8961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto a.k.a. Glenn M. Lilly (mathematician for the NSA) on: May 18, 2020, 01:43:17 PM
Short answer. The government created bitcoin. Specifically, the National Security Agency.

When? 2001. By a mathematician known as Glenn M. Lilly, employed by and under the direction of the NSA.
Why? As a control mechanism to tax, as well as trace each individual with ease.

As soon as you get Glenn M. Lilly sign a message with one of the known addresses to belong to Satoshi I believe you. And not a second earlier.
As simple as that.

Have a nice day.

You should also search a little and read about (Bitcoin) wallet security, since you will have sooner or later a wallet with some money in it.
If you've mastered that and have a wallet, you can add an address of yours to this thread as a backup safety measure.

A list of books you can read you can find in this thread, but you'll have to check all those posts and links since some goodies are almost at the end.
8963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best stablecoin right now? on: May 18, 2020, 12:13:51 PM
the best Stablecoin to keep funds fearless in the long run

For long run I'll start with advising against USDT, since it doesn't have a proper audit and there's a huge chance it's not properly backed.

My advice is to check the background of each and every stablecoin until you find a few good options.
If you want to stay on USD related stable coins, Gemini's GUSD could be an option (although there are not that many exchanges accepting it).
But you can also look at GOLD token (Digital Gold), which is stable against gold. If you want to research, you can start with https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5161544.

However, whatever advises you get (including mine!) DYOR since it's your money.
8964  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC Electrum script error Windows 7 on: May 18, 2020, 11:52:09 AM
There is literally not a single reason to still use this outdated and insecure OS.

If the user keeps it always (but always!!) offline, this is not a big concern. And on an old computer with small RAM and no SSD, Windows 10 is not fast. Win7 could be faster (but then why not XP?  Grin).
The real problem is that newer software asks for newer dependencies so OP has to leave Win7 if he wants to use the latest Electrum. And for slower PCs Linux could be the good option. Depends what else OP is using that PC for...
8965  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated May 16] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: May 18, 2020, 10:10:53 AM
If you set your default Trust Depth to more than 2, it may not load anymore.

I've had it 3. I've changed it to 2 now.

And I think that creating a huge amount of extra data would not be the good direction. This would be more like "on the fly" data / response created from what you already have.
That's what the forum does, but there's just too much data to do it on the fly.

Hmm, I guess you're right.
However, I've changed to 2 and the Trust Depth could be of help next time.

Thank you.
8966  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC Electrum script error Windows 7 on: May 18, 2020, 09:53:27 AM
It's an offline computer just for signing transactions.  Huh

If it's an offline computer you can install on it windows 10 and it will work without key virtually forever. (Yes, the official Win10)

I use Tails OS stick instead of an "offline computer". They also have DVD/ISO if you want it on something faster than an usb stick. And it already have Electrum on it! (But on default settings the wallet is never saved; this can be a feature in my case or a problem for others; the default setting can be change though).

Or, almost any Linux should do if you use the AppImage for Electrum.
8967  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated May 16] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: May 18, 2020, 09:43:02 AM
I've also made Personal Full Trust Depth viewer for all users a year ago, and last updated it half a year ago. I'm currently running an update, if my script still works it will probably take 2 days to generate a few GB of data.

I don't know, that btalk feature doesn't work for me.
And your list, although comprehensive, doesn't help me much (I just extracted now a name from there for an example). The last version from http://loyce.club/trust/ is already the real thing.
And I think that creating a huge amount of extra data would not be the good direction. This would be more like "on the fly" data / response created from what you already have.

I will give you an example from my list.

Problem: why do I trust moe7865? (not a real problem, just an example)
What I do: going to http://loyce.club/trust/2020-05-16_Sat_05.03h/, searching for the user, see who is trusting him, so:
. . . . . . . . . moe7865
. . . . . . . . . wlefever
worthyou - donalddraper - icon73
mickelody - . . . . . . .  . . - buckrogers

and in buckrogers' list I see yogg, which I know he's in my trust list.

So NeuroticFish - yogg - buckrogers - icon73 - wlefever - moe7865 is one chain.
8968  Other / Meta / Re: [Updated May 16] LoyceV's Trust list viewer - Create your own Trust list! on: May 18, 2020, 08:29:22 AM
I don't know if this was discussed until now, I've found myself already a couple of times surfing your lists to find out why I do (indirectly) trust this or that user (usually long gone users!).

It's clearly not a feature request, since last time I asked for WO "last week" viewer and I am sad (ashamed) to hear I am the only one using it now and then; so it's up to you if you find it worthy and add it or not.

So, back to the idea: it's not easy to go on the trust "tree" and pinpoint the possible weak links = people who most probably you would not actually trust, but they are trusted (also indirectly) by people added to your trust list. However, if the software knows who are you and who is the culprit, it should not be hard to find the "lines" of interest (not sure though how that could be displayed).

I would not pay attention to the predictions of a newspaper wannabe who cannot even spell cost correctly.
And FYI, this kind of predictions are thrown out only for publicity / traffic.

8971  Economy / Auctions / Re: Domain name: multibit.io on: May 15, 2020, 01:26:09 PM
The MultiBit name is still in many bitcoiners' memory related to a defunct wallet project. (see multibit.org)
This could cause confusion.

It's only one reason to say that even 0.1 Bitcoin could be a bit high as price  Smiley
Best of luck, you'll need it.
8972  Economy / Speculation / Re: All Time High:: 2020 or 2021 ? on: May 15, 2020, 10:05:42 AM
There has been no other fundamental change to Bitcoin that warrants a new ATH

Halving should (in theory) sooner or later make the miners sell less Bitcoin on higher prices, because they now work more for much less coins.
Also FOMO rush is fueled by people's expectations (social engineering helps there) and a bit of market manipulation here and there.
Technological advancement would be a big plus, but a new bubble can easily start without that too.

The problem is that the more the people expect/want/push towards a big price increase, the more the chance it'll be just another bubble, which, when it'll pop, will leave even more people with a grudge against Bitcoin.

PS. My vote goes now for 2021 too.
8973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Elephant in the Room on: May 15, 2020, 09:42:12 AM
We are seeing many blockchains become centralized, even some of the big ones like BCH, being vulnerable to 51% attacks or accept that 12.5% of the miners' profits are taken away by some unaccountable Chinese fund?

Some blockchains were not made from start to be (properly) decentralized (or not at all). Not all devs are working for a greater good (BCH and BSV are wonderful examples).
One has to read as much as possible and whenever something stinks just leave that boat.

But yes, it's a real problem and it's not new. In some cases the success of a blockchain (basically the market cap) is not reflected by the strength of the underlying blockchain (difficulty). And if this happens, especially if it lasts too long, somebody will profit by making 51% attack. Creating hype is cheap. Meeting the requirements for the success to last may be much more difficult.

About miners' profits I am not sure I understood. But wherever a businessman can find super cheap electricity, maybe also cheap miner devices, he's start a mining business there. China is such an example and I think that it's not the business men to blame, it's the idiocy (and greed) of western governments which add a ton of fees into electricity price making it unreasonably high.
But this can be beaten with enough funds and future proof thinking. One can build up on renewable energy. This will ensure on long term that one will stay in business, even after many halvings, because after ROI the energy will be almost for free (some maintenance costs remain).
8974  Other / Meta / Re: Hidden pages/ features on the forum on: May 15, 2020, 09:17:45 AM
I think that this list would be worthy to get pinned and maybe also moved to More (although many miss that gem).
And speaking about More, you could "import" other links from there, like Support for hacked/lost accounts

Edit: I'll put two more that could be worthy

Your post is not clear enough on the fact that for ranking up, along with activity also merit is necessary.

8978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee says he received call from Satoshi Nakamoto asking not to be reveal on: May 13, 2020, 07:33:54 AM
You guys know the joke about the rabbit and jogging?
Every time I see threads about John McAfee .. I remember that joke.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/10i61s/a_little_rabbit_is_running_happily_through_the

Nice joke, but I don't think McAfee is too insane or makes his posts because he's under drugs, he is making money and stays relevant to his fanbase for making exactly this kind of statements, so it's nothing surprising that he makes yet another crazy tweet. It would be best if we all took effort to give him less attention, by not creating topics about his actions, and limit it all to just debunking him if some newbies ask about him.

It's not relevant if he posts under drugs or not. The relevant part is that whenever and whatever he posts about crypto, the news and crypto forums ... all start "going out for jogging".
Too much fuss for somebody who changes his statements because ... whatever.
8979  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: #DeGoogle - Luati-va inapoi controlul asupra intimitatii on: May 13, 2020, 07:31:06 AM

Eeee, aia-i o greseala.

Pe partea asta, avand in vedere ca se poate parola separat, am relativa incredere inclusiv in pastrarea parolelor la Google.

Grin Dar am facut schimbari destul de drastice, eu am mers mai mult spre extrema.. feels good tho

Aualeeeu... Na, jos palaria, nu as putea face asta, as pierde mult prea mult timp.

Probabil n-as avea nici macar in cei pentru care trebuie sa platesc.

Foarte corect punctat.

Ce-i in mana nu-i minciuna!

Da-i naibii.

:D on: May 13, 2020, 06:57:55 AM
