8861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Chip shortage] Are we going to see an elongated demand in mining gear? on: August 29, 2021, 12:30:27 AM
I recently watched news where Toyota plans to cut their car production due to the chip crisis  Chip shortage: Toyota to cut global production by 40% - BBC

The effect is starting to take a bite on automobile companies too, and  the Intel chief warned of two-year chip shortage.

Quote
Mr Gelsinger predicts the shortage will get worse in the "second half of this year" and it will be "a year or two" before supplies return to normal.

The disruption, caused by huge demand for devices, the pandemic, and poor relations between the US and China, has created "a very large gulf", he says.

Now, since the manufacturers of mining gears also use the same semiconductors, what do you think about the future of mining through a possible bear market with graphic card prices that might still remain high due to production shortages?

The chip shortage will not allow a true bear market.

So let us hope for a 2 year chip shortage. It will chase the bears away.
8862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 2Miners have stopped paying out on: August 28, 2021, 09:37:51 PM
Be calm you will get your payout once gas fee is down, right now it's over 120 gwei that's a lot for small time miners, the only way to avoid this is to use exchange pools like binance pool or nicehash pool or ViaBTC

I use viabtc zero issues on payouts. and you can convert coin if you choose

It's like people don't know the E9 is on the horizon.

Eth has a choice to side with

Innosilcon + bitmain or with AMD + Intel  + Nvidia

he is in the drivers seat.

ProgPoW  is a death blow for asics.
8864  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hacked account? "Donator" selling account under his/her own name? on: August 28, 2021, 08:42:23 PM
Some interesting trust feedback he made today as reply to members who gave him negative feedback:

I'm surprised to be "forgotten". At least for now.

The best part there is imho that he's no longer DT. So his retaliatory feedback is also worthless.
I'd hope that sooner or later the list of users trusting him will get smaller though.

But I do not think I could get 50k for my account.

Somebody evil enough could get probably scam - sooner or later - more than 1BTC with such an account. But it's difficult. He would have to have your knowledge (at least partly) and imitate your writing style [imho at least in the case of your account is nearly impossible to have both of these]. And start involving into businesses, maybe escrow too, even if not scamming from start. When, at some point, enough money is on this guy's hand, he can run with them. But yeah, it's more a hypothetical case than something realistically possible to happen.

James Joyce and stream of thought style  of writing was my intention. Very hard to copy it.

typos lower case bad punctuation  etc. but good content. Grin

All make for a difficult  style  to copy.
8865  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hacked account? "Donator" selling account under his/her own name? on: August 28, 2021, 07:58:15 PM
I'm surprised they wanted to try charging at least 1 BTC for it - I wonder who their target audience was.
Probably old-school members of the forum who still have a lot of bitcoin from the early days and might consider a donator account from 2012 with positive trust a highly-prized "collectible".

But 1BTC?  That seems to be an outrageous asking price even if someone had a lot of bitcoin.  I mean, come on....nearly $50k for a bitcointalk account?  I don't care if it's a donor or how much trust it has, that's still a lot of money to shell out for something that has little real-world value--and yes, I get that people are shelling out ridiculous sums of money for NFTs, but I still think a whole bitcoin is way too much for that account even if it still had no negative trust.

Not that I would sell it but I have been offered 5000 usd a few times.
Back in fall of 2017
My account is one of the more valuable ones .

It is pretty obvious the buyers making the offers to me were looking to scam.

As they went to my email and bypassed pms.

In a way if you do a lot of sales and escrows you are aware of a few hunderd peoples real names and addresses. Along with the high degree of trust you could do a lot of damage with a premium account.

But I do not think I could get 50k for my account.

As I said I am not selling it or considering selling it.

97.30 kwatts at midnight
99.35 kwatts at 1 am
109.63 kwatts at 6 am

so it burned 12.33 kwatts  in six hours

Or 2.055 an hour. at my summer power rate of 16 cents that is about 7.89

it earned 6.69 cents an mh or 705 x that which is 47.16

47.16 - 7.89 = 39.27 a day about 14,335 in a year if it all stays flat

this rig cost me about 13,900 to build.

Now a lot of the cards have been mining prior to the case. I think it has earned close to 8k already.

So mid night to mid night is 24 hours

and to noon is 12 more = 36 hours.

it is 2:42 so 3 more = 39 hours.

so at 3:00pm we should be at 179 kwatts for 39 hours.

I will check on the kwatt meter in 15 min to get a 39 hour reading.

I will film the temporal garage setup.  But frankly I may end up with the 2 units mining all winter in the garage.

These cases will allow for a neat space not taking a lot of room. In your garage.

They are making close to 40 a day after power cost. my power is 16 cents in the summer.
we are at 177.69-97.30 = 80.39 kwatts or 80.39/39= 2,061 watts

Video link

https://youtu.be/w2lV2t2jad4.

this will take time to publish

second video lets you hear that it is not a terribly loud rig.

I had 5,000,000
I sold some
I have 3,200,000 left.
So they are all free so to speak

8871  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin @ $50k on: August 27, 2021, 12:03:25 PM
Bitcoin at this point is at a safe mode in the sense that the price is close to the 50k area even when it has already achieved the 50k price last week before falling back to below that price this week but in all Bitcoin has been stable in price throughout this week.
In my opinion though, there is no safe mode as per my experience, during the bull run of 2017, I said that the price won't go below $10k, but it did.

Although it looks very stable, the FUD gang might be just silently creating another news that might impact the market. I wanted to see the price tops $50k again and have a good momentum to much on the upside.

Too dark bro.

Not much action hoping for a price put over the weekend.

my 45k prediction thread could fall if we make it to the 29th.
8875  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not be able to stay above 45k for ten days in a row ever again. on: August 27, 2021, 11:41:52 AM
So where do we stand?

on coinbase we were at 44+ on August 19 so we are 7.7 days in on this 45+ level.
At 7 pm EST August 29 we could be 10 days over 45k
Which would kill off this thread.

Why hasn't someone thought of setting up a giant bitcoin mining farm here?
Seems like a no brainer or am I missing something?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UmsfXWzvEA

Someone has, sir.  I consider you someone.
You know this energy thing is one of the many reasons I have realized we are still SO early.

Hueristic can tell you... Poker players call it level thinking.  I am sure it's not just poker players who call it that... Thing is so few people have figured out that Bitcoin will revolutionize the power industry more than pretty much anything else aside from the "money industry".  It will eventually change SO MANY OTHER  things...  But power is basically second order.  Almost still first... But it's one level away from the base.

Bitcoin takes power!  HUUR DUUR Bircorn bad. Use power for nothing.

Bitcoin will drive an energy revolution unlike anything we have seen so far.  This is not hyperbole.  And I am sure some of you poker players have already seen it.

Bitcoin creates a power consumer base layer.  Most of the time we think of power as something we do not have enough of.  Something we all have to share like a pie.  But there is more atomic energy in a single penny than we can really imagine. But I will help.  The energy in one US penny (3.1 grams of copper plated zinc) is FOUR TIMES the amount of energy released by the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima.  We have more potential wind, solar, nuclear, and yes, hydrocarbon energy available to us than we could use in millions of years.

The problem is it takes WORK to build the systems that produce the energy.  And work is the distilled value of human lives.

If you were to build a large hydroelectric energy source, or a nuclear reactor in MANY parts of the world where this is a REAL NEED for energy, there would not be a demand large enough to justify the expense.  So there are places all over the world that NEED energy, but do not have it.

Bitcoin fixes this.  Really.

Because NOW we can build a dam that serves a area somewhere in the world that is starved for power.  But it's OK that there re not enough power customers to make the dam profitable!  Just rack up a pile of bitcoin miners!!!!!  THEY can pay for the dam.

And then you have abundant energy for the surrounding villages, which will grow to out compete the old bitcoin machines for the power that resource produces.

Bitcoin will revolutionize the energy markets.  There is no way it doesn't.

yeah we have a few hundred kwatt in solar arrays. We are adding 500 more due to the good mining this yeah.

most people don’t  understand that solar is really cheap and does work.

oil coal and gas companies own a shit ton of solar tech and simply restrict it.

yet another subsidy for them and against solar.

Every rooftop can generate power. it is a way to create real esate.

800 to 1000 watt panels could be built right now rather than 350-400 watt panels.

My home could do 30 panels or 12k system which is about 2kwatt an hour 24/7/365 if set to the grid.

if the better panels were allowed i could do 2x that. or 4x watt an hour about 100kwatt a day.
my summer rate is 16 cents so 8 could do 16 dollars a day if the better panels were not restricted.

it is coming maybe 5-10,years.

toss some solid hash at them for a while.
I wouldn't mind throwing a yottahash at mmpool or two. However, how can we be sure that the mmpool admin still notices when we find a block?
Someone point me to some kind of proof-of-life of user "mmpool", please?

I sent an email to mmpool and asked for a post at this forum to confirm we still have active support.

cheers,

ctya

yeah good idea. As i have been pointing hash here for a long time.

http://mmpool.org/statistics

I am in fourth place on the stat page.

Seems that the pool is down.

back up I am earning coin again I have about 25th pointed here

Chips may be short and thus we are not going over the top.
The last jump may have been old gear going back on line.
We are at 5.9%. still super early.

My kid needs a new graphics card for his computer.  Not for mining, gaming.  I can't find GPUs anywhere for a reasonable price, so I figured I'd look here and see what people had.  Looking to keep it under $500

how about a 3060 from evga?

It is used mined but not hard.

under warranty for two years and six months.

I have all the paperwork.

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=12G-P5-3657-KR

it is nerfed to 37 mh if you mine it with lol. miner

below is cheapest buy it now on ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/234151446795?

he wants 670 for his with pick up .

I could do 500 for you and ship it free.

to anyone else I have a second one ☝️ I could do for a bit more as fyoung is a multiple buyer from me and is getting a discount.

I will check 3060 vs 1080 in gaming.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/4105vs3603

looks like the 3060 is not quite as good but close to 1080.

warranty is good. my paperwork dates to feb 2021. so warranty is good until feb 2024.

it was a newegg shuffle purchase.
