901  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Downclocking 6970 Memory! on: June 09, 2011, 01:16:41 AM
Could someone please help me out? I just bought this card today, I also have a 5850; they run way too hot.
Right now I'm running at 950Mhz GPU Clock, 1375Mhz Memory Clock. and +5& Power Control Settings. 406Mhash/s @ 71 Celcius with fan @ 88% (Louder than a Jet plane)

So please what utility do I use to downclock the RAM to 331Mhz. As stated here from the Mining Hardware Wiki Chart:

Sorry if i missed something, but can you please just give me an overview of why i should use this instead of GUIMiner please?

Thanks!

Well at the moment, it allows you to configure and save multiple accounts, it has failover/fallover support (whatever you wanna call it), v2.2 with have a statistics page showing you your overall mh/s, your expected btc income and the amount of btc you have in pools (if you enable it). Eventually it's going to be an all in one miner.
903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unlocking Shaders on a 6950... on: June 09, 2011, 01:10:44 AM
I got two 6950s and I was wondering if anyone has unlocked shaders and if it is possible to brick the cards? I'd rather not brick the cards since I just got them.

I've been browsing this guide. http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159

And downloaded the TechPowerGPU program but the shaders section is grey'd out.

Any idea why that is?

Thanks,
Dd.

AFAIK, if you have a nonreference card, you can't unlock it.
904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Very basic questions on: June 09, 2011, 01:09:39 AM
Hi all,

I heard about bitcoin last August, installed the basic client from bitcoin.org and ran it on two Windows machines.  I racked up a small balance but the last batch generated was in November.  I wasn't paying any attention to the app but just recently found that my version was obsolete.

So my first question is, did I stop generating bitcoins just because the population of users exploded or was it because my version was out of date?  (I'm assuming the former.)

The new version of the client (0.3.22-beta) doesn't seem to allow me to turn generation on and off and doesn't seem to give me the option to set the maximum number of cores to consume.  What's up with that?  First, am I actually generating at all?  Then, where did those functions go?

Also, I see people referring to their hashing speed, and I recall that I knew where to find that last year -- like it was obvious on the GUI, but now I don't see it at all.  How do I determine that?

Finally, the first version of the client was a CPU pig -- as one would expect given the work to be done.  But this client doesn't seem to be doing anything with the CPU at all.  Have I used the wrong client?  Have I misconfigured something?  Am I thinking about this all wrong?

I'm sure all these answers are super-easy and I think you for your time in addressing my issues.  I searched around the wiki and through forum posts, but didn't find this stuff.

You shouldn't be using the generate bitcoins option in the client, it's very outdated. You probably stopped generating blocks because the difficulty skyrocketed. Grab a miner like poclbm, phoenix, or diablo and use that.

No you havn't misconfigured anything, the client was using your cpu to generate bitcoins, and cpu's suck at that compared to gpu's.
905  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoins 0.3.22 windows on: June 08, 2011, 02:41:19 PM
It STILL doesn't encrypt the wallet file. That is the most important thing!

No it is not.

Please explain. Do you believe that wallet encryption is important but is not currently the most important thing to Bitcoin's continued development or do you mean that wallet encryption in general should never happen.

It should easily be possible to split the wallet file into two different sections, one containing the public keys + addresses and the other encrypted section containing private keys. This can be separately encrypted with AES256 (or similar) within the same file and provide the necessary protection against someone stealing your computer and immediately gaining access to all the Bitcoins stored on it. You could then have peace of mind once a backup is restored that your coins are secure.

If I am wrong, explain your reasoning clearly.

This would mean that you would have to enter your password when sending coins, if you had your wallet stolen, that person would (probably) have physical (virtual if you got hacked) access to your computer, and have a chance to keylog your pass. All I think it does is add a false sense of security. You should encrypt it manually in a TC container or something.
906  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Newbie with gear question on: June 08, 2011, 02:38:58 PM
BUMP....

To put it more succinctly....

1) Am I better off buying a 6990 now AND...
2) Is it REALLY hard to add/mix 'lower end' cards to the 6990 rig later? OR...

3) Should I just load up with 5830s? (with no/little opportunity for expansion)

And I'll go ahead and ask...

4) With the base setup I mentioned before (mobo, mem, and PSU for $372.94), what's the best GHash/s I can get (today) for under $1500? ($1500-$372.94=$1127.06 for PSU(s))?  That would leave me enough for one 6990 and MAYBE 2 5830s.  What kind of GHash/s would that get me (and is it even possible)?

Thanks again - and sorry for the noob questions.  This stuff is facinating to me, I'm just not savvy enough (yet) to jump in.  You all have been a big help so far.  I just want to get a green light and pull the trigger ASAP!!! Grin

Just go with the 5830's for now, they're the best mh/$. You can always upgrade later.

4) How'd you get 1127$ for a PSU? 0_O grab a 1000w psu, a couple of 5830's and you'll be good to go Smiley

908  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Release! BitMiner - Advanced Miner GUI - Beta 0.2 on: June 08, 2011, 11:41:14 AM
Check PM Smiley

Everyone reading this, managed to get it fixed, remember, you need to copy the ENTIRE poclbm directory into the same directory as BitMiner.exe

In the in the BitMiner folder, there are 3 items.

BitMiner.exe < file
Simple7.dll < file
poclbm < folder with rest of poclbm program in it.
909  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: BitPorium - BTC to PayPal - Custom mining rigs - Components on: June 08, 2011, 11:01:37 AM

Can't wait to get them Cheesy At this rate i'll be ordering most of my gaming machine from you Tongue
910  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Release! BitMiner - Advanced Miner GUI - Beta 0.2 on: June 08, 2011, 10:55:41 AM
Still fails with the same error.

Win 7 - 64-bit

Ok I actually have no idea then, it looks like something related to python is failing, which is weird because poclbm, not BitMiner is written in python.

If it's alright with you, would I be able to take a look over teamviewer or something? I wanna know what's making this happen aswell Smiley

-- Edit: Is the title of the error message "ERROR!"?
911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cannot start bitcoin on: June 08, 2011, 10:51:21 AM
It wants to create the data directory in %appdata%, create a shortcut and put in
Code:
/path/to/bitcoin.exe -datadir <drivebtcison>:/.bitcoin/

I use http://www.amfeltec.com/products/x1pcie-splitter3.php - I might have a couple spare if anyone would prefer to order from the UK.

How much for 1 + intl shipping?
913  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Release! BitMiner - Advanced Miner GUI - Beta 0.2 on: June 08, 2011, 10:42:23 AM
Yes path is correct.

Ive copied over the poclbm.exe again to the folder and tried launching the miner using the 2 accounts I had already added before. 1 comes up with the same exception error, the other seems to launch (pops up a window with my logon/ID, miner host etc) like its going to run then stops working with an error window message: Loadlibrary (python.dll failed)

Ok I just uploaded version 2.1. Download that and see if it fixes your problem. If it does tell me, if it doesn't reply back with your OS, and architecture.

Yea I did that

You dropped the folder, or the program in the same directory?

So the path to poclbm is C:/Users/David/Desktop/Bitminer2Beta/Beta%202/poclbm/poclbm.exe?

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

<configuration>

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

You have to drop poclbm's folder in the same directory as the program. I'll include a message in 0.3 about it.

Beta 2 released!
919  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New Release! BitMiner - Advanced Miner GUI - Beta on: June 08, 2011, 07:51:07 AM
Ok, I have failover/fallover (w.e you wanna call it) working, you can now select another account that runs another miner when the first accounts miner fails.

Apart from the things on the checklist, anyone else have any suggestions?
Will release v0.2 in about ~12 hours if nothing else comes up. Cheesy

Major bug found in failover code, will release soon.
920  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoins 0.3.22 windows on: June 08, 2011, 07:18:16 AM
You shouldn't be using that anyway. Get a proper miner.
