8861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: where are private keys stored? on: June 05, 2020, 04:12:25 PM
But if private keys are not stored on blockchain, how does the block chain know if I entered a wrong or correct password? It must have it somewhere in its memory

Are you confusing by chance Bitcoin's blockchain with a private web service called blockchain.com ?

Blockchain is a database. It doesn't have "its memory".
8862  Economy / Reputation / Re: JollyGood is reporting bounty hunters on: June 05, 2020, 04:10:02 PM
I was just a bounty hunter at that time

Sorry, this is not an excuse. It's like the drug dealer telling "it was only my daily job, in the rest of the time I'm a law abiding citizen".
8863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Patoshi Researcher: 'Satoshi won't use his coins ever’" on: June 05, 2020, 11:40:58 AM
Being the guru that Satoshi is (it's no mean feat for anyone to have come up with the phenomenal crypto — Bitcoin.), the last thing that Satoshi could do would be to destroy the PKey to those wallets.

Why not? Isn't that the best way to make sure you'll remain anonymous?
Do we believe anybody who says he's Satoshi if he cannot sign a message with those keys?
8864  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How about adding 2FA for next wallet update? on: June 05, 2020, 11:16:29 AM
I am talking about google authentication

The number generated by google auth is based on a seed and current time.
If that seed is saved on your computer, in your own wallet, what would be the point of having it? Anybody could look in Bitcoin core source code and find a way to generate your 2FA number after stealing your wallet.
That's why people tell you about 3rd party.
8865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Patoshi Researcher: 'Satoshi won't use his coins ever’" on: June 05, 2020, 11:03:00 AM
there is a third option which is Satoshi has been spending his bitcoins but from outputs (fresh coins mined) that are from later years (like 2010 to 2013) instead of spending outputs that people have been getting overly sensitive about (that is anything mined in 2009). after all it remained easy to mine bitcoin with PC for a very long time even after he disappeared (i believe it was until 2013).

Yep, you're right, I was focused only on the first blocks and I've forgot about that.
8866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 seed words + passphrase on: June 05, 2020, 09:59:07 AM
I have to admit that it came to me a number of times how quite hard it is to be your own bank, especially if you have tens of BTC.

I am on the same page, I don't have a huge problem yet with my private keys, there's no life changing amount to hide  Smiley

I have a little amount myself and created a total of three copies of my seed words and I can only remember the hiding place of a single copy. I cannot remember where I kept the other two, must be somewhere in the pages of one of my books or under files of old papers. If this tiny box I'm living in right now will catch fire while I am away-- God forbid-- I will lose everything of it. And I also don't deem it safe to keep a copy in my wallet.

If my memory serves me right, I think even Andreas Antonopoulos himself ironically mentioned in an interview that he's got a copy of his seed words written on a piece of paper and kept in a bank's storage.

Bank's storage can be a valid place since it may be opened only by you or with your death certificate, afaik.
But back at hiding in plain sight: somebody from the family also needs to know where to look, obviously. Preferably somebody who doesn't know much about computers and bitcoin. (So yes, the suggestion still stands.)

And about catching fire, well.. I see it the same as burglars coming in (so this makes crypto steel useless) : backup at somebody else. And this backup can be made in a way only you can understand it - sealed envelope with a "letter" in a specific format to a password protected USB stick... it's up to one's ingenuity. If Bitcoin gets to 100k-500k a piece I will give it a bigger thought.  Wink
8867  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bulls are no longer fresh and will run out of gas on: June 05, 2020, 09:45:28 AM
Week-end comes and strange things happen sometimes during week-ends. Will this mean a drop? Maybe (not convinced, but anything can really happen). But sub-6k, I highly doubt it.
However, you are calling for sub-6k drops too often and this will make you lose credibility. And it won't even matter if such a drop will happen or not. Read about the user kwukduck and his predictions  Wink
8868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Patoshi Researcher: 'Satoshi won't use his coins ever’" on: June 05, 2020, 07:57:23 AM
Indubitably ?

Never underestimate human greed.
If Satoshi or somebody close to him will ever have access to those keys, we will eventually spend.

I think that Satoshi is either dead (which may make a certain clown's actions make some sense), either have completely and deliberately destroyed those keys.
8869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum planning to take over??? on: June 05, 2020, 07:48:04 AM
I don't know why people keep dreaming about a take over. I'm not sure they even understand what they mean.
Take over as the first coin? They cannot since time travel doesn't work.
Get higher price for their coin than for Bitcoin? Well, for Ethereum that would mean a stronger and hungrier network, since history has shown that miners' costs are a big component of the price.
Adding PoS into the equation ... made me laugh.  Grin
8870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 seed words + passphrase on: June 05, 2020, 07:41:30 AM
and if the password were strong (truly random) then it can't be memorized over long term. they still have to write it down so that they won't forget it (after like in a year)

Actually everything has to be written down - seed words and password - even if it's something very simple.

I've seen cases when people got a stroke and forgot even to walk and of course even their kids' names (!).
One has to think / plan for long term and what I've said can happen because of a car or motorcycle crash too, so it's not age related.

worrying that the (seed phrase 12 or 24 words) is stolen or lost

You can keep the seed written onto paper buried between many other useful and / or useless papers. Most people will not know what's that and what to use it for.
Or you can write here and there onto the pages of a book your seed words.
I mean that a seed has to be written down and it's not too difficult to hide in plain sight.
8871  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to solve the trade collision? on: June 04, 2020, 10:10:45 AM
A trade collision occurs when multiple takers attempt to take the same make order at the same time.

If there any way to help on solving this problem?

From what I see, it could be done either with lock on the table / records, either by keeping in memory a synchronized time-ordered list of operations "to be made".
8872  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken's targeting LN this year on: June 04, 2020, 09:47:11 AM
If an exchange implements LN there can be interesting extra services developed and if Kraken will be the first, they'll have quite an edge.
I am really curious what'll actually happen.
8873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stable coins for bounty hunters on: June 04, 2020, 09:22:49 AM
There were times when altcoins used to pay bounties in Bitcoin or Ethereum, but nowadays the bounty market is so overcrowded with bounty hunters that they are really in no position to dictate the rules. If you will refuse to work for worthless tokens, someone else will. And these ICO scams don't care about quality, they need quantity, because there's still plenty of greedy noobs who are ready to gamble with ICO's as they hope to find a "good project".

Yep. We have to make bounty hunters understand what they are doing wrong. If we manage to do this we will have better bounties and less scam ICOs too.
Just it's an extremely difficult job, especially because most of those don't read, they just post.
8874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stable coins for bounty hunters on: June 04, 2020, 09:11:59 AM
It will be a whole new story if new projects can start paying bounty hunters in USD or stablecoin

You've missed the whole point of paying in their coin/token.

The new projects that are not listed at exchanges and without their own market place will always pay in their own token (as long as there will be bounty hunters accepting that) because in this case they don't pay anything from their pockets. If the project has success and gets listed, you'll sell for other investors' money. If it doesn't have success, tough luck, you've worked for free. It's a risk the bounty hunter have to think of when he jumps for enlisting under their banner. One has to check first if it has a good enough chance for success and listing.
8875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: June 03, 2020, 03:23:31 PM
Fees after halving were ridiculous! I've been so used to send transactions with a 1 sat fee that my transaction got stuck in mempool for 10 days! Sad not to mention having to pay like $3 fee for a $5 transaction. That's why ETH has gained so much momentum lately.

I've sent more than 1000$ for less than 10 cents fee just because I've waited a cool down period. Of course, this is not always possible.
Also the fees are not related to the value you are transacting, so the 5$ and 1000$ figures are useless.

And also Ethereum network is pretty much crowded too lately and I fear that if the trend continues sooner or later you'll face the same issues on ETH.
8876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recent update about bitcoin on: June 03, 2020, 10:23:17 AM
Well, after everything happened in the last few months (including corona) do you think the bitcoin price would still be able to fulfill our expectations?

I cannot tell what the future holds. I think that Bitcoin will fulfill our long term expectations if we don't give it a deadline.
Whether it's "moon" in a year or not, I cannot tell. I hope so though.
8877  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: June 03, 2020, 09:11:10 AM
If the balance on your card account is overdrawn, you will not be able to use it until you top up the account.  If your balance remains overdrawn for 2 months in a row, both your card and card account will be closed.

Remember, card accounts have an associated maintenance of fee of approximately $1.50, charged once per month.

They do have rules about this situation. The odd part is that they didn't notify about it.
I mean, their goal is to keep their paying customers...
8878  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kraken CEO: Bitcoin Would Be Worth $1,000,000,000,000 If the Masses Knew the Pow on: June 03, 2020, 09:06:46 AM
I'd rather see Bitcoin becoming more practical, and people using it not because they read bad stuff about central banks, but because using Bitcoin is in some ways better even for a layperson.

In order to find it more practical than fiat they have to learn to think more clearly, which basically comes from a higher degree of education.

You said about "every radical movement". They keep the people stupid and feed them with nonsense. I was talking about something ... different: education. Real education. One where everything can be questioned and researched.
8879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kraken CEO: Bitcoin Would Be Worth $1,000,000,000,000 If the Masses Knew the Pow on: June 03, 2020, 08:38:08 AM
Almost all people are fine with banks, this is the reality. Maybe they answer in polls that they don't trust bankers, but their actions show that they do. Lots of countries have already shifted towards mostly digital payments (online banks and such), and even in those countries where cash is still king most people do have bank accounts and use them from time to time.

Combine this fact with the fact that most people are aware of Bitcoin, and you'll see how wrong the CEO's statement is. People know about Bitcoin. They have a rough idea that it's opposed to banks. Yet they don't care.

Since their first steps humans get used to have a helping hand around, somebody to trust and somebody who will bail them out if they make a mistake.
Depending on the environment they grow up, many will remain tied to such expectations and very few won't.
The way they handle their money / assets is in pace with their mentality. So I am not surprised many prefer others handle their money as long as it's - in a way or another - insured.

Now, add the fact public figures - Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, heads of central banks - tell loud that Bitcoin is risky and people should stay away.

It's not that people don't care. People don't know they should care. Change of habits is needed. Education is needed. We are still way closer to monkeys (or sheep) than we'd like to admit.
8880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recent update about bitcoin on: June 03, 2020, 07:46:58 AM
Hello, I am back to this forum after fighting against corona, finally I can be here again.

Hello and welcome back. Good to hear about people winning against that virus.

So, what are the recent updates about bitcoin

There was the halving.
There were a lot of price fluctuations, you can see here: https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitstamp/btcusd maybe set it to 4h so you can see the prices since the start of this year.
The mempool is quite loaded lately (excepting the last week-end), so the tx fees are higher and many started to complain.

So, what are the recent updates about bitcoin and what do you expect to happen in one year from now?

Since there was the halving and also the governments are printing money (hence making it less valuable) we expect (as usual) moon  Cheesy
However, some still expect huge drop and we have to stay realistic: the market is still volatile and rather unpredictable.
