realize that some of the nations you would find here don’t have English as there first language. For those residing in those nations. They rely on translators to bring them close to understanding what goes on here and for the few that have learned the language, it’s just a few and a privilege for them.
Local boards I can find there are Pakistan and Bengali. Both of which are not native English speaking nations.

Hence, the unusual nature to it is justifiable by the posts which for good reason, you don’t wish to relate. It’s cool though but, we hope it ain’t what is perceived to be.

It’s a good find I must commend.
886  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Challenges that can deprive/ delay one from hodli for long. on: September 20, 2023, 11:59:30 PM
Some of these aren't challenges like trading, you can still be a trader and still also be a long term Bitcoin holders, I don't think hodling mean you should give up your interests in trading.
Good point. The idea to hodling is not having to spend and spend in terms of you having to exchange the coins for fiat or hvaing it involved in some deal that, you wouldn’t get back your bitcoins. Trading in most cases still leaves you with your bitcoins and you would be hodling something of great value as well.

Obviously, some of these reasons you’ve given do apply but, most of what I would like to say is that, the needs of a person when you don’t have an alternative source of income or satisfying your human wants makes selling your bitcoin to fill in for that want more easy. Yo be able to hodl, you need another source of income to fill in your needs and wants.

Hodling isn’t a most but, could be a necessity when you seek to get some profit through time without actively taking risk by trading.
887  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: what can ordinary man do on: September 20, 2023, 11:50:05 PM
Ahoda na bad place for Rivers State as na there all those cultist them plenty. The bad thing be say majority of them na inside bush them dey stay dey do this havoc. Just like wetin the soldiers them talk i no blame them because you no go risk your life go enter bush wey you never enter before. If i dey travel and we don dey reach Okube community i dey always pray make nothing make our bus stop for this area because na that place be those cultist their hide out.
I no dey very fund of generalization as, I sabi some Ahoeda people way dey very good and speaking of them to be bad people because of the few way don paint this picture no really make all the Ahoeda people bad. These murderers in question shah, these guys way be say, they were given an opportunity for a change but them refuse, it’s a shame the life way some people can choose to, to leave for bush with snakes and mosquitoes and without proper food just because, you wan Dey carry gun. E dey very tiring and disappointing on watin them Dey shah and I no sure say them think am through but, e no go make me say Ahoeda people bad shah. Them just get some bad eggs amongst them!

The insecurity for some part of our nation dey make traveling a hard decision and e no suppose be so. I wonder when the people way Dey cause these disturbances go get better understanding shah but, we need to change this narrative of a few bad people making the whole bad. Na so outsiders dey talk down on Nigeria too because of few bad eggs, make we no do the same to ourselves.
888  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Whenn last did you visit the bank? on: September 20, 2023, 11:36:47 PM
POS don dey around for some time now and the growth on the business don dey explosive way be say, e hard for you to walk around any corner for any urban area and you no go see at least one or two POS stand. This business don bring about the rise of plenty wallets (online banks: Monie point, OPay, etc) and these guys don make services cheaper and access to POS machines more affordable and accessible but, the skepticism side still dey.

You know goose calls way person go receive con dey tell you say, them be your bank manager and you go send them some code via say something dey wrong with your account… The thing don make some people to dey careful on how them dey use POS services and these categories of people still dey dey prefer inside bank than any alternative but the better be say,
E don drop wella.

The cashless policy and change of notes open Nigerians up to possibilities of easy and faster means to finance handling. E help banks too if you ask me. Less paper work and time spent in attending to customers as well as managing people. E dey hard me go bank for any of my personal transactions. Mobile banking and the availability of customer care support on the apps just makes banking a lot more easier and the charge on POS service no matter much for petty transactions.
889  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Improvement in quality posts on: September 20, 2023, 11:22:37 PM
Everyone needs motivation to give their best and if you don’t get rewarded for your work you maybe discouraged, maybe that have been the reason some of the members here don’t like to engage in discussions and who knows if it might have been one of the reasons none of our merit source application for our local board have been approved by theymos yet.

I think hugeblack and Cryptopreneurbrainboss have contributed much to this fantastic improvement. Let’s keep up the good work and give theymos a reason to approve our merit source applications.
Motivation is hardly a goal here and I don’t see it yo be better enjoyed when sort out for or when required. I think it’s sweet when it’s dropped on you where you didn’t expect it or having more on a work where you expected less. Trust me, I know the feeling from an early time but then, times change and now, I don’t know but, you could still discuss while expecting nothing.
Your offering your opinion and that’s the important thing. Your opinion goes out to help handicap an ignorant situation and that’s quite satisfying as well.

On the course of merit source application, I think some has been up way longer than many users on the forum but still, no approval and not just for the Nigerian board but, an additional to what the forum already has.
If there is one thing you should know, the forum changes very little and most times, out of the desperate need or to a wide range what the changes could bring.

I will continue to applaud those that continues to do there best and be active on the board like CrypyopreneurBrainboss. While we seek appreciation, are these guys been appreciated as well? It’s ironical when your not up the ladder.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They sent me btc to my wallet they were available and then they disappeared! on: September 19, 2023, 11:53:03 PM
Bitcoin deals greatly on trust and while trading with an unknown individual where there isn’t a third party to act as escrow involved, you’ve got to exercise a great deal of caution, knowing that this individual is a stranger, this individual don’t have much to lose once cash have been delivered to him/her and it’s your responsibility to ensure that, your coin is deposited safely.

Bitcoin transactions are irreversible but, this becomes the case only when there is at least one confirmation on the transaction. This is the only time when you can bank of the irreversible nature of the space to act in your interest.

In most cases especially when your using a custodial exchange like Binance and depend on its mail system or perhaps wallet history to display information on a transaction, it’s normal that, you would get notification on a pending transaction upon initiation of the transaction by the buyer.
That doesn’t mean you’ve been sent the coin. It simply means, there is a detection of a transaction on the bitcoin or Binance network. Untill a confirmation is done on it, the individual could attempt to double spend and cancel the transaction.

You ought to be more careful and can count this as a lose to experience.
891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I took a proposal to my State Governor to accept Bitcoin Technology on: September 19, 2023, 11:42:22 PM
I continue to be amazed by Nigerian people, by enthusiasm, openness to Bitcoin and such a strong spirit of taking things into their own hands. Of course, it's related to the op personally, this strong and brave decision to submit a proposal to the Governor's Office, and it's wonderful that such people exist and have the will to do things that can benefit a lot of people.
But I feel like this forum has really shown me that Nigeria has many strong pro-crypto people, although this is the first time I see a post where a person's trying to convince the government rather than do things despite what the authorities think.
When you live in Nigeria and you walk amongst the common people, get to know the people, the struggle they face and the awareness of your environment, it’s hard not to think for the common good of the masses as a morally just individual.

It just gets bad when, Nigerian citizens that once walked in the shoes of the nothingness majority of its poor masses face, forget the struggles of a time past, only to dwell on the success of today through marginalization and stealing of the common wealth of the people. Just a few do this and the law haven’t really been on the side of its citizens in setting things right against the corruption within the political ranks. Instead, you find them using it against themselves with regards to support and political parties.

In all, Nigerians continues with there daily struggles, picking interest and opportunity in the cryptocurrency industry and social media to better there lives. It’s explosive and trying to do the best for once’s self and the people is what we do.
892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Just HODL But HODL Wisely and Securely on: September 19, 2023, 11:33:30 PM
What sucks is that if most beginners just download a bitcoin wallet off Google PlayStore/Apple AppStore, chances are, they'd land upon an exchange wallet or a custodial wallet. The way bitcoin/crypto is now, you need to learn by mistake first lol before actually ending up diving deeper.
Experience is truly the best teacher but learning by mistakes has been some means to scare many people away from taking cryptocurrency or bitcoin investments. This is where the idea of bitcoin being some Ponzi schemes comes from in the minds of those failed investors.

I think this has made people more curious these days to ask questions but, with the trendy of Binance, I can agree with you that the ideal place for beginners and those that don’t know any better is custodial exchanges. Most see it for a wallet or some safe place to store there precious coins and it remains so because, they don’t know any better.

The few that are this enlightened are those that belongs to a forum and keeps being tutored on what is or obtainable within the cryptocurrency space. It’s often the case when you choose to invest before learning about what your investing in.
We can only hope they don’t get scammed in the process.
893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 19, 2023, 11:24:21 PM
Just recently, I was tempted to check my first ever Bitcoin wallet to see what I have done in the past. I was so depressed seeing the volume of Bitcoin that have passed through my wallet without me saving a reasonable portion of it.

I have the feeling that many forum users too have similar experience; do kindly share just maybe I can feel a little better knowing that I'm not a lone.
I might just have to snipe your first paragraph out as I don’t share the same ideas as you but on the later, it’s very much the case for me and like, I do that you know. I sometimes drop by to check my withdrawals and each time, it’s more damaging than the last I checked. Even with the idea not pegged on sending coins across borders without having to go through the rigorous checks and interview sessions at the bank.
I often come to a realization that, I’ve spent far too much coins than I am hodling at the moment. When I look back to what I’ve spent it on, am not 100% encouraged to have dealt it good as well.
Worst is, I still spend some more up to this day. I still get to top up my portfolio every now and then but, the idea of hodling don’t stop me from spending. As much as I spend, I do buy as well and my hodling volume ain’t that bad. Come next bullrun, I’ll smile some more.
894  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Is Bitcoin Price Increasing? on: September 18, 2023, 07:59:33 PM
Permit me to digress a little but then, you’ve got so many activities and still stock as a Jr. member. This made me dive right into your profile and posts to see why and the evidence was right in plane view. Your spending way much time running bounties than you should have. Isn’t that time consuming for you? Chasing after worthless coins and tokens. You would do yourself more good if you shift your focus from the bounty section and be more involved in other aspects of the forum.

3. Media : Bitcoin news, events, policy changes, etc. Journalistic events influence the price of Bitcoin.
The media haven’t been exactly pro bitcoin by crafted the news. You find them being more negative in other to entice the government and cover the truth or aspects that could really project bitcoin potentials. Someone, all the negativity leads to doubt and research which eventually breaks the truth and you find more investors pouring in.
Creating a demand and supply curve which is very much appreciated.

5. Investment: Bitcoin's value increases through various individuals, companies, and pneumatic investments.
I’m not sure on what message your passing on this one.
895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency beats having faits at every point on: September 17, 2023, 11:30:13 PM
"I don't really get why you'd store your money in cryptocurrencies," a friend asked me just a day ago, expressing skepticism about Bitcoin.

I personally enjoy the fact that I'm in charge of storing and managing my crypto assets without anyone doing it for me.
Aside from the fact that fiat is government backed, I don’t see any reason why people will always prefer to save in fiat currency on some local bank account and not have there savings in bitcoin rather. The doubt has always come in when it comes to the government perspective of them but, that’s how shallow or little they know of the currency.
If they knew any better, they would have found reasons to take advantage of this time that volatility is very much playing out on your hodlings over time.

Quote
Ever since I learned about the dollar-cost averaging (DCA) strategy on this forum  I've been committed to acquiring at least 1 BTC. It doesn't feel impossible anymore.
That’s the point, that’s why uou don’t have to procrastinate on buying bitcoin. You don’t have to look down on the little you start your investment with or continue to build a portfolio on. You have to understand that, it gets easier as you go and so long as you keep topping your portfolio, your goal of 1BTC is just at the corner.
896  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [banned mixer] 🦁 Fantasy Premier League Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: September 17, 2023, 09:04:29 PM
I hope this becomes my case as, I’ve got two players missing on my team @Isak @Estupinan. Isak has been one of my unproductive investments. Don’t know how I got him here and everything I imagined just stayed in my imaginations. Lamptey better substitutes his 7 points for one of my zeros, I need that.
Isak's zero minutes yesterday means he'll start the CL game this week and will most likely be benched again in GW 6. He is currently one of the most transferred out this week. The choice is entirely yours.
Like I said, his been a worst investment for me, haven’t made even avargeage points from him since he got on my team, Watkins even was a more better option and I did transfer him out to get Isak in. I guess I’ll just have to leak my wounds and see him out. Still have to contemplate on that over the week though.

It’s a rough week for me non the less. Having over 3 players to zero out on my team. A bitter lesson on international breaks that precedes the UCL. Worst still, didn’t spend much on my bench players and have got almost zero on everyone except for Lamptey. Naaahhh, not a great week although, it’s relatable.
897  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All business need to risk, so not only crypto! on: September 17, 2023, 08:18:21 PM
I think your subject wasn’t properly titled. Based on the content of OP, I think something like,
“All businesses has risks, so not only cryptos’ would have been more applicable.

All businesses involve risk so the reality is that you should have the ability to take risks.

Everyone says crypto Is high risk is it really true? My guess is less because a lot of people have had success with this crypto.
There is a saying that goes, ‘the victory would be remembered and the bodies that was left behind are often forgotten’ don’t know if am saying it right for sure but, something of that nature.

Using the few that have made life much easy for themselves by finding there fortune in crypto isn’t a perfect yardstick to measure on what is obtainable with cryptocurrency. Many investors have failed as well, especially those who took altcoin investments but, very few persons come out to be vocal about it.

Cryptocurrency remains a high risk investment especially for those who are just coming into the space. You can barely speculate on its market movement and that makes your efforts on trying to get it right a high stake probability and that’s not a very good thing. Still, your welcomed yo take your chances. Don’t let your chances be ruined by fear of failure, take it and see how it goes.
898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Calm the pressure on: September 17, 2023, 07:33:19 PM
It's not always too late to invest in bitcoins, if you have ever miss any Bitcoin bull run or you have heard about the bitcoins bull run and you are excited to take actions, my simple advice is, calm the pressure. This advice is driven from the view point of the economy struggles of many, avoid over thinking , work hard to earn money and diversify your investment. Most persons in the crypto space are dying in the inside because they do not have money to invest due to their present circumstance. If you do not have money to invest now, please ease the pressure, you may have more than enough to invest in the future. Calm the pressure my dear friends, don't borrow money, I repeat, don't borrow money to invest on Cryptocurrency, because it is a volatile asset. Life is about risk which you have heard  countless times but it will be unwise to take loan to buy bitcoins.
It’s a very hard thing your asking for those that have been able to identify the potentials in bitcoin and the time they just might be letting slide should they not invest at the time.
Yeah, it’s very much early with bitcoin still, we’ve got barely 3 halvings since and we have many more halvings much more than we already have to come.

If the idea at the moment is that, halvings brings about bullrun and that means, price appreciation of pumps, given that we’ve attained just 3 halvings thus far and may more to come,
Wouldn’t the natural idea from history be that, we are going to have more price appreciation in fourth coming years and halvings?

This makes not investing now a hard to imagine reason and understanding the potential that exists within the space a hard to ignore choice.
899  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Knowledge to help you argue with bitcoin critics on: September 16, 2023, 11:20:37 PM
Possibly those and even more but,
Why do I need to argue? Do I really need that? To make everyone believe my words to be true and perhaps go by what I say… naahhh, I’m not sure I need that. I don’t find myself being obligated by anything to try and convince someone other than, the person having to realize just how helpful it would be for them to take to a side that has got bitcoin in it. If the investor’s prospect doesn’t agree, then it’s okay for them to go with whatever gives them peace.

The only time I feel i might have a course to argue is in the event of me having to put out a proposal and have needs to defend it against them critics. Other than that, am just okay buying and hodling while making my achievements silently. I’ll prefer that to having to argue with anyone who just feel they are at the top of knowledge.

How would one do so efficiently? I am very interested.
Such a stylish way to create a thread with no content at all and have forum users keep it busy for you. Great are your ideas friend. I would have liked a little more direction other than a thread subject and just a line on interest and efficiency!

Still, AI trading is something I’m not very much interested in. I mean, having something without some real emotions or works outside a program to control how my money works without me watching the charts isn’t something am cool with.

It gives me the chills of copy trading which I’ve never been a fan off. I get it I would be doing my analysis on this one and set my orders, TP and SL but, I’m more comfortable handling my trades when I choose to. If I don’t have that time to stay in the market or observe my trade at a distance, I stay off the market.
