882  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: For sports bettors, are you attracted with bet builder feature? on: November 15, 2023, 03:15:14 PM
It is as simple as the higher the accumulation the higher the money that you can make but the lower the chances of winning the accumulated bet. I have always prefer to go for just single game instead. Although if the lower the money you will use for it, you can try it out yourself and have the experience yourself.
How do you factor I risk to reward ratio with single bet option? What has been your win rate? Do you consider it profitable on the long run? I do believe that gambling requires strategy thats why I use the bet builder and focus in winning one bet in at least ten bets and this covers all the losses and still keep me in good profits.

There are other factors I do consider too which I might not be able to detailed here. So far, it has been working for me and that's the most important thing.
883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: J.P. Morgan Thinks the Big Crypto Rally Is Overdone on: November 15, 2023, 01:47:02 PM
After a small correction which was seen by everyone who knows how Bitcoin works, the analyst at the top company like J.P. Morgan thinks the Crypto Rally, especially Bitcoin is done.
How can they be so bad at their profession? I don't have a finance degree and I was able to call the $26k to $40k to $30k like two months before it all happened.

What do you all think about this?
What I see is a deliberate attempt to spread fud with the aim of discouraging more buys so price can give them a discounted entry. I know JB Morgan have interest in Bitcoin even though they have not had the boldness to come out openly. The rally they referred to actually caught a lot of them unawares and also show them that Bitcoin is not to be written off as most of the big cooperations are making people think.

They will continue to be wrong as far as Bitcoin is concerned and soon they will realise that "if you can't beat them, join them"
884  Economy / Speculation / Re: September didn't follow its bear cycle on: November 15, 2023, 12:46:43 PM
I understand that the current bullish momentum is all related to Blackrock. Which means, bearish pressure is yet to take effect.
I was thinking in this direction but there is no substantive evidence to support the claim. When the erroneous tweet by Cointelegraph came out, market responded vigorously leading to a gain of over $5k with few hours before the news was debunked and clarifications made that saw price drop abruptly. This is much of the effect I know the ETF news had on the Bitcoin market. After few days the market rallied and even exceeded the price the ETF news took it to. So I will not assume the news of the ETF is entirely responsible for the gains recorded in Bitcoin price recently... there should be other factors which are yet to be clear.

Remember, there is always a big dip near halving so we still have to go through one bad period minimum.
There may be exception this year unless perhaps, the ETF applications get rejected which will send a shock to the market. However, should the ETF get approval by January 2024, we might not see any serious dip prior to the halving. Nevertheless, it is always safer to keep an open mind and watch the market do what it pleases even as we prepare for whatever be the outcome.

885  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: November 15, 2023, 11:03:57 AM
So here we are today presented with the theme of the thread which I was holding out
for, a perfect "buy the dip" time. The market is $35500 down from ~$37200. This is
what I have been waiting for.

And if it dips further I'll buy again at a further discount. Some people will say there isnt
a whole pile of difference between the two in $1000 but if accumulation is the goal and DCA
practiced all the little savings add up to something worthwhile.
$1.7k drop in price is not what I consider a major dip for a volatile asset like Bitcoin, however, any price below the ATH is still a good entry point for me. The problem with buying the dip is that at the point we are now, it is not clear if price will drop further or continue to uptrend that it has been on for weeks now. For those who buy the dip and hope to profit on the short term, they might enter and price drop further thereby putting them in a situation of anxiety and worry.

To be clear, even though I don't consider this recent drop as the dip, I still consider the price a good entry point because, to me, buying anywhere below the ATH is still perfect entry for me. I think my view also agree with the caption of the thread because every point at this moment is a dip, hence we can buy as much as we can at this moment.

I actually have been using the DCA method for some months now and so far, it has been a wonderful journey with my portfolio in net profit because majority of my holdings were bought below $30k.
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If Satoshi were here, what question would you ask about the future of Bitcoin on: November 15, 2023, 10:12:11 AM
Recent developments have brought some form of uncertainties regarding the future of Bitcoin. Consequently,
several posts have been raised to that effect yet they are left with no clear answers. If we were to go back to the roots, Satoshi himself would have been in the position to answer some of the key questions such as:

1. The fate of Bitcoin as regards to high fees when the block reward gets to zero

2. If He envisaged things like Ordinals being launched on the Bitcoin Network.

3. If he actually projected mainstream adoption of Bitcoin in term of the features of Bitcoin such as speed, security, accessibility as cost effectiveness, base on present realities.

There should be others so I feel we can make this a discussion while I expect answers from those who have.
887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High fees are not bitcoin's destinty on: November 15, 2023, 09:40:50 AM
Well, for one, we're far from bitcoin having block rewards that are near zero. So saying that bitcoin having high fees is already meeting its destiny is at the very least a misrepresentation of what's happening.

We aren't that far from really low rewards, like 0.4 BTC per block. Will the price be 8 times higher by that time? It's easy to say "yes" if you extrapolate the past performance, but extrapolating the past performance is wrong, there is no asset in this world that grows at the same rate forever. Sooner or later Bitcoin's growth will slow down and will stop compensating for the halvenings. So the effect of lower block reward on mining will happen in our lifetime. The reward will be zero in 2140 but it will become very low way before that.
Are you then confirming that the fate of Bitcoin is high fees? My answer is yes, not immediately but it will eventually get their. Mining is a business and all businesses thrive on profits. When block reward hits zero, miners must find a way to remain in profits as without them there will be chaos.

I don't know if this was set out ab initio by Satoshi himself, and if that be the case, it makes the whole thing complex. How do we push for mainstream adoption of Bitcoin when the fees sending a Bitcoin transaction is triple that of conventional payment system? How do one opt for Bitcoin transaction when it takes days to settle payments if the high fees are not paid?

There are many things that are not so clear about the future of Bitcoin
888  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Belarus U21 - Russia U21 on: November 15, 2023, 09:22:47 AM
Does anyone know where I can find this match: https://www.flashscore.com/match/AkfAz6As/#/match-summary

I am looking to bet $170,000 on over 3 goals @ 2.05 odds.

So far the only site I found that has this match is 1xbet but I don't trust that they will let me withdraw when I win. Looking for a reliable site that will accept this big bet. I will also place over 2.5 goals if over 3 is not available.

The event is available in several betting sites such as Sportybet, MegaPari and others. MegaPari accept crypto deposit and withdrawal.

However, the odd for the two platforms I check is about 1.64 which is far less than what flashscore is giving. Maybe the odd is reducing upon the perception that the game will play. I will check to see if to join you and play the game too.
889  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: An official update on the deadline for the naira note palava on: November 15, 2023, 07:08:43 AM
This na the main reason wey even the dollar and so many other fiat currency dey lose value too and na also why the technologist behind Bitcoin creation make Bitcoin get a limitated supply of 21 million so that no matter what the currency go get value overtime as people start demanding or please correct if am wrong @open for corrections still learning.
I don't think this one is the reason the Naira is strengthening against the dollar. The Naira gain is as a result of massive influx of dollar into the market as a result of CBN directives to clear foreign-direct contracts that were long overdue. These contracts involved big fish like Tony Elumelu, Dangote and others and resulted in poor flow of dollars. Since they were mandated to pay back their dollar, there was sharp increase in supply of dollar hence Naira had to strengthen... simple demand and supply theory.

But I come see this official release say the new administration don EXTEND THE DEADLINE TILL FURTHER NOTICE so i say make I drop the matter here and many people fit go online see their selves and as we do am make we try relate on our experiences and impact wey this naira swap cause for our great country NIGERIA

Image source :: twitter app X
news online
This is rhe right thing to do and not to stop old notes when the new notes are not available, exactly what Buhari did and scattered the country.  I remembered that President Jonathan redesigned the Naira note several times yet we never noticed because he never stopped the use of the old notes but only directed banks to retrieve and stop issuing them as well.

I'm happy this new administration is not adding to our suffering with their policies like the last administration. Even though we are yet to see much improvements in the key indices of development, the suffering should not be worse than they met it else people will go into depression.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin an option for low- and middle-income countries [Fees & Costs] on: November 15, 2023, 04:28:33 AM
Bitcoin is indeed suitable for cross-border payment designs. Apart from low transaction fees, Bitcoin is also fast in just minutes.

I've been using Bitcoin since 2013 to send money across countries, and I get paid in Bitcoin too because the company I work for is in Brazil while I'm in Indonesia. If you use some kind of wire/western union, bank, PayPal, it will cost a lot of transaction fees and can take days, of course this is not effective. Since there is Bitcoin or crypto, things like cross-border payments are very helpful, Bitcoin/crypto is the solution.
I'm really happy to know that a cooperate organisation will accept to pay workers in Bitcoin even though it is a remote job. This is in-line with the reason for the creation of Bitcoin itself. For a country like mine where there is no tax on Bitcoin, it will be a major deal for you because you will be taking your complete money home without paying tax, I know it might not sound nice to some patriots, but then, anything that can add more money to our pocket is a plus to us provided it does not contravene the law.

Bitcoin has actually made life easy by offering a whole new dimension to cross borders payment
891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make bitcoin "untouchable" for a while on: November 15, 2023, 04:17:55 AM
Bitcoin was created to give you total control so I don't understand why you'll want to give up that privilege through staking as I understand staking makes it impossible for you to have access to your coins during a particular period of time. Bitcoin doesn't have staking ability (and it doesn't need one) but the answer I can give to you for your problem is to download a wallet (possible electrum) store all your sensible information securely offline, get your wallet address and delete the wallet then just be stacking your Bitcoin in the wallet through the address untill when you need it before you can bring the wallet back online and gain access to your coins. You have to be disciplined not to get tempted to make the wallet active until you have reached your scheduled (untouchable) duration.

Well, I have my reasons.
Sometimes I tend to "panic sell" some when I see the market is going down. Or I am bored, deposit some at Poker or some sports bet site where there is a possibility to lose.
I basically want to lock it away for a certain period of time (not long, but continue locking it after the lock expired) since I don't need it at the moment and I don't want to have the "temptation" of using it for whatever.

I know how to store my bitcoin, I am not looking for that.

When I saw the post I thought your aim was to find a way of earning more Bitcoin just like people earn when they stake their tokens. This response narrowed your post down to psychological challenge. Well, I will suggest you go back to why you even started your Bitcoin journey.

If you still panic when price of Bitcoin is dropping,  most likely you are overinvested in Bitcoin and that is an error. You are expected to only invest amount you are not in urgent need of, amount you can leave for years and still live your life normally. Make the necessary adjustments and have peace of mind. You can adopt the DCA method that takes care of this emotional burden.

Every true Bitcoiner must give Bitcoin a chance to grow by developing a long term perspective that should withstand the periods of consolidation and corrections.
892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not get scammed by this, specially newcomers. on: November 15, 2023, 03:52:45 AM
I saw something on Quora that worried me. Someone said that he lost 1200 BTC to scammers. Then, I saw some people sharing/claiming to be experts in recovering lost bitcoin. They shared their contact details like Telegram IDs and WhatsApp numbers.

I have a suspicion that the person who lost the BTC might be the same one giving out those contact details or advices. They could be trying to trick others in the future who search for help online. Google might suggest similar questions on Quora, and people could end up sharing their private keys with scammers.

So, if you are new to all this, be careful. Don't trust random people claiming to be experts on Quora or anywhere else. They might just be trying to get your private information.

This question: https://www.quora.com/I-just-lost-1200-BTC-to-scammers-now-How-can-I-recover-my-BTC-back
scroll to see more answers like these.
This is an old format that scammers use with the intention of gaining the trust of their victim before scamning them. I usually see it in Facebook and how this work is that they will hack several Facebook accounts, then use one account to make the proposal then several accounts to share testimony of successes... same person or group of persons controlling all the hacked accounts. If you are not smart, they might convinced you into thinking that it was a genuine offer only to find out when they are done with you.

Their targets is usually to steal your money or sensitive information and where that did no lt work, they will attempt to hack your account.  Like you said, trusting random people offering help in the internet is dangerous.
893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I go with Bitcoin or Altcoins for the upcoming bull run cycle? on: November 14, 2023, 10:19:15 PM
BTC Only don’t touch alts
why you advice to not touch alts? Are you too scared to invest in crypto?  Aren't You Aware of Altcoin Profits?  Yes investing in bitcoin is safer than altcoins but on the other hand altcoins are more profitable than bitcoins
Let's be specific, which of the altcoins yield more profit than Bitcoin? If I remember correctly, the profits of altcoins are more when you buy at the early stages not when the market is already saturated, so are you suggesting we invest in ICO? If yes, do you realise that more than 98% of token fail? Is that a risk worst taking?

so if you want to get more profit you have to take more risk.
What's the difference between this suggestion and gambling? I don't think it is wise to gamble with money this way when you can simply accumulate Bitcoin and wait for halving that is happening next year.
894  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance Client Executives Kidnapped, Forced to Empty Crypto Wallets on: November 14, 2023, 10:09:00 PM
Also, technically anyone who uses the Binance exchange is a client, so I imagine a lot of people who happen to use Binance had been extorted & robbed over the platform's lifetime too.

But kidnappings? That only happens quite rarely.
It is becoming common because people are not leaving a private life. I mean a privacy life for their crypto holdings.
Actually, a lot of Bitcoiner with fat portfolios are noisy especially on social media and that is not safe. However, I'm wondering how someone as big as Client Executive of Binance can be private without being known. I serious doubt the possibility.

We really need cyber security and privacy board.
This is a very important suggestion that will take much of the burden in the Beginners & Help Board since security issues usually take bulk of the discussion. Perhaps you can create a topic about this in Meta so it gain more attention. The ropsed cyber security and privacy board can come as a sub board under Beginners & Help.
895  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler's family action. on: November 14, 2023, 09:44:49 PM
There's nothing wrong with gambling, but we have to be able to take care of ourselves or be responsible gamblers so that later, we won't cause trouble to our family, especially if we become addicted to gambling. If we are addicted to gambling, we will get into serious problems, which may take a long time to cure our gambling addiction. Family may not be perfect, but they are the ones who will probably help us first when we are experiencing problems, so we should not waste them, especially if we have a family who cares about us. Maybe the decision making made by the family may not be appropriate because of the limited information they have. At least they will definitely try to help us and will look for other information that we need so that we can undergo treatment for gambling addiction.
In the case of the topic of discussion, I'm of the opinion that
Went too far in their bid to helping their brother. You can't help someone by destroying his name and reputation.  You don't cure an addiction by making it public, that's a wrong approach.

Do you know that even if such person manages to overcome his addiction after the family exposed his problem to the public without his consent, he will easily be reminded of his past by people at any little argument. This will immediately make him depressed and remorseful.

While family help is important, the approach must be carefully chosen to avoid creating a bigger problem while solving a problem.
896  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The fall of shitcoin/altcoin, the rise of bitcoin on: November 14, 2023, 09:31:13 PM

897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is King on: November 14, 2023, 05:44:59 PM
Bitcoin is king because :

1) It was the first crypto coin. People associate crypto with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin was not the first crypto coin to appear, but Bitcoin was the first crypto coin that succeeded in capturing a lot of public attention so many people thought Bitcoin was the first. The first cryptocoin was eCash which was developed by the DigiCash company in 1990
https://www.investopedia.com/tech/were-there-cryptocurrencies-bitcoin/
Thanks for sharing this information. Before now, I never knew that there were cryptocurrency before the creation of Bitcoin. Now I know better and one thing that stood out is that fact that Bitcoin is the oldest surviving cryptocurrency as the others died according to the source you gage.
Quote
While not the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is the oldest surviving one as it was released via a whitepaper in 2008.

Base on the above, the caption is not out of place, Bitcoin still remain the king. It drives the entire market and also have wider acceptance which is still increasing everyday as seen from the Bitcoin dominance that is above 50% as of today.

898  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy every dip! on: November 14, 2023, 05:22:59 PM
Sometimes our approach towards investments could be our greatest fall because when you have a predetermined negative mindset about a certain investment, you definitely will approach it wrongly and may possibly make mistakes you may have to learn from the hard way.
Talking about approach I believe the phrase "HODL WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE" should be a guide when investing in Bitcoin. As it would go a long way in preventing trauma which may be caused by possible fatal losses especially when investing in shit coins. Bitcoin still remains the OG of the crypto space so it's never a bad option to invest in it.
Someone suggested that, when it comes to investment in Bitcoin, using the word "invest what you can afford to lose" is  not too suitable and makes it look like Bitcoin is gambling or some sort of unserious business. According to him, the phrase should be "invest such amount you can hold for long, at least five to ten years". I tend to agree with him because if we maintain the phrase of what people can afford to lose,  it means low income earners are not supposed to invest in Bitcoin because I doubt that they have some money they can through away even though they can afford to keep small fraction of their money in Bitcoin while expecting it will become something worthwhile in the future... this can be some sort of motivation. The various methods of Bitcoin accumulation being discussed so far are all aimed at encouraging people to invest some fraction of their money to save for the future (HODL).

899  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit gambling and Invest in gambling. on: November 14, 2023, 03:40:18 PM
How do I take advantages over the gambles while I am not gambling anymore?
I tend to invest in the gambling. How?
At my visits in the gambling grounds, I will be lending my funds to the losers who has run out of  funds and willing to bet more if they have more money.
I tends to make this a deal with interest charges with concrete agreement to be secured and I will be opened to also accepting collaterals.

I verily know that I will succeed more of the inexperienced and those gamblers who doesn't have gambling budgets including those who can't take control over their gambling emotions
I have a colleague that ran this type of business in the hostels during his university days. He was not involved in the gambling but only lend money to the gamblers at exorbitant interest rate. By the time the gambling was over everyday, he was usually the richest among all the participants. As a matter of fact, 70% of the total funds usually ended up with him.

I don't know if it is the same model the big casinos use but I see a lot of similarities
900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not all educated are educated. on: November 14, 2023, 03:31:48 PM
Especially, I do not expect people can be complaining about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general that they are causing global warming.
This is one of the funniest thing I have ever read. I don't know if the more educated these scientist get, the more stupid they become.  The heavy industries in China, the open gas flaring in Nigeria and the various coal and nuclear powered turbines do not cause global warming bit Bitcoin mining farm? These guys are really making mockery of science just the way they did during covid19.

Mixers are seen to be used for illegal activities but the money in banks are not seeing to be used for money laundering and terrorism financing. Among the most fiats used for illegal activities, only little do the government and regulators know about. If there is no bitcoin or other coins and tokens, there will be illegal activities both online and offline and their scam fiat will be used for it.
I have always known it will come the point where governments will conjure all manner of theories and hypothesis to be fully in charge of Bitcoin and all that has to do with it. Mixers actually make this impossible, hence their outburst against mixers.
Before the advent of Bitcoin and tumblers, terrorism have always been financed through the conventional payment systems, NGOs, charity and religious organisations and others. Linking Bitcoin to terror financing is just a case of "giving a dog a bad name in other to kill it"
