8881  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best and quickest way to exchange bitcoins for fiat on: February 14, 2016, 03:40:01 PM
How many coins have you got?
8882  Other / MultiBit / Re: I have a question about the blockchain size... on: February 14, 2016, 09:45:50 AM
So which average does that graph show. If it is an arithmetic mean, and many blocks are under 0.5 Mb, then surely we would need to be using blocks greater than 1Mb for that graph to be accurate?

You could always put a link in your sig.
8884  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin scam charges made against companies in US on: February 14, 2016, 09:29:27 AM
What a shame that so many people seem to turn to fraud to exploit any new opportunity. We need a way to invest in legitimate small mining groups to help cut down on the risks of centralised mining.
8885  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Spending my Bitcoin on GOLD / SILVER?... Do I have to pay tax? on: February 14, 2016, 09:19:22 AM
This is a difficult decision atm, and one which I face as well. I think you should stay away from any fiat currencies until it is clear what will happen after the banking implosion. Governments are trying to kick the problem forward ( CoCos are the latest ponzi scam), but they can't do this forever. So should you stay in Bitcoin, or buy gold. It's all a gamble of course, but I believe that the Bitcoin price will increase as soon as bail-ins start to appear. Sonwhat about Gold? Gold "exists" in two forms - physical gold, and paper gold. China, Russia, India, and several other countries are buying physical gold in large quantities. Canada seems to be the only country that is bucking the trend. There isover 300 times as much paper gold as physical gold, and the price could rocket as soon as panic short covering sets in. I'm not buying gold, despite its obvious attraction, because of the high(ish) costs of retail purchases, and the risk of fraud ( a lot of gold is fake atm ). I buy broken gold watches etc. at charity shops if I see them, but this isn't very often.

How about spreading your exposure by keeping half in Bitcoin, and buying gold with the other half if you are sure you can buy real gold.

The tax situation must depend on the situation in your country, and the treatment of asset disposal and the chances of getting rollover relief.
8886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much would you pay per month to run a full node? on: February 14, 2016, 08:04:39 AM
I think you should be rewarded for running a full node. ie. payments should be negative, but there is no option for this.
8887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is PoS what Bitcoin needs? Is Smart Contract ability what it needs? on: February 14, 2016, 06:53:50 AM
Ok, if not PoS, what then? You cannot tell me Bitcoin s fine as it is and it will be fine 5 years from now when most of new coins bring really useful improvements. Innovations is the key, always been and always will be.

PoS is suggested as an alternative to mining. The other alternative is the increased use of sidechains to support transactions in local communities or industries. A sidechain for gambling and one for faucets would be useful additions to the Bitcoin environment, as they would remove a lot of micro-transactions from the main blockchain.
8888  Other / Off-topic / Re: Decentralized escrow on: February 13, 2016, 03:59:27 PM
As soon as I saw chargeback, I thought there is a potential for fraud.

A guy on this board posted a method of using any two signatures out of 3 as a partial system of escrow. I thought that was a good idea.

8890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help syncing 11.2 on Windows 64bit on: February 13, 2016, 01:58:17 PM
If the blocks are coming from a reliable source, I would try using a different storage device to see if you had a bad spot on the drive. Can you use an sd card or usb stick.

Just had another thought. If you have the space, try renaming the blockchain directory, and then reload. That will take you to a different part of the disk.
8891  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Consolidating payments on: February 13, 2016, 12:02:19 PM
I noticed one guy had started a thread about a payment that took a very long time to confirm. The reason for this was that he had a lot of micropayments to cover the funds. If one has a lot of unspent micro-payments, is it worth transferring them to an alternative wallet to speed up any future payments. What is the chance of this going through with a zero fee. Obviously time to confirmation is not of importance.
8892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Problems - Computerphile on: February 13, 2016, 03:23:02 AM
Bitcoin don't needs to become mainstream money.
It is just enough to be widely used and to grow from year to year.
From my perspective this is best payment system on internet!
Do you need more? Internet is very large place with tendencies to grows even more.

Isn't that the truth. Bitcoin will never become the Phoenix currency. I expect that will come from the IMF or the AIIB. However imho, it can become the gold reserve for altcoins on sidechains when its value increases to much higher levels.
8893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The de-throning of Bitcoin on youtube on: February 13, 2016, 03:16:59 AM
I've just watched this video from the daily decrypt -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6Sf7kcbDWk#t=2.970113

Most of it seems to be FUD based on a lack of understanding of the philosophy behind Bitcoin. I thought the point about rewarding "master nodes" was interesting though. I'm not sure what would constitute a master node - presumably one that is running 24/7 with inbound and outbound ports open and an unpruned blockchain.
8894  Other / Politics & Society / A little girl asked her daddy .... on: February 12, 2016, 04:37:29 PM
Do all fairy stories start with "Once upon a time"
Daddy replied " No, some start with 'When I'm elected' "

Well this seems to be the case in the UK anyway. Smiley
8895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sony Corporation Opens To Bitcoin on: February 12, 2016, 03:59:10 PM
The entertainment blockchain sounds frightening. We might have to increase blocksize if they are going to add 2 hour films to the blockchain. Smiley
8896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is anybody using SegNet? on: February 12, 2016, 03:53:34 PM
Looks as if I jumped the gun starting this thread. I suspect it's for developers only.

English with a capital "E" is the language of the English, most of the posts here seem to be in American. Why do you feel that someone whose mother tongue is English is likely to be a scammer?
8898  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pruning questions on: February 12, 2016, 02:21:39 PM
Thanks for that explanation. Does this mean that I have to download the entire blockchain again if I want to use pruning, or can I use a blockchain stored on (say) a USB stick?
8899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is anybody using SegNet? on: February 12, 2016, 02:16:02 PM
On the December 21 of 2015 SegNet was deployed, to test the Wuille's Segregated Witness proposal.

I'd be interested in trying this to try to understand the implications of SegWit.
8900  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Im new and need some guidance please im from the UK on: February 12, 2016, 01:35:50 PM
If you are thinking of mining Bitcoin, you may find the electricity costs too high over here.
