881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the mining of Ethereum profitable? on: January 06, 2018, 09:01:35 PM
ETH has been profitable to mine for years - IF your power cost was low enough.

The past 9 months or so the profitabilty has been so much higher that power cost is almost not a factor.

882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What GPUs did you use in your most recent mining rig build? January 2018 on: January 06, 2018, 08:59:57 PM
I am pretty sure the only machines I have that do NOT mix GPU are my single-card machines.

Mix and match AMD vs Nvidia in the same machine hurts stability, mix and match varied manufactures from the same family generally does not.

I was wondering when Inno would come out with another "dual tube" miner.

They need to start setting up some distributors though, then they don't have to deal with us "small fry".

884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 06, 2018, 08:48:31 PM

I have 7 of these 12/13 GPU rigs in the farm and .... yes it is fun building these rigs but you need plenty of power for them and well ventilated. All of them are with the Deltas 2400w and housed in the center of the farm so that I can use the air extractor on them during the hot days. These rigs are the hottest in terms of temps and hash power. Ironically these rigs are the only ones that are hanging like bats and since they are stable, they will likely remain with risers. Multiple 8 x GPU riserless rigs are ideal for density and can fully populate open cage metal racks and make use the of floor fans effectively. I dont forsee doing anymore AMD rigs (exception of the Vega rigs) because the NVIDIAs are a blessing - always works, easy to control voltage and very stable in most cases.

So lessons learnt - the bigger the rigs, the bigger the issues in PSU requirements, cooling strategy, cabling, stabilizing them.... a golden rule : stability, cool temps and consistent submission of shares to the pool's stratum server are more important than achieving the meanest powerful, fastest rigs that requires constant babysitting. If you have a large farm -- undervolting is very very key - forget the world GPU speed record.

That's one of the reasons I'm sticking with my 5-card rigs - relative ease of assembly/management/troubleshooting.

The primary reason of course is "I already HAVE a bunch of MB/CPU/RAM/HD" so the cost is already sunk on the infrastructure, and it's going to be a WHILE before I have to worry about buying more infrastructure stuff.

885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 06, 2018, 08:44:33 PM

Does it NEED those P106's though? Can it run 16 cards (8 nvidia and 8 AMD)?

If I remember correctly BBT started with p106's and started adding normal GPU's to max it out instead of the other way around.  I would check the latest BIOS/chipset drivers for updates on compatibilty, but 8 normal Nvidia and 8 amd should work fine, or start with 13 AMD and add Nvidia one at a time.  The worst part of that board is the crazy loading times and then trying to load OC values after that.  Seems more feasible to stick with 8-13 GPU motherboards.

Manual specifies 13 "normal" cards max.

I'm still trying to figure out WHY that limitation exists, there is no LOGICAL reason for it.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 06, 2018, 08:43:29 PM

btw, this Intel chip flaw thing.... now that changes everything .... will mining rigs be impacted?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2018-01-05/apple-says-chip-flaw-hits-all-macs-iphones-ipads-video

Not to any real degree IF at all - it's an issue about "protecting code / data from other code running on the same machine in a different userspace.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: January 06, 2018, 08:41:14 PM
been using this miner since its release no issues so far and it has improved drastically with the updates thanks dev Smiley

Which update?
last update was December 07, 2016

Seems like dev has abandoned this awesome miner.

The ORIGINAL RELEASE was December 7, 2016.

Updates happened for some months after that, well into the summer or early fall - but the dev does seem to have disappeared at some point this fall.

888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: January 06, 2018, 08:32:32 PM
hello everyone,

in the boincstats.com  user status> the total credit number equal to gridcoin or how it calculate ? if so how do i claim it

were there anyone able to transfer from credit to gridcoin, if so how many credit for 1 gridcoin.

i saw in boincstas.com some was got 500 credit and some got 2500 credit per week.

boincstats has NOTHING to do with Gridcoin.

https://www.gridcoinstats.eu/index.php can give you an estimate of how much Gridcoin you are earning a day, they have an "enter your ID" search function that can take you to a page showing this estimate.

There is a Gridcoin "pool" - grcpool.com to get access to them.
I make enough that there's no point in my going through the pool, but folks with smaller BOINC efforts would probably find that pool to be a Good Thing.
Don't ask me anything about HOW it works, as I've never used it and am only aware that it exists.
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many riser can you add per VGA port? on: January 06, 2018, 08:27:08 PM
The riser can eat more than 75 watts PER RISER - PCI-E bus spec allows 75 watt draw AND the riser chews through a little additional power in it's voltage conversion circuitry.

VGA connection at the power supply VARIES - do NOT assume 150 watts, some only put a single 6-pin connector on a PS port and likely are only RATED 75-100 watts ballpark for the PORT.

890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Current best powered risers available? on: January 06, 2018, 08:24:55 PM
If I could find a GOOD MOLEX riser, I'd go with it - but so far no luck.
The all-in-one risers I've gotten from COBOC via Newegg have been hassle-free.
The Mintcell all-in-one risers worked, but the USB cable was iffy and had to be replaced to work well on one.

891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Current best powered risers available? on: January 06, 2018, 04:25:19 AM
make sure the risers are isolated from the case.

Every riser I've seen to date comes with a fairly thick "rubbery pad" on the bottom that works as an insulator, and isolated screwholes for mounting.

892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12x 1080 ti mining rig. How to manage the PSUs??? on: January 06, 2018, 04:20:45 AM
3 1080 ti running at 200 watts or less will run COMFORTABLY on a EVGA G2 850 or Seasonic X-850 (yes, that IS experience, out of my B250 Mining Expert rig).
You could probably push them to 220-230 watts or so without issue.

3 x 850 and a single 1000 (use the bigger supply to run 3 cards and the MB/RAM/etc) should be plenty.

4 cards even at 250 watts TDP (which is a waste, 1080 ti hashrate at 250 isn't enough higher than at 225 to justify it even on GOOD cards like the AORUS) will run comfortably on a 1200-1300 watt supply.
3xEVGA G2 1300 (or 3 x Seasonic X-1250 IF you could find them any more) would be viable for a 4-card per PS setup - and if you use the B250 Mining Expert motherboard, you don't need Add2PSU for that configuration (but that MB HAS been hard to find for a little while).

893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best electricity plan for mining on: January 06, 2018, 04:13:34 AM
I moved out of Iowa because I thought 9 months a year averaging about 7.6 cents/KWH and 3 months a year averaging 14/something was bad - especially since the high rates were in the HOT part of the year.

894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 06, 2018, 04:09:25 AM
ASUS manual says not more than 13 "non-mining" cards, up to 8 each Nvidia or AMD - but that might have been because they RECOMMEND Windows as an OS and the drivers at the time didn't support more than 8 cards of one brand at a time (I'm not sure how the P106 mining cards get around that limit though).

Oddly enough, their CURRENT online manual seems to indicate that up to 11 AMD cards would work - but it only gives 3 "recommended" configurations and is VERY unclear about actual limits or if recent new BIOS versions have changed anything.

895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many riser can you add per VGA port? on: January 05, 2018, 09:21:33 PM
It depends on the power supply.

Most can handle 2 no issue, many can handle 3 - any power supply that comes with "8-pin + 6-pin" VGA power cables are fine to run 3 risers on one port.

4 - there are a FEW that can handle 4 risers from one "VGA" port, but I don't recommend trying it unless the PS in question comes with at least one "8-pin + 8-pin" cable for VGA power.
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: This GPU worth or not? on: January 05, 2018, 09:19:21 PM
$350 for a 1060 3GB model is a ripoff - LOTS of them available on Newegg for more like $220-$250 ballpark last time I looked.

897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 650W Enough for 2x 1080 Ti ?? on: January 05, 2018, 09:18:05 PM
Running the cards at 185, it should have enough capacity.

I'd be more worried about the junk "fancy name sleeve bearing" fan the Prime line uses.

898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU not detected by any miner! on: January 05, 2018, 09:17:07 PM
Motherboard shouldn't matter - I have run Polaris GPUs on even OLDER boards in the past.

Does GPU-Z detect that GPU? It isn't unlikely at all that you have a BAD RISER, not an issue with the MB.
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12x 1080 ti mining rig. How to manage the PSUs??? on: January 05, 2018, 09:15:11 PM
I don't spread FUD.

I DO point out that the SATA connector ITSELF is only rated at 54 watts when the PCI-E bus is rated to draw up to 75 watts, and THEREFORE there is a significant risk in powering risers from SATA connectors.

There are also a LOT of folks that have reported melted, burnt, etc SATA connectors that were powering risers - it might work for YOU, but that does not change the risk factor.

The issue is real enough that I refuse to GET any "real world experience" with this POTENTIAL OVERLOAD ISSUE.

900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 05, 2018, 09:08:11 PM
I'm got one of the Onda 6 gpu boards with integrated CPU on the way, and need to get a power supply for it to power 6x 1060 3gbs.

I was thinking about using one of these EVGA 750w GQs https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=210-GQ-0750-V1

Its got the 3x molex I need for the board, plenty of sata and 6x 6+2 pin connectors for the GPUs. Also 750w should be fine right? My other 1060s are pulling around 80-90w so seems like I'll sit around 80% utilisation.

My other thought is the one molex branch with 3x connections going to handle powering 3 slots? And should I run all 3 sata off one branch?

rule of thumb is no more than 2 sata used per string or 2 molex used per string.

Depends on the wiring too - sometimes ONE per string is pushing limits for the wiring.

3 per string = pretty much GUARENTEED melting wires.
