8821  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Liberty Reserve got a new homepage ... on: May 29, 2013, 02:11:17 AM
$6 Billion! That's a big number. I wonder how much of that is actually detective work and how much is just fabricated crap?

The U.S. really hates anonymous money. They really don't want any of their..er..your money getting out of their sight. So I guess they have 200,000 criminals in the U.S. to round up now. The jails aren't big enough.  Maybe they can ship them all to Australia like the British did. lol
8822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Liberty Reserve is now dead (Good News For Bitcoin ?) on: May 29, 2013, 02:03:15 AM
The gov't trying to shut down the bitcoin exchanges could turn out to be a game of whack-a-mole. They shut down MtGox, BTC-E becomes the new "80%" exchange, and so on. Plus BTC-E is located in Russia, a non-NATO member.
I'm not sure Bitcoin could survive this for two reasons. First, it would force people to leave fiat in an exchange for as little time as possible. This would mean people forced to exchange quickly rather than when it makes the most sense. This will force people to take currency exchange costs they could otherwise avoid by timing. Second, it would increase the incentives for legitimate businesses to distance themselves from Bitcoin. If nothing else, they'd have a hard time figuring out where to exchange them this month.

But I don't think that's going to happen. I think exchanges will comply with the regulations. I doubt LR or BTC-E have any particular interest in financing terrorism or helping to launder drug money. (Or, if they do, they can be replaced by similar businesses that don't.) They just need to figure out reasonable ways to comply.

I agree that a LR-type attack on a big bitcoin exchange is unlikely to happen any time soon, because it would be perceived by many as a quasi-recognition of BTC as a real currency and possibly lead to more people taking it seriously. It seems like for now they're just ignoring bitcoin (publicly) and hoping it fades away on its own....

....while slowly attacking every means of converting it to fiat.

God could force all of us to be perfect.  To be His "mindless" robots and all of us would then do exactly what He wanted, but then how would God know if we really loved him or not?  If you are in love with someone, wouldn't you at some point want to know if the
y truly loved you back or were just in the relationship because they had to be?  That is the way it is with us.

Woah woah woah! Are you saying we can hide our thoughts and intentions from god? Awesome!

Morality: Using empathy as a guide for human interaction. AKA, "treat others the way you want to be treated" and "put yourself in my shoes". It has nothing inherently to do with the bible.
Only empathy will lead to utilitarianism. If Hitler thought what he was doing to the Jews would improve the life of everyone on the earth, and save them from the evil destructive Jews, on what basis do you criticize him?

Doesn't "everyone" include Jews? I would criticize him on assuming that Jews aren't included in the "everyone" group, and that he doesn't think they want their lives improved just like everyone else.

I thought Jews didn't care about creature comforts and thought they were "goyishe." Jews just want all the money. Not that they spend it on anything but they just want it. Or am I mixing up my stereotypes?

I am a Christian, believe in the Bible and own bitcoins. And as for all the mocking of things I hold dear, I am not going to respond.

Good for you! The one iron clad way to win every debate is to not debate.
8825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The three main concerns I have about bitcoin on: May 29, 2013, 01:28:57 AM
1) Think about the currency you use at the store everyday. Your government can always print more and always have more than you and they own more than 5% of its value.

2) Scarcity creates value

3) It will serve the people that use it for its intended purpose quite well and is already faster than many alternatives such as bank wire.
8826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Zuckerberg and Bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 11:25:10 PM
In other news.

Mark Zuckerburg dumps $1 billion into LiteCoin.

LOL
8827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Zuckerberg and Bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 07:51:07 PM
Just imagine if Zuckerberg would be BTC with 1 billion $.

Calm down, you're gonna get that sticky stuff all over your shoes. Chances are he's only interested at all because he wants to crap on the Winklevoss twins somehow. I'm sure he understands if he did invest he would make his arch rivals even richer by increasing the value of their holdings. I'm pretty sure that's not in his long term plan. He's already worth billions.
8828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Zuckerberg and Bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 04:55:56 PM
Zuckerburg is a idea thief and a technology pirate so he should fit right in here.

Yellow Cab Cooperative is going to play Bitcoin videos! That's amazing! I exclusively use Yellow to get around. I'll look out for it.
8830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Bitcoin form a freedom fighters army? on: May 28, 2013, 06:42:44 AM
OP I'd like to help you with this whole army thing but I'm in training to be a libertarian. The first part of my training requires that I be a complete gutless pussy that peacefully protests until I get dragged off by the police. The second phase of my training begins when I graduate from college and find out I can make a shit ton of money then sell-out and join the republican party. So I wouldn't be much help really. Sorry!

I do remember reading somewhere that the US Govt had a problem with aliens and their strange new technology.

8833  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 05:45:10 AM
I just wanted to point something out, as a former bible scholar... you're quoting mistranslations and making judgements on the translated word.

Specifically leviticus 20:13. a more accurate translation is:

If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their blood guilt is upon them.

This isn't a command for people to kill them. This is description of the result of their actions. Death, in the eternal sense... eradication of the soul. With the reasoning included. They've sinned against their bloodline by not producing children abd thus their legacy doesn't exist.

You can interpret and attempt to soften that collection of crap anyway you like but I still won't believe it. I can't rationally believe in ancient Christian mythology like the God of Abraham or the God of King James any more than I can believe in ancient Norse mythology like Thor or Greek mythology like Apollo.
8834  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 05:15:44 AM
O_O

I don't even know where to begin. I suppose I could go through the entire list, and show you where you're misquoting, but I'm pretty lazy, so I'll just do a few.

Quote
If two men have sexual relations, both must be put to death (Leviticus 20:13).
If a mother and son have sexual relations, both must be put to death (Leviticus 20:11).
If a man and daughter-in-law have sex, both must be put to death (Leviticus 20:12).
If a man has sex with an animal, both must be put to death (Leviticus 20:15).

I suppose you're supporting bestiality, incest and homosexuality then?

Most of these are actually curses, not something God is going to do to everyone ...

Quote
God will kill inhabitants of entire cities if they have a corrupt government (Micah 3:9-12).
Aren't you supposed to be libertarian?

Quote
If an ox gores someone, the ox and its owner must be stoned to death (Exodus 21:29).
I believe we have this in US law too, imagine if through some mechanical malfunction your machinery kills someone, you are liable for their life, and under a just law system such a person should be put to death. A pretty good reason to make sure your machinery doesn't kill someone, huh?

Anyway, that's a few at least.

Yes, I think murder is a fitting punishment for homosexuality.   Undecided

No, I'm not a libertarian.

No, I don't believe in an eye for an eye in any situation. Two wrongs never make a right.

If God is perfect then why did she create such imperfect beings that she has to threaten death constantly to get them to do what she wants? Was God bored and needed something to play with? God would know ahead of time how you would react to any situation. There is no choice or free will when you know everything that will happen, and created it to happen that way. So effectively she damned me to hell because she made me imperfect. There is only one way to make any of this make sense. Men fabricated the bible like any other ghastly horror novel and there is no God. Period.
8835  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 28, 2013, 04:33:40 AM

8836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Island/City and More on: May 28, 2013, 03:08:21 AM
ah ok, why not just start a city that uses gold as currency instead of being reliant on both electricity and internet to survive.

Stop being rational. That just pisses off people around here.

people of the forums.. this guy only has 0.7btc to his name and a supposed promise of devcoins next month.

he has 20 different projects that he is trying to suggest, and begs for money from people.

only one month ago he put in the newbie subject that he didnt know what mining was. but now suddenly has expert friends that will make an asic miner for him.

please review his lack of talents wisely and see him for his true light, a conning begger that has no agenda to finalise a project, but the only agenda to grab peoples bitcoin.

i would however give him small donations as he is a comedian with all of his brain fart idea's tempting people to invest. just a shame that he has no plans backing them up for them to even function. (no research beyond 2 hours of google searches to sound less naive)

I just like it that his Mexican mom named him FinShaggy.
8839  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 27, 2013, 06:12:14 PM
Religious arguments are just about pointless.

Most religious beliefs are based on faith. Faith , as in, I believe it because I believe it without any need for proof.

You can't argue this position. You can't really argue any point for any positive outcome without being able to reference logic or rationality.

So yes. Just going to say that of course the 3000 some odd old book written about oral traditions of nomadic sheep herders relating the word of a a supreme disinterested being in the sky about bitcoin, 5000 years laters, certainly does predict in the end of the world via four big dudes riding sky horses that will come down and destroy the world.

Of course. Where are the disbelievers? They are so stupid to not believe in this stuff.

No dude, I already proved Jesus is true in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211865.msg2286538#msg2286538

I'd move to Berlin.
not Berlin, but that other city in Germany.

Frankfurt/rhein main? You know that there's more than just one major city in Deutschland, right?
