8881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: June 03, 2020, 07:31:56 AM
I don't know where your problem with confirmation come from but I always try to avoid using Bitcoin when I exchange my GOLD on Gold marketplace. Indeed, I choose Ethereum to exchange GOLD to ETH, then if I still want to own Bitcoin rather than Ethereum, I will send those Ethereum to get bitcoin back. It takes one more step to do compares to simply exchange GOLD to bitcoin.

The advantage is saving fees and waiting time to get enough confirmations.

My problem basically lies in the lack of experience with Ethereum under stress conditions. As Bitcoin network is getting crowded (now and then, I know), I expect Ethereum network follow the same trend, exactly because some people will switch to Ethereum to solve their problems.

The thing that made me worry was the fact I am quite low on gas because of last month incident and now the fees are a bit higher than my actual gas (of course, I will handle this in the near future).

However, different platforms handle different the problem:
* some make the trade when the money arrives, just the rate may be different because of the market conditions
* some may reject the trade / send the money back
* some have it unhandled

Since I didn't find anything written, I thought I ask, so it'll be in the benefit of everybody.

And the conclusion is, as @libert19 wrote, to make sure an e-mail address is written, so extra headaches are avoided  Wink
8882  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-05-13] An old privacy trick could solve Bitcoin’s privacy problem on: June 03, 2020, 07:22:53 AM
My point was rather that if given a choice between staying true to bitcoin but creating "enemies", or compromising on not allowing third parties to take control of our money in exchange for less opposition from governments, than I'm sticking with the first.

I don't see it a way to "betray" Bitcoin, nor weakening it.

I know I am an outlier when it comes to the bell curve of "concerned about your privacy". I know most users are happy to complete KYC for the convenience of using a centralized exchange, whereas I am not. I know most users accept that these exchange make rules as to where their deposits can come from and where they can withdraw to, whereas I see such behavior as antithetical to bitcoin itself. My concern that is if we go too far down route number two and compromise what bitcoin is, it will be impossible to turn back and undo the changes. Bitcoin may end up popular, but it also ends up no better than fiat.

I think I am neither too strict, neither too lax in the privacy matters. And I see now, here is where the difference of opinion comes from.

I'd much prefer bitcoin's popularity to come from more people realizing the benefits it brings, rather than compromising on those benefits for an "easy ride", so to speak.

Touché. Here you are right. (iou +1 sM) (edit: handled)

The thing is Bitcoin has become too big and way too many big papas are getting onboard. People, companies and institutions which are now in crypto like convenience, they see bitcoin just as an alternative asset class to have in their over complex portfolios.

Maybe indeed Bitcoin is way bigger than I was thinking (still much smaller than deserved) and I was worrying for nothing.
8883  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-05-13] An old privacy trick could solve Bitcoin’s privacy problem on: June 02, 2020, 04:13:00 PM
I'm not sure if the anonymity is wanted anymore. There are exchanges that were delisting anonymous coins because of government rules, so more anonymity could make more enemies also to Bitcoin, which is not a great step forward now.
Speak for yourself. After the government has successfully removed your privacy, the next thing is for them to exert control. This has already begun with some exchanges refusing to allow deposits/withdrawals to gambling sites, among others, for example. If I wanted a government to be able to monitor every transaction I make and decided whether or not I'm allowed to make them, then I could just use fiat.

Somehow people seem to understand that I am against anonymity in Bitcoin. I'm not.
But I have a feeling that the anonymity features seem to be somewhat delayed and put away.
I guess that the "idea" to not make more enemies for Bitcoin was unfortunate. Somehow people seem to forget that there are still mixers around.

Keeping your data private is difficult enough as it is. Reclaiming your privacy once you've given it up is nigh on impossible. The same is true of bitcoin. If we give up on all methods of maintaining or enhancing your privacy, if we allow governments to stick their noses where they don't belong, then that will become the norm, and reversing it at a later date will be impossible. No government is going to willingly give up knowledge or control.

True. And that's why mixers are great to have.

What's to be expected if one tries to buy/sell on your marketplace and sends coins/tokens, but they don't get the required confirmations (or don't get any confirmations) in the required time frame?
8886  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: June 02, 2020, 02:33:55 PM
They cant deduct the money from my other cards or wallets indirectly.

That's not really unexpected. They keep all those "worlds" separated.

But I had no warnings or anything. I find it a little strange.

Quite shame indeed, since it's in their best interest. Maybe you propose them add such notifications (if they don't think that far). Or did you stop all their notifications?! (asking just in case).

Gonna order a new USD card.

Please let us know how it went. Also read up: you need this only if you pay a lot in USD, else EUR/GBP cards should be cheaper.
8887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which fastest LN, LTC, Dash? on: June 02, 2020, 02:27:19 PM
I can admire how inventive are the Dash promoters.
Of course, there are probably some bits here and there favoring their calculation, which I will not bother reading, however, since most stores don't accept neither Dash nor LN transaction, it doesn't matter at all, isn't it?

PS. Not that I am a fan of Ripple and Co, but why didn't you add proper competition there (XRP, maybe WAVES, maybe others too) which are also fast and very fast (and also not accepted anywhere)?

8889  Other / Meta / Re: UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 08:07:34 PM
The idea is interesting, some other posts/ideas are also interesting and I think that the best way to do it would be to simply allow the original poster of a thread add an extra post as post #2.
This would allow him quote other posts there, reorganize and so on (and also use this feature as many times he wants). And will make people not need those "reserved" posts right after the first one "just in case".

Of course, the original poster may have to do reorganize/tidy up work now and then, but keeping things nice do require some work after all.

Maybe at the point Bitcoin adoption is world wide and Bitcoin is "too big to fall" (I wanted so much to add this), then these ideas will get out of the shelves and get a real (real-real) thought and also implemented into the real thing.
8891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is worthless, but in-game currency or tokens are priceless ...yea right! on: June 01, 2020, 02:48:29 PM
$4800 spend on buying Diamonds for that game.

Yup, many simply cannot comprehend how various can be the areas addiction can strike.

While many tell urban stories like "if Mr X would have been stopped smoking, now he would have a house", while many still think Bitcoin is some sort of "Monopoly money", it's nice to actually see somebody converted from addiction to actual investment (although "conversion" is incorrect term, since he's still feeding his addiction).
8892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 31, 2020, 06:18:30 PM
But some day that will be a fond memory for good. I'm interested to see how many people readjust their expectations and are happy to wait for less cost rather than it having to be NOW. Either way the broke will need a solution that isn't widespread at the moment. Could be LNs, could be something else.

There is (also) a problem: various services need "fast" transactions, the most wide spread may be the withdrawal from exchanges (customer trust, lack of options in the software like "I'm not in a hurry, but let me have the extra $), but also certain payments need confirmations.. faster than one week.

Yes, certain transactions can be done with low and very low priority. But in order to have something "commercially available" I'm afraid that many of those complaining are right and something has to be done and I'm not as enthusiastic about LN like I was one year ago (mostly because I had unrealistic expectations it'll get live/out-of-beta/used with the speed SegWit got adopted).

So it's not only about "people readjust their expectations" imho, it's more about how the service providers will adjust to the new reality.
8893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 31, 2020, 12:57:35 PM
I concur to this. Bitcoin is not for the rich only. It is even one thing they must look into if it want to be accepted worldwide. The fees are too high, even for small amount.

You are late. Right now 1 sat/vbyte is good again.
And you should read more. The fee is completely unrelated to the quantity or value of the coins sent.
8894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees high on: May 31, 2020, 11:11:45 AM
If you look at the fees of the past 24 hours, they are quite low again.

Exactly. https://mempool.space/ gives an even better overview. Most of the blocks from the last 12 hours were not filled completely.
Even myself I made a low prio transaction yesterday with 1 sat/vbyte and went through in less than 20 minutes.
8895  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 30, 2020, 11:09:19 PM
Nice pump, hope the guy who tried to drop the price hours ago bites his ass.

Actually it's not the first pump that maybe started with a fake dump (or got triggered by a real dump?)
8896  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-05-30] China: Parliament passes law allowing inheritance of Bitcoin on: May 30, 2020, 06:24:42 PM
I do not see any hidden intention in this

Well, this works only if one passes KYC, so the government knows about his funds. And this leads sooner or later to some taxes (especially when they will sell crypto).
Nothing unusual, in theory at least, since people are supposed to pay taxes on the income from their investments (in some countries may be even for their possessions, but I don't know how is it in China).
8897  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.trezor.app on: May 30, 2020, 04:43:18 PM
Why are hardware wallets apps ratings so bad on Google Play? I have read some of the comments and they seem logical because of unresolved problems, but why don't you do these famous wallets solve them?
https://imgur.com/a/RMZXDm5
I want to buy some hardware wallets, but these ratings make me think again.
Does anyone know what the reasons are for this?

1. How to solve? Add fake ratings? Is that the best solution?
2. The Google play ratings worth nothing. One late example is the apps used by teachers for online courses getting bad reviews from the kids for the sole purpose to avoid making the classes. Gmail addresses are for free, remember?
3. Although Ledger and Trezor wallets are good, at least the Ledger application... has some room for improvement (I don't know about Trezor). But that's not a problem since there are enough good established wallets that work fine with both Trezor and Ledger hardware.

I didn't read those reviews since I only use Ledger Live for installing apps and updates. The reviews about the apps may be legit, but I don't think that 1* reflects reality, hence my point 1.
Again, the actual hardware wallet is good.
8898  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance API - How to check wallet status? on: May 30, 2020, 10:53:19 AM
Would this be enough? By making a new deposit address it will give out a success true or false status and supply you with a address so you know you can deposit.
https://github.com/binance-exchange/binance-official-api-docs/blob/master/wapi-api.md#deposit-address-user_data

I don't know. My guess was Asset Detail, on the same page, since it has

"depositTip": "Delisted, Deposit Suspended" //reason

You can see a couple of posts earlier.

But it's just a guess. Some input from these guys is needed if we want to get somewhere.
