I bought a LetraTag yesterday for this very purpose. I guess I'll check on the print every year to see if it's starting to fade and reprint if it is. Better than my handwriting, anyway. I think it greatly depends on what you print on. I dont know why, but when I saw that machine I had these supermarket printers in mind. They print on very thin thermopaper and some even have a warning on the back. The warning reads: no sunlight, no chemicals, no oil, no fats, no pressure, no heat, nothing that contains softeners (so maybe my wraps are a bad idea). You basically cant even touch them. Anyway now that I looked at the machine again I think its printing on thick plastic. Dont some of them even "engrave" the print? That should work for ~10 years

What's the best thing to start as a beginner? I was planning to buy 0.1/2/3 BTC. I'm not mining by the way.
Reading the whitepaper [1] was the best I did in the beginning. Also reading it after 3 and 6 months did help to understand bitcoin better. Don expect to understand it fully while reading first just take in as much as you can. I don't understand what is bitcoin, how can i invest?where can i get bitcoin?I want to understand hope you can help me.
Bitcoin is a forum of currency, but no bank or state is behind it. Investing in bitcoin is as simple as buying bitcoin when the price is low. E.g. today Well yesterday was better, but that easy to say in hindsight. How to buy. Well you could register with one of the exchanges like kraken or bitstamp, transfer money to their bank account and buy bitcoin. Or you could meet with someone in person using local bitcoins. You could also try the currency exchange section here. If you just want to learn how to use it, just buy a little to play around with. Idk like a pizza worth Is a Dymo LetraTag a good idea for printing out private cold storage keys and then sticking them into an envelope? Once the batteries are removed the printer memory is wiped, right? I've asked this question before but no-one answered. Do you think the thermal print will fade within, say 10 years, if enclosed in an envelope and away from heat/light? Dont use thermal print for something that has to last long. I have old (3 years old) receipts that I can no longer read. I kept them in a Leitz folder in saran wrap (*) and they are usualy in the dark. If you worry about the printers cache, AFAIK this is usually only a problem with the big office machines that have actual harddrives in them. Most home use printers have no long term storrage. -snip- Gender is of no relevance to this conversation. Gender and biological sex are two very different things that you are confusing just to let you know...
Trust me, I am not confusing those, I usually do not discuss this in english though. But its just another reason why the question makes no sense. My gender as well as my biological sex (where also more than 2 answers would be possible) say very little about me. It might be relevant -alongside sexual orientation/preference- when dating, but I doubt anyone would go here for a date.

While receiving is independent of the way you store your private keys and sending or broadcasting a signed TX is as well, the signing required to make a valid TX is not. In order to send bitcoin you need to sign a TX with the correct private key. Once the signed TX is on an online machine it makes no difference from hot storrage. It might however take some time to get the unsigned TX to your offline wallet, sign it and get it back. This greatly depends on how you transfer the data.

Its a Virtual Currency in contrast to physical currencies such as fiat, because bitcoin does not exist physically. There are coins yes, but they only keep a private key not the bitcoins. So thr coins are more like a safe. Its a Cryptocurrency because it heavily uses crypto to ensure its usefullness and safety. Its a Digital currency because its data are safed digital and not analog.

I think you should give the whole forum the biggest best hug you've ever given out, i think most people could use it during these stressful times, thanks

This is an open question to anybody who can answer it.
My question is can a government stop a wallet from syncing with the blockchain if they decide to ban the currency completely and not allow anybody to use the wallet?
Depends. If the connection to the internet was shutdown youd have to rely on SMS and radiowaves. Both methods have been tested but not easily accessable AFAIK. If a connection to the internet is still possible you could mask the traffic via tor. Will the wallet still fuction as normal and download the blockchain and will the user be able to send coins from the wallet to any other wallet in the world?
If you can get a connection via tor it would function as usually. SMS/DVBT connections would work differently as you would have one channel to get updates for the blockhain (DVBT) and another to broadcast TX (SMS)

brauchte dringend rat.

Just a note, the menu option is 'Cold Storage' and not offline wallet, just for in case you were looking for 'offline wallet' Yeah sorry wording might be different for different languages. Using the german version.

I have the private key QR code and 15 digit password from the original wallet...but am not sure how to access the BTC with it. According to what I read, as long as you have this and lose your phone you should be alright, so I imagine this would be the same process?
But when I reinstall the wallet, scan this QR code, and enter the password, it tells me my key doesn't match my BTC address (which is a new one bc I reinstalled the APP)
Just ignore the degens. If you have the private key as QR and the password you can do the following: #1 hit menu -> offline wallet #2 select qr-code #3 scan private key. #4 mycelium should detect it as encrypted private key and ask for the password #5 enter password and wait for encryption (takes >1 minute on old phone) #6 transfer funds to another of your addresses you still control. #7 mycelium should warn you that it will not store the private key, so make sure to transfer the whole balance I got that "does not match your key/address" error as well once, but I forgot how. IIRC you just took a wrong turn and "offline wallet" is the option you want even though it sounds wrong.

Its for bitcoin core though. From this [1] part they look legit as they would not exactly have your private keys. Not sure how they would enforce the 20% then, but its a common way to make sure you can trust them with your wallet. Not sure if its possible with multibit, but for such an amount Id contact them. Edit: Since Multibit keeps every private key seperated it is actually very easy to give the service a key that has no funds on it, but still requires the password. the point is why i don't get a "wrong password" instead of that error, i am quite sure about the password, just doesent work
Just tried it to be sure, when I enter a wrong password it says exactly "Could not decrypt bytes".

The thing with bitcoin is: there is noone but you to take care of your wallet. If you forgot your password there is no "forgot my password" button. The only thing you can do is try different combinations of what you remember as the password. Usually people remember something about it e.g. it was something like Laura13Prepon555 So youd try different numbers switch letters etc.
